Those of a certain age will remember those thunderous howitzers John Arne Riise used to unleash on unsuspecting opponents during his time with Liverpool. After a three-year stint in Serie A with Roma, the Norwegian has returned to the Premier League and is now a permanent fixture in the Fulham back-four.

He may have lost some of his thunder but Riise is still very much a solid prospect for Fantasy managers; having missed just two matches this season, his starts are assured. As one of Fulham’s free-kick takers he has also notched up four attempts on goal in the last four gameweeks, showing that the 31-year-old still offers plenty attacking threat.

The real factor in his allure, though, is in Fulham’s upcoming schedule. Putting it bluntly, it is delicious. In the next six game weeks Martin Jol’s side travel to Blackburn and QPR and play host to (NEW, WBA, STK). A trip to the Etihad to face Man City in gameweek 24 sticks out as the only bad egg in this fine platter of fixtures. Clearly, the potential is there for Riise to add to his six clean sheets and single assist, with the Norwegian also edging closer to notching his first Premier League goal of the season.

Investment in the Cottagers defence seems a smart move for the next two months and, as the joint top scoring Fulham defender (along with Brede Hangeland) on 58 points, Riise is sure to catch the eye. He’s also something of a bargain these days compared to the start of the season. Beginning the game at 6.0, he has dipped to 5.7, making him 0.3 cheaper than Hangeland.

Granted, he’s still more expensive than others in Jol’s back-four, most notably Philippe Senderos at 4.3 and Stephen Kelly at 3.9 but, given they have scored just 36pts and 23pts respectively, it appears you get what you pay for when it comes to Fulham’s back-line. Both Kelly and Senderos will earn new owners in January but Riise arguably has greater security and certainly offers stronger attacking potential.

Couldn't think of a better defender to get, most of the top 4 teams don't have that good fixtures (and don't get many more CS than some of the lower, in-form teams). If I get Walters (good rotation for home games) in for Valencia, I could get a 7mil-ish defender.
        Who would you suggest? 🙂

      Right my team:
      Hart, Bogdan
      Senderos, cahill, shawcross, Smalling, shotton
      Mata, Dempsey, Murphy, Walters, Ferguson
      Rooney, Van Persie, Sturridge

My starting 11 for gameweek 21:
      Hart
      Senderos, cahill, Smalling
      Mata, Dempsey, Murphy, Walters
      Rooney, Van Persie, Sturridge

Rooney is Cap, 3 fulham players cuz they have nice games coming up, 3 chelsea players if cahill signs and surely sturridge and mata will do damage. Any ideas/suggestions to improve guys? Being honest mata, i think ur team is gud, cahill will sign dont worry. upfront ur fine, although maybe richards at da back could be weak n even tho i hav joe hart i dont see city keeping clean sheets without kompany tbh.

Can anyone explain why Ramsey has been such an FPL flop thus far despite position and presumably stats?

      Just bad luck?

I watched a fair few matches as a fan and I think he fed the wingers instead of going for goals and assists down the centre.

Which Newcastle defender should I use? I got Raylor in early, so he's worth 4.8 for me. Simpson is at 4.4 and Santon at 4.2. What's the deal with Raylor, I thought he may be OOP at midfield now, but most teams I see have Simpson instead? Is Raylor worth the extra .4?

What I'd do with the African cup in mind is these transfers if they are possible:

      Sturridge down to Bellamy
      Drenthe to Ben Arfa
      Nani to Valencia
      Aguero to Ade
      Bale to Lampard

You keep all your big teams covered plus capitalise on the form and extra time on pitch of fringe players such as Bellamy and Ben Arfa. Other than those suggestions this does look like a great team!

        Raylor Simpson, Lescott (Senderos, Kelly)

        Bale, Dempsey, Sess, ??? (Moses)

        Yak, RvP, Aguero

Upgade one of your Newcastle defenders, maybe get some chelsea coverage, if you save enough cash you could even do Yak out Sturridge in.

Nani is a good pick tho for your final mid spot

Spot on plus stay clear of them this weekend, they are severely depleted with injuries, African nations and suspension. Central midfield will probably be Derry and Buzsaky ffs!

Wouldn't. Barton,Taarabt & Faulin out means a very weak midfield.

Right. What's your luckiest transfer this season?

I'll start the ball rolling: Raylor > Hibbert back in December. Hibbert got a CS, assist, and 3 BPs. Raylor got injured.

Dunno, I read ankle injury, then broken foot, now broken leg. He'll probably be dead by the end of the day.

        +1

But since they had such a bad shot at expected line-up they could´ve thrown Hibbert in there... just for confort.
