Kieran Gibbs is ruled out for another month after undergoing groin surgery. Phil Jones receives good news on his jaw injury, Davide Santon’s injury paves the way for Ryan Taylor’s return, while Steven Gerrard may be set for a surprise return against Blackburn this weekend…

Sir Alex Ferguson had some good and bad news for Man United fans in his Friday morning press conference. Ferguson confirmed that Ashley Young is due to miss several weeks with a knee injury sustained against Fulham but was pleased to reveal the injury to Phil Jones is not as bad as first expected. It was feared the former Blackburn man would be sidelined after a stray elbow from Clint Dempsey in the 5-0 win over the Cottagers had left him concussed, amid fears of a break, but Fergie revealed:

We have good news on Phil Jones: he should be okay for Monday. He has some swelling in his jaw but there’s no break, no fracture, which is good news.

Steven Gerrard could return from his lengthy spell on the sidelines against Blackburn on Boxing Day. Gerrard has been out for two months with an ankle injury but has now returned to full training and Kenny Dalglish has refused to rule out the idea that his skipper may feature against Steve Kean’s side. The Liverpool boss admitted:

Everything he’s done, he’s done very well. He’s been training, but whether that means he’s ready or not, we’ll have to wait and see.

Marcos Alonso faces up to six weeks on the sidelines with a foot problem. The left-back sustained the injury in Bolton’s midweek match at Blackburn and although there was no break, he will still need surgery to replace the pin that was put in his foot following a similar problem earlier in the year.

Davide Santon is set to miss out on Newcastle’s trip to Bolton with a knee injury. The Italian was subbed off at half-time in the 3-2 defeat to West Brom with pains in the joint but Alan Pardew has revealed he is expected to be available for the game against Liverpool on the 30th December. Pardew also confirmed Ryan Taylor will come straight back into the first XI as a result of Santon’s absence.

Harry Redknapp has revealed Spurs have selection issues in defence ahead of the trip to Norwich. Both Ledley King and Younes Kaboul have picked up hamstring problems and with Rafael Van der Vaart also subbed off last night after suffering yet another tweak, Tottenham could be forced to make a few changes for the Carrow Road encounter.

Kieran Gibbs is ruled out for another month after undergoing groin surgery. With Andre Santos unlikely to be back until March, Arsene Wenger could continue with Thomas Vermaelen at left-back, with plenty of cover in the central defensive area. The Gunners boss also revealed Johan Djourou has “a little chance“ of featuring in the game against Wolves on 27th December.

Wenger went on to admit he could be forced into a reassessing his left-back options, though any possible deal would likely be a loan:

It can only be a short-term solution for us because we have bought Santos, we have Gibbs, we have Vermaelen who can play there, so we do not need a long-term solution.

Owen Coyle has revealed that Chelsea have opened talks with Bolton over the potential transfer of Gary Cahill in the upcoming January window. With Alex now marginalized after his transfer request was accepted, the Blues are lacking in central defensive options and Cahill, priced at 5.2, could be a potential FPL bargain if the move transpires and he establishes himself as a fixture in Andre Villas-Boas’ starting XI.

I'm about to do Dyer > Valencia for a 4 point hit cos if I wait for price rise I can't afford it.

Problem then is who to bench from the front 8

    Nani/Silva/Valencia/Walters/Larsson
    Ba/Sturridge/RVP

    Anyone?

Fantasy Cup this week mate so you don't want to be behind your opponent before the games kick off.

Plus why have a point hit when you are then left deciding who to bench. Just play your strongest team for this GW then think about Valencia.

    Hey!

    Friedel, Ruddy
    Evans, Jagielka, Richards, NTaylor, Enrique
    Nani, Silva, Mata, Tiote, Ferguson
    Sturridge, Aguero, Adebayor

1FT and 0,5 in the bank. Thinking about Mata and Aguero -> Bale and Rooney, but far from sure. Mata sure has got a good fixture, and will Rooney earn more points than Aguero?
Maybe Richards and Aguero -> Ekotto and Rooney?

Who the heck do I bench!? And I have two free transfers and 1.1 in the bank, so I surely need to use one... but who?

    Vorm(Krul)
    Jones, Enrique, Baines (Evans,Caulker)
    Silva, Drenthe, Walters, Nani (Allen)
    RVP, Sturridge, Ade'

    Sub order: Evans, Allen, Caulker....

Does this seem right? I feel that most people will say to play Evans and bench Baines or Drenthe, but Drenthe has looked fantastic lately and will very likely be involved in any goals, plus Baines has a huge upside... certainly these are risks worth taking vs an Evans clean sheet when I already have jones.

benayoun and rosicky can easily replace ramsey and arteta

arsenal players have a 6 day rest between the villa and wolves game, only 4 days between wolves and qpr and 3 between qpr and fulham

seems like it would make sense for ramsey and arteta to start the wolves game, then rest for the qpr to be back for the tough fulham away fixture.. yes?

    Walters - Silva - Nani - Gower - Drenthe

a defender that doesn't really score/assist playing away as first sub? At least Walker has a reasonably good chance in assisting/scoring...

I would put Gower ahead of Simpson, but it's close.

Walker, Gower, Simpson if it was my bench. Maybe even Gower, Walker, Simpson... I usually prefer mids to away D, but Walker pushes up so often it makes it close..

Even though Ba could score more than Sturridge on Monday, Sturridge will have risen by 0.2m by then and this will affect the value of my team and future players that i can bring in.

Do you think it is worth gambling that Ba will score more than Sturridge on Monday and losing 0.2m or bringing in Sturridge now instead of on Monday?

Sturridge is in incredible form, has some brilliant fixtures coming up and will keep on rising. Do it now before your funds get tighter

Btw what a week you had!

Question....... Transferring out VDV to replace with 9.9m midfielder

Already have Nani, Silva, Larsson and Dyer(inj)..............

Bale the obvious choice in order to keep Spurs player ahead of the DGW....

other choices could be Valencia / Mata

    Please advise......

Spoilt for choice with defence this week:

Evans - Company - Caulker (Shotton, Simpson)

Best combination? Torn between Caulker and Shotton.

It'd have to be Shotton for me. OOP and against Villa who can't defend set pieces .. even Benayoun scored a header against them last game. Might get a cheeky assist and a cleany

Moses to 5.2m? Will Martin Petrov play vs Toon, bought him earlier in the season, crashed and burned?

Just ditched Jones for Evans and bought in Sturridge for Yak on free transfers.

    Question is who to bench??

    Vorm (Al Habsi)
    Evans- Shawx- Enrique (Richards, Simpson)
Bale- Nani (vc)- Silva - Walters, (romeu)
    VP (C)- Sturridge- Ade

Got a bit unlucky last week with Jones and Richards both coming off. I have a feeling Richard might now play the full game again.

Who would you bench out of:

    Shawx vs Richards vs Walters

    thx

Romeu is a lemon and will be ditched asap!

I have both, and I would probably drop Walters before Drenthe. Most people would probably keep walters because of pens/oop, but Drenthe has looked amazing and has a double up soon.
