The first Scoutcast of 2012 is here. There’s no dressing this up, the Episode title tells you exactly what to expect. With consecutive gameweek scores hovering around the two millionth rank mark and “ghost ship” squads passing me by, who can really blame me?

A string of unfortunate transfers and an errant injury to an Arsenal centre-back threatens to bring my season falling around my ears. Mark spends much of the podcast attempting to reassure me – convinced I’m at the point of no return, whilst simultaneously adding a few sly digs on the 71 points that’s opened up between us. I wouldn’t have expected anything less.

The season and the show must go on. In between gripes, we eventually throw in the usual array of regulars and, by the end, there’s even a sense of hope. Happy New Year? It couldn’t get any worse.

Feel my pain here.

    2 Newcastle Defenders/2 Fulham Defenders + Evans

    or

    2 Newcastle Defenders/2 Sunderland Defenders + Evans

    or

    2 Newcastle Defenders/1 Fulham/1 Sunderland + Evans

    is the best combo!

Play Krul, your back 3 is good (hope wolves score and stoke dont)

Consider: Rooney plays deep and gets an an assist, Valencia plays at RB, Studge fails to net against a defensive Sunderland. But Aguero bags a brace against Wigan. Mata scores a dead ball against Sunderland, and Yak has another explosive brace against inconsistent Fulham. That'll win you, easy, it's not hard to imagine

Valencia wont play at RB since smalling and Evans have returned. Even Jones could play MF. hence rooney wont play MF. hell be at the front. Gona have to take a Yak attack to win this one.

Just been given my FPL Cup opponent, 4th round. They're ranked 50k above me and we have 7 (!) players in common: Evans, Bale, Valencia, RVP, Ade and Studge, plus injured Osman. I wouldn't be surprised if they're on FFS 😀

    Differences:
GK - I have Sorenson and Vorm - they have Krul and Stockdale
Def - I have BAE, Enrique, Baines and Naylor - they have Walker, Richards, Raylor and injured Jags
Mid - I have Drenthe and Silva - they have Sess and Sinclair
    Attack - Identical.

Who do you reckon will win, and what transfers do you suggest?

True - I mean in theory we should be seeking to make our team as good as possible every week but certainly seeing who your up against can change your priorities of which week to focus on. Silva to Nani if he's definitely out, not sure about Chelsea players v a fast improving Sunderland against a defensive manager - or whether I can count on Ramires.

Made two subs this week for a 4pointer and wondered if it's just worth biting the bullet on my WC considering Silva is a big doubt.

    Krul
    BAE / Enrique / Kelly
    Dempsey / Silva / Nani / Bale
    Sturridge / RVP / Adebayor

    Vorm / Dyer / Shotton / Brown

    Thoughts really appreciated!

Wildcarding next week. With that in mind, Drenthe>HBA or Silva>Gerrard for a 1 week punt? Or what I'm really tempted by, a 4 point hit to do both?

I wouldn't lose much value on Silva and I might be getting rid anyway, plus I really don't want him this week if he doesn't play as it would result in me doubling up on Swansea defence at home to Arsenal.

I would also probably captain Gerrard if I brought him in.

Had Gerrard in my team all wk but went for dempsey instead to free up cash for elsewhere. Liverpool fan but dont think they'll get many against a tight stoke defence.

They certainly have but Gerard back and playing 90 minutes will hopefully create more chances and heck, if they can have one hit the net instead of the woodwork at home for a change, they might rip some side a new one!

Stoke at Anfield, surely a more advanced role.........I hope so cause I got him in for Silva. Swore I'd have no more Pool players this season after the Suarez fantasy flop but here I go again with Stevie G for the next 4!

He was very deep, but I think that may have been a one-off. I think they may have wanted Henderson further up the pitch to put De Jong and co under pressure, and give Gerrard a little more space in a deeper role.

I can't imagine Gerrard being that deep in a game where Liverpool will dominate possession and will be looking for goals. The only reason Liverpool have been struggling at home is that both Suarez and Carroll have missed chance after chance. If Gerrard gets a chance I'd fancy him to bury it. 3 goals in 3 games for him now. He's just so very tempting. I think I'm talking myself into the 4 point hit.

Liverpool don't necessarily have to score many for Gerrard to get returns. I think Liverpool will win, and he's as likely as anyone to score or assist. I'd be surprised if he didn't get me at least 6 points as captain, whereas Silva could easily get me 0 or 1.

I fancy Ben Arfa at home to QPR too. No Faurlin or Barton should mean he gets a bit more space.

I've been sliding down the rankings for weeks now so I really feel like doing something different.

Guess i cant complain my cup opponent is ranked 2,395,227th in the world. Perhaps its that 40 point hit in GW8 that caused him some problems. He hasn't made a transfer in 10 gws but he still sets his lineup. Very odd. His likely squad:

    Szczesny

    Enrique, Jones, Walker

    Silva, Kuyt, Larrson, Ramsey, Pilkington

    RVP, Balotelli

    (Graham, Olsson, Kelly(liv)) vs.

    Krul

    Enrique, BAE, Kelly(ful)

    Silva, Nani, Bale, Drenthe(sigh)

    RVP, Adebayor, Yakubu

    (Moses, Kompany, Jagielka)

we both have silva as a doubt and two players on bench that wont play. Do i need to take a hit by dropping drenthe or jags? 1.3 mil in addition to spend.

No, you'll probably lose more on a hit - you should win comfortably come on, none of his first two subs will do much and he has Silva out with Pilkington subject to rotation - you at least have Moses

yeah graham should be his only sub, olsson is red flagged apparently not due back, and kelly (liv) will never see the pitch. Assuming he captain's RVP, better to follow suit and rely on rest of my team to beat rest of his team? Could prevent disaster. Or just captain bale or nani as planned?

I am planning to play 3-4-3 for the rest of the season.

My 4th and 5th midfielder are Ramires/Milner and sess for now. So probably rotate sess and ramires/Milner for sometime.

with this combination, i can have enrique and walker as my only good defenders. i am thinking if i have to downgrade Ramires to someone like pilkington or HBA and upgrade one of my defender like cahill to Richards....

So my question is it best to 3 solid defenders or 5 good mids??

i dont think there is a necessary transfer for any of your starters. You could use it to improve your bench, mainly gomes, or you could get howard outta there. Or you could pocket it. every home team plays away next week and vice versa, so if you pocket it, you can take out 2 players with road ties and replace them with 2 players embarking on consecutive home ties.

      Another Drenthe phenomenon.

Have ye been missing the last few PL matches or something? He's been partnering Ba up front as of late and is a far better player than Drenthe imo (re is goal against Blackburn in the cup:phenomenal) he is a real attacking threat and playing well. A bit of a punt but potentially another oop bargain. That's why.

He will. Pardew is talking about putting him on the wing.

I'm aware he's been coming off the bench but with two key players at the ACN and with Barfa in good form...ya know what forget it.

It's that goal he scored. People watch too much football on this site and don't pay enough attention to the boring spreadsheets. 😀

Noooooooooooooooooooo, I watch football myself mate, Just my thoughts. With Tiote and Ba out he'll surely have a reshuffle. Ameobi and Best is a pretty shocking partnership imo
