Thierry Henry returns to Arsenal on a short-term loan deal. Chris Brunt is expected to be sidelined for a couple of months with an ankle injury, while the injuries rack up for Spurs and Everton ahead of the final match of gameweek 20 next Wednesday:

Arsenal have confirmed this afternoon that Thierry Henry has re-joined the club on a short-term loan deal. With Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh heading off to the African Cup of Nations, Arsene Wenger is short in numbers up front and, with Wenger revealing Robin Van Persie will be rested for the FA Cup clash against Leeds, Henry is in line for action. Wenger admitted the forward is a couple of weeks away from full fitness and although Jack Wilshere is not expected to come back from an ankle injury before next month, Thomas Vermaelen is in line for a return after the Gunners trip to Swansea next gameweek.

Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling have both been ruled out out of Manchester United’s FA Cup clash with neighbours City this Sunday. Evans continues to struggle with a calf injury, while Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed Smalling is hopeful of a return to training on Monday, though is still suffering from “a really bad bout of tonsillitis”.

Everton have confirmed via their twitter feed this afternoon that Phil Jagielka could be sidelined for up to six weeks after scans revealed he suffered medial ligament damage in the midweek match at home to Bolton. David Moyes has plenty of other injury worries ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup clash with Tamworth. Jack Rodwell, Tim Cahill and Ross Barkley will not be risked, with Everton still to travel to Spurs on Wednesday in the final match of gameweek 20. Reports have also suggested that Tony Hibbert is struggling with a groin problem. Moyes confirmed Leon Osman requires surgery to remove floating bone in his knee, while Royston Drenthe, Marouane Fellaini and Seamus Coleman may be close to a comeback this weekend.

Adam Bogdan looks set to continue in goal this weekend for Bolton as Owen Coyle takes his side to Macclesfield Town. Jussi Jaaskelainen is still suffering from a thigh strain and will be giving a chance to recuperate before the Trotters’ next league game, away to Man United.

Wigan’s Albert Crusat has been given the all-clear after being subbed off with a back problem in Wigan’s 4-1 home thrashing by Sunderland. The Spaniard replaced Victor Moses in the Latics starting XI, with the latter benched for the first time this season, and Roberto Martinez admitted Crusat should feature more often in his first-team thoughts in the months ahead:

It was a real shame he had to come off against Sunderland, because he was having a massive impact on the game. But he will get plenty of opportunities to show what he can do during the second half of the season.

Alex McLeish has revealed Shay Given is making good progress from a hamstring strain. While the keeper won’t feature this weekend in the FA Cup, Big Eck has admitted there is a chance Given will recover in time for Villa’s next league game at home to Everton.

Harry Redknapp confirmed this morning that both Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson are available for selection as Spurs face Cheltenham in the FA Cup this weekend. The Tottenham boss received bad news on the injury front, though, with William Gallas and Sandro expected to be sidelined for a considerable amount of time, after scans revealed both players picked up calf tears in the recent 1-0 win over West Brom. Scott Parker is also unavailable after picking up a “bad bang” on the knee against Swansea, according to his manager.

Jamie O’Hara is making rapid progress from his recent double hernia operation. The midfielder has, of course, been absent since gameweek 15, but according to the Wolves official website, he has an “outside chance” of making a dramatic return against former club Spurs in gameweek 21, with Mick McCarthy certainly expecting him back within the next fortnight.

Roberto Di Matteo presided over Chelsea’s Friday press conference today and revealed both Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou will leave to join up with the Ivory Coast squad tomorrow. The club had hoped the pair would be available for their FA Cup clash with Portsmouth but, as expected, they will report for international duty ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations. Di Matteo also revealed Michael Essien is expected to return to training by the end of the month.

West Brom have confirmed Chris Brunt is to undergo surgery after fracturing his ankle against Everton on New Year’s Day. The Irishman is expected to be sidelined for eight to ten weeks as a result.

I'd prefer Drenthe not to play, I've got subs on the bench with 6 points and I think it's unlikely that the everton man will match that... I'd rather have the security of 6 points than have him play and get only 2.

With that logic it all seemed a bit stupid. If Everton players are not going to get points from playing spurs then its just a normal single match week really. And you dont normally triple on any team playing Bolton do you?

If it's a wc team I'd be tempted to downgrade Friedel and Rooney and put the extra money into midfield which looks rather weak.

But it looks like a decent enough team really, slightly different from the other generic ff-wc teams which is always nice to see.

Got stuck on last post; any feedback is welcome!

    Gents, can I get some feedback on this possible WC team;

    Krul – Ruddy
    Kompany – Jones – Caulker/Kelly – Evans/Brown – Simpson
    Dempsey – McClean – Nani – Silva – Bale
    RvP – Sturridge – Yakubu

It’s very midfield heavy, but the way I see it that gives me plenty of good captain choices. The idea is to play 3-4-3 every week with Jones/Kompany + 1 other, each week, and then rotate McClean/Sturridge/Yakubu depending on fixtures. Does it look decent for the long term? I have some doubts over Nani/Man U defence, their fixtures are getting worse…

Pretty similar to my wildcard team except I've upgraded Sturridge to Aguero downgrade Dempsey to Sess and downgraded Jones to a cheap defender.

I've gone with Evans too, seems a worthwhile risk considering how cheap he is.

Hmm... I a decent amount of cash invested in Jones, and Aguero is the only other forward I would consider until Ba gets back - but that would also leave me pretty invested in City and without chelsea cover. Decent option though! Cheers.

A little background info on the reasons behing Gylfi Sigurðsson's loan move to Swansea. He was top scorer last season for his German club TSG Hoffenheim, but came back injured from the U-21 championships and has struggled for both fitness and form this season, playing in only 6 out of 17 Bundesliga matches this season.

This was partly tactical, as he doesn't fit into new Hoffenheim coach Holger Stanislawski's midfield formation, but Sigurðsson is evidently also some way short of match fitness at the moment.

There's clearly been a falling out too between Sigurðsson and Stanislawski, and there are rumours that the Icelander's father had a blazing row with the coach. Sigurðsson arranged the loan deal himself through his agent and didn't bother to inform Stanislawski personally of the move. "If he doesn't want to play here, I don't need to try to change his mind. It's a waste of time", retorted Stanislawski. It's believed that Hoffenheim wouldn't stand in Sigurðsson's way if he wanted to leave permanently, although a transfer clause hasn't been written into the loan deal.

Should I play the w/c and get Rooney and Walters back in now, or leave VDV and Ade in for one more week for Wolves home...kind of makes sense to stick, and if prices move can raise funds by selling Stockdale for someone cheaper. Just worried Rooney will tear it up vs Bolton which will be highly annoying since I've had him form the start until the DGW. Thoughts?

Maybe keep BAE if I lose Friedel, but surely Brad is a better option than those 2 keepers and I can get Cahill for same price as BAE.

Considering it - not sure how consistently he'll bring in attacking points but we've got good fixtures. Looking at Ben Arfa as well if Pardew starts him while Ba's away.

How do you reckon we'll line up while Ba and Tiote are away?

Not a bad option for a couple of weeks before the wildcard ... QPR at home is pretty nice.

It'll be 2 from Ameobi/Ba/Ben Arfa up front (I would love Ameobi and Ben Arfa but knowing Pardew, could easily be Ameobi and Best)

In midfield, I think it's a good opportunity for Gosling but he likes Haris Vuckic too.

I would love Shola and Ben Arfa too, both as a fan and a fantasy player! After we demolished Jones and Rio, can see Shola and Best starting though. Not sure it'll work either coz neither of them are as mobile as Ba but we'll see.

Think he sees Vuckic as back up for Cabaye rather than Tiote so with Tiote out could be anyone. Wish Guthrie was fit coz he was class for a few games when Tiote was injured.

Yeah he was alright ... don't think he'll ever be a regular in the xi though.

Hope he doesn't go with perch as a DM option, would be such a negative move. Alan Smith and Ryan Taylor are other options.

Anyone but Perch!! Maybe slightly unfair but I'm blaming him for our dip in form a few weeks ago! Don't want Smith either, can't believe we're still paying him his huge wages, then again no one wants him!

Raylor wouldn't be too bad i suppose, hoping for Vuckic just don't see it happening.

Soo, Jagielka in for a 4pt hit went well. And Raylor would have played if I didnt bring him in. So thats 9 points down the drain.

Ah well, at least I didnt take Silva out for VDV..... oh wait

Still, it could have been worse, I could have taken Ba out for Sturridge ... oh wait.

    Repost
Need some sensible advice about this:

Planing a 4point hit for next GW, as it´s the only possible way to bring the players I want!

I´m on the verge of loosing 0.4 or 0.5 till next GW starts(with players like Brunt and Vermaelen injured and out of favour Rooney, Jones, Drenthe and Hibbert)!

Would you pull the trigger on the WC(still in time to make some profit) or stick to the plan and hope I don´t need the money I´m loosing?

update on the mystery manager story
guy in my mini league complained that someone had made a transfer for him without his knowledge, Brunt out and Pilkington in.
So after league vote we agreed to let him swap him back for a hit and we will add 4 points on at end.
For some reason he waited until just before deadline this week to do it.
he then puts Brunt 3rd sub, he gets long term injury and Pilkington scores 10 points.

Moral of the story is= leave your FF team logged on a public PC and some random 10 year old will show you how to manage a team

    ? ?

    Caulker - Kompany - ? - Jones - Santon

    Bale - Sess - Valencia - ? Silva

    Rvp - Aguero - ?

On my wildcard, I have those that are definitely in and 5 ? I have two options to fill the blanks, please pick your favourite.

    Option A - Sorenson - Lindegaard - Kelly - Dempsey - Graham Leaves 0.2 mil

    Option B - Krul - Schwarzer - Senderos - Moses - Sturridge - Leaves 0.3 mil

because i feel lindergaard's too much of a rotation risk.
anyway, you might want to consider having kelly instead of senderos i option B?
both are just as unlikely to score imo, so no point spending the extra 0.4million.
