Glossing over the narrow misses in last week’s Flutter, with a dash of regret at putting so many eggs into one “Ba-sket”, it’s time to darken Paddy Power’s door and scan the new markets, digesting them along with that boxing day bubble and squeak.

Whilst keeping £50 million worth of footballer in the dugout, Daniel Sturridge is fast becoming one of the most promising England prospects, closing in a Euro 2012 spot week by week. Sturridge looked sharp and hungry in-front of goal against Spurs on Thursday night and will be odds on to contribute in Chelsea’s early fixture with Fulham at the Bridge today. Sturridge to score and the Blues to win is 10/11, but the first portion of our tenner will go on Sturridge to net two or more goals at 100/30 for £3.

There are certain players who cause an audible buzz of excitement through the crowd when they gain possession. When Gareth Bale collects a pass in his long stride, with open space in front of him, when Michel Vorm steps up and looks a penalty taker square in the eyes, when Seb Larsson squares up a free-kick from outside the box. Sunderland’s Swede just missed out in the Scout Picks, cruelly omitted in the final cull, but at 12/1 to score from a dead-ball, we’ll take £2 on Larsson forcing humble pie down our necks.

Thomas Vermaelen’s purple patch of goals may have dried up against the likes of Man City and Aston Villa, but we fancy him to cause problems against visiting Wolves on Tuesday. Wolves haven’t kept a clean sheet since the third game of the season, whilst Arsenal have kept three in the last seven. Vermaelen to score and keep a cleanie at 10/1 may be a little hard to chew, but the Belgian has managed it twice and we’ll back him to do it again for £2.

Our final “Who Will Score the Most?” market usually pits three in-from strikers against one another; this time around we’ve added some midfield flavour. Just a few days ago, Rafael Van der Vaart looked unlikely to play any part at Norwich on Tuesday but now, it looks as though he’ll recover to play his part at Carrow Road. At 11/8, Van der Vaart is favourite to net over the much-fancied Nani at 6/4 against Wigan, while the last of our Scout Pick trio, Scott Sinclair, is offered up at 5/2 against floundering QPR. The irony of Van der Vaart coming good after being sold on by thousands of Fantasy managers isn’t lost on us; we’ll back him with our final £3 to cover the inevitable.

Paddy’s Money Back Specials

Paddy has gone “Money Back” mad over the Christmas fixtures. If any of the Premier League games from Boxing Day to New Years Day have five or more goals in them, Paddy will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on the match.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

So tempting to shove all the extra in the back!

I was looking to upgrade walters, but first DVD, then Mata, also Lampard etc keep ruling themselves out of my team. And Walters keeps on scoring. Maybe a cheeky Jevans to Verm at WC time?

Bob's full of it. Larsson missing a pen seals the deal for me, I think he'll be off them. 1-0 either way if I were to guess that game, I can see Stoke scoring 2 or 3, and Walters is still on pens.

well you add both of the figures and then divide using the right number as the dividend and the total as the divisor and you have your odds, for example, 1/1 means an odd of 50 % , 25/4 means 4/29 = 13 %

Plan my transfers to DGW. Is A or B better?

    Vorm – Krul
    Jones(?) – Evans – Enrique – Simpson – Naylor(?)
    Nani – Silva – Mata – Bale – Dyer(?)
    Ade – Ba – RvP

    A: Mata > VDV
    B: Mata > Osman, Evans > Baines

You need either WIFI or a 3G subscription. Do you have a router? You're better off buying a wireless one to replace the one you have if so. 3G subscriptions are expensive.

Assuming you have broadband: Who's your ISP (internet service provider)? It sounds like you're a loyal customer, hence not getting the free wireless routers they dish out nowadays. Instead of buying one, see what they offer new customers for free. Call up and tell them you're a loyal customer and want the same. It usually works.

      Good luck! 🙂

      Some food for thought.

WBA have their attack minded players fit and all in form, City love conceding goals when the game is won.

MON is instilling a defence minded team, Everton aren't exactly full of goals.

I've benched Richards, make of that what you will.

If it wasn't for the chance of breaking Shearer's record I'd probably not (c) RVP. I think Wenger will understand the importance of the record to RVP, start him and ask him to break it in this game. Then rest him for QPR.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking (OK, hoping).

In that story you linked to, Wenger does admit that RVP is desperate to break the record, so it's not like he's oblivious to the importance of it.

Rooney scores in bunches and he is back on fire. Looking at his history he had a few good games and then went off for back-to-back hattricks. that time is now.

I would look to keep Silva out and then after GW20 get aguero for city coverage. His 10.5M could be utilized other places

Does Yakubu -> Morrison and then Moses -> Drenthe (he's finally quitting the nest) make sense for a 4pt hit? Or shall I just leave the second one until next GW?

    Vorm,

    Baines, Evans, Enrique, Walker

    RVP (C) Rooney (VC) Ba

    Subs: Howard, HBA, Shelvey, Barnett

I understand that taking a hit is bad. -4 points doesn't help anyone. Yet, why are people so against it. I am ranked 16k in the world and I have taken 10 hits.....if the team is improved by the move, especially in the long run isnt it ok?

If your investment timeframe is one GW, then a hit is very unlikely to put you in the black - you would have to be lucky, even for an inspired improvement to your squad. If you're looking for a return over several weeks, then a shrewd hit can be expected pay off. When you factor in team value changes, the case for the hit over the long term can be even stronger.

From the PL website : One Wildcard can be played at any time, the January Wildcard can only be used between Gameweeks 20 and 23 (2 Jan 11:30 to 4 Feb 11:30)

    First GW 20 fixture-1500 hrs, 2nd Jan.

So, you have a 2 hour window before the close of GW 20 to play your WC, which would also encompass the entire DGW?

For starters, 15:00 is 3.5 hours after 11:30, not 2 hours. The gameweek deadline is 11:30, play it at 11:31 if you want to. No matter what you do, your GW20 team will contain none of the players you get in on the Jan wildcard.

        Depends what your priority is.

If you want to maximise your overall ranking - then get out the crystal ball and decide who is going to score more.

If you want to beat your opponent, then compare the rest of your two teams. If your's is stronger, play it safe. If theirs is stronger, take the gamble.
