We see out 2011 with a programme of seven Premier League fixtures, after Gameweek 19 got under way last night with a 3-1 win for Liverpool over Newcastle. Man Utd XI: De Gea, Rafael, Jones, Carrick, Evra, Nani, Valencia, Park, Welbeck, Hernandez, Berbatov.

Blackburn XI: Bunn, Lowe, Samba, Hanley, Pedersen, Henley, Nzonzi, Petrovic, Rochina, Formica, Yakubu.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who turns 70 today, names a peculiar looking side for the second game running. Given United’s 5-0 drubbing of Wigan last time out, who are we to question his selection? However, eyebrows will be raised at the exclusion of Wayne Rooney from the matchday squad, after only featuring for half an hour on Boxing Day.

Phil Jones returns from illness to partner Michael Carrick in defence rather than midfield. Nani and Antonio Valencia play in midfield behind a trio or strikers, leaving Ji Sung Park to man the middle of the park.

As for Steve Kean’s side, injuries to both Junior Hoilett and David Dunn (surprise, surprise), mean Radosav Petrovic and Ruben Rochina start. After his heroics at Anfield, Mark Bunn continues in goal.

After that we’ve five 3pm fixtures, and no evening game allows us to be unfashionably on time for our New Year’s shindigs. This is my last post of 2011, so I wish you all a Happy New Year! See you in 2012!

    I don't understand why there is a need for folk to resort to the mean spirited, and frankly ignorant, taunting of other posters on here in the "LOL at all Nani owners! :)" kind of way, I mean, personally I have a problem with the "LOL" in the first place, because a simple "ha" would suffice, rarely is anyone actually 'laughing out loud', but I digress, it's just not necessary.

    In any event, FFS circa 2007-2009 is dead and gone, it's with O'Leary in the grave.

        I have no issue with individual posters having a laugh off each other, the posts I am referring to are just some tool coming on and posting at large to rub it in. Important to note I luckily am not a Nani owner, but I debated until the 11th hour about RVP (C) and Nani (C), as we all did I am sure, so I sympathise.

        This all sounds more 'lovey, dovey' than I had intended, I just don't see a need for the public at large abuse, that's all.

      I find it funny, mainly because 24 hours ago if I would have said 'I'm acting on a whim, I'm thinking of captaining Yakubu instead of Nani', I'd have had 3000 replies calling me an idiot.

          Oh yeah, I agree. But the replies are the usual 'Nani WILL score more than Yakubu'. Nothing is definite in football. Look a page back, someone told me quite defiantly that my bet would be ruined because 'Norwich will beat Fulham'.

        Oh no Nani was dreadful, at one point there was a stat, 24 crosses I think it was 30% completion rate. He never looked likely, worse player on the pitch by miles. Throughout the 90 minutes he was the main reason we lost the game, bad passes, too many balls in the air, no accuracy at all. Terrible, I'm definitely taking him out for the wildcard, far too inconsistent. I will never captain nani again, he might be worth having as he does score heavily once in a while but captaincy is too much.

            Yeah he looked fairly dangerous in the last 10 mins of the first half, but made too many mistakes and Valencia was far better in the second half.
