Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful of returns for key players ahead of the champions’ trip to Newcastle. Aaron Lennon could return earlier than anticipated for Tottenham, while the injury worries rack up for Martin O’Neill as Sunderland make their way to Wigan:

Aaron Lennon may be in line for a surprise return to the Spurs side this evening, according to reports. The winger suffered a hamstring injury back in gameweek 16 and was withdrawn before the half-hour mark in the 1-0 win over Sunderland but is recovering quicker than anticipated. Harry Redknapp is expected to make a late decision on his availability, though with a new 4-2-3-1 system in place as an alternative to 4-4-2, is in no rush to hurry Lennon back.

Jussi Jaaskelainen is a major doubt for Bolton ahead of their trip to Everton tomorrow evening. Adam Bogdan is on standby to replace him but given that he shipped 5 goals in his only appearance of the season – an error-strewn home match with Chelsea- confidence in the Trotters’ ranks will hardly be high for the Goodison showdown. Good news, perhaps, for those who topped up on Everton players for the double gameweek.

Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs could all be available for tomorrow’s game with Newcastle. Anderson should also feature, according to Sir Alex Ferguson, though the United boss went on to say that no other players are expected back immediately. On the subject of his star striker, Ferguson revealed:

Wayne Rooney will be available of course. We had a few training sessions which he missed. You’ve got to be fit to play in this league, you can’t miss training sessions.

Martin O’Neill will make a late decision on the fitness of Wes Brown after the defender limped out of Sunderland’s win over Man City with a groin problem. The Black Cats boss doesn’t have his problems to seek right now, with David Bardsley a major doubt and Titus Bramble ruled out, with thigh and calf injuries respectively. Kieren Westwood and Kieran Richardson both missed the City match with a virus and are uncertain starters. O’Neill admitted:

Wes will be checked over, as will all the other players who are injured, but I don’t expect him to be involved at Wigan with it being a groin strain. As far as the other players are concerned, Phil Bardsley is the only one who might have an outside chance of an involvement against Wigan.

Chelsea bid to sign Gary Cahill may take longer than previously anticipated. Despite the Blues reportedly agreeing a fee with Bolton for the defender’s services, Andre Villas-Boas admitted yesterday that the two parties were some distance away from finalising any deal.

Neil Warnock revealed he is unlikely to appeal Joey Barton’s red card picked up against Norwich. The midfielder has protested his innocence over an alleged head-butt on the Canaries Bradley Johnson but Warnock feels recent decisions, particularly Wolves’ failure to have Nenad Milijas’ dismissal at Arsenal overturned, may lead to any appeal being futile.

Alan Pardew received some positive injury news todays, with Gabriel Obertan being passed fit to face former club Man United. The winger was previously a doubt with a foot injury but has recovered sufficiently ahead of tomorrow night’s home clash against the champions.

The beauty of not playing your WC too early means that you can at least get a bit of a look at these players before taking a punt.

So in answer to your question I'll be watching them, though very much doubt Macheda will make it into my team

    Silva - Walters - Johnson B - Larsson - Valencia
Sturridge - Van Persie - Aguero

    0 in the bank

    B:

    Vorm - Al-Habsi
    Shotton - Evans J - Kelly S - Jones - Simpson
    Silva - Walters - Dempsey - Reo-Coker - Valencia
Sturridge - Van Persie - Aguero

    0 in the bank

Studge or Yak is a bit of a toughie, actually. But I suspect the Yak might run out of steam in the not too distant future, his fitness is always questionable. So if Studge, there's quite a few Mid options for £5.7m, perhaps Allen (SWA) or Cleverley? Isn't he back soon?

Most of the time. It has to go up 0.2 for you to get 0.1 I think, so if it's risen by an odd number you lose 0.1 on that player in addition to the half already lost.

Because player prices inflate and when you sell (remove) them you don't get what they're currently worth but a price relative to what you bought them at. 102.6 is your real/true funds.

The price shown on your transfers page is a player's selling price. This selling price may be less than the player's current purchase price as a sell-on fee of 50% (rounded up to the nearest £0.1m) will be applied on any profits made on that player.

For example, if you buy a player for £8.3m and when you transfer him his price is £9.0m, his selling price will be £8.6m.

Sounds a lot like my christmas! I Unfortunately gained a bit as well, but fortunately lost that much in the build up to christmas as I know what I'm like. Now back to losing it again, run run run.

Sounds like you have earned that hit sir! Hope it pays off for you. I took a 4 point hit this week and splurged a little on DGW players, about 50 points ahead at the top of my ML so thought I could afford to! Here's to a Bale hat-trick tonight!!

I have a gym membership but it's more like Charity as I'm just giving away the money every month. I may have to join you and fight the battle of the bulge. I play 6 a side footie on the local 3G pitch every Saturday at 12pm so that is the bare minimum and probable maximum I will do to get back in "shape".

I see we both went with 5 DGWs and it is looking decent so far. I really want Bale to rip it up, quite a few in my ML captained RVP. No idea why, probably just didn't want to break the habit of the last 6 or 7 weeks.

I used to donate to Target Fitness every month, after a years worth of generosity I decided it was better spent elsewhere. I find that running is the best, you're exercising as soon as you leave your front door. I would love to play more footie, barely get any time to, but a couple of my friends do so when I get a bit of fitness back I'll jump back into my normal RB slot. I imagine in 6 a side no one has a fixed position?

Yeah 5 DGWs...not sure how my Everton ones will turn out, but the Spurs ones have GOT to pay off surely! Hopefully we'll both be rewarded. A lot of people in my league don't like messing with their teams for some reason, I asked them about missing the deadline and they said they were happy...weird.

A keeper and one defender are usually required to cover counter attacks but the rest are usually just midfield/attack all rolled into one. RB and a runner eh? You'd probably be expected to be part of the box to box players.

Been working on a WC team,

    Vorm/Mignolet

    Jones/Enrique/Naylor/Simpson/Kelly

    Silva/Bale/Demspey/Valencia/Walters

    RVP/Adebayor/Sturridge

Kelly is a wait and see maybe change to Evans,
Also not too keen on Adebayors fixtures but not sure who else to get.

    Any suggestions welcome 🙂

I had a 19 point lead going into the last four weeks against a two-time winner. I didn't have a wildcard but over the last four weeks I changed my team one player at a time to match his. Over the last two weeks he took multiple hits in a last-gasp effort but I had guessed most of his changes and matched some of them. I won by over 50 points. Sneaky, but effective.

Much better, probably go with c now although i still think Aguero could be a gem from here on in.

In terms of the keepers, ive had Vorm and Hen for ages and they have rotated brilliantly for me but from the little glance ive had, it starts to get a bit more difficult for the next few.

are you going to play vorm every week, or rotate him?
if you are playing vorm every week him, might as well get ruddy instead of al habsi / henn, as he is cheaper.

        Thanks guys... Really really helpful.

Planning on playing Vorm every week - I currently have Given as my second goalkeeper who's been out for ages.

I too like Aguero, so not sure what to do...

Will have another play and be back later.

So no news on Mr. Drenthe no? I had an inkling a few weeks back that he might be a serious doubt for two games in the DGW, I can't believe I have Osman in my team too, don't really rate the guy but you can't argue with his stats so far.

I am happy enough with my team, will probably ship Baines or Osman this week for my freebie, or hold on, and then WC at the end GW23 in advance of GW24.

It is valid right up until the deadline for GW24, or as the FPL puts it, until the end of GW23, it's pretty straightforward language to be honest, don't know why there is any confusion on this site.

    2. the lampard bench: FAIL
    3. the torres starts over drogba at the start of the season: FAIL
    4. the luiz selection over alex: FAIL

basically the guy did nthn right, and someone should tell abramovic that his team is not a place where managers come to learn the trade
get an experienced manager, at least one that has more experience than his players

Not sure I completely agree, Lampard may have scored a couple this season, but his general presence on the pitch is poor. He had to give Torres a chance, there's talent in there somewhere...Luiz should be playing better, he has the talent also imo. High defensive line he sacked off as soon as it didn't work did he not?

Nice to see you've finally got a grav and linked your team btw 🙂

i've never got all this lampard hatred. okay he slows down the pace but we still need a finisher, don't we? there's no one in the squad with a better eye for goals than lamps. only studge comes close, that's it.

Yeah absolutely, but as soon as the defensive midfielders have the ball the full backs will have gone up and chances are at least one CB will be out of position too. That and they take more pressure from other players than CBs do so it's harder and when they lose the ball the opposition will get it with more players to attack.

Third Villa goal against Chelsea is a decent example, when Lampard messed up in a defensive midfield position, http://watchhighlightsonline.blogspot.com/2011/12/video-bent-goal-vs-chelsea-stephen.html

Losing it as a CB is of course awful too, no denying that.

and what makes you think he's going to be better in midfield? Over the last 2 games, Luiz has easily been our best defender.

The problem lies in our midfield who leave the defenders with too much to do. And course, JT-Luiz partnership will get better with time.

      Easy for you to say.

The only real blunders that I could possibly complain of are his untimely substitutions (like taking out Mata last game; Mata, Romeu & Studge against Wigan) and for maybe over-utilizing Mikel. With more experience, he is bound to get better at getting his subs right & with time, he will have a better bench.
