Those of a certain age will remember those thunderous howitzers John Arne Riise used to unleash on unsuspecting opponents during his time with Liverpool. After a three-year stint in Serie A with Roma, the Norwegian has returned to the Premier League and is now a permanent fixture in the Fulham back-four.

He may have lost some of his thunder but Riise is still very much a solid prospect for Fantasy managers; having missed just two matches this season, his starts are assured. As one of Fulham’s free-kick takers he has also notched up four attempts on goal in the last four gameweeks, showing that the 31-year-old still offers plenty attacking threat.

The real factor in his allure, though, is in Fulham’s upcoming schedule. Putting it bluntly, it is delicious. In the next six game weeks Martin Jol’s side travel to Blackburn and QPR and play host to (NEW, WBA, STK). A trip to the Etihad to face Man City in gameweek 24 sticks out as the only bad egg in this fine platter of fixtures. Clearly, the potential is there for Riise to add to his six clean sheets and single assist, with the Norwegian also edging closer to notching his first Premier League goal of the season.

Investment in the Cottagers defence seems a smart move for the next two months and, as the joint top scoring Fulham defender (along with Brede Hangeland) on 58 points, Riise is sure to catch the eye. He’s also something of a bargain these days compared to the start of the season. Beginning the game at 6.0, he has dipped to 5.7, making him 0.3 cheaper than Hangeland.

Granted, he’s still more expensive than others in Jol’s back-four, most notably Philippe Senderos at 4.3 and Stephen Kelly at 3.9 but, given they have scored just 36pts and 23pts respectively, it appears you get what you pay for when it comes to Fulham’s back-line. Both Kelly and Senderos will earn new owners in January but Riise arguably has greater security and certainly offers stronger attacking potential.

Views on my potential wildcard appreciated, try to bear in mind that I'm trying to win from behind so am trying to chance my arm with the odd (potentially) explosive differential

    Krul/Mignolet

Cahill, Huth, Enrique, A Ferdinand, Riise

McClean, Dempsey, Walters, Van Der Vaart, Bale

    Aguero, Adebayor, Bellamy

It's not the side I'd pick were I in front in my mini league but I'm not, so what do you lot reckon?

      A. Ferdinand no, id wait and see if cahill will be 1st choice, Huth ok, but id go with shotton. riise not worth it imo, senderos better value

Rest of the team is good but sort out the defense

Get Caulker in, you should have some swansea cover

Swansea have hard games coming up tho. Right my team:
        Hart, Bogdan
        Senderos, cahill, shawcross, Smalling, shotton
        Mata, Dempsey, Murphy, Walters, Ferguson
        Rooney, Van Persie, Sturridge

My starting 11 for gameweek 21:
        Hart
        Senderos, cahill, Smalling
        Mata, Dempsey, Murphy, Walters
        Rooney, Van Persie, Sturridge

Rooney is Cap, 3 fulham players cuz they have nice games coming up, 3 chelsea players if cahill signs and surely sturridge and mata will do damage. Any ideas/suggestions to improve guys?

but swansea could keep a clean sheet at any time so it would be wise to have some coverage in your team

Bit much on Fulham tbf, good fixtures and form but i still wouldnt have faith to put 1/3 of my team with them, take out murphy

So u think i should take out murphy n replace him with say like moses or sessengon but like both wigan n sunderland have tough games tis week. surely fulham will scored vs blackburn so like i thinks its a risk worth taking.

Swapping Riise for the cheaper Sendeross and leaving funds in the bank to replace one of the more expensive defenders with Kompany upon his return to the City fold in gameweek 23 sounds like a plan does it not?

I was loathe not to cover the Swansea backline but with fixtures of Wigan, Villa, Wolves and Blackburn between gameweeks 22 and 26, the QPR man got the nod. I opted for the added security and attacking potential of Riise over Senderos but again, I agree there's not much in it.

    The million dollar question...

Bought Kompany for 6.3. My defence will be ok until he returns, but MCI coverage is always a plus.

Is Richards nailed-on enough long-term (i.e. rest of the season ideally) to bring him in now? Or do I just hold tight and wait for Kompany’s return? Thanks.

I'd wait and see if Richards gets sent off tonight, nothing's impossible in this game. The only worry with Kompany now is if he happens to pick up another red card it would be 5 games I think. I'm holding on but if I was on a WC I might be tempted to switch.

I had Silva from the beginning he is coming up at 9.9 for me no way I can risk losing him. S I will start him and have McClean ready to come on if injured.

Don't have any money to get in Senderos I'm afraid. I was considering dropping Rooney for Yak and upgrading Walters to Dempsey and McClean to Milner/Ramires. That way I can get Cahill in for Lescott and get in a better keeper for Bunn.

When you have Aguero, RVP, Bale and Silva, I don't know if Rooney is necessary. I've spent the money having a pair of keepers who rotate well because a lot of Vorm's upcoming fixtures are horrible. Fixtures are also a concern for Caulker but he could be worthwhile considering his price. I would personally be wary doubling up on Swansea defence because they've been poor away and they have a lot of the big guns in their home games. De Laet is not worth having either, it's worth spending some money in defence, maybe have 3, even 4 cheapies, but a Kompany or a Vermaelen (when fit), a Jones (when back on form) are worth the money you pay. I like the midfield and Kelly, Smalling.... Undecided about Lescott, see how the City defence holds up tonight without Kolo, Kompany and Yaya but if they look leaky, Lescott would be a big risk for his price.

Hope that gives you something to chew over 😉

    Riise or Hangeland?

After all, Hangeland did score 6 goals last season. Haven't watched Fulham play so hard to form an opinion in favor of either.

        Free kicks, really? Sounds good.

Do you know why Baird played against Bolton & ManU instead of Kelly couple of gameweeks ago?

I'm tempted more by Hangeland. Due a goal and when Fulham keep a cleanie he is always in line for bonus it seems

    VORM - Mignolet

    SIMPSON - ENRIQUE - Wilkinson - Shotton - Senderos

BALE - WALTERS - Silva (inj?) - Dempsey - McClean

    RVP - Aguero - Yakubu

Still have 2.8m, so will probably upgrade in places.

Unsure of what 3 to go with from Vorm/Mignolet/Krul, will Migolet start?
Also unsure whether to go with Yak/Ade/Strurridge
My lack of Chelsea cover and to a lesser extent Man U cover is a worry - Evans as a cut price option? Mata for Dempsey?

Come on the Eagles, Wembley here we come!? In celebration of a pending cup final (fingers crossed!), please help fix my wild card team. Any comments gratefully received!

    Vorm/Ruddy

    Simpson Enrique Shotton McCauley Senderos

    Nani Bale Silva Pilkington Sess

    RVP Aguero Sturidge

    Thinking of maybe:

    Ruddy to Paddy Kenny,
    McCauley to Shorey,
    Jumping on the Yakmobile,
    Nani v Valencia?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Would Nani and Valencia be overkill if Silva is out for awhile?
    Front eight right now is
    Silva Bale Valencia Mata Dempsey
    Ade Yak (Helguson)

Could switch Nani for Silva, or do a cheap midfielder for the bench and then go
Bale Valencia Mata Dempsey (cheap mid, maybe even De Jong)
    Ade Yak Aguero

    Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
