While Chelsea’s run of upcoming fixtures has many a Fantasy manager eyeing up the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Juan Mata, we’re going to throw another hat in the ring this morning – John Terry.

There’s no doubt Terry is a costly option at the back. Coming in at 7.5, he’s the third priciest defender in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) but he’s justified that so far, producing 80 points, joint-top scoring defender with Man City’s Vincent Kompany; all this despite chalking up just four clean sheets this season.

With four goals to his name after 18 appearances, Terry has already equalled his top-scoring campaign for the Blues and has found the net as many times as Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres combined. His game seems to be perfectly suited to this season’s bonus points system, too; he ranks at the top for defenders with 14 and has picked up the maximum bonus in three matches. The Chelsea captain has also proved capable of returning substantial points hauls, picking up double-figures on three separate occasions, a feat bettered only by Frank Lampard for Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

The Blues skipper has been top of the Watchlist rankings for Defenders over the past two weeks now and further analysis of his stats- particularly in comparison to Sturridge – makes for interesting reading. While many may baulk at the idea, it’s worth noting that Sturridge is priced at 7.4 and has returned 82 points (also including 14 bonus), with both players’ tallies almost identical. With cut-price forwards such as Steve Morison and Heidar Helguson proving strong value options up top, there’s room for manoeuvre if Fantasy managers wanted an alternative to the likes of Leighton Baines or Thomas Vermaelen at the back.

Along with Ashley Cole, Terry is the only player to have seen every minute of his side’s campaign thus far – there’ll be no substitutions or rotation when it comes to his game time, a key factor worth considering as the fixture list continues at a hectic pace.

With a run of five games that reads (AVL, wol, SUN, nor, swa) the potential for plundering the points is clearly there and if Terry can continue on the goal trail and grab a clean sheet or two along the way, he could well prove a handy acquisition over the next few gameweeks.

    I have i a defense of:

    Enrique - Evans - Smalling - Simpson - N.Taylor

Smalling, Evans and Naylor are all injury doubts.. Should I consider taking a hit to bring in a Spurs defender or Everton to prepare for the DGW?

    I have Ade & Bale..

    Any thoughts?

Maybe worth doing Smalling > Gallas / BAE now

reasonable chance of that funding itself this week through a sheet

That's what I am thinking. I might only get gametime of 2 of defenders so it might be worth it.. Not sure about Gallas though, with Kaboul, King and maybe Dawson in the rotiationmix for the same position.

It will mean it is impossible for a player to rise by .3m that week. So yes people loading up on DGW players and then wildcarding them out wont get as much benefit as they might otherwise.

I am going to swap Bale in for VDV. Bale was pretty much playing up top while VDV was strangely subdued and deeper. Defoe returning may put Bale back on the wing but also more worrying will be VDV's playing time...too risky he will start both DGW games. Really annoys me how 'arry has stumbled into a winning formation through injuries to Lennon/Defoe. It seemed obvious they couldn't keep playing 4-4-2 on the road.

    🙁

I dont want to lose in the 2nd round of the fantasy cup, waaaahhhhhh.

The opponent is top 20,000, im only top 80,000.
He waited til just recently to make his transfer after seeing my squad, i transferred early.
Hes maxed out his team value with his transfer, all 108.8 million utilized, my inferior 107.1 wont compete. Hes got rvp AND rooney, plus most of my heavy hitters.

    waaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!

anyone else draw a tough cup opponent. of course my mate drew someone ranked about 2.3 million in the world.

Looking at replacements and Ramires has caught my eye. Back from suspensions, good fixtures, prob the most advanced of the midfield 3 (if Lamps isnt playing). Other alternatives are Etherington, Walters and Larsson (although he has City this GW).

For me, definitely Drenthe. If you have a few more pennies, Osman is better.

      If compare yours options:
      Walters > Larsson > Etherington > Sinclair > Ramires
not quite understand how you rate Ramires so high, in terms of fantasy. He is dynamic, but his shooting not clinical and his passing not particularly efficient for assisting a goal.
Walters the best here. A striker, a penalty taker, and good in running channels to score.
Larsson & Etherington is setpiece taker, and have skills to score or assist in open play.
Sinclair is not effective in open play but the penalty taker with $0.7 cheaper then Ramires.

I've got Jones, Evans, Kompany, De Laet and Caulker in defense. Do you think I should replace Caulker (just 0,1m in the bank) with Shotton, so I am able to field a back line that will probably start the game?

I thought of saving the FT and use two + a hit to bring 3 DGW players before GW20.

Kompany has been a great player for me and I am loathe to get rid. However, it would be quite handy to sell him as part of my strategy for the next couple weeks.

If he rises in price again, which is possible, I will be able to sell him for the same amount that is required to by Michah Richards.

This has been a very long winded way of asking if I will regret bringing in Richards with my WC. Will I?

Thank you for your patience if you got this far!!

I wouldn't advise getting rid of Kompany as I got rid of him for Vermaelen just before Chelsea away, thinking he would only get 1 clean sheet in the 4 games. Since then he has got 23 points in 4 gameweeks, leaving me 11 points worse off. Also, Kompany seems to pick up bonuses/ assists recently.

I thought of doing the same, too. But then again I reminded myself that Kompany is the only rotation-proof MC defender. Richards scored a greater amount of attacking points though, but over the course of the season their score will be similar.

I sold Kompany before the Arsenal game as he had looked wobbly, card prone and City leaking goals. He has been the top scoring defender ever since. Whilst I have been juggling Jones and Evans for a total of 6 points. Genius move.

Cheers Gents, some good stuff to mull over.

If I don't sell Kompany it will have to be Vermaelen who I won't lose cash on.

As much as I would love Roon to play up front, I am struggling to convince myself he will. United have so many fit attacking options and limited midfield and defensive resources. Wellbeck will surely get a start? Although I also see him starting at Newc. I think Berb will definitely start this one. Roon may even start on the wing. I am really surprised Rafael keeps getting overlooked despite their desperate need for defenders.

anyone who has RVP and doesn't captain him is mad.

there is no way he would let wenger rest him for a game in which he could potentially break the goals record.

he needs two goals to match shearer, 3 to surpass him. i would not be surprised if he got the latter given the consistency he has shown.

just my opinion but anyone looking elsewhere for a captain is probably over thinking it.

true...yet on the other hand you have a manager who has to think of the team...RVP is injury prone, not a weak player, but he does get injured historically around this time...i dont think he will but Wenger has to be cautious as he is the entire Arsenal team. Could you imagine the Gunner's without RVP? I cant....and as much as I want to see RVP score a hattrick as my captain against QPR and break the record....do you really see Wenger saying, "RVP you need 3 goals instead of what is best for the team...resting against what is sure to be a victory...and then leading Arsenal against a harder matchup Fulham."

I choose Rooney....he is rested and will be eager to score against a struggling Blackburn @ home.

cup opposition has Rooney up front with Suarez and baxter vs my- RVP Ba Kun, similar mid field with the diff him Silva me Mata. backline he is stronger with his Evra Raylor Simp vs my Walker Naylor Simp. thinking maybe Kun to Rooney to seal the deal think Rovers are ripe for a raping, would cost me 4 though, any thoughts?

we tried to have this debate before, i am in the dark, why is walker stronger? based on table data they are almost identical. i havent seen him in the games, so is he getting forward more than bae or summat?
personally id rather have the 0.5 for midfield or forwards, just my opinion

much better overall defender...he steps towards strikers quicker and at the right time allowing for more tackles/interceptions that lead to more BP if possible....he also tends to get forward more than Assou-Ekotto yes....altough both join the attack. This is all coming from an owner of BAE.....yet i wish i had walker for the double GW.
