League leaders Manchester City travel to the DW Stadium tonight, looking to put breathing space between themselves and their city rivals. The Dugout Discussion chatroom opens in anticipation of the conclusion of Gameweek 21.

Both team sheets have been handed in, and here is how they line-up on this horribly cold Monday night…

Wigan XI: Al Habsi, Stam, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figueroa, McArthur, McCarthy, Gomez, Crusat, Rodallega, Moses.

Man City XI: Hart, Zabaleta, Savic, Lescott, Clichy, Milner, Barry, Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko.

Roberto Martinez continues with Albert Crusat, who manages to shake off a slight back injury to start tonight. James McArthur begins for only the third time in the league this season, replacing Mohamed Diame who is unavailable thanks to the African Cup of Nations.

Manchester City are forced to partner Jolean Lescott and Stefan Savic at centre-back once more, despite a very ropey performance in their defeat to United last weekend. Elsewhere, David Silva is restored to the starting line-up, Sergio Aguero partners Edin Dzeko up front, and Pablo Zabaleta replaces Micah Richards.

Follow all the action in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which can be accessed right here.

Depends on who you are planning to swop out, but I think you've missed the boat on bringing players in to make money. I brought in Skrtel and Fletcher at the weekend and of those only Fletcher is likely to rise twice.

    Let's talk WC goalkeepers.

Lindegaard would be a good pick IF he was definitely nailed on to be United's number 1 - but he isn't. So is the thinking to have a 1st team keeper to be subbed in, for the games he misses?

I've had Krul / Vorm all season; both are nailed on starters, in form, and both teams keep their fair share of cleansheets, so surprised people aren't going for that mix.

Another route is Vorm / Tremmel and select Vorm every game, therefore saving a lot of cash for outfield.

Lindegaard is the cheapest way into the Man Utd defence. A good buy in my opinion because he's very cheap and Man Utd are solid defensivley. However you need a nailed on GK when Lindegaard doesnt play like Vorm or Krul

              Newcastle - everyone was bad.
City - 1 goal, Scholes' fault. The other, a good freekick.

You can't say a defender is bad just by looking at the scoreline, just as you can't say Bogdan was bad last weekend after conceding 3.

Yes Fratboy but I'm not just looking at the scoreline just as you can't just say "everyone was bad" against Newcastle so that is okay, Rio can be forgiven. For me he was partly but significantly at fault for Ba's first goal giving him too much space to hit that fabulous shot.

In the City game he made lots of stupid mistakes too. At one point he "dilly-dallied" on the ball for too long then blindly hit a wayward pass out to the RB position when Jones had made a run... I think it was Silva who picked the ball up and City created a chance from that unneccessary mistake. It could have been very costly and he has the cheek to give off to Jones who actually had to remind him "You lost the ball!". He's been constantly hoofing balls like that as well which is getting on my nerves.

Only thing I'll say is that he hasn't been as bad as Jones recently.

I think Ferdinand is past it, he just doesn't have the pace any more what so ever. Last few games hes been constantly misplacing passes as well. Smalling is more reliable in Centre Defence than Rio I'm afraid.

I'm not sure I agree with this either. Smalling was disastrously at fault when Aguero scored in the FA Cup, failing to track Sergio's run and remaining static as the rebound fell to him. I do like him though, he's young and has time.

Rio is still a very decent defender, not as good as his imperious best but can still do a job for us.

To be fair, I don't think any of the defence can claim to have played well recently considering we shipped 3 to Blackburn, 3 to Newcastle and 2 to a 10-man City.

Lol. you have got to be doing a lot of nose candy to be chatting so much complete excrement. Johnny Evans one of United's better defenders. If you had proper vision and were a proper football analyst you would realise that is complete balls. Jones, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Ferdinand have all played better than him. How many starts did he get when united went on that run of clean sheets (directly after he started and got sent off in the Man City defeat)?

    Have a back 5 of: Richards / Enrique / Cahill / Santon / Evans

Gotta pick 3 for next week, so it's Rochards / Enrique / Cahill, riight?

Or worth using a FT to bring someone in with my 0.3 in the bank?

(GK's are Vorm & Sorensen, the lattter to play next week)

    WC Team...

    Stockdale Vorm
    Richards Shawx Simpson Senderos Clark
    Bale Silva Sess Dempsey Surman
    Helguson RVP Rooney

    Plan is
    Rooney --> Aguero GW 24
    Stockdale ---> Schwarzer when back
    Helguson --> Ba when back

    I'm guessing pretty generic. Thoughts?

You'd want Clark to put in some goals or assists, because he's not going to be getting you many cleansheets.

If you want a cheap striker, go for Morison over Helguson - QPR struggle to score most weeks. Morison contributes something virtually every game.

Yea Clark oop is why he's there at the moment. Decent run from GW 26, but maybe a SUN def in the meantime.
QPRs fixtures just so tempting...and its only till Ba gets back. NOR fixtures, apart from home to BOL don't excite me...

Morison will get something this weekend vs Chelsea, but Helguson is a good bet vs Wigan. Just worried with the new Manager that Macheda/Bortroyd and Co will all eat into Helg gametime.

Why get stockdale just to take him out again? That's a waste of a trade. Get someone that rotates with Vorm now. Only 17 weeks to go. Or get a joker and play vorm every week. You have senderos, so doubling up on Ful I think is no good.

      Clark is a no-no IMO.

If he came to United I would be personally quite shocked. Ferguson does not like to admit defeat and buying a new keeper in the Jan window after signing one for 20 Million in the summer doesn't look right.

There wont be any allocation of the 3/2/1.

The 6 pts were allocated to Rooney for his 2 fake assists.

      The short answer is: no.

The long answer is: In my opinion probably Dzecko and 2 defenders, perhaps Silva sneaking in for the 1, although it's far from certain!

how long does it take to announce bonus points for 1 effin game?? seriously, its a joke how they drag this on and on, there shouldnt b any reason why they cant announce them a couple of hours after the game, at most, not the next day, ridiculous

They've stated that both will stand as there's no way of knowing if Wellbeck got a touch on the 1st and Rooney had the last touch before the second - it bounced off his leg.

lol, know way of knowing... unless you see the ball mysteriously veer in a totally different direction after going past Welbecks foot, or even ask Welbeck... I mean can we even be sure that Paul Scholes was really playing, and did he really connect with the ball.

Could be worth doubling up in times of good fixtures AND Raylor playing OOP. One of the two could also be dropped though if Santon nails down the left-back spot so keep an eye out for that

    Morning All,
Really cant decide who to replace Adebayor with just for the next two weeks between Rooney or Aguero. I have both Silva and Nani but no Chelsea attacking coverage, so am also tempted by a gamble on Torres. I know no ones going to suggest taking that gamble, but what do people think is the better option Rooney or Aguero? The only other option to get Chelsea coverage is I have two free transfers and could actualy get Sturridge and Mata to replace Adebayor and Drenthe.

the thing about Ageuro is that his away form is terrible. Same as Mata and Walters. If you get Aguero its something you have to live with. He's too expensive to bench, but his stats don't lie...he's terrible away.

Rooney is a toughy...he's the one I went for in my WC. I still have reservations, but when on form he can score home and away and score well.

      Do.Not.Gamble.On. Torres.

I agree with Manani...bent actually looks a very good prospect.

annnnnd STOP. 10:15am GMT. WC is done. Here it is. Im just as sick researching it as you are reading/skipping past it.

    GK- Sorensen, Lindegaard.
-this is where i took a giant leap of faith, dropping vorm and krul. Boom or bust.

    DEF-Richards, Enrique, Raylor, Caulker, Kelly
-raylor a must till after acon, at that point can drop him for santon, and use funds to upgrade keeper if that backfires. mixing and matching with these five and they will all get used at least once at the moment, for the next 6 gws, Richards used 5 times, Raylor 4, Enrique 3, Kelly 4 and Caulker once.

    MID-Silva, Bale, Valencia, Sessegnon, Walters(perhaps etherington) .
-Not that i wanted to give up on Nani, but the money freed up by opting for Valencia too much to ignore. not accustomed to having no cheapies in attack, but the concept of a stronger bench option and the ability to bench one with a poor fixture is more valuble than spending 2 mil more on dempsey and having mcclean as a 2nd option.

    FWD-RVP, Aguero, Sturridge
-nothing to point out. could have gone cheaper option for 3rd striker, plenty to choose from, but want that chelsea coverage. they start every week along with silva, bale and valencia.

thanks for everyone's input and patience. I am officially done. Wont ask anymore. Promise. 🙂

      erm...can i point out walters/sess

is rotating mids a good idea?

surely u'll kick urself if one of these scores on ur bench...u need a cheaper bench warmer then perhaps you can think about ugrading your goalies/ keeping krul+vorm i.e. best combo for value in the league esp as uve kept them from the start no?

If you then have a cheaper bench warmer (eg. Dyer) then you'll kick yourself if you bench him every week and he scores in double figures!

Your Defence sounds pretty solid, in fact, it's a pretty solid team in general. I'd prefer to have 2 cheaper mids rotating (I'm gonna go with McClean and Sigurdsson I think), I think Sess is not far from proving himself 'fixture proof'.

almost the start, aready pulled the trigger in anticipation of lindegaard price rise, was wrong could have bought a little more time, but whats done is done there. im sure sorensen will go this weekend. next week they play each other. if by then the plan looks poor, wil ldump raylor for santon and upgrade. Vorm/Krul was nice but want a different look.
