League leaders Manchester City travel to the DW Stadium tonight, looking to put breathing space between themselves and their city rivals. The Dugout Discussion chatroom opens in anticipation of the conclusion of Gameweek 21.

Both team sheets have been handed in, and here is how they line-up on this horribly cold Monday night…

Wigan XI: Al Habsi, Stam, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figueroa, McArthur, McCarthy, Gomez, Crusat, Rodallega, Moses.

Man City XI: Hart, Zabaleta, Savic, Lescott, Clichy, Milner, Barry, Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko.

Roberto Martinez continues with Albert Crusat, who manages to shake off a slight back injury to start tonight. James McArthur begins for only the third time in the league this season, replacing Mohamed Diame who is unavailable thanks to the African Cup of Nations.

Manchester City are forced to partner Jolean Lescott and Stefan Savic at centre-back once more, despite a very ropey performance in their defeat to United last weekend. Elsewhere, David Silva is restored to the starting line-up, Sergio Aguero partners Edin Dzeko up front, and Pablo Zabaleta replaces Micah Richards.

Follow all the action in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which can be accessed right here.

well qpr placed a bid of 3.5 mil lately, as far as i know, many german/italian clubs who were intersted in alex can afford that and he will definitly prefer them over qpr

They'd be amazing, with another really good striker and a fully-sit midfield QPR could finish mid-table and be the new Newcastle next year.

Why Chelsea are ditching Alex I'll never know, I thought he was pretty good at his job.

Alex declined to go to rangers.
Samba is wanted by Spurs mostly, with all their CB injuries(gallas, king, etc.)

IMO Samba will be on the move shortly, transfered in his request papers:

i watched their home game against bolton where the fans were more interested in abusing kean rather than getting behind their team. it was that moment that I begun hoping that blackburn go down this year (despite nelsen, the only kiwi in the epl playing for them).

I didnt trust Valencia before, that's true before he played RB and had a rotation risk.
but after Young confirmed out for another month, Scholes back in Midfield (mean Jones will be on defence, CB or RB) , Rafael back. and after read some good article about him http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2012/Jan/Evra-and-Carrick-praise-Antonio-Valencia.aspx?pageNo=1

I choose Valencia to to differential when all my league opponent still use Nani. From after WC, i always take Valencia > Nani mate.

Is it just me or does AVB have "a thing" for Portuguese players... all of a sudden he comes in and mereiles is getting 90min games over lampard, one of chelsea's top scorers and leaders of all time.

I think its rubbish. Nothing against mereiles as a player but IF essien comes back and doesnt play 90mins EVERY match when fit, then I've lost all respect for AVB. Essien is class and a way better player in the midfield than mereiles(just saying)

Unlikely. Though he could be subjected to rotation fairly easier now with UCL coming up.

Initially, I'd expect a Ramires - Essien - Meir/Lamps set-up but once Essien feels fitter, I wouldn't be surprised to see him fit in CM for more solid defending, whilst Ramires + the front 3 steer the attacks.

honestly avb's system does not fit lampard
his glory days were playing in the hole behind a hold up striker like drogba
anyway for some reason avb decided this season to play 4-3-3 with one holding player in midfield and two box-to-box which is a bit too much for lampard's age and type of runs.
not to mention that mata is playing at wing while his best position is on the hole and sturridge is playing on the other wing while he cnt pass the ball to save his life
anw he should only be judged next december imo, by then his vision of the team wouldv became clear, but i think avb is not good enough for chelsea

Its not that "hes not good enough" hes a good coach surely, just give him time. He's just making drastic changes to the system/formation chelsea are used to/have been playing over the years.

As for the lampard statement, i completely disagree. He has showed time after time he is a hungry, determined player that will do what he is told. He sat anxiously waiting on the bench in the man ciity game. What does he do? Comes on in the 70ish minute and scores the GWG

thats the problem i dnt think chelsea needed drastic changes to their formation, i think they only needed personel. like mata was a good pick if he's balanced by another winger, not a selfish player like sturridge.
they were right last year to go for a striker, unfortunatly it ddnt work for them and now they cnt invest coz of the financial fair play rule, not to mention the fee they paid for luiz...

Too early to say that. Transition is never easy, esp when we've had so many managers all planning for the short-term. AVB's the first real long-term based manager, so definitely deserves time.

Raylor has killed me this season.

Who'd have thunk it, eh? Kind of losing the desire to play the rest of this season now. All my differentials have been crap recently (Nani, Helguson, Adebayor), or injured (Jags, Richards).

Now 40 odd points behind mini league leader. Haven't even got the motivation to use wildcard this week, just can't be doing with this anymore.

40 points is absolutely nothing. There was a fellow in my league who was 170 points behind the league leader at one point.

Now he's 20 points ahead of him, in third place while the leader is in 5th.

It's a crazy game, this one.

I will give you me 5p worth of advice...Rooney for Ars/STOKE is better than SPURS/Eve I think.

If Pig did not miss the peno he should have been up for 2+4+3=9 at least. Don't forget the 2 assists.

Then after ManU vs Stoke I will do Rooney-->Kun.

Exactly. Penalty goes in (and it wasn't that bad a shot, should have belted it down the guts though at that height) and Rooney probably ends up with 14 or 15 points this week and everyone would be bringing him in on their WC. And Jack's fudged figures wouldn't look quite so convincing... 😉

this is a first. according to watchlist, demspey has favourable AND unfavourable fixtures.

right. brace yourself, maybe boring but at least appreciate the though process... (fingers crossed)

thoughts on my midfield plans for WC. silva, bale, valencia are frozen. 3 forwards start every week. so these two mid spots can either be set up for rotation, or go for a big 4th mid and a cheap emergency backup. The only "big" 4th mid i could afford that makes any sense is Dempsey, and would pair with McClean.

i should have 2 free transfers for GW24 after WCing this week, would take a disaster for me too use one next week. that week, dempsey is away to city and i wont want to use him. with two transfers, i can drop dempsey/mcclean for walters/sinclair, which would rotate for 4 weeks (SUN, NOR, SWA, NOR).

of course we all know two gws is a long time for two transfers you have in mind to blow up in your face.
i came up with another option.
start with sessegnon and sinclair, get SWA, NOR out of sess, then drop him for walters. Only one transfer to have a 4th mid with a fixture run of (SWA, NOR, SUN, NOR, SWA, NOR).
so with this in mind, is dempsey all that crucial? and is my plan sound?

Sorry FW, having trouble understanding your plan tbh. You want to always play 3 up front right? Then play Silva Bale and Valencia, with the last spot always rotating?

I would point out that Dempsey seems to me like one of those players. You said you don't want to play him when he has ManC away, but I can see him popping up with a goal there. Or did you mean you didn't want to play him because the spot is more valuable?

I've gone for a similar strategy Fuzzy. I've got the same 3 frozen players and after playing around trying to fit Dempsey in have opted for

      a) Sess and Walters if I have Aguero up front or
      b) Sess and Dyer if I have Rooney up front

I think either of those options will score more overall than Dempsey and an uber-cheap 5th mid

I think it's more too not penalise people for injuries. Meaning that hanging on to injured players can be a viable tactic if you want to.

Don't think the same rule should apply to suspensions though, although arguably that is as much the Fantasy Managers fault as an injury. Plus they have already had the -ve points.

Yeah, did it last week as I was getting bored with my team.
              Score after wildcard - 49
              Score if I hadn't wildcarded - 48
              Success! 😆

Hey FATboy....Well I'm sticking to my WC plan....Rooney/Nani over Kun/Silva for weeks 21-23....so far 9 vs 8pts....It seems I've been correct. No reason to change.

yeah they generally do, but when they don't. its just a plain 2 or 3. but with CS you can easily get 30 out of those defs. dont you think so ?

Yes but def get - points for conceding and are also more likely to get cards. For an attacking def (like Raylor) it makes sense but I wouldnt put Clichy in that category. Hes not even add asured to syart. I would go for Skrtl till GW24 and swap for Kompany.

jsut aim to play 4 in the back and the weeks all 5 make sense, which will be rare, you can go that route. if you plan on playing fletcher every week i suppose thats fine, but you are still going to have gws where you HAVE to start dyer or surman, thats a little sketchy.

in honestly think you'd be better off not going with rooney, your team value doesnt seem to be very high, you can cut money by switching him to aguero. also would get santon in place of raylor, raylor would be nice to have right now, but you can at least get the CS returns with santon. use that extra 2 million now and upgrade dyer to walters.
