It feels wrong and yet it’s so right. Another gameweek deadline under lights, so soon after the Boxing Day festivities. Then again, given the largely pathetic returns on offer in gameweek 18, we can’t wait to move on and scratch it from memory – lets bundle into the Matchday Surgery chatroom like desperate housewives hitting the sales…

There’s much to discuss. Having covered off the team news, our Scout Picks were unleashed with Robin Van Persie present and correct. The Dutchman goes into the gameweek with our endorsement then. He tops the Captain Poll, despite real concerns that his pitch time will be cut by a concerned Arsene Wenger, looking to wrap Van Persie’s formerly fragile limbs in cotton wool. We’re confident he’ll get some minutes however, and with the chance to wipe the smile from Alan Shearer’s face, surely QPR will let Van Persie walk a few in? You never really know with Neil Warnock.

Tonight’s Fantasy Premier League deadline is just over an hour away and, following that, Liverpool and Newcastle get the gameweek under way under the Anfield lights. At last the Christmas telly improves.

We’ll be back with the Dugout Discussion and team news prior to the kick-off.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Caught the end of the last post. Go ahead and abuse my rubbish transfers.

    Silva > Drenthe

    4 point hit.

Allows me to do Evans > Baines next GW.

Are you planning to wildcard after the DGW. I personally don't get all the love for Everton. Caulker to BAE is a good move. I just don't understand why anyone would shift Silva, arguably the best player in the Premier League for Rolls Royston.

Id whip out Evans at the next possible opportunity. Donkey of a defender and SAF will have him out of that team as soon as Smalling is fit. Nice team apart from that very similar to mine.

Vorm for me, always go with the home keeper if unsure imo. Should get a fair few save points, but I can't see a cleanie in either tbh.

Also Simpson will most likely be coming on for me, so I'm sort of hedging.

Yeah I did that. I'd do it again too. The outcome is basically irrelevant hen making these choices.

If I said I am going to give you £50 if you can guess which number I will roll on a dice, you get two choices, either 1-5 inclusive, or 6. You'd go for 1-5 every time, because you have 5 times the chance of winning.

If I roll a 6 that doesn't mean you made a bad choice. This game is not that far removed from that analogy, you play the odds and hope for the outcome. Doesn't always work out, but that doesn't mean you made a bad choice. See Kolarov 😛

Right, I'm going for RVP captain. Decided. Seen some outrageous thinking on here by people seemingly trying to justify either going for or against him.

At the end of the day we don't really know but I'm hedging on the fact that if he comes on I think it will be at least half an hour or not at all, in which case VC. Hopefully he'll start but we will see.

That's fine. Playing half an hour isn;t ideal but I can cope with it. Playing nothing is fine. The only thing I don't want to happen in a 5 minute cameo - but I can't see that happening.

The whole point of having a VC is so you can make choices like this, no?

      Sticking with RVP too.

There is nothing concrete either way, rest or no rest. Despite what Wenger has said i do believe that the "record" will have some impact in his decision and i think RVP will start and play at least 60mins. If i am wrong i can only hope he makes no cameo for 1 point.

Its risky going for him and risky going without him - no guarantees

ManYoo have a number of players that can score, Arsenal only have Van P at the moment.... I would go Van P

I know it's all speculation but I will be amazed if rvp doesn't start. He wants the record and wenger will want to keep him happy. Also, it really is a must win game for arsenal

I agree on this. Not sure Wenger will worry too much about the record but he knows he may get RVP sulking on the bench. Plus he only has Chamakh to come in. Plus he will piss off 60,000 home fans. Big time.

but that was shortly after wenger mentioned he was tiring, this is the 2nd time hes said it

blackburns defensive injuries make nani an easy choice over rvp this week for me as even if they both start nani could easily outscore rvp

Certainly wouldn't surprise me if Nani was rested. He certainly didnt look as sharp last time out and will definitely start at Newc. Rafael starting may actually be the decisive factor in this - which of course may mean Valencia being rested. You cannot be the fun of predicting line-ups this time of year!

I don't think that is very relevant. In fact, you could argue he is due a rest then. Park and Valencia/Giggs would be more than a match for Blackburn. I can even see Roon/Wellbeck starting in a wide role

RVP is ridiculously injury prone and therefore Wenger wants to reduc the possibility of one of his glass ankles shattering again. I reckon he'll either start and come off early or wont start and maybe a cameo. Arsenal need the win but they can beat QPR without VP. If they're struggling then they'll bring him on. All speculation though, as an owner I do hope he starts.

If he starts he won't come off until they are at least 2 goals ahead. And that is a big if. They do not look like destroying teams anymore. I kind of expect teams like Wolves/Fulham to get a point at the Emirates nowadays.

Pretty poor and clearly not interested but it would just take Bale/Aguero/Studge to fill their boots and I might be out. Boxing Day is a terrible date for us punters to start the cup. I feel for anyone that went out harshly. Only Simpson's bonus saved me.

Ah, but you cannot beat the magic of the cup! And I have never had a decent run. I am still sore from a first round exit to someone who had Linvoy Primus away at West Ham. He scored twice in the opening 45 minutes. Probably his only ever goals.
