Demba Ba signs off for the African Cup of Nations with a devastating forward display to send Man United to their second straight defeat. Anders Lindegaard’s clean sheet record is well and truly over, while Tim Howard nets Everton’s only goal as David Moyes’ side kicked off their double gameweek in downbeat fashion:

Demba Ba
A goal and assist for the Newcastle forward continued a remarkable Fantasy season that sees him sit second in the overall rankings with a score of 125 points, pre-bonus. Since he made his first start in gameweek 5, Ba has scored 15 goals and provided 3 assists and has so far picked up 18 bonus points, returning attacking points in ten of those fifteen first-team appearances. One of Ba’s best facets as a Fantasy player is his ability to produce whether home or away- 7 of his goals have come in front of his own fans, with 8 on the road; he’s the anti-Jonathan Walters, if you like. His departure for the African Cup of Nations is now imminent and with it will come a drop in price- considering he’s only 7.6 just now, it only makes Ba more of an outstanding bargain upon his return.

Ryan Taylor
With Gabriel Obertan failing to shake off a toe injury in time to face his former club, Taylor’s versatility afforded the full-back a place on the right flank. This allowed Alan Pardew to solve the dilemma of how to fit both Taylor and Davide Santon in the same first XI with the latter slotting in at left-back. Given that it worked to such devastating effect, the Newcastle boss may think twice about changing a winning formula ahead of the home game with QPR next gameweek. Certianly, post-match, the Newcastle boss admitted this was the best team that “was available“.

Yohan Cabaye
The former Lille man is coming to the fore as the second half of the season kicks into gear. An assist against Liverpool last week was followed by an outstanding free-kick against United as Newcastle shook of the lethargy of last week’s Anfield performance. It’s the first time this season that Cabaye has returned attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks and at 5.9, his set-piece duties and flourishing form could see him pick up plenty Fantasy suitors ahead of a run of games that reads: (QPR, ful, bla, AVL, tot, WOL).

Anders Lindegaard
With five clean sheets from his first five appearances, the Dane once again ousted David De Gea from the Man United first XI. His immaculate record was dismantled by a rampant Newcastle, though, as United failed to deal with their hosts’ determination and midfield dominance. Priced at 4.4, though, Lindegaard certainly seems just as capable as earning starts as the 6.4 priced Spaniard now but with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side facing four of the top six in the next seven gameweeks, including trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, their backline may struggle to produce the points.

Tim Howard
So far, it’s been a bit of a disaster for those Fantasy managers who loaded up on Everton players ahead of the double gameweek. A home game with Bolton offered plenty promise- Everton had conceded no more than a single goal in each of their last eight matches and with the Trotters out of sorts, a victory for David Moyes’ side was very much on the cards. Howard’s goal, a long kick downfield helped by the wind that bounced over stand-in keeper Adam Bogdan in the opposition net, summed up an unlikely night. Phil Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell were all forced off, with David Moyes anxiously awaiting the availability ahead of next Wednesday’s trip to White Hart Lane. Those who have plenty Spurs players, however, will be licking their lips in anticipation of more Toffees withdrawals.

Gary Cahill
While most of the recent talk has centred around his alleged departure to Chelsea, the centre-half hit the headlines for his on-pitch display last night. Cahill returned to goalscoring ways to secure a vital three points for Bolton, as his first goal since the opening day of the season lifted Owen Coyle’s side off the bottom of the table and helped the Trotters record back-to-back away wins. Priced at 5.2, he’s served a reminder of his capabilities and if Cahill’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge does, indeed, go ahead, he’ll no doubt attract the interest of plenty more than his current 18.7% Fantasy owners.

Chris Eagles
Afforded a first start since gameweek 15, Eagles got amongst the attacking points for the first time since the first week in November. Owen Coyle opted for a 4-5-1, with Eagles on the right and Martin Petrov on the opposite flank, utilising the pace of David N’Gog as a lone frontman. Eagles picked up an assist while N’Gog once again got amongst the points for the second away game in succession, netting the away side’s opener after they had gone behind to Tim Howard’s bizarre effort for the hosts.

Nothing to do with highest scoring sub....the only way the first sub on wouldn't be Barton if he was only playing 1 up front then a striker would have to come on and it would be depending on who was the highest in the "chosen" pecking order.

Judging by what you have said he's playing more than 1 striker.

"Break the formation relates to min of 1 gk, 3 df, 3mids or 1 for

          It's GW20 and you don't know this?

It is the person placed first on the subs bench who comes on unless that will result in your team having less than 3 defenders in which case the highest placed defender on the bench comes on.

You know what I mean, ill or not that's 3 games with just 4 points. Not saying I'm getting rid, just if I had got Ba or Yakubu instead...

Ba > Sturridge in GW19 has been delightful.

My best piece of business this season was a 4 point hit for Aguero & Drenthe > Nani & Ba a couple of weeks ago right before they got 4 goals and an assist. All the newbs in my league then proceeded to get Ba in even though he was off to the ACON shortly and started him against United 🙁

          All my good work undone.

              What's that Ironman league?

There should be some kind of 'last 3 seasons league' with some kind of running total or FIFA world rankings type ranking....

If Shola is on the pitch, it'll be him.... if not, Cabaye is in with a good chance.

I think I heard a stat that Shola has scored all 10 of his PL penalties and they've all been at home.

Also with Ba out Shola is most likely going to start in his place is he not? So Cabaye might not even get a look in?

It's possible yeah, I would like to see Ameobi and Ben Arfa up top, but he could easily go Ameobi and Best.

Either way, he started Ameobi over Best vs Man Utd so injuries permitting, Ameobi should be starting. He doesn't usually complete 90 mins though.

Made my free transfer for next week, planning to WC GW22 as unlikely to field a decent team.

    Transfer: Cahill>Dempsey

    Friedel
    Jones Simpson Tierney*
    Walters Bale Nani(c) Dempsey
    RVP(vc) Sturridge Adebarndoor

    Hennessey Hoolahan Shotton Jagielka

I've put everything in order of preference and injury related blah blah blah 🙂

Yeah looks good to me and a solid transfer. I'd love to get Dempsey in this week but refuse to do it for a hit. Bale getting injured is the only way it'll happen!! I like the Nani (c) choice. I'm thinking of going with Rooney.

Despite a poor score this week, I'm planning on not making any transfers injuries permitting to leave me with an xi of:

      Vorm

      Walker, Baines, Warnock, Evans

      Ben Arfa, Valencia, Bale

      Ade, RVP, Rooney

With Walters first sub if Evans/Ben Arfa don't play.

Like it Heco, like it. I think Rooney(c) is braver than Nani but we are playing Bolton, just that Rooney was AWFUL against you guys.

Wish I could play 4 at the back this week...just can't find the players haha.

Yeah perhaps ... I don't think there's many other obvious captain choices but I could be tempted by a Spurs player again I suppose.

There's a few players I'm looking forward to wildcarding out but this week should be ok.

Also looking for a two week flirt to replace Jags with before my wildcard. For about 5.7, I thought maybe Bosingwa, Chelsea's next two fixtures are good. Is he back in due to injuries?

Bosingwa is so dreadful that I actually think Luiz might be a better defender. Can't see them getting a clean sheet again this season unless they sign someone.

    Vorm Westwood
    Jones Simpson Brown Enrique BAE

    Rvp Sturridge Adebayor

I am Wc next week so, for this week shall i do Brown ➡ Shutton/Kelly/ Caulker ?

And Is Krul/Vorm Combo will work for the second half of the season ?

Nani is frustating me what should i do with him, also is walters and sess a must haves player?

My little trigger finger keeps telling me to shoot myself and blow my wildcard, but my little brain says, "Hold it, hold it, hold it...".

However my brain is also saying - if I don't play it now, I might not be able to get that Kompany dude in...Current dilemma looks like this:

    OUT = Smalling, BAE, Adebayor
IN = Kompany, Kelly (Fulham), Aguero

What do I? WHAT DO I? DO?

dilemas on my WC this week.

    couple of questions :

    1) is Aguerro a must have or is Adebayor/Sturridge gonna be nearly as good
    2) If I dont play Aguerro, I can afford Dempsey with one of the above two and a Friedal instead of Krul and Kompany instead of Richards - worth it or not?
    3) If I play Aguerro I will be forced to have Fergusson in Midfield who doesnt play, is this worth it!

    Thanks!!

    Also seperate questions:

    1) Do you think Kompany is a must have over Richards, or will Richards score just a much?
    2) Is Walker a must have over BAE, or is he not worth the extra dosh?
    3) Is Friedal worth the extra cash over Krul?
    Cheers!!!

Struggling to think of what to do for my WC…will leave it till later and currently have 2 free transfers. Any advice on upgrades?

    Vorm - Al Habs
    Shawcross, Assou-Ekotto, Kompany, Williams, Jones
    Johnson, Moses, Bale, Silva, Ferguson
    Adebayor, RVP, Auguero

Any way to get Nani or Yakubu in? Might bring in Stoke Keeper for Habs. Also, any double gameweeks coming up? Thanks
