Peter Odemwingie made an instant impact in his first Premier League campaign, going on to notch 15 goals and 9 assists – an outstanding return for a player commanding a modest Fantasy price tag. We went into this season expecting more from Odemwingie under the stewardship of Roy Hodgson, but, up until December, the Nigerian has failed to live up to last term’s outstanding displays.

Odemwingie had looked a shadow of his former self, registering just a couple goals in the first 13 gameweeks amidst claims of injury and fatigue. After public criticism from Hodgson, however, the striker’s returns have shown definite improvement, with 2 goals and 3 assists between gameweeks 14-17 indicative of a step up in performance. Granted, the Baggies have failed to find the net in their last three outings but Odemwingie is undoubtedly back on the radar.

Odemwingie certainly needs to step up. Strike partner Shane Long has notched just once in his last seven appearances, having started his career at the Hawthorns in explosive style. Long is also currently nursing a back injury which could yet keep him out of the weekend clash with Norwich.

Although a more expensive Fantasy option than Long, there is good reason to believe that Odemwingie, with injuries now firmly behind him, has rediscovered his appetite. Despite missing a fair amount of action, his Fantasy contribution has already surpassed Long, with 4 goals and 3 assists compared with the Irishman’s 5 goals. Since the start of December, Odemwingie has outscored Long by 31 points to 18, an indication of their respective displays.

Chris Brunt’s absence with a fractured ankle is also significant to Odemwingie’s fortunes. While the Baggies will doubtless miss his creativity from midfield, Odemwingie seems set to be established as penalty taker during Brunt’s absence and he may even play a major role from direct free-kicks.

West Brom now appear to have favourable fixtures right up to the start of March. Having drawn a blank against a resilient Everton, home games against Norwich, Swansea and Sunderland afford Odemwingie the platform for a strong start to the New Year. It’s also worth noting that West Brom have scored 12 goals away from home this season, five more than at the Hawthorns.

With Demba Ba now departed for the African Cup of Nations with Senegal, his owners will be shopping for a mid-price replacement and Odemwingie, priced at 7.2, could well fit the bill. With Nigeria failing to qualify for the tournament, he will remain in England, sizing up Norwich this weekend, with our FPL January wildcards now in play. There’s no doubt Odemwingie has the pedigree to produce and, with a Fantasy ownership of just 3%, could well emerge as a hugely effective differential for those bold enough to take the punt.

Knowledgeable peeps, my team looks like this, but who to fill the space for a one-week punt before WCing?

    Krul (Vorm)
    Walker, Jones, Simpson (Baines, Naylor)
    Bale, Nani, ??? (Moses, Allen)
    RvP, Ade, ???

    £14.4m for the pair.

    Creative ideas welcome... 🙂

    ok straw poll time

    Dempsey or Sess

Dempsey would seem to have better fixtures, but Sess has only 1 point less as is 2 million cheaper. So who would you pick, you can only pick one, not both

Dempsey gonna be a big FF player over the next couple of months barring injuries he's a shoe in for my wildcard.

Sess hasn't got great fixtures but there's the new manager syndrome to factor in to the equation.

I may have both in my Wildcard.

        I said you can't say both 😆

I may lose Richards in my wc and have a front 7 of Dempsey, Bale, Valencia, Gerrard, Aguero, RvP and Sturridge.

Think that might score rather well.

Jones, Tierney and Kompany are all in my defence and all flagged. Is it worth a 4 point hit to swap one of them out? If none of them play then im left with 10 men.

Iv already used 2 free transfers this week and want to save the wc for next week.

Any way of finding out prices of players who have been removed from the game? Like for instance I know Gyan and Fabregas are still lurking within some bizarre dead teams and therefore have a price. Just wondering how much Roque Santa Cruz will be if he does go QPR?

              you have to wildcard:

              Jones - 65%
              Hibbert - 25%

It's still your choice obviously but I would have hit the button. Fortunately there haven't been many price rises to catch in this little window so I don't think you've missed out on not wildcarding earlier on.

    Lovely news...

1.05pm: David Silva is set to return from an ankle knock for Manchester City for Monday's trip to Wigan. That's a massive boost for City - with Samir Nasri desperately disappointing and Yay Toure away, there is a huge dependence on Silva at the moment. Mario Balotelli should also be fit to play, assuming he doesn't join a college between now and Monday.

Provisional squad: Hart, Pantilimon, Richards, Zabaleta, Savic, Onuoha, Clichy, Kolarov, Lescott, Johnson, De Jong, Milner, Barry, Hargreaves, Nasri, Silva, Dzeko, Aguero, Balotelli.

    😀

Even if he doesn't play, I'm just glad I didn't sell him because he'll miss no more than 1 game.
I do expect him to start and do really well though.

1.04pm: Manchester United have worries over Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Anderson ahead of the visit of Bolton. Paul Scholes appears to have been missed off the list I've ctrl cee and veed below, but I assume he should be there.

Provisional squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evra, Jones, Fryers, Cole, Carrick, Valencia, Park, Anderson, Nani, Giggs, Rooney, Welbeck, Berbatov, Hernandez, Diouf, Keane.

Yeah there is the double Chelsea issue. Torres is a risk himself, but one that could REALLY pay off. I just don't fancy Everton on the attacking front recently and don't see Donovan gaining many point. I wouldn't bring Sess in either this week, don't know why everyone is when Sunderland are away to Chelsea, wait till the next GW for that.

      Walters - difficult game
      Silva - potentially injured
      Nani - out of form
      McAuley - injured
      Brown - injured

I need to use my 1 FT this gw, as I'm probably wildcarding next one. What do I do?

My current team for the weekend :

    Howard

    Baines / Samba / Enrique / Evans

    Bale(c) / VDV / Silva / HBA

    RVP(vc) / Ade

    Bench : Vorm / Morison / M.Petrov / Wilkinson

    1.2 in bank.

    was thinking :
Silva -> Gerrard / Nani (risky, but could pay off big time) or
Howard -> any keeper under 6.6
Ade -> Rooney + 4pt. transfer to get the extra 1.6M i need for it.
    Any other ideas welcome!

I think all my defenders at some point this gameweek have been involved in injury doubts except the useless Ward. My other defenders are Simpson, Ntaylor, Shotton, and Hibbert. I have Silva as well as a doubt. I still have my transfer left, any advice? Will use my WC next week, so it's for 1 week.
