Mark Hughes is confirmed as the new QPR manager. Thierry Henry caps his Arsenal comeback with the winner against Leeds. Scott Parker is struggling to make Spurs’ clash with Everton tomorrow, while Michael Essien turns out for Chelsea reserves as he continues his recovery from anterior cruciate ligament damage:

QPR have appointed Mark Hughes as their new manager this afternoon. The Welshman has signed up at Loftus Road on a two and a half year deal, following the dismissal of Neil Warnock earlier this week. He will take charge of first-team matters with immediate effect.

While all of the attention surrounded Thierry Henry after his dream return to the Emirates, Arsene Wenger gave Fantasy managers a boost by revealing post-match that Robin Van Persie will start at the weekend away to Swansea. The Dutchman was afforded a rest and has admitted he is fully refreshed and raring to go after a busy festive schedule. Wenger was quizzed on the possibility of playing both players from the start against Brendan Rodgers’ side and said :

I haven’t decided yet. Robin will be back against Swansea. Will Thierry start or not? I don’t know yet. He can play behind or in front of Robin or on the flank, Robin can play on the flank too, but I don’t know yet what I will do. They can play together, of course, and they did play together.

Wenger’s defensive options were further restricted in the win over Leeds. Arsenal had five defenders out injured prior to last night’s match but Francis Coquelin pulled up injured with a hamstring problem just after the half-hour mark and was replaced by Nico Yennaris. The Gunners boss confirmed post-match that the player will be sidelined for a few weeks with the injury, though he is hoping Johan Djourou will make a return for Sunday’s trip to the Liberty Stadium.

Harry Redknapp has revealed Scott Parker is “very doubtful” for Spurs home clash with Everton tomorrow. The midfielder picked up a knee knock at Swansea in gameweek 19 and hasn’t featured since for the London outfit. Sandro and William Gallas are both unavailable due to calf injuries, while Ledley King is “unfit”, though a hamstring scan has revealed the problem is not as bad as initially feared.

Simon Davies will step up his recovery from injury with a run-out for Fulham’s reserves later today. The midfielder returned to action in gameweek 15 against Swansea after a long-term knee problem but hasn’t played since after picking up a back injury in the game with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Despite David Stockdale’s recent stand-out displays between the Fulham posts, Martin Jol has confirmed Mark Schwarzer is his number one keeper. The Australian has missed the Cottagers last five league games due to a back problem and according to his manager, should be back in action within three or four weeks.

Michael Essien managed a run-out for Chelsea reserves yesterday as the midfielder begins to edge closer to a first-team return. Essien has yet to play this term, having picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury in pre-season training, but came through the game against West Brom without any problems, after a 75 minute appearance.

West Brom have snapped up Scott Allen from Dundee United for an undisclosed fee. The highly-rated young midfielder passed a medical for the Baggies on Friday and despite interest from both the Old Firm, decided on a move down south.

Joey Barton will be available for Queens Park Rangers’ gameweek 22 clash with Wigan. The midfielder is currently serving a three-match ban and was expected to miss the Latics game but the club’s Third Round FA Cup replay against MK Dons will now count as part of his suspension.

Roger Johnson is hopeful he will be available for Wolves’ trip to Tottenham this weekend. Mick McCarthy’s side roll up to the Lane on Saturday and their skipper is confident of overcoming the ankle injury that saw him subbed off in the FA Cup Third Round draw at former club Birmingham.

Everton’s injury worries show no sign of letting up ahead of their trip to Spurs. While Marouane Fellaini and Royston Drenthe are available, David Moyes is set to be without Jack Rodwell, Leon Osman, Tony Hibbert, Tim Cahill, Rodd Barkley and Seamus Coleman, in addition to Phil Jagielka, on Wednesday evening.

    Huth or ShawX?

I'd prefer Shotton but he's not a nailed on starter.

Thanks El Nino. I suppose it's Shotton if you're willing to gamble on him starting and Huth if you want more of a guarantee. I'll go with Huth for now then.

I know - that's why it's giving me a head-ache... I don't wanna put him in this week (i'm wild-carding) only to have to transfer him out a week or two after. That's why i may have to opt for Huth.

    Current WC mid:

    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, McClean

Should I dowgrade one of Dempsey/Valencia to someone like Sessegnon to free up funds to improve my defence? If so, which one to downgrade?

Good point. I don't mind swapping McLean though.

Current def is : Kompany, BAE, Evans, Santon, Senderos - however I'd like to upgrade BAE to Skrtel, but don't have the funds - hence my question about downgrading a mid...

I'm going to go for Sess and Mclean (Valencia, Silva, Bale) I have 4.6mil to spend on my last mid and he will be 3rd sub - Who else can you get for 4.6mil that has potential for returns? Derry? Reo-Coker?

I'm tempted by Reo-Coker as a bench-fodder type player, just because he always plays 90 minutes, but doesn't do much more, so I'll never regret benching him.

A tidbit from Man City training report:

A couple of typical Mario moments as first he did keepy ups with some chewing gum.Pretty good too till he volleyed it at Jose. Then he took the training schedule off Fausto and started handing out the bibs as players came out. Mario loves bibs.

Oh, also Silva didn't train today. Mancini says he is a "slight doubt."

How come's hardly nobody who has put there team up has either Morison, Holt, Graham etc? Norwich will leak goals yeah but they are also capable of scoring them.

It seems everyone is going for RVP, Aguero, Sturridge, Rooney that's already a lot of money on your front 3.

    REPOST

Which WC would you prefer, A or B?

    A
    Sorenson | Vorm
    Santon | Simpson | Clark | Senderos | Shotton
    Dempsey | Bale | Ramires | Silva | Moses
    Rvp | Aguero | Rooney

    B
    Sorenson | Vorm
    RICHARDS| Simpson | ENRIQUE | Senderos | JONES
    Dempsey | Bale | VALENCIA | Silva | Moses
    Rvp | Aguero | YAK

A has better fowards, nice midfield, Chelsea coverage but weaker defense….however there is still a good chance they do as well as the defense in option B over the next 7 weeks….a gamble though.

B much better balanced but no Chelsea coverage. Plan is to swap Yak -> Ba by swapping Enrique -> Shotton in a few weeks, so only Richards and Jones make the big diference. Jones is not exactly lighting things up at the moment and Richards has big prospects but might be subjected to rotation/injury.

    Any opinions welcome!

Whereas safe picks would be the likes of Bale, RVP, Enrique, Vorm.

I have a tendency to like a good punt (don't we all) but cautious of having too many on my WC.

      if you're chasing points, then >= 4. Else < 4.

if you're looking for ffs to do the job for you, then NIL.

IMO also punts could ONLY refer to you chosing players who are out-of-form in FPL. McClean/Shotton aren't punts.

Neither are guaranteed game time and could be dropped for other players. They are both punts.

Can someone here explain to me the Reo Coker love and his subsequent likely price rise? 😕

Just because he's cheap and one of the best points gatherers in his price range. He's still crap though. 🙂

He is cheap and he has grabbed a few assists this season, I think it is stupid too, a bit like Tiote getting that screamer last year against Arsenal, a load of people hopped on that bandwagon too. Better value in McClean and Moses for me.

What are your views on the following keepers with regards to rotation risk and kind fixtures:

    • Vorm - quite a tough run of home games coming up but his away games are looking quite favourable. It seems you can never write Swansea off for a cleansheet but will he be able to keep it up?
    • Krul - his fixtures actually look pretty favourable in the short and long term.
    • Sorensen - is his place in the lineup safe, or is Begovic likely to reclaim it?
    • Lindegaard - having made more appearances than De Gea lately, will he keep his place for a while now?

AND which is the best combination in your opinion?

My gut feeling is this could be something worse with Mancini keeping quiet about it. But we shall see.

Richards if you're sticking with Man City, or find a cheap defender with favourable fixtures and upgrade somewhere else. I'm using Kompany out as a route to bring in Rooney I think.

Wow, Osman, Jagielka and Cahill likely to be out for Spurs game, I have Osman but was considering a punt on Cahill, glad I went for Drente (despite the annoyance of him being sick for the Bolton game) and Baines. 5 of my boys should play tomorrow night then.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet but am very tempted by the following team:
    Sorensen Vorm
    Kelly Senderos Clark Shotton Santon
    Bale Silva Dempsey McClean HBA
    Rooney RVP Aguero

Defence cheap but good fixtures and rotate well.
    HBA and McClean rotate well.
The big 6 rake in the points
    What do you think?

It is tempting.....but all depends on Rooney getting back to scoring goals.

      Considering something similar:-

      Sorenson | Vorm
      Santon | Simpson | Clark | Senderos | Shotton
      Dempsey | Bale | Ramires | Silva | Moses
      Rvp | Aguero | Rooney

That front line just looks so good!
