The first Scoutcast of 2012 is here. There’s no dressing this up, the Episode title tells you exactly what to expect. With consecutive gameweek scores hovering around the two millionth rank mark and “ghost ship” squads passing me by, who can really blame me?

A string of unfortunate transfers and an errant injury to an Arsenal centre-back threatens to bring my season falling around my ears. Mark spends much of the podcast attempting to reassure me – convinced I’m at the point of no return, whilst simultaneously adding a few sly digs on the 71 points that’s opened up between us. I wouldn’t have expected anything less.

The season and the show must go on. In between gripes, we eventually throw in the usual array of regulars and, by the end, there’s even a sense of hope. Happy New Year? It couldn’t get any worse.

Feel my pain here.

Any reason the Yak didn't rise last night? He looked due to rise per total fpl. Is it true a player can only rise 0.3 within a GW?

Is the much chance of BAE rising tonight - hes 69% on total fpl currently?

Well this year something is changed with the price changes. They are more volatile. Due to that fact they might've changed the rule and player is not allowed to rise 4 times in one GW. Dzeko was the first that case, I know I was waiting for that 01m extra

Can't rise more than 0.3 in a GW this year. They brought it in I think to cancel out the other change they made - each subsequent rise in a GW requires the same amount of transfers now, it used to double and triple.

They've stopped RVP, Bale, Dzeko and maybe one or two more from rising.

Well they need still double transfers to rise for the second time. That isn't changed IMO

No, Isacki is right, they don't need double, then triple etc to rise further in the same GW. Each rise now only needs the same number of transfers in.

Is there a limit to how much a player can rise in price in a GW?

I had been kinda banking on Yakubu going up again this GW but he stayed put last night - has me 'maxed out' or whatever we should call it?

1K is special I guess. I suppose hurting isn't so much about where you are but where you are relative to your expectations - so it must hurt.

Mark does do pretty well so it was credit to come in and talk for 40 mins about FPL - although a fair amount was spent talking about what went wrong :S

yeah but he's be fair Isacki, as someone who got similar scores as Granville these past two weeks - it is SO depressing, especially as I personally don't think it was deserved. I'm never ever happy with FPL, for every good move I make over I generally make a corresponding bad one - it's sucks all the enjoyment out of making good decisions.

Fair enough I'm sure it must hurt. I've had my only good run come to an end this week with a small red arrow and I spent a while before the Spurs bonuses came out wondering if BAE's 3 would avoid the red arrow. Still, I mean a bit of perspective is always useful.

Team for weekend. Not sure on sub order or on midfield starting.

    Krul
    Jones, Ekotto, Shawx
    Nani (c), Bale, Sess, Drenthe
    RVP, Adebayor, Sturridge

    Vorm, Shotton, Walters, Jagielka

Thinking Walters is just so poor away from home, the Drenthe gamble may be worthwhile?

Just as I predicted a week ago (I was absolutely spot on), Drenthe would come on for a one point cameo when 2-0 down at Spurs to stop me getting a clean sheet of the bench. 😡

Think it does seem there have been fitness concerns for Drenthe.

Think if he doesn't start this weekend though, then it must be 100% Moyes.

I intended to get rid of Shawx the week after Shotton came in, but then the fixtures were pretty good.

In as much as both played getting 12 to save GW18 from being total embarassment, then had home to Wigan which was in theory an okay to stay doubled on.

Next week home to West Brom isn't a bad fixture either (meaning other problems can be sorted ie Drenthe).

Is it worth a -4 to get rid of Jags, the only benefit I can think is long term it might allow me to retain my wildcard until the latest moment possible.

I think there's little doubt you'd rather have RVP Ade Sturridge but it's hard to justify the extra 3+ million to have Ade over Yakubu, especially if you already have Bale.

Personally my 4 targets for the 3 positions are RVP, Aguero, Yak and Sturridge. I'm looking at RVP Aguero Sturridge at the moment but I think I may have to have Yak instead of one of them for budget reasons.

Anyone else a bit concerned about Bale's game time against Wolves tomorrow?

He will have had less than 72 hours since playing 90 minutes against Everton and a look at Spurs' games this season shows he has only played 2 games in short succession once (Thursday and Monday), where he got 90 minutes in one game and 70 minutes in the other, less important game.

I really doubt he'll get 90 minutes against Wolves, but the question is will he start and get 60+ mins or come on second half if needed?

Could be a problem for those looking to captain him and suddenly I'm forced to choose between RVP, Sturridge, Ade, Silva and Dempsey.

    Any thoughts?

Tinkerman....I'm with you...I'm worried Ade that has lost his form might be sacrificed. Defoe/Pav getting gametime?

I also think Wolves might frustrate the hell out of Spurs. Did they not do that last year at WHL? I'm sure i had Defoe(c) and get a 4 pointer? Spurs being 3rd overall might also effect their style of play?

I started off with Bale(c) but now I'm seriously considering at this late stage to WC. I have a good feeling about ManU over the next 3 games. With Silva doubtful I'm worried he might not play or only get a couple of minutes. This could also effect Kun's output.

I'm thinking Nani(c) since he is my only ManU player. My rival has Nani/Rooney and this worried me.

      😕

I knee-jerked Nani > Dempsey after seeing the FA cup games at the weekend. It was something I planned for GW22 onwards anyway but it is probably asking for Nani to go mental, although I can't see it at the moment.

With Pienaar getting some minutes as well as Pav...Defoe in the wings....surely some rotation or reduced gametime is on the cards.

I just always shite myself when ManU(Rooney) have a good fixture. I'm leading my mini league by 3 pts and our teams are similar. Basically it's boiling down to rvp(me) vs Rooney(him).

It scares me to think he will (c) Rooney vs Bolton.

Looking at your team for this week it looks good enough. No Rooney would worry me too, but you can't have them all, Christina!

Wait for news on Silva and Simpson, if they're both out you may be forced to do something but otherwise I'd wait a week.

P.s. If Bale doesn't start I'd be mighty surprised. Ade too.

bale is a beast. if anyone can play 180 minutes in 72 hours, its my boy Bale. He will start and if spurs get up 2 goals, will be the first non-injured sub to come off. Either way, i think he's still a candidate for the armband.

I had also considered this but with the likes of Kranjcar or Pienaar raring to go, there's no need to play him for more than 60+ minutes, unless they are drawing/losing after half-time.

The question is whether he can outscore others (RVP in particular) in the time he is afforded.

        Tough call!

well thats my logic, he will be subbed off in the 45-85 range only if they have established a lead, and he will have contributed to said lead.

If VDV played 90 minutes every game he would probably be one of the top 5 scorers in FPL but he is injured, rested or rotated really often and Bale therefore represents much better value.

If you mean to say that his underlying stats show that he's likely to score in the next game then I'm afraid you're wrong; 4 shots on target in the last 447 minutes in the league says otherwise.

Good spot, but is it a case of he has played less minutes whenever there are short gaps or that we only have one occasion to learn from? i.e. evidence of absence or absence of evidence? 😉

I wouldn't be too worried if it's the latter. But yes, hypothetically he could come off earlier than he would if he had a week.

Well there have been plenty of Europa League games on a Thursday before a weekend game where he hasn't even featured so there is plenty of evidence. You could suggest that Europa League isn't as important to Spurs as the league (based on the teams 'Arry has fielded) but then again they play Wolves tomorrow at home.

I'm not suggesting he wont feature, I'm suggesting he will get 25-65 minutes which would seriously reduce his scoring potential.

As you say I think Bale wasn't even considered for the Europa League - Prem games would be the best comparison. But we both agree he'll play, and you're right that he may well play less. It may be a reason to take the (C) off.

    From FISO FAQ...

To all those asking about multiple price rises..

If a player increases in value because they hit their NTI target, then in order for them to increase again in the same GameWeek (GW) the NTI target gets doubled. If they happen to hit that NTI target, in order for them to get a third increase, their NTI target gets trebled.

    Eg. For the rise of

    0.1 - 25,000 Minimum Transfers Approx.
    0.2 - Original 25k + 25k x 2 = 75,000 Min total transfers approx.
    0.3 - Previous 75k + 25k x 3 = 150k min total approx.
    0.4 - Previous 150k + 25k x 4 = 250,000 minimum total transfers approx.

    Plus..

Q: So if a player’s NTI target is 25,000 and they have an NTI of 30,500 when the price increase occurs, do 5500 NTI roll over for their next target?
A: Unfortunately not, no. When a player hits their target and the price increase happens, their NTI total get reset back to zero. This includes all additional NTIs above the target. They just get lost into the ether.

HTH with all price rise questions..

This was true but they've changed it this season so the NTI target is constant (not doubled/trebled anymore) but they have a rise limit of 0.3 per GW. FISO FAQ is out of date in this respect, I'm sure they're aware of it and should update it...

        I think its the same..

Sessegnon this week has had 125k Net transfers in.. and hes only risen by 0.2.. Which is in line with above example.

If NTI wasnt doubled or trebled he should had risen by 0.4 atleast.

Where's the 125k net transfer figure? I mean I check FISO virtually every day / every other day, I never saw Sess close to twice 25k... let's double check the figures and go from there.

              Right, that's true.

The FISO 'Changes' tab lists each price change and the NTI they happened at so you can see whether the target was the same number each time or a multiple.

Date Time Name Team Event Price NTI
              02 Jan 2012 04:00 Sessegnon, Stephane Sunderland Price Rise 6.3 34300

              05 Jan 2012 03:00 Sessegnon, Stephane Sunderland Price Rise 6.4 29574

              10 Jan 2012 03:00 Sessegnon, Stephane Sunderland Price Rise 6.5 26876

So it hasn't changed - still the same target.

I suggest the most likely thing is that since 02 Jan was the start of this current GW, somehow those extra 34,300 transfers have been counted as part of transfers in. Then the net transfers would be

              34300 + 29574 + 26876 + 12301 (current total) = ~103000 which is closer to that 125k figure.

It is tbh... I think we both confused each other a bit with our posts here and next page.

OK I'll go again - the NTI was recorded for each of Sessegnon's price rises - it was around 25k each time so it's the same for each rise.

Rooney v Aguero debate - who is the better pick for the next few gameweeks?

Rooney > been playing deep of late but signs that he has turned the corner, Also home game against Bolton offers potential rewards for loyal Rooney owners.

Aguero > more consistent over the season and a nailed on choice in many WC teams, but concerns over his supply line in the absence of David Silva raise doubts.

Who's your pick? Or have you gone for both?

I agree with Isacki. Also I am slightly concerned with the role Aguero plays at times as well. Sometimes he is wide and sometimes he is playing the No10 role. Rooney deep is also an issue but it didn't hinder his attacking returns in the beginning of the season

Yep Rooney seems to make a decent job of where he's placed. The 8 GW run without a goal may have been a combination of his placement and the whole dad getting arrested thing. Aguero is dangerous but yes it is interesting how he's technically deployed in the 3 of the 4-2-3-1.

FFS Flavors of the Month: REVIEW Part 3

    GW14: Adebayor, Bale, Baines
    GW15: Jones, Nani, Ba
    GW16: Nani, Mata
    GW17: Evans, Drenthe

    Points total since then

    GW16 – GW20

    Nani: 3, 16, 3, 1, 2/ Total: 25 Ok
    Mata: 3, 2, 9, 2, 3/ Total: 19 Bad

This was the week when Mata or Nani questions flooded the website. After the massive 18 point haul in the previous week people started going Nani crazy. He seemed to be a must have and United were performing again. This reinforced Jones as well and people coveted their United assets. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worst with the Vidic injury. Competition from Valencia as well and some quiet performances of late has left Nani owners in an interesting transfer situation. The other half of the equation was Mata, he somewhat flattered to deceive, seemed to be Chelsea's best player but has a Ramsey like ability to assist the assister and generally frustrate his owners. Most people seem to have sold him on but he may reignite interest if Silver is confirmed out for a while.

Yeah I made heaps of mistakes too in hindsight. In fact many terrible ones. I even overlooked the two best ones Ba and Bale for so long

Good stuff again Ryan. I think from memory that the Nani talk was also in part due to VDV having another hamstring scare, which coincided with Nani's big haul the previous week. Seemed an obvious straight swap at the time and probably was the right call in hindsight too.

Yeah good spot. I think I did that instead of getting Bale actually. Hmmm

Guys, what do you think is the best starting 11 FPL team you could put out this week, regardless of value but with max 3 players from any team. I'll start the bidding with (assuming Silva won't make it, otherwise he'd be in there):

    Friedel
    M Richards, Skrtel, P Jones,
    Nani, Bale, VDV, Dempsey
    Aguero, Rooney, RVP

Hey guys, this isn't a RMWCT, more of a 'Should I wildcard this week?' My current team for this week:

    Friedel
    Enrique / Baines / Caulker
    Larsson / Silva / Nani / Bale
    RVP / Adebayor / Yak

(Vorm // Shawcross / Gower / De Laet

If Silva was assured of playing I don't think I'd be contemplating it, but if he's out, although I can still field a team with Shawcross coming in, I'll have no bench players (presuming Gower doesn't play as has been the norm lately). Is that enough of a reason to WC now instead of GW 24 as was my plan? Any opinions appreciated!

Your team should be ok for this week. Shawcross could score a goal, you just never know. Silver won't miss more than 1 game I think so you should be alright for the following week as well

Ta Ryan. Yeah, as long as none of my starters get rested I'll be fine. Just worried that Bale or Ade may be rested after playing only 3 days earlier...

Interesting point. I really hope they won't be rested as I am in a similar situation as you. Will look out for the 'arry interview when that happens

WC for sure then...looks like some people arnd here in your situation have already called it, but that's kinda pre-mature just to catch the rise/falls.

I'm tempted to do it just to be rid of De Laet! I've had the clown since the very start and I just can't get rid of him, there's always been a more pressing transfer. His time is nigh...

El Nino has put up a link below suggesting Silva may well play against Wigan - he personally thinks he can make it. I wouldn't rush your WC just yet - looks like you'll just have De Laet and Gower out and Gower doesn't like nailed-off to me.

OK, thanks Isacki - exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to hear! And you're right about Gower, he isn't officially nailed-off (great term btw - I may pinch it!)...

Am I banking too much on chelsea with this wc team
    Vorm, Krul
    Senderos,Clark, Assou-Ekotto, Richards, Shotton
    Dempsey, Sessegnon, Mata, Silva, Bale
    Sturridge, Rvp, Yak
    No money in the bank

Mata is a risk imo. You will be hoping that he can start producing good returns again and that Chelsea in general start performing a lot better especially Torres

Why the Evans negativity? Seems like a budget option in a still decent Man U defence.

Thinking of doing Jones (out) - Evans (in), pretty boring transfer... but is Jones likely to play?

Don't know how trustworthy this is, but here we go on the David Silva injury:

Looks to me, he's raring to go on the field vs wig.
