Deadline passed, we’ve just the one match to distract us while we ponder the merits of our latest tinkerings. It’s off to Anfield for what is traditionally a cracker, as Liverpool face Newcastle – the Dugout Discussion chatroom is now open to soak up the match events as they happen…

The team news is in and there are few surprises amongst them. With Luis Suarez twiddling his thumbs after putting his one finger to use at Craven Cottage, Kenny Dalglish recalls Craig Bellamy in tandem with Newcastle old boy Andy Carroll. The script is there, can the big Geordie deliver?

Liverpool’s other change has Jay Spearing make a return, with Maxi Rodriguez making way. He joins Steven Gerrard on the bench.

As for Newcastle, they make just one change with Haris Vuckic drafted in for Leon Best who is amongst the subs. Demba Ba shakes off a “little knock” to his knee to lead the line, carrying the hopes of the travelling Magpies faithful and the expectations of plenty of Fantasy managers. Enjoy the game.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This whole Ade/Bale captain debate for the DGW is a tricky one. Both will play 180mins IMO (obviously barring injuries), and I think Ade will be the 'safer' Captain option. Bale, though, can go nuts in any given game, especially in home games against WBA and Everton, whereas Ade scores more consistently, if you like.

Bale could easily notch a 10-15 point haul in either game, which I think is why he'll get the armband for me.

    Fergie:

    “Cleverley’s a massive loss.

“He, to my mind, is probably the best midfield player in Britain, potentially. He has fantastic promise, so it’s a loss to us.”

I remember fondly when DB was arguing Gibson was the better player. Happy times.

Smokescreen to return against City? I can't imagine the initial prognosis could be THAT wrong. Fergie loves a good ol' smokescreen and he hasn't said how far off from returning Cleverley is exactly, unlike the others.

Does anyone else think Silva will dip in form? All that running about and hard work must take its toll, especially toward the end of the season. He's a key player for city, if his form starts to dip they'll struggle imo. Personally i'll see silva less of a 'must-have' as the season continues.

True, but he's relatively new to playing regularly in the EPL. Every player needs to rest at some point in the season, they're only human. And Silva certainly runs a lot more than the average football athlete.

I think he'll remain consistent as City's main attacking outlet and normally get SOMETHING but rarely deliver the kind of returns Nani/Bale are capable of. So, the same.

Sorry for the repost, got swept away with the tide of comment pages...

Got 2 FTs for the DGW. Here’s the team:

    (Ruddy) – Vorm
    (Wilko) – (McAuley) – Raylor – Jones – Enrique
    (Allen) – Nani – Bale – Silva – Sess
    RVP – Ba – Ade

    £0.8m in the bank.

I’m thinking Sess > Osman and Ba > Sturridge. Sound like a good plan? Or anyone got a better suggestion? Ta.

That's a fair point, actually. Wouldn't get rid of Nani on current form, plus i got him when he was £10m so not worth the loss. And not sure on VdV, don't think he'll get the full 180. Tempted by getting in a spurs defender, though. Reckon Jones will be back next week? Could ship him out for Walker

I'm just saying United are poorer than their recent form suggests.

Also, City were the first team in 5 years to go out with 10 points in CL. They were in the group of death as well. I consider City to have had a better CL campaign than United. I don't think anyone can disagree with that.

Don't really understand why Maxi doesn't get more starts, when he plays he quite often contributes with goals which they seem to lack (except tonight!)

Maybe it's because he's not British....

May I say that Silva has been out of sorts recently, considering the WC coming up and his rotation risk whether there are better options out their. Nani,Mata,Bale,Dempey and even Stevie G come too mind as more players on song.

Anyone considering leaving him out of their WC team???

I must have missed Tot becoming a defensive juggernaut ...

Now: I know Everton is dire, but Tot have their share of injuries. Bale is a monster *at least* twice a season, VDV can barley play 70 minutes, etc.

A motivated Eve with Donovan, Drenthe, Osman - as well as Baines, Saha, maybe a Cahill who remembers how to play ... could defo score.

Not that I would call it 'likely', though 😉
