Antonio Valencia continues his return to form with a double-figure points haul at Old Trafford, though it’s a certain Bulgarian who steals the show. Juan Mata again demonstrates his preference for home comforts, Demba Ba’s consistency helps send Bolton to defeat, while Leighton Baines’ Fantasy owners may be sending Howard Webb a belated Christmas present:

Dimitar Berbatov
While Javier Hernandez failed to play a part in any of his side’s 5 goals, the Bulgarian – in only his second start of the season- served a reminder of his capabilities with a hat-trick against Wigan. Wayne Rooney was afforded just less than half an hour by Sir Alex Ferguson and also failed to get amongst the points, with Berbatov firing home a penalty for his third despite Rooney being on the pitch. While many Fantasy managers have been concerned over Robin Van Persie’s possible game time this festive period, Rooney’s omission was a huge shock –and blow- to those who acquired his services for the champions’ favourable run of Christmas fixtures. Given he was benched for this one, though, Rooney looks more assured of a start on New Years Eve at home to Blackburn.

Antonio Valencia
Injuries to others meant the Ecuadorian was forced to play at right-back but he continued his run of consistent points hauls since coming back into the United first XI. Valencia’s goal and assist in the 5-0 romp over Wigan means he has now contributed 6 assists and a goal in his last four matches and can, once again, be expected to return bonus points for his performance. With Ji-Sung Park drafted into the first-team, Nani was shifted back over to the right and, while the Portuguese winger failed to fire, the former mirrored Valencia’s returns in his first start since gameweek 12.

Anders Lindegaard
David de Gea was given the day off yet again, with Lindegaard getting the nod between the sticks. He maintained a remarkable record of recording a clean sheet in every appearance so far this season, with 5 out of 5. Bearing in mind that he has never played two games in a row this season, the chances of Lindegaard keeping his place for the game against Blackburn is perhaps dubious.

Juan Mata
The Chelsea man continued his habit of plundering the points at Stamford Bridge, bagging the Blues only goal in a frustrating 1-1 draw with Fulham. Mata has scored all 4 of his goals and provided 5 of 7 assists in front of the home faithful. Daniel Sturridge’s recent fine run of form came to an unexpected halt, with the forward failing to score of assist for the first time since gameweek 11. Chelsea were unlucky to grab the 3 points, with an inspired display from David Stockdale preventing them from triumphing- the Cottagers keeper made 12 saves in a brilliant display for the visitors.

Clint Dempsey
There’s little doubt Fulham’s fixtures were, on paper, anything but straightforward of late but the American once again proved how pivotal a figure he is for Martin Jol’s side. Dempsey bagged the winner against Liverpool a few weeks back and his equaliser at the Bridge means he has netted 3 times in his last five appearances. With Norwich, Blackburn, Newcastle and West Brom to come in four of his next five, Dempsey has every chance of continuing his recent goalscoring antics.

Martin Skrtel
The Reds were denied a fourth consecutive clean sheet by a Charlie Adam own goal but Skrtel’s potential for points at both ends of the pitch continues to grow. An assist in the surprise 1-1 home draw with Blackburn means Skrtel has now – pre-bonus- averaged 8 point per game over his last four appearances, and with just 3.4% ownership, compared to Jose Enrique’s 37.3%, he’s proving a handy differential in the Reds’ resolute back-four.

Demba Ba
Another game, another goal for the Newcastle forward as Alan Pardew’s side picked up their first win in seven matches. Ba has now scored 14 goals in his last 13 games in a run that has seen his fail to score or assist on only three occasions. Up next, however, are clashes with Liverpool and Man United, and with Ba then set to depart for the African Cup of Nations, his Fantasy owners have something of a quandary on their hands- do they jump ship now or hold until he’s no longer unavailable for selection? There’s no doubt the fixtures are against him but Ba has already netted against the likes of Spurs and United this term and assisted against Man City- clearly, he’s capable of producing regardless of opponent.

Ryan Taylor
Taylor may have lost his starting place to Davide Santon last week but an injury to the Italian allowed him to return to the Newcastle first XI for the trip to Bolton. Taylor had picked up just 6 points in the previous six gameweeks but an assist, in addition to a clean sheet in the 2-0 Reebok triumph, proved dividend for his 32% of Fantasy owners. The 100,000+ managers who shipped him out over the last couple of gameweeks will perhaps be ruing their decision- Santon may find it difficult to dislodge him once again ahead of Friday’s trip to Anfield.

Leon Osman
The Everton midfielder once again played a crucial part for David Moyes’ side as the Toffees fought back to defy Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Having scored both his side’s goals over the previous couple of gameweeks, Osman continued his run of attacking returns, by providing an assist for Leighton Baines’ spot-kick equaliser. There’s no doubt, however, the decision by Howard Webb to award the penalty for a foul on Osman was, shall we say, more than a little fortuitous; the midfielder certainly seems to trip over his own feet in the build-up to the goal, with no Sunderland challenge apparent. Baines’ owners will be more than a little happy here; he’s already on 8 FPL points and could hit double figures if the bonus points fall his way. In a gameweek that has proved frustrating so far, the left-back’s potential haul could be game-changing to many a Fantasy manager, with the FPL cup also underway.

Stephane Sessegnon
Fielded up front alongside Nicklas Bendtner again, Sessegnon provided an assist for the Black Cats opener to follow his goal at QPR last week. He certainly seems to be benefitting from Martin O’Neill’s arrival- this is only the second time this season that Sessegnon has returned attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks. Pre-bonus, he sits on 75 FPL points, only 3 behind Seb Larsson, despite his previous inconsistencies.

Firstly, yeah he's worth keeping for Stokes home game. Secondly, don't get rid of Evans yet. Fergie is full of shit regarding how long players are injured for. Hernandez recent injury is a good example.

    Im still debating and obsessing.

    1) Do I do Evans > Huth this week or Evans > BAE. How many points is a defender going to get in a DGW anyway right.

    2) VDV or BAE for the DGW

Is it mad to get berba for just one week?

Still think its a waste of a transfer as Ade is a nailed on starter. What if Berbs doesn't even get on the pitch next week or only comes on for a 1 pt cameo?

Do it if you want, but most of us on here would consider that move to be unfathomably foolish.

Best player to replace Johnny Evans for the next 3-4 weeks until i plan to use my wildcard? I have 0.5 in the bank.

My current defence for Gameweek 19 is:

Evans, Kompany, J Enrique, (Wes Brown v Man City @ home), (Simpson v Liverpool away)

Same problem for me too, but I have £0.9m in bank.

I think Shotton at Stoke £4.0m has to be worthy of a look in at that price. He seems to be getting starts lately.

Or, maybe gamble on Gallas or Hibbert @ £4.8m who could both give you a DGW in GW20?

I also have Ba but he can wait another week. After all, he may score against Liverpool.

Thanks for the Shotton suggestion. Stoke have Wigan next so surely a clean sheet?

I actually will go for Gallas I think. I can see Spurs getting a clean sheet at Swansea and then they have two home games coming up and I would not be suprised to see two clean sheets of two.

Nevertheless, do you think it would be a good idea to wait a couple of days first just in case Evans somehow makes the Blackburn game.

I have McAuley, who has scored and kept a cleanie in the last 2 weeks he's been on my bench! but you can guarantee he'll go back to being a 1/2 pt merchant again now.

Or Naylor, unless he's still injured.

Shotton would at least provide me with depth and a genuine playing option, cheap entry into Stoke defence and release some extra funds too.

Shotton more reliable than McAuley imo. Stoke have been poor at the back compared to past few seasons, but seem to be getting it together at Britannia at least. McAuley is just a freak for the last two weeks. The goal was a freak, and they could play City 20 times again and not keep a CS.

This would be perfect. RVP hatrick tonight within 75mins. With the record achieved Wenger then benches him for QPR and Fulham. You can then ship him out for GW 19 and spend the proceeds on Tottenham & Everton Players for the DGW. Then in GW20 ship all the dross out with the WC and get a nicely rested RVP back. Everyone's a winner.

More likely, RVP will break his leg in the first minute and we'll all get 2pts for captaining him.

Just a few things wrong with this.
      - He won't be rested vs Fulham, especially if he is benched against QPR - so that is one game he will be benched for, and he could easily come on and bag a goal or 2.
      - Who would you ship him out for ? Besides Adebayor there is no striker in the DGW that I'd want, and I'd still favour RVP vs Fulham to score more than any other Everton player and most Spurs players.
      - Most of us (including me) don't plan on WC'ing in GW20 as it isn't the best time to use it for the majority.

I take your points, I'm not mad on WC'ing in GW20 but have a few issues.

I'm in the awkward position of having RVP, Sturridge and BA and only bale for the DGW. My frontline is great at present but not ideal coming up, what with ADE having a DGW and RVP possibly dropped here and there and BA buggering off. Everyone else in my league has ADE and a few more from TOT & EVE. I've got the feeling I'm going to get mullered in the DGW and am trying to strategise my way out of it with some ideal case scenarios!

There is no chance I would get rid of RVP just for the double gameweek, especially as I've already got Adebayor. In addition, as I've had him since he was 11.9 it would be hard to get him back given he is now 13.2..

In my obsessing about ADE scoring two hatricks in the DGW I probably did miss that, yes. 🙂

Is anyone else finding this year pretty challenging? I was pretty good in years gone past and just can't get anything right this year. My 2011 can be summed up by my last transfer. R Taylor out for JEVANS! Good god that was a mistake!

i made some terrible transfers at the start e.g
            -rooney>suarez before that arsenal game
-got aguero into my team and he got injured(b'burn game)
-stuck with vdv for way too many weeks.

but i've very slowly been climbing up the ladder. 900k to 200k. and hopefullyinto top 100k in januray

Baines is the best Everton option if you can afford him yes.

Wait til after the spurs match to decide - Gallas may be a better bet than Ekotto

Baines, Osman, Drenthe and Howard are probably the safest Everton picks.

Jagielka could always give you an unexpected goal or assist against Bolton though.

Hibbert could be considered if you really are desperate enough that positively you must have an Everton defender for the DGW and Baines and Jags are out of your price range.

Yeah, I realize the graveness of Huth's yellow card situation. But what if he makes it past the Jan1st deadline without getting booked, hes nailed on for so much attacking potential.

BAE on the otherhand in my team, disallows me to get VDV in if I want to.

Wenger is interested in Mario Götze and Lukas Podolski, two of the Bundesliga’s most coveted players, but knows that Arsenal are unlikely to secure major signings next month, making Wenger tempted by the Henry loan. He intends to make a decision this week on that deal and whether he sign a left-back on loan to cover for Andre Santos and Kieran Gibbs, both of whom are injured.

Very interesting info according to me

we need a left back for the remainder of the season, no doubt. i think he will end up signing bridge. as for an attacking player, he see if any injuries occur(esp to VP) before chamkah and gervinho leave for africa. im one of those in favor of signing henry, the likes of park and arshavin are not gonna provide us with enough firepower

what to do at keeper next GW?

    Vorm? Have 2 Spurs attackers
Krul? Away to pool, not a better fixture but at least can grasp for something besides hedging my bets.
    Krul->Sorensen, instead of Brown->Shotton

means starting Sorensen with Kompany, Enrique, BAE , and Sess in a 3-4-3

instead of Krul with Kompany, Enrique, BAE, Shotton in a 4-3-3

this keeper switch is starting to look interesting
