The first Scoutcast of 2012 is here. There’s no dressing this up, the Episode title tells you exactly what to expect. With consecutive gameweek scores hovering around the two millionth rank mark and “ghost ship” squads passing me by, who can really blame me?

A string of unfortunate transfers and an errant injury to an Arsenal centre-back threatens to bring my season falling around my ears. Mark spends much of the podcast attempting to reassure me – convinced I’m at the point of no return, whilst simultaneously adding a few sly digs on the 71 points that’s opened up between us. I wouldn’t have expected anything less.

The season and the show must go on. In between gripes, we eventually throw in the usual array of regulars and, by the end, there’s even a sense of hope. Happy New Year? It couldn’t get any worse.

Feel my pain here.

I think I will keep Silva. I can sell him for 9.9 but to get him back I need to fork out 10.4. Not worth it I think

Perhaps double up on Man Utd. Wouldn't hurt, since Silva may be left out. Could be kicking yourself if both partner up with the forwards. Each to their own though, if Silva is a high doubt I'll stick with Nani for a week.

    Some questions for you?

    1) What's the latest news on David Silva? Any idea of length of absence?
    2) Is Daniel Sturridge going to be fit enough to start this weekend?
    3) Has anyone heard anything about Ben Arfa starting?
    4) Any developments in the Gary Cahill transfer?
    5) Any clues on Man Utd's likely back four?

      1) read the post
      2) same
      3) Pardew has stated he;ll get a chance, but whether he'll start...
      4) no
      5) Rio is doubtful, so I'd say Evans has a high chance of starting since I'm assuming that's the purpose of that question

        Smalling actually 😉

I've seen the tweet about Sturridge back in training but this doesn't mean starting. I don't know if I missed something on Silva, I'll have a look...

      1) I think Mancini will be letting us know tomorrow.
      2) Yes most likely.
      3) No news that I've heard.
      4) Should be going ahead over the next few days I reckon accotding to AVBs comments tonight.
      5) Smalling, Evans, Jones, Evra. (More than likely Rio out.)

Yea i reckon smalling is always gonna be safer to evans (especially after evan/gibson/ rooney's shinanigans over christmas). Although one of the twins (couldnt be bothered figuring out which one isn't injured) could also start over Jones if (so many are suggesting) he may be rested.

I would love to know answers to these questions also "father". At a guess I would say:

      1) 30-70 with a likely rest ahead
      2) Sturridge confirmed fit for the Subderland game, he'll likely start with Deogs away
      3) Ben Arfa more likely to start than not but could be used as an impact sub and he's not nailed on. AP did say after last week that he's done himself no harm with that amazing goal, expect him to get more regular starts but it's still not guaranteed.
      4) Gary should sign by the weekend but highly unlikely to play this GW
      5) Total guesswork: with Ferdinand being crook it could be Evra, Jones, Smalling, Evans although if they push Jones into midfield (and then Rooney into forward role) then Evans and Smalling look more likely to start.

      Hope this helps

think he will always have a taboo attached to his name due to his defensive midfield past but he looks a genuine prospect this season, clark alongside him has given him some nice freedom. his biggest problem could be he plays for quite an uninspiring aston villa side

My team for this coming GW, which has come at the cost of 8 points is:

    Krul
    Richards, Enrique, Jones, Walker
    Silva, Bale, Nani
    RVP, Ade, Yak

    Vorm, Drenthe, Surman, Naylor

    2.7 in bank

    Should I wildcard to:

    Krul
    Richards, Enrique, BAE
    Gerrard, Nani, Bale, Dempsey
    RVP, Aguero, Yak

    Vorm, Surman, Kelly Caulker

    Nothing in bank

Would rather wait until GW24 (WC team would be similar but Silva instead of Nani/Gerrard and no BAE) but that 8 point hit doesn't look nice.

I would never cop an 8 point hit so yes, i would use the wildcard now.

I would take the wildcard but i wouldnt trade out Silva. See if you can get Walters/Sess/Barfa as your 5th midfielder.

Maybe BAE > Williamson and use the cash to upgrade Surman.

Yeah, I don't want to use my wildcard but the 8 point hit is painful (especially how it happened but let's not go into that).

With the cost of my 4 starting WC midfield coming close to 40m I won't be getting a bench midfielder costing more than 5m. I should keep Silva though.

          Clark Simpson Senderos

          Dempsey Bale silva mcclean/walters

          RVP Aguero rooney

          mcclean or Walters/caulker/MCauley/Ruddy on bench

i reckon silva will play @ the weekend so the decision would be mcclean or walters to start. i reckon a still looks more solid tho (try & start silva) so still a for me

Cheers, Kenneth. I guess it comes down to my affinity for BAE (I've had him forever) and unwillingness to give him up...but still, Tott fixtures go super rotten after Wigan. It also depends on how Rooney is doing. He has done crap for me since GW 6, so if he finds himself coming into form then I can easily do the BAE/Valencia/sturridge drop and pick up option B. I feel more balanced with A, hehe.

You asked if the rank was relevant in some way
I gave you a way in which it is 🙂

I thought it was funny throwing it in there at the end of the Q but as far as being relevant to the question - I couldnt agree more with you

well then it's a tough call imo, Ade has Wolves at home, which is a good fixture. Aguero could go crazy vs Wigan, but if Silva doesn't make it, the service may not be there for him. I'd get Rooney instead for this week if you can afford it.

definitely not impossible but you have to take risks to catch up.

The biggest differential is of course choosing less popular captains rather than transferring players. e.g Captaining Silva/Nani when everyone else is obviously going to captain RVP on any game week.

Again, I continue to tinker, my WC is active and here’s what I’ve got planned.

    Mingolet, Krul
    Enrique Evans Richards BAE Williamson
    Sess Walters Gerrard Bale Valencia
    Aguero RVP Yakubu

If it works out how I planned it Ill transfer Gerrard to Silva when he’s fit and after he comes out the carling cup and just switch between the two, at least until March that team gives me favourable options each week to the transfers will just be to pick and choose the in form players.
