As a two-week break for the Paddy Power Cup V approaches an end, it’s time to refresh your memory as to where we are with the competition. In Gameweek 19 we had eight fixtures involving 16 fantasy managers, each fighting for a place in the Gameweek 21 Quarter-Finals. Here is how they played out…

1Raasclart4838Mr Bungle
2menders4454CSKA AWFUL
3Natt2651Declan
4Der-Hammer953638Sc8tt26
5soulman274627runty
6ChickenDevil4544Timmy Loving
7VereWinner3441sleepingmaster
8Bruce Baer3145Funkyav

Upset-of-the-round was Der-Hammer95‘s demise at the hands of Sc8tt26. A slender two-point margin put the round’s highest-ranked fantasy manager to the sword.

Closer still was ChickenDevil‘s single point victory over Timmy Loving. In winning 45 – 44, ChickenDevil strung together his 14th green arrow in a row. Given he’s currently nursing only his fourth red arrow of the season in Gameweek 20, he may be quite relieved to still be sitting on a Quarter-Final spot.

Fixture three saw the biggest thumping of the round, as Declan put 25 points on his opponent Natt, who’s score of 26 was the lowest of the bunch.

Declan’s 51 was runner-up in the pursuit of a top-score, as CSKA AWFUL achieved that feat in triumphing 54 – 44 over menders.

Completing the Quarter-Final line-up is Raasclart (who saw off Mr Bungle 48 – 38), soulman27 (going through on the back of a 46 – 27 drubbing of runty), sleepingmaster (in the hat thanks to a 41 – 34 win against VereWinner) and Funkyav (after bettering Bruce Baer 45 – 31).

The eight remaining participants will learn off their Quarter-Final nemeses shortly. For now, commiserations to the eight leaving the competition at this stage.

I'll throw my WC in again for thoughts!

    Lindegaard
    Skrtel Santon Williamson
    Bale Dempsey HBA Silva/Nani
    RVP Yak Rooney/Aguero

    Hart McClean Senderos Kelly

Rooney&Silva will switch to Nani&Aguero if Silva is confirmed out. What do we reckon? Again lol 😀

Lose Lindegaard he's not first choice, not liking the double Newc defence, especially with Tiote out, swap Lind for Sorensen/Gordon and one of Newc boys for McAuley or Turner

Lindegaard is only in for GW21 and 23, Hart would come on away to Wigan and Everton if he didn't play.

Newcastle defence rotates so well with Fulham with Skrtel in for the next 3! Isn't McAuley a doubt and Turner still out?

Other than that pretty generic and good. Not prefer Caulker to doubling Fulham?

you got to see how they play tonight against me Liverpool... If Aguero does not look good on his own (without Silva playing) - I would say we have to rethink about Man City because I don't know how things will pan out for them without backbone of Kompany, Yaya, Silva...

It could be that Man U could go on the run with players coming back from injuries - and having a combo of Nani and Rooney might not be a bad idea - something which I am mulling intensely over!

Should move nicely up the league tables with Walker, Bale(c), Ade and Drenthe to come.
Apologies to those who need Drenthe to stay on the bench because of high scoring subs, but I need him to play as I have zero points on the bench! 🙂

Correct me if Im wrong but without Silva and Yaya is this how the city front 6 will line up..

    Barry De Jong
    Johnson Nasri Milner
    Aguero

2 of Johnson, Milner and Aguero would do fine..

So im playing my Wildcard and im around 100 points off my mini leagues summits.

If im gonna make up that sort of deficit, i need to take some gambles. Ive not had Silva since the glory days of GW1 (dont ask) do i bite the bullet and get him in now or continue to go without?

Im probably taking some gambles in defence so do we reckon i leave it up to them to make up the points and go with the relatively sensible set of midfielders and strikers im currently looking at?

Interesting, so u think defence is where u should be putting the money then?

Im just having second thoughts on the City defence again now, I know Kompany only misses 2 PL games but with Yaya out as well im just not entirely convinced.

Very hard to know, im chasing a lead well in excess of 100 and i dont rate my chances much. However, i do believe that the best way to try and catch it is via captaincy options and sensible differentials with the Jan wildcard.

For example, i wouldnt normally entertain it but im seriously looking at Aguero, Rooney and RVP as a frontline. Obviously ill have to make some sacrifices in midfield, but i feel there are definite options available to enable it, and those options would also be differentials (sensible ones)

Yeah captaincy is an obvious way to make up big points. I see that forward line is quite popular again, i had it for a spell early season but it didnt really work out, partly because of Wayne's relentless 2 pointers, I flirted with the idea of having Rooney again yesterday, but although i think he'll do well against Bolton, hes far to patchy scoring wise and id rather lose him and have a cheaper whos capable of decent points and spread the wealth.

    Current wildcard team reads:
    Krul Vorm
    Enrique Cahill Senderos Simpson Shotton
    Nani Bale Dempsey Silva Sessegnon
    Van Persie Sturridge Yakubu

Keep toying with the idea of replacing Nani with Valencia, if i did do that i'd have 3 million in the bank but don't know where to spend it..what to do?

Would love some advice on whether or not I should wildcard this week. I hear Silva is a doubt and I have Tiote, Sturridge and Evans. I have already made my free transfer (Wilkinson>Kelly) but I have three Spurs players who I'd love to keep for the Wolves games but will likely keep just Bale in my Wildcard. I also have Baines and Howard both of whom I will lose in the wildcard but don't mind keeping for the Villa game. Thoughts?

Studge should be ok (dont think it was a serious injury and with Drogs & Kalou off to ACON plus no Anelka they NEED him). Evans could also return. Think you would be unlucky if all those players listed dont make it.

Could take a 4 pointer to replace Tiote or Silva? (I'll be losing Silva for a hit if it becomes clear he's out for a matter of weeks)

Would hold off on your WC anyway for another week

i`ve got three spurs VDV,ADE, Bale (+ Baines for that matter) and ill keep them for Wolves game for sure! So my advice would be keep your wild card! but i dont have Silva and `possible` injured 10M player on the bench... maybe just -4 hit for Nani for Bolton game only if Silva is injured, and then bring him back in your WC week.

    repost

ok from gw onwards (after wc)

    Nani and Sess

    Valencia and Dempsey

    Valencia and Sess + cash

    rest of team

    Sorensen, Schwarzer

    Richards, Santon, Senderos, Evans, McAuley

    Bale, Silva, McLean

    RvP, Aguero, Yak

Silva can be switched to Nani or Gerrard or VdV if confirmed out. or I could go cheaper and upgrade a defender to Verm

This Silva injury could be mana from heaven for me. In two minds whether to stick with Ade and VDV after tonight, or change back to original players of Rooney and Walters. Looks like Silva out for Walters and get Rooney back in for Ade will be possible as this injury is reported as a two week job, leaving me covered for the expected tonking of Bolton and Bale and VDV ready for Wolves. Some times things just work themselves out! 🙂

Like you I'm stuck with RVP, Studge, Kompany, Bale, Simpson, Naylor, Vorm etc had em since the start more or less except got Studge at 6.6m, just makes it so difficult to change the the team. For DGW I only had four transferrable players that were the same price - Walters, Silva, Rooney and Shawcross!

Anyway I think Moyes will be forced to play him from the start tonight and I'm looking forward to seeing what he's got and him actually giving me a run for my money for once.

Really hope he scores or assists and gets a few boners. He's a great differential for some of us. Plus a Spurs cleanie is neither here nor there as every semi-serious player has BAE or Walker
