Mark Hughes is confirmed as the new QPR manager. Thierry Henry caps his Arsenal comeback with the winner against Leeds. Scott Parker is struggling to make Spurs’ clash with Everton tomorrow, while Michael Essien turns out for Chelsea reserves as he continues his recovery from anterior cruciate ligament damage:

QPR have appointed Mark Hughes as their new manager this afternoon. The Welshman has signed up at Loftus Road on a two and a half year deal, following the dismissal of Neil Warnock earlier this week. He will take charge of first-team matters with immediate effect.

While all of the attention surrounded Thierry Henry after his dream return to the Emirates, Arsene Wenger gave Fantasy managers a boost by revealing post-match that Robin Van Persie will start at the weekend away to Swansea. The Dutchman was afforded a rest and has admitted he is fully refreshed and raring to go after a busy festive schedule. Wenger was quizzed on the possibility of playing both players from the start against Brendan Rodgers’ side and said :

I haven’t decided yet. Robin will be back against Swansea. Will Thierry start or not? I don’t know yet. He can play behind or in front of Robin or on the flank, Robin can play on the flank too, but I don’t know yet what I will do. They can play together, of course, and they did play together.

Wenger’s defensive options were further restricted in the win over Leeds. Arsenal had five defenders out injured prior to last night’s match but Francis Coquelin pulled up injured with a hamstring problem just after the half-hour mark and was replaced by Nico Yennaris. The Gunners boss confirmed post-match that the player will be sidelined for a few weeks with the injury, though he is hoping Johan Djourou will make a return for Sunday’s trip to the Liberty Stadium.

Harry Redknapp has revealed Scott Parker is “very doubtful” for Spurs home clash with Everton tomorrow. The midfielder picked up a knee knock at Swansea in gameweek 19 and hasn’t featured since for the London outfit. Sandro and William Gallas are both unavailable due to calf injuries, while Ledley King is “unfit”, though a hamstring scan has revealed the problem is not as bad as initially feared.

Simon Davies will step up his recovery from injury with a run-out for Fulham’s reserves later today. The midfielder returned to action in gameweek 15 against Swansea after a long-term knee problem but hasn’t played since after picking up a back injury in the game with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Despite David Stockdale’s recent stand-out displays between the Fulham posts, Martin Jol has confirmed Mark Schwarzer is his number one keeper. The Australian has missed the Cottagers last five league games due to a back problem and according to his manager, should be back in action within three or four weeks.

Michael Essien managed a run-out for Chelsea reserves yesterday as the midfielder begins to edge closer to a first-team return. Essien has yet to play this term, having picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury in pre-season training, but came through the game against West Brom without any problems, after a 75 minute appearance.

West Brom have snapped up Scott Allen from Dundee United for an undisclosed fee. The highly-rated young midfielder passed a medical for the Baggies on Friday and despite interest from both the Old Firm, decided on a move down south.

Joey Barton will be available for Queens Park Rangers’ gameweek 22 clash with Wigan. The midfielder is currently serving a three-match ban and was expected to miss the Latics game but the club’s Third Round FA Cup replay against MK Dons will now count as part of his suspension.

Roger Johnson is hopeful he will be available for Wolves’ trip to Tottenham this weekend. Mick McCarthy’s side roll up to the Lane on Saturday and their skipper is confident of overcoming the ankle injury that saw him subbed off in the FA Cup Third Round draw at former club Birmingham.

Everton’s injury worries show no sign of letting up ahead of their trip to Spurs. While Marouane Fellaini and Royston Drenthe are available, David Moyes is set to be without Jack Rodwell, Leon Osman, Tony Hibbert, Tim Cahill, Rodd Barkley and Seamus Coleman, in addition to Phil Jagielka, on Wednesday evening.

Short term take Komopany out for BAE (good for GWs 21and 23) then Valencia into midfield
By the time Kompany is back you'll be playing your WC - I guess......

I think AVB has now fallen out with Alex, Anelka, Lampard, possibly Sturridge, possibly Malouda, possibly Mikel and possibly more.

Inexperience in handling big name players showing through perhaps?

I agree on your points regarding their quality (or lack of), but my point was really that AVB doesn't seem to be able to not select a player without annoying him! (Excluding Torres who just seems to have meekly accepted that he's pants and doesn't deserve to be picked at the moment).

This could be down to his inexperience, but could also be down to the fact that alot of Chelsea's players seems to be idiots and won't accept being dropped in a mature manner.

Personally I like AVB and think the team he seems to be regularly picking at the moment is his best one for sure.

He's still one of the top defenders cos he's so dangerous from SP's
And chelsea will start keeping CS's - its only a matter of time.
They have conceded 1 goal in 12 games, a slight improvement when they sign cahill would turn this into an extra 6 or 8 cleanies I reckon. That makes Terry a good bet.

    Hello all
I pulled the trigger on the WC this week and came up with
    Vorm Krul
    Shotton Walker Enrique Hangeland Williamson
    Dempsey Bale Sessegnon Silva Valencia
    Yakubu Agbonlahor Van Persie

I had Kompany but just took him out for Hangeland. I will swap Walker to Kompany when his ban is served.
I’m also thinking to maybe bring in Rooney for this week V Bolton and then back to RVP.

Anyway, Please pick holes in this for me and tell me what I’m not seeing, I’m pretty sure most or all of you have more points than my paltry 1000!!

In FPL - if you're not in form like he has not for the last 15 gameweeks - he's not in my team...

Not a case of how good he is... plus he's not been good on pens he has already missed 2 or 3 pens this season already.

Also, Fergie is reducing his likelihood of scoring more goals by playing him in midfield or playing behind the front 2...

VP Vs Rooney - I think we all know the answer to that one

He's scoed in 4 of the last 5 premiership games that he's started. Was rested for one and played 23 minutes, then dropped cos he missed a curfew, failed to score against Toon and banged in 2 against the league leaders at the weekend.

Ok it's not blinding form but it ain't bad either.

I think he'll play up front more often than not. Anderson is back, their defenders are slowly coming back into contention which should mean carrick will not play back there. Cleverley is nearing fitness and most importantly Rooney has scored a few recently.

Still got Ba. Best replacement for him for the next 3 games only, until when I play WC in GW24. I can spend 7.8M.

    1 - Bellamy
    2 - Sturridge (fitness?)
    3 - Odemwingie
    4 - Yakubu
    5 - Zamora

2 and 4 are the safe picks. Tempted by a gamble on 1.

As a Reading fan have seen The Sig play and score multiple times before he went to Germany. He worked with Brendan Rogers at Reading. Rogers used him straight down the middle and all play rotated around him. He is likely to get a lot of assists IF he gets played. One to keep an eye on although I was disappointed he wasnt a little cheaper.

Richards specializes at RB, moving him to CB will lose his attacking flank threat. Zabaleta is a great defender but doesn't do that.

Aye I see that, well it's a straight choice between robustness and threat and Mancini seems to have favoured the latter this season. Signing and playing Clichy IMO is a perfect example, as a Gooner I never saw him as a reliable defender but just a wing threat.

Also considering Rooney to Aguero - but like the Man U fixture this weekend.

There are obviously periods when Nani is not the best player to have and this season it's been more than half the season. Results cannot be ignored. Nani is unpredictable and occasionally scores big but you can go blue holding your breath for him. Valencia looks better now, wait for Nani to fire.

Yeah same as me then. The injuries are starting to mount up, I think if anymore injuries come out of the Spurs/Eve or Pool/City game then it may be time to WC early. Luckily there's so little movement in the market this week that you may not have missed out on much.

Out of the following 2 which would you go for? Can see pros and cons to both.
    A) Odemwingie + Gerrard
    B) Rooney + HBA

tough... I would go with B. Only because Rooney has the better fixture. I've been looking at Gerrard in my WC team, but until he bangs in a few more goals I wouldnt be bringing him in

B seems a little safer. Maybe A once Stevie is back getting 90', but that' a couple weeks away, i'd say.

I don't see any pros for Odem as he's missing too many chances. Gerrard is a brilliant differential and can score/assist any team in the league but may not play full matches.

Rooney is showing signs of hitting form and if you believe he'll start mostly up front (I do) could be a goldmine. Depends if you think Ben-Arfa will start games or not (I think he will).

All things considered I say B.

Any united people have an idea if Evans should start at the weekend? and will Valencia be on the wing? Thanks.

Valencia on the wing, since Smalling is back. Not too sure about Evans, depends on whether Rio is played or not. P.Jones had a shocker so maybe he's due a rest?

Evans should start as Jones needs a rest while Smalling/Rafael will play RB pushing Valencia to RM

cant get rooney in but considering going with Nani and Valencia, worth it? (The alternative is Dempsey)

Does that make Valencia the obvious replacement for Osman? I can just afford him, and I can wildcard him out again in a week or two.

In your case I'd do Rooney to Yak and spend money on turning Fergie into someone decent + upgrade your defense a bit

Ferguson is a definite season keeper. Even over Christmas, I never once had his zero points come on for me. And having him makes the decision of who to bench much easier.

agreed! I hate having to pick from 5 midfielders especially when everyone's so unpredictable. he did get 1pt 6 games ago. was gutted he didnt come off my bench for it!

ok I've checked, Milner scored the pen after 75 mins, Aguero went off after 71 so he;s 3rd choice, Mario is first, Aguero second.
