The Sunderland revival brings their Fantasy assets to the fore, with Stephane Sessegnon looking particularly ripe for investment. Yaya Toure helps Man City dismantle a sorry Liverpool, while Spurs make a slow start to their double gameweek, thanks to a stubborn West Brom.

Yaya Toure
There’s no doubt the Ivorian’s imminent departure to the African Cup of Nations is a huge blow for Man City and his performance last night against Liverpool served a reminder of just what Toure brings to Roberto Mancini’s side. Post-match, the Italian admitted the player was “irreplaceable“ as Toure’s guile and craft, combined with dynamic running from start to finish, helped him to a goal and assist against a lacklustre Liverpool. Pre-bonus, he’s already on 11 points, his best haul of the season. In terms of “value”, he is neck and neck with David Silva on 11.2, having returned 85 points from a price of 7.6.

David Silva
Without a single assist in his last five appearances, some of Silva’s Fantasy owners were getting restless prior to last night’s performance. With City having failed to score in their last couple of matches and perhaps with the double gameweek in mind, the previous three gameweeks had seen plenty transfer the little Spaniard out but Silva returned to form, with a couple of assists helping the league leaders get back to winning ways. City’s fixtures over the next couple of months look particularly enticing and with the winter wildcard in play, he’ll no doubt be prone to plenty more investment, adding to his current 43.4% ownership, easily the most popular player in the game.

Gareth Bale
While Tottenham failed to return the points hauls many of us had anticipated, the Welshman got his double gameweek off to a reasonable start with an assist for Jermain Defoe’s only goal. Bale has now provided an assist in each of his last four home appearances and looks a good shout for a share of the bonus, which is more than can be said for Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togo international had a poor night, though there’s still reason for optimism if he’s paired with Defoe again for next week’s clash with Everton; the pair had started five games together prior to last night, with Adebayor bagging 5 goals, including a couple of braces.

Stephane Sessegnon
Here’s a damning stat for Steve Bruce- Sunderland have score more goals in their last two away games under Martin O’Neill than they did in all seven on the road under the previous regime. Sessegnon again stepped up for the Black Cats and looks a different Fantasy prospect altogether since Bruce’s departure- a goal and assist at the DW Stadium means he has returned attacking points in each of his last four appearances as the Wearsiders surge up the table. The Sunderland players have spoken of a renewed self-belief and a look at Sessegnon’s game time perhaps explains why- he has played every minute of O’Neill’s six-match tenure, whereas under Bruce, the highest number of consecutive ninety minute appearances he mustered was three. With Swansea and Norwich to come at home after a tricky trip to Liverpool, he’ll have no shortage of Fantasy investors over the next few weeks as wildcards come into play.

David Vaughan
Another beneficiary of the O’Neill effect, Vaughan has started all six of the new manager’s games in charge- his longest run in the first XI prior to this was three matches. A goal and assist against Wigan is indicative of his flourishing form within the Sunderland side and he has now netted twice since Bruce left- he had previously failed to score all season.

James McClean
Afforded his first start against Man City last week, the winger picked up 3 bonus points and O’Neill’s decision to keep him in the first XI was vindicated at Wigan. McClean grabbed a goal in the 4-1 rout and priced at just 4.5, is a potential bargain right now, given his side’s buoyant form. It’s perhaps debatable if he’ll keep that first-team place once Sunderland have a clean bill of health but McClean – who had previously been granted 47 minutes in the first 14 gameweeks by Bruce- has demonstrated he’s more than capable of producing.

Hugo Rodallega
The Columbian continued his recent impressive form, despite Wigan’s home thrashing. Rodallega’s goal denied the Black Cats a second consecutive clean sheet and adds to his couple of assists in the previous game at Stoke. The Latics have a strong set of fixtures on the horizon from gameweek 24 onwards, though, (EVA, bol, AVL, SWA, nor, WBA) and Rodallega could continue to prosper if his side can rediscover the recent form that had seen them draw with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, in addition to picking up a point at the Britannia. Victor Moses’ owners take note, though; the winger was benched for the first time this season, though an injury to Albert Crusat saw him subbed on just before half-time

Currently enjoying a top 2k standing but getting an itchy Wildcard finger. Considering the old Lindegaard 1st choice and Vorm as back up and having a fiddle with a few short term, potential to do something benchwarmers so I can get an expensive frontline by downgrading Nani to Valencia, what do you reckon?

    Richards Jones Kelly Shotton Simpson

Can't decide between Kompany & Richards though.. sold kompany a few weeks ago for Evans (that worked out well), and he rose to 6.6 which annoyed me. In the back of my head I know he's worth the extra 0.3 over Richards tbh.

Stupidly got him in at 6.8m so have already lost 0.2m... looking at fixtures, I think I will get rid in my GW24 wildcard. I'm going with just Kompany as a 6m+ defender, and loading up elsewhere... I don't see much potential in the other pricey defenders apart from City's.

5 at the back is a bit of a waste of some good attacking options you have. Liverpool clean sheets are not happening that often. I think Walters at Anfield is better than Enrique.

Osman against a poor Villa side also. Drop Simpson maybe.

      A) Decent, not going to waste a striker spot on him though, regardless of his 'value'.
      B) If he holds down a place, then why not.
      C) Never.
      D) Interesting proposition. Depends if Fulham spend much this month.
      E) Looks solid.
      F) No guarantee that Dalglish will always start him, just look at last night. Also reverse OOP.
      G) Still don't think he'd be guaranteed minutes, City have many options, mostly better than AJ.
      H) Lambert loves rotation.
      I) Like it. Fixtures are very strong, has form, although same argument as A).
      J) McClean > Colback
      K) See above! Probably the best option at 4.5 (this is very premature btw)
      L) Never in a million years.
      M) Again, same argument as A. Would rather Helguson though, unless QPR spend big on a forward.

Afternoon all. Any good keeper rotations coming up? Vorm and Hennessey have done me proud since the last WC (thanks for the heads up Fratboy) but I might change both when I WC.

I know it's been said before but Vorm has terrible fixtures coming up. Swansea are bottom of the CS ticker for the rest of the season with only four "easy" fixtures (NOR EVE BLA WOL) from 18. He has kept 3 away CS recently but it'll be harder to rely on Home CS with the visit of ARS CHE and MCI over the next 8 GW.

Fixtures improve towards the end of the season but there may be a lot of 2s and 3s till then.

Also penalty saves, tones of saves and unexpected CS and BP upcoming. I learned that lesson with Schwarzer and Foster in the previous seasons. You just play him all the time. If u spend 0.5-1m you could get what 10-15 pts more and even less if you go with wrong rotating.

15m gives you hart n kompany

in the last 5 games they would have got 61pts

21.5m gives you silva n aguero

in the last 5 games they would have got 50pts

i am seriously considering going with hart kompany and richards for their fixtures from 22 onwards

can see them outscoring the combo of silva/aguero

LOve the idea of doubling on City defs, but struggle to see Hart being better value than the cheaper goalkeepers. Think I'll go with two of the defenders and then add one midfielder/striker, for better captaincy option and because I also think they'll score well enough.

I still think he offers a lot, but Liverpool don't know how to use him. He's obviously not on form at the moment, but he needs a foil imo. Suarez isn't it a) because he's greedy and b) unpredictable. Was talking to one of my brothers about Carroll who's a big toon fan, he would have him back in a flash. He scored the perfect hat trick against Vila after all.

Yeah that's why he's still interesting imo, because he was genuinely good at Newcastle for a while, even against good opposition. I don't rate him particularly but I do think he could probably do better than this, but he won't in this Liverpool team. Strange situation.

Liverpool are useless without Suarez and don't score enough goals with Suarez.
I though Carroll had presence last night, but Henderson looks like a little boy lost.

Against Newcastle without Suarez they were okay.

Very up and down, Henderson. I think there is a chance he improves over time and turn out to be a good player. And then there is a 20m problem that is Stewart Downing. He used to be all right at Aston Villa but he's not doing anything now

Anyone else thinking of a complete spurs clearout after GW 23? Also can the winter wildcard be used between gw 23 and 24? It states "until Gameweek 23 ends (4 Feb 11:30)"

Yes it can. Some of them are keeping Bale, Ade or both for those home fixtures. If fitness is right I fancy keeping VDV. Haven't decided yet

Cheers for that. I have a cunning plan but I might end up making a Baldricks of it.

Cleaning out all but Bale... yes. Would be cautious though as they're much deeper and stronger this year.

Thanks Boa. I heard some posters on here said he will still be available for QPR, so wondering.
