Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s left-foot ensured that the double gameweek had the impact we’d anticipated, but there can be no doubt the he was an unexpected source of satisfaction.

A 30-yard screamer, deflecting off Tim Cahill’s posterior, marked the closest Everton’s Aussie has got to getting his name on the scoresheet this season. Assou-Ekotto has gone one better than the Socceroo, rightly claiming a stunning strike, although his application for goal of the season will surely be turned down thanks to Cahill’s intervention.

With 10% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League game, after over 40,000 transfers in for Gameweek 20, Assou-Ekotto has clearly provided a major boost to a fair slice of Fantasy managers. Those who missed out on tonight’s goal, assist and clean sheet bonanza can at least take some comfort from the fact that such returns were far from signposted. The Cameroon international had scored just one league goal in his previous five seasons – he had mustered just a single shot on target this term before this evening.

It was surely Assou-Ekotto’s price tag, rather than his proven attacking prowess, behind his selection for Tottenham’s double Gameweek. His investors could hardly have expected a profit of 21 point (24 with the inevitable bonus) for their punt.

All the expectation was instead laid at the door of Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor. While the two of that trio managed to scratch together an assist of Tottenham’s two matches, Adebayor was a major let down; just two goal attempts, both off target, saw the Togo striker do little to justify the FPL armband.

For many, the first double gameweek passed as a non-event – a reminder that the hype and over investment so often involved, can slap us in the face. And yet, ironically, the unlikely profit from Assou-Ekotto demonstrates just how that extra transfer, perhaps even a 4-point hit, can pay off spectacularly when the doubles come around.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Right, not a bitter Drenthe owner, honestly, but I must air Moyes has lost the plot now.

I used to rate the guy and what he does on a tight budget, but his refusal to play his best attacking player is a huge mistake. He is very lucky though that Everton are so bad off at the mo, they can't afford to fire him!

On the assumption that Drenthe is actually match fit then you have a point, but Moyes isn't an idiot. He took a squad to the Champions League when the starting XI was (Martyn, Hibbert, Stubbs, Weir, Pistone, Osman, Gravesen, Carsley, Cahill, Kilbane, M Bent).

What signings would you make, and what team would you play, with a transfer budget of £A packet of crisps and a Mars bar, a wage cap of £The change in Kenwright's back pocket/month, and an injury list of Rodwell, Cahill, Barkley, Hibbert, Jagielka, Coleman, Vellios and now maybe Distin?

I agree that Moyes' tactics are frustratingly negative at times, but there's a reason he has kept his job at Everton for ten years, and there's a reason he's one of the most respected managers in the Premier League, especially among his peers, who aren't fools either.

I think he has lost it a bit too...if he had any sense he would sell Baines and use the money to strenghten the rest of the squad...the money could make the whole team better ala what sunderland did with the henderson money.....Moyes is adamant he is not for sale but it'd like they would spend10-15 mil on him so why keep him for thatmoney so when you have no proper striker at the club

Imagine a hypothetical future where we had a 20 team British Super League with no relegation and a draft system, which teams would YOU like to see in the league from the point of view of a football fan?

    I'm going:

    Man Utd/Man City
    Arsenal/Tottenham
    Chelsea/West Ham
    Liverpool/Everton
    Newcastle/Sunderland
    Celtic/Rangers
    Swansea/Cardiff
    Nottingham Forest/Leeds
    Norwich/Blackpool
    Brighton/Plymouth Argyle

Loads of derbies, good away days out, teams with history and all parts of the country represented.

But they have been part of the English football league for what, a hundred years? Crowbarring Rangers and Celtic into the Premier League (or even the Championship) is grossly unfair to the rest of the clubs.

I hate this argument that they should have a divine right to join the Premiership as they are too good for Scottish football, feck 'em, plenty of European leagues are weak past two or three big sides and they dont try and sneak into another countries league.

It'll never happen anyway, and if it does its pure financial greed that will make it happen. It wont be for the good of the game.

yes but not likely to score high enough to be captain material. I will have him in my wc team due to his price and consistency over Nani, but Nani and Rooney are the only MUFC players worth captaining.

Nani burnt me bad against Blackburn so don't trust him..

Nothing seems to be working out for me anyway at the moment so think i'll give it to Odem for the craic... (and then deeply regret it after)

RVP - tight game vs Swans

        Bale - Sensible choice

Ade - 8 points as (c) from a dgwk is not satisfactory so don't trust him now either!

See above, very tempted to give him the armband too. Only concerns are he's hardly on fire and Brunt's absence may cut off supply.

It's always nice to see an active player nab top spot for the week. His treble Spurs defence and BAE(c) was inspired

Anyone watching the darts? A friend told me he once saw a 9 dart finish as follows:

    20×3 / 20×3 / 20×3 180

19×3 / 19×3 / 19×3 351

Bull / Bull / Bull

    Do you believe my friend?

Dont believe it , not in a competitive match anyway.
Needing 150 why would you go for 50 with first dart?
And if you did leaving 100 then 60 double top would be much easier.

      Not at all.

Was listening to Eric Bristow on the radio a couple of days ago though, and he was going on about how the perfect nine-darter is 3 sets of T20 T19 Bull.
