David Silva recovers from an ankle problem to help Man City pick up another win. Rio Ferdinand could miss out at the weekend after suffering from concussion, Ryan Taylor has no qualms about playing in central midfield, while Stephen Ireland is finally settling at Villa.

Silva gave his Fantasy owners a significant boost by recovering from an ankle injury in time to take on Wigan last night. The Spaniard set up City’s only goal and his twelfth assist of the season means he has now drawn level with Gareth Bale as top-scoring midfielder in FPL. With Mario Balotelli again absent with an ankle problem, Edin Dzeko led the line once again, joining Sergio Aguero up front. Dzeko’s winner was his first goal since gameweek 11, though it’s clear he is more than capable when given a chance in the starting XI, with 11 goals in 11 starts so far this season.

Micah Richards missed out for City last night with a hamstring problem but Roberto Mancini expects the right-back to be available for next week’s home showdown with Tottenham. Another clean sheet –despite Vincent Kompany also being sidelined due to suspension- means City have conceded a single goal in their last six fixtures and with a strong run of games on the horizon, investment in their defence looks essential. City’s narrow 1-0 win continued their lack of real attacking threat on the road- the league leaders have scored just 3 goals in their last five away games, compared to 15 in their last five at the Etihad.

Reports suggest Rio Ferdinand is an early doubt for Man United’s trip to the Emirates this weekend. The centre-half suffered concussion in last Saturday’s win over Bolton and, post-match, took to twitter to say he couldn‘t remember the game. Ferdinand will be closely monitored and is expected to undergo a series of tests by the club’s medical department before a decision over his availability is made.

Ryan Taylor has admitted he is happy to play anywhere right now for Newcastle. Taylor’s versatility once again saw him change roles for Alan Pardew’s side in Sunday’s win over QPR- starting at right midfield, he moved central after an injury to Yohan Cabaye and admitted yesterday he is comfortable with the position:

It was maybe just a one-off because we lost Yohan early on. There were a couple of replacements on the bench but they didn’t have much experience so I think the manager was prepared to use my experience and versatility. It’s not like I’ve never played in centre midfield before. I played there throughout my youth but you become less familiar with the role. However, if the gaffer wants me to play in any position, I will.

Stephen Ireland reckons Alex McLeish is finally starting to trust in his abilities after a slow start to his Aston Villa career. Ireland struggled to make an impact in the previous regime under Gerard Houllier but is now finally stepping up in performance. Ireland has started the last three games for Villa and has returned 1 goal, 2 assists and 4 bonus points for his Fantasy owners. At 5.6, he’s reasonably priced and offers perfect home and away rotation with Jonathan Walters- given the Stoke man’s poor performances on the road, it makes Ireland a somewhat intriguing prospect. The player said yesterday:

Probably since I first got here I haven’t been given that trust – but I have now. And I’m improving game by game. I’ve just been out of the game so long. Now I’m getting a good run of games and I feel like I’m getting better and much fitter. I’m working as hard as I can and thanks to the gaffer he has been playing me and giving me a run of games. I feel like I’m getting there. I’m going in the right direction and the more football I get it will improve.

Paul Lambert may be forced to dip into the market for a back-up keeper after Declan Rudd was ruled out for up to two months. The Canaries had to draft teenage keeper Jed Steer onto the bench for the trip to West Brom last weekend and Lambert admitted yesterday that he may need more cover, with Rudd set to undergo ankle surgery.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

        Ever since AVB announced one fine day after Lamps missed a penalty.
        Then in order to make up for his missed penalty, Lamps took the one vs City. Also since he was impact sub.
        Then Drog wanted his 150th goal. So he took it ahead of Mata.

        Looks like that trend is going to go on.

    Hmm, can't make my mind up with this one for GW 23:

    A - Vermaelen, Sess and Dempsey (in for Bale), or

    B - Simpson (or 4.6m def), Bale and Dempsey (in for Sess).

    What do people think about Vermaelen? He probably has the biggest goal threat of any defender but is just missing out. Could get some massive hauls when he's back. But sess is on fire, dempseys' fixtures, bale's form....

    All ideas welcome !

          Wont give you a perfect home/home rotation but both pick up points away. So just picking the easiest fixture regardless whether home or away.

    Hi guys, bit of a dilemma.

    Is it crazy to bench Vorm and Richards this week, in favour of Sorenson and N Taylor.

    Looks strange on paper, but the way i see it is N taylor = Vorm and Sorenson having more chance of a cleansheet than Richards.

    Or should Richards' attacking potential outweigh that?

      If Kompany was there, I'd be playing Richards every week as they can shut out against anybody along with his attacking potential, with no Kompany it boils down to his attacking threat, I'd probably rather rely on Vorms save points and Richards attacking potential then N.Taylor and Sorenson if I'm honest.

      That is really funny.

      No one seems to have noticed that when Glen Johnson did that 2 footed tackle, Milner shouted at the ref and showed 2 fingers. Maybe Mancini will mention it next press conference.

      Rooney if you're willing to expend a transfer in 2 weeks.

    For anyone looking at rotating cheap defenders (or midfielders) from Ful, Sto, New, Sun, Swa have you looked at the fixture pile up in GW28. Fulham have the only reasonable game (avl), the others have che, ars, LIV, MCI respectively.

    Could be tricky unless you have 2 solid defs and play a Ful cheapie.

    I've been looking at rotating 4 cheapies if you include Evans in that lot btw.

    On WC this week, I know it's a bad week for it, but had to avoid the Nani/Jones/Jags price drop and also needed to ship out Ade. So here's the first draft:

    Sorensen - Vorm
    Senderos - J Evans - Enrique - R Taylor - BAE (needs to be replaced for £5.9m, suggestions?)
    Dyer - Bale - Silva - Valencia - Sess
    RVP - Sturridge - Aguero

    Thoughts?

      wouldn't say that - but a good player along with several other Swans players...

      Sinclair (obvious - but he's actually very effective in central mid)
      Dyer - Arsene was angry with him on the dive (but he didn't he slipped off the shin of Ramsey!) he should consider him over players like Arshavin and even Walcott!

      Rangel - for me a classy RB... like Enrique very good on the ball but probably only weakness is his pace

            You mean the Theo Walcott who has created a lot of Van Persie' goals?

            Dyer has had two good games in an otherwise poor season. Can't believe you actually think he is good enough to play for Arsenal.

              Arsenal squad is very average - I would be shocked to see them win the league next year.

              Yes Dyer given the current Arsenal squad would make that team stronger.

              I was harsh on Walcott - but he ain't having a great season. For a player rated at probably 25mill, his performances are not up to scratch

              Dyer probably can be picked up at 3-5mill is a bargain with the way he's playing

                  same thing, only a fraction of chelsea games are televised. if he doesn't do anything wrong it's ignored, if he makes a mistake it's 'OMG this guy is sh*t!' and the process rolls over. some playing are good until proven sh*t, others are sh*t until proven good, luiz definitely falls into the latter category

              🙂

              In all seriousness I agree Joe Allen is a pretty good player who is never mentioned, but someone like Koscielny is more underrated imo as the mistakes he make (they are a few admittedly) are highlighted and brought to everyone's attention.

                Key to being a brilliant CB is consistency. You can't be great for 45mins then make a few howlers. When Kos was easily outpaced by Graham on the weekend it was pretty embarrassing. If he were English and called Gary AB would have a mock twitter account set up by now.

                  and no i wouldn't because no one rates luiz. for example the majority of people think cahill will go straight into the chelsea team, therefore they rate him higher than luiz.

                    People think Cahill will go straight into the team because Luiz's playstation controller batteries are on the blink. He's a flair player at CB prone to gaffs, not good. Until Cahill makes a few gaffs (or not) people will obviously want him to play. Also, latest signing syndrome.

                    i had a debate with someone about cahill yesterday. i said:
                    no one ever says what he's good at, or can give examples of things he's done in the past it's just an accepted thing that he's good and we all play along.
                    he then replied:
                    his goal against bolton was amazing. and his goal against everton a few weeks ago was a really nice finish.
                    and that's all he said.
                    i won't explain why the above is relevant, it should be quite obvious. cahill frustrates me as i feel like it's one big party everyone is invited to and i'm not, or something everyone understands but i don't and therefore it frustrates me, i want to understand too, i feel inferior.

                    Not necessarily, I think he will go straight (or almost straight) into the team for other reasons than me rating Cahill much higher.

                    Surely there is a reason why AVB has signed him, and it's hard to ignore the fact that Chelsea have been abysmal defensively so it's pretty likely changes will be tried. We all know JT won't be dropped (even if he's prone to concentration lapses 😉 ), so that leaves Luiz.

                    Re Cahill, what he's good at (and definitely better than Luiz at) is not making silly mistakes. That's a very important quality in a defender.

                    i think cahill was signed as this is the cheapest they can get him (in the summer he'd be free but would be free to go to other clubs too and therefore chelsea risk losing out.
                    signed so in 3 years time when terry conks out they have a 28 year old cahill in his prime to step-in. losing alex chelsea were always going to sign a centre back. cahill is perfect as he knows the league and coming from bolton can accept being a sub, something alex couldn't.
                    the key man in all of this imo is ivanovic. the ivanovic and luiz partnership on the right of defence was looking very solid around november, they strung together about 4 clean sheets in 5 games including champions league but then luiz got injured, and then when he recovered ivanovic got injured. therefore it's been either ivanovic and bosingwa, or bosingwa and luiz. bosingwa and luiz just doesn't work. the luiz and ivanovic pair is such a nice blend and results back this up.

                    Good enough reasoning I suppose. Might hold out on him a few games after all, although he's bound to score in his debut.

                    For the record Bosingwa doesn't really work with anyone. He's probably cost Chelsea more important games than any other player in the Abramovich era

    Is it worth playing the WC for 5 transfers? Was thinking of
    Walker -> Dawson
    Evans -> Gabbidon
    Surman -> Sess
    Rooney -> Bent
    Valencia -> Dempsey

    to leave a team of;
    Vorm - Sorenson
    Dawson Gabbidon Enrique Simpson Senderos
    Silva Bale Walters Sess Dempsey
    Bent RVP Ade

    Hey guys. This is my first post. Thinking of playing my wild card. This is my current team:

    Vorm / Krul

    Kompany / Rtaylor / BAE / J Evans / Neil Taylor

    Nani / Bale / Sinclair / Surman / Reo-Coker

    RVP / Adebayor / Yakubu

    Was going to play my wildcard to get:

    Vorm / Mingolet

    Kompany / Rtaylor / BAE / J Evans / Gabidon (will eventually swap for Caulker)

    Silva / Bale / Sinclair / Sessegnon / ???

    RVP / Fletcher / ???

    I have 14.2mil for a striker and a midfielder. Was thinking of one or more of the following: Dzeko (playing again/ good fixtures) / Helguson (good fixtures) / McClean (cheap / good fixtures) / Walters / Larsson

    Any tips or ideas? I will get Ba / Yakubu once they're back from suspension but that's a while away.

    On my second attempt at my Wild Card and was hoping for some feedback. I know the defence is weak but with the right selections it could prove to be manageable. Would really appreciate your thoughts.

    Krul / Vorm

    Aguero / RVP / Fletcher
