Nathan Dyer plays a pivotal part as Swansea come from behind to see off Arsenal. Gylfi Sigurdsson impresses on his debut, setting up Danny Graham to down the Gunners. Leon Best grabs the winner for Newcastle, while Tim Krul excels in goal to give Mark Hughes a QPR debut to forget.

Ryan Taylor
He certainly seems to have lost his position at left-back to Davide Santon but Taylor continued on the right flank for Newcastle yesterday in the 1-0 win over QPR. The second most popular defender in Fantasy Premier League, with 34% ownership, Taylor’s out of position role looks set to see him pick up more Fantasy suitors after his assist and clean sheet contribution against Mark Hughes’ side helped him to 3 bonus points. Newcastle face three away fixtures in the next four (ful, bla, AVL, tot) and while their clean sheet potential may drop, Taylor’s more attacking role, in addition to set-piece duties, could see him flourish further over the next few gameweeks.

Leon Best
While Hatem Ben Arfa once again started from the bench, Best was handed his fourth start in six games by Alan Pardew, lining up alongside Shola Ameobi. With Demba Ba unavailable due to international commitments, Best vindicated his manager’s faith by netting the game’s only goal, his first since gameweek 5 away to Aston Villa. He seems set to feature in the first XI while Ba is absent and, at 4.6, is a handy cut-price option, though the Magpies’ above-mentioned schedule may deter Fantasy managers from acquiring his services.

Hatem Ben Arfa
As mentioned, the Frenchman was named amongst the subs in spite of his FA Cup wonder goal last weekend. Clearly, many had expected him to start- an influx of over 11,000 transfers in prior to yesterday’s clash was the most he has attracted in any gameweek this season. An early first-half ankle injury to Yohan Cabaye afforded him a place in midfield but it’s becoming apparent Ben Arfa is far from a certain starter under Pardew, even in Demba Ba’s absence. Cabaye will undergo a scan in the next couple of days and with Cheik Tiote also away at the African Cup of Nations, Newcastle’s midfield will be severely diminished if he’s ruled out for any period of time.

Tim Krul
Mark Hughes will no doubt be cursing the Dutchman after a defiant display in the Newcastle goal prevented QPR from finding the net at the Sports Direct Arena. Krul helped his side to a fourth clean sheet in six matches but while his Fantasy owners will be delighted with the 6 saves that saw him return an 8 point haul, it’s noticeable that he has only made more saves in one of the previous 20 gameweeks- an indication of how less secure Newcastle are without Tiote and Cabaye in the centre of the park.

Robin Van Persie
The FPL top scoring player opened his 2012 goal account with the opener in yesterday’s 3-2 defeat at the Liberty Stadium. Having been rested for last Monday’s FA Cup win over Leeds, Van Persie took only five minutes to get back to goalscoring ways with a smartly taken effort against compatriot Michel Vorm. While many opted for Nani and Gareth Bale as captaincy options, Van Persie seemed a solid pick- he’d returned double figures four times on the road- but failed to add to his tally and faces a tough test at home to Man United next weekend.

Scott Sinclair
The winger’s spot-kick duties once again helped boost his Fantasy tally against Arsenal. All 6 of Sinclair’s goals have come in front of his own fans- he has returned 67 of his 89 points at the Liberty Stadium, an average of 6.1 per home game in comparison to 2 on the road. In spite of his woeful away form though, Sinclair, at 6.3, has now crept ahead of Juan Mata in the overall standings and is second only to Michel Vorm for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Nathan Dyer
A goal and assist from the winger continued his recent upturn in attacking output. Dyer, who also picked up the maximum bonus, has now netted in three back-to-back matches for the Welsh club- he scored in the gameweek 20 win away to Villa and also grabbed a goal in last weekend’s FA Cup win at Barnsley. Brendan Rodgers’ side seem to have picked up their attacking threat in recent weeks- that’s 5 goals in their last two league games from GW 20-21, compared to 6 goals in the nine games (GW 11-19) prior to that. They have only two home games (CHE, NOR) in the next six, but are clearly firing on all cylinders as the season starts to unfold and, at 4.7, Dyer certainly looks a more than decent cut-price proposition right now.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
The on-loan Icelandic international wasted little time in announcing himself to the Swansea faithful. On as a sub at half-time, Sigurdsson provided an assist for Danny Graham’s winner just over twenty minutes later and looked at home in Brendan Rodgers’ outfit. Having already played under Rodgers at Reading, he is clearly a player the manager has great faith in – he was immediately in charge of Swansea’s set-pieces and his delivery looking menacing throughout. At just 5.0, he looks set to become a pivotal part of the Swans midfield and looks an enticing Fantasy prospect already.

Danny Graham
The former Watford man is another who is stepping up in performance for Swansea of late. Graham’s winner against the Gunners took his recent returns to 2 goals and an assist in his last three league starts- factor in his FA Cup brace last weekend and it’s clear Graham is on something of a roll just now. With Swansea’s afore-mentioned increased goal threat and a price of only 4.7, Graham will no doubt have appeared on many Fantasy radars with the winter wildcard in full effect. He’s now grabbed 7 goals, all from open play- with 5 of those at the Liberty Stadium and a couple on the road, he’s able to vary his returns a little better than the likes of Sinclair.

GK combo looks good but Lind could be a risk if De Gea can fix himself up.

        Defence looking good.

Midfield could be improved, your taking a risk with having both Sess and Walters then a 5 midfielder. Pick McClean as your 5th and downgrade Simpson to Santos and upgrade Sess to Valencia.

Forwards looking good also, be wary off Sturridge though as Chelsea looked decent without him especially Lampard and Torres. I'd swap him for Ba when he returns.

      Any money in the bank?

I like the look of it, plenty of good Captain options, and as nice and solid as you can get at the back given the limited cash one would want to spend there.

My only (minor) criticism would be that it doesn't perhaps play the fixtures as well as it could. United and Spurs have got tricky runs coming up, and so you might want to think about changing up Nani and Bale for other options for a few weeks with a view to bringing them back in once the fixtures ease for them and bigger points hauls start to flow again?

Yeah looks good to me, I'm not massively keen on Raylor as, despite his assist and bonus this week, is at great risk of rotation. I'd be tempted to have Senderos, Santon & McAuley for Raylor, Caulker & Kelly as Fulham and West Brom rotate very well for the rest of the season.

Looks good other than that - I'm going Crouch as my third striker, but I assume you've considered it and want some Chelsea cover.

    Happy Monday Guys!

I'm on my wildcard now, and was hoping for some constructive feedback:

    Krul - Vorm
    Enrique - Brown - Senderos - Shawcross - Caulker
    Silva - Dempsey - Sessegnon - Walters - Dyer
    RVP - Aguero - Crouch

With 2.5m in the bank to make future tweaks (and bring Ba back in when he returns).

    Thoughts? Comments? Criticisms?

    Thanks!

id rather double up on stoke defence than i would stoke attack. outside of your keepers(same 2 i had before WC), and the stoke attack, our teams are quite similar. See mine above.

      walters-> ramires
Crouch -> somebody. Given his team, manager and fixtures I would be tempted to recommend Bendtner, but because he is after all still Bendtner I will suggest Sturridge/Agbon/Welbeck

Crouch is only a stop gap for the next month, after which he will be out for Ba - I've gone for him as a little treat punt for myself.

Walters has served me well, and Stoke's fixtures are good for a while.

I will look at my options though. Cheers man.

Put Wilko or Simpson in the team over Walker.

With regards to a WC, this team would look good for next week, so I suppose it depends if you can hold tight for 1 week or not.

Best looked decent before Ba came along.

Hughes will surely sort out QPR which will benefit Helguson when Barton and SWP are bringing in those crosses.

My other thought (and trying not to put my Wolves fan bias on this too much) is that Fletcher is Wolves' only true goal threat. Although they don't score frequently, if they do, it will almost certainly be Fletcher, which means 3bps is always a possibility..

        Ok, the reason why I'd choose those 2 is because;
Valencia is in much better form than Nani, he is less frustrating and lately has been the 90 minute man. He should have had 2-3 assists vs Bolton, whereas Nani was almost annonymous.
Richards over R.Taylor (Long-term) as I'd rather double up on City defense than Newcastle.

Valencia had trouble getting in the lineup but I find him more consistent than Nani and Young. He is also more of a threat on the right wing with better crossing than Nani.

Also, Nani might lose his play to Young when he returns, as Sir Alex has confirmed Young is the No. 1 Left Winger.

For what it is worth I believe Nani is the better player because he is capable of HUGE scores and Valencia is not. The key to this game is patience, all the players on top have patience. Nani is proven fantasy talent will score huge from time to time and cancel out Valencia's one or two assists a game

I don't mind people "claiming" that Rooney will lose his assist. No problem at all. If I get 0 pts from my captain this week then so be it.

I do however have a problem with you posting on FFS that you have emailed FPL towers to tell them to remove the Rooney(that you don't even own) assist. There is a big difference. The people at FPL towers know what they are doing. They don't need petty emails from you. They will make the right decision.

You reposted the discussion without being provoked just to try and stir him up. That, and the fact that you'd even bothered to bookmark the discussion in the first place goes to show that you get yourself involved in these stoushes by choice, not as a result of being 'stalked'.

I assume you're playing serious catch up in a mini league? Some risks/differentials there.

        I don't do mini-leagues.

Just want a different team to the masses..

Honestly, I like it 😀 Esp El Nino in there.

Are Smalling & Brown even fit? Richards over Clichy, by a mile.

Very differential I'll give you that.

      GK combo looks good.

Defence looks decent but I'd go with Lescott over Clichy as he is less of a risk.

Midfield you need to downgrade Nani to Valencia. Also try and get in Mata with the funds or Dempsey.

Forwards: Get rid off Ruiz as Dempsey is more off a threat for Fulham. Torres nice punt but still can't see him scoring anytime soon, especially if Sturridge returns.

      Torres, therefore I like. 🙂

Different, and looks good at the same time.

Interesting team. Isn't Ruiz playing reverse OOP, though? At least in some games.

I’m thinking of bringing Kelly (Fulham) in for GW 22.

    Is he nailed on?

What's the situation with the rooney assists? Was expecting them to be taken away? Why hasn't this happened!

Now I'm back from the Swansea game and considerably less drunk than last night, a WC front line of Torres Bent and RVP just as my team moves into the top 50k looks very scary lol.
