Roy Hodgson fears Chris Brunt may be set for an extended spell on the sidelines. Harry Redknapp awaits news on the extent of calf injuries to William Gallas and Sandro, while Bacary Sagna is reportedly ahead of schedule in his comeback from an ankle injury:

Spurs’ hard-fought win over West Brom last night came at price after William Gallas and Sandro both left the field with calf injuries. The pair are awaiting scans today and, while the severity of Gallas’ injury is yet unclear, Harry Redknapp revealed post-match that Sandro appears to have torn the muscle, with a long absence now expected. The injury problems racked up yesterday, with Jake Livermore, who came on as a sub for Sandro, also limping out of the Baggies clash. Scott Parker missed the game with a knee problem but is hopeful to be available for next week’s game with Everton.

Roy Hodgson has revealed Shane Long missed last night’s game at Spurs due to a back injury. While it is not thought to be serious, it could make the Irishman’s status questionable for the next few weeks. The Baggies boss admitted Chris Brunt is facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury against Everton. Hodgson is bracing himself for bad news over the playmaker’s availability:

He has a CT scan today – but we know it’s a serious injury. It’s just a question of the degree of seriousness.

David Moyes is hopeful that loan-signing Landon Donovan can hit the ground running against Bolton tonight. The Everton boss has revealed the American has trained well, looks sharp and is looking forward to getting on the field:

Fitness-wise he is not someone who carries a lot of weight. He is quite lightweight and he looks okay. He has settled in very quickly, so we look forward to getting him in the game and seeing how he does.

Reports suggest Arsene Wenger has been handed a defensive boost with the news that Bacary Sagna could return to the first team sooner than expected. Sagna has been missing since October with a broken ankle and may be fit to face Manchester United in gameweek 22.

Martin O’Neill received some positive injury news today, with both Craig Gordon and Michael Turner returning to reserve action this afternoon. Though their results on the pitch have been impressive, the Black Cats have struggled for options, with a few of O’Neill’s first-team squad struggling with injuries and illness of late.

Hatem Ben Arfa has voiced his frustration at not seeing more first team action for Newcastle this season. The Frenchman has declared himself ‘completely fit’, but believes that his playing style doesn’t suit that of manager Alan Pardew. While Fantasy managers are hopeful of more game time for the Frenchman when Demba Ba departs for the African Cup of Nations, Ben Arfa bemoaned

It’s true we don’t share quite the same philosophy. For him, it’s more crosses, a bit of a more direct style, whereas I’m more the kind of player who likes to play short passes.

Wigan striker Albert Crusat was helped off the pitch during last night’s defeat against Sunderland with a back injury. The Spaniard was replaced after 38 minutes by Victor Moses and was in some discomfort as he left the field. Roberto Martinez said:

We will assess Albert over the next 24 hours, but he couldn’t breathe when he came off so it is a worry.

Mick McCarthy’s first-team options have increased today, with the news that Michael Kightly has returned to Wolves after a three-month loan spell with Watford.

If everyone is posting WC teams now, and to be honest, all looking pretty similar, and not all that different from current teams, how about some contributions to a differential WC team. Nearly 100 points behind my rival now (beaten him every year to now - and yes he uses FFS as well), and need a few gambles to come off.

    Suggestions?

You could have identical teams and catch up 100 points by the end of the season on captain choice alone. Only worry about differentals if you're 100 points behind with 4 weeks left.

I agree, chip away, ten points a week rather than trying to focus on differentials which may actually push you further back. There is half the season yet, just better captaincy choices than him could close that gap.

      Fulham stiker perhaps Ruiz.
      Chris Samba..attacking threat
S Petrov - villa have great fixtures and he gets forward
      W Routledge as the cheapie.
      Balotelli

also keep an eye on who may prosper from ACON departures, Milner with Toure going for example? Could Ba's departure bring Best back as a cheap striker differential.

All these are risks...so I wouldn't opt for more than 2-3 of this list. ~A whole team of differentials is a whole world of rubbish.

Yeah, Brunt out is no good for Odem. Could be a bad idea but need to switch out Ba for someone temporarily until wildcard in gw23.

Alternatively could try Agbon, like him as a player but Villa are pretty poor most of the time. That would be a punt..

    Re-post from last topic:

Just a quick wildcard team I put together – nothing has been activated, although the way I’m currently feeling – I’m very tempted. Looking to do this in GW22.

    Sorenson/Stockdale(Schwarzer will come in eventually)
    Kompany/Richards/Hangeland/Shawcross/Caulker
    Silva/Bale/Dempsey/Walters/Sess
    RVP/Sturridge/Helguson

Plan is to use the two City boys, plus the Fulham/Stoke GK/DF rotation, dependant on the fixture (GW22 I’d play all 4 plus Sorenson) and possibly play a 3-5-2 each week, but to be honest – I haven’t done the logistics properly yet.

No Utd attack, so could downgrade Sturridge to Yak and then upgrade Sess to Valencia.

    Thoughts?

so much money on the bench all the time. 2 city defs is fair enough but the other 3 might as well be rotating cheapies surely?

one of walters/sess is fair enough, but why not go with one of them who rotates with a cheapie 5th mid?

all of that should allow you to get some united coverage.

Hi all, just wondered if you have any thoughts or criticisms of my current team, as of GW 21.

    GK) Vorm
DEF) Danny Simpson, Shawcross, Enrique, Kompany
    MID) Sessegnon, Bale, Dempsey
    ATT) Adebayor, RVP, Sturridge
BENCH) Hilario (GK), Brunt (MID - injured), Wes Brown (DEF - injured), Joe Allen (MID)

Obviously starting XI is rotated depending on fixtures and injuries etc.
Just got rid of Ba as he's off to the Cup Of Nations shortly.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, Peter

The first major transfer news of the new year concerns a move that will actually take place over the summer. Although he'd been linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea, Marco Reus of Borussia Mönchengladbach has confirmed today that he'll be joining Borussia Dortmund at the end of this season.

Reus doesn't look like a straight replacement for Mario Götze. Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said today that he expected Götze to stay until at least 2013 - only an offer in the region of "a billion euros" would make him change his mind. It could all be a ploy to drive the transfer fee up, of course, but Dortmund are clearly desperate to keep him.

Everytime we linked with absolutely top class players, we loose out to barca, madrid, even london clubs. Dont think they want to live in manchester unless they get stupid money. We usually buy prem players or promising players who have not yet reached world class level.

Saying this though, Fergie doesnt seem to buy German players. The noises from Benfica and the benfica connected paper all seem to suggest we are getting Gaitan this summer. Fine by me.

But he is super hyped, with like messi quotes littered around him. He is not a C.Ronaldo from lisbon or vidic from spartak. Pretty under the radar compared to the media frenzy around gotze. We are seriously his 4th, 5th choice.

Those sort of flair players would be a luxury anyway imo. We need a Javi Martinez style player more. Steel, and ability on the ball. Martinez, Cleverley and Carrick/Ando would be incredible.

    Afternoon guys, my team:

    Krul, Vorm
    Enrique, Evans, Warnock, Caulker, BAE
    Walcott, Bale, Nani, Walters, Dyer
    RVP, Adebayor, Ba

    0.4 in the bank.

Got to get rid of Ba for the ACON, and have a few other players on my radar for removal (Walcott mainly).

Question is, should I WC now and just get it done, or should I just use my 1 FT to get Ba out and save the WC for a few weeks when there is a bit of a fixture shift that would favour revamping a squad accordingly?

    Thanks!

Walcott wouldn't be a replacement for Ba - he is a midfielder for one, plus I already have him.

    Hi guys

Would really appreciate your input - how does this WC team look?

    Lindegaard (Vorm)
    Enrique, Kompany, Caulker (Simpson, Shotton)
    Silva, Nani, Valencia, Bale (McClean)
    Sturridge, Aguero, RVP

Would have liked to squeeze Mata or Sessegnon in, but not overly keen on dropping Valencia. Still not sure of striker spots - at the moment i've got Adebayor instead of Aguero.

    cheers!

      Any moolah in reserve?

I would have just one of Nani and Valencia and spread your bets a bit wider by getting somebody like Mata, Dempsey etc...

Could you do Nani -> Mata/Dempsey and have enough money to upgrade McClean to somebody else?

Thanks for the reply. Only 0.1 in reserve 🙂

I would have 0 in the bank if i swapped Nani and McClean out for Sessegnon and Dempsey, but that would mean i'd always have to bench one of Silva, Dempsey, Sessegnon, Valencia, Sturridge, Aguero or RVP (or two of them if i wanted to play more than 1 defender out of Caulker, Shotton and Simpson).

I could downgrade Valencia to Sessegnon, but i'd just be using the spare money to upgrade subs...

I've read a few 'I'm thinking of dumping RVP" posts recently.

I just want to make this perfectly clear RVP is text book season keeper.

Main goal threat in an attacking side, on penalties, almost breaking records. The only way he leaves my team is if some kind of bizarre anti-RVP gun militia is set up, kidnaps me, puts a gun to my head and gives me a stark choice between death and ditching RVP. Then and only then will he leave my team.

...or if he gets injured, obviously.

I've considered this long and hard and realised that there is a third option I hadn't considered, that of an anti-RVP gun militia being set up and kidnapping RVP fans.

        So to recap

RVP only leaves my team if:
        1. He dies
        2. I die
        3. An anti-RVP gun militia is set up, kidnaps me and threatens to kill me unless I ditch him.

this is where it gets philosophical. If I die, will the team of the late-me still be the same team of the alive me? How can RVP be in the team that is no longer the same team that was set up.

It s a bit like that question, if a twig falls in a wood but no one is around to hear it, does it make a noise?

Wanna add Adebayor to my squad by selling Yakubu. Fwd - RVP, Yakubu, Sturridge
However would have to downgrade midfield

Mid – Mata, Osman, Nani, Bale, Gomez

    Who to downgrade???
Or should i stick to Yakubu???

Probably won't be enough, but Osman > Moses could get you 2m.

Maybe look at your defense.. unless you're low on £ it looks like you have a lot tied up at the back.

Yakubu has decent fixtures over next 3. Save til wildcard.

Based on what you have, you could go Osman > Moses = £2m saved
BAE/Raylor > Kelly for the rest

I'd stick to Yak since the DGW is already gone.
