Last week’s posse of bets may have failed to bring home the bacon, but with a fresh note clutched in our determined mitt, we look to pitch our Fantasy thinking against Paddy Power’s odds, in another Flutter.

After a spell of defeats in the run up to Christmas, Stoke have slipped up just once in nine games, and that was a “gimme” at the hands of league leaders City. Although a secreted towel and a long-throw still play a major part in Tony Pulis’ tactics, teams have found ways to counter these methods, forcing Stoke to – whisper it – find quality on the ground. Jon Walters has been at the heart of this, always willing to push up to support the lofty talents of Peter Crouch, his prowess from the spot have seen Walters simmer as a strong mid-price midfield option all season. In the Picks again this week, Paddy post 4/1 on Walters to score and Stoke to gain a cleansheet against visiting West Brom, and thus our weeks tenner is broken, with £2 laid down.

Having missed five games this season, Steven Fletcher has had to work hard to rack up his impressive 81 Fantasy Premier League tally. Fletcher undoubtedly offers exceptional value for FPL managers and punters alike, and Paddy go 100/30 for him to score and Wolves to win against rivals Villa this weekend. Given that Fletcher has proved deadly in the air this term, we prefer to take a punt on him to score with a header at 8/1 for a quid.

Stephane Sessegnon may well be the key to Martin O’Neil’s Sunderland revival. To be fair to Steve Bruce, Sessegnon was performing well enough before he was turfed out, but there’s something about O’Neill that’s squeezed an end product from the lively attacker, to accompany the pace and trickery. Subject to heavy transfer activity in recent weeks, Fantasy managers will expect Sessegnon to feature with either goal or assist as Swansea visit the Black Cats, even though the visitors have put together a strong run of form of late. A Sessegnon goal and assist double at 10/1 is worth a £2 stake.

Our final market revolves around the glitzy world of celebrity Twitterer Joey Barton. The QPR skipper is not quite the Punch and Judy villain that Mario Balotelli has become, but nonetheless, he’s a great entertainer with his antics and indiscretions on and off the pitch. Paddy are tempting us in here with a “will he, won’t he” bet. Barton to avoid a yellow card and get a goal against Wigan is at 5/1. Since he’s racked up 8 cards in 18 games, this would normally be too much of a risk, but new managers can often bring out the best in players and change any leopard’s spots. We may even see Adel Taarabt’s ego humbled with Mark Hughes’ arrival – then again. If you want to firmly back a QPR revival under Hughes, Paddy are offing 14/1 on Barton to score and Rangers to earn the win against the visiting Latics. That’s well worth a sniff and earns our final stake slice.

Money Back Special

Paddy fast forward to Sunday’s big encounters to offer us a pair of Money Back Specials. If four or more goals are scored in City’s clash with Spurs they are refunding all losing first /last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on that match. They’re taking the same stance on the Arsenal vs United clash at the Emirates, so if Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie let loose, you could be line for a refund on your punt.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Has anyone ever purposely Captained a player they know isn't going to play (E.g Kompany this week) and then Vice Captained a proper player just so you have something to enjoy come Monday?

Last season during a GW, I had over 44 points on the bench, I purposely left players in when their match was cancelled due to the snow. I did that so I could enjoy all those points coming in...

But this season, can't risk that lol, what if my VC is injured too

Sturridge - captain, and Fletcher - vice captain. Is that madness? Or, is there anyone else people would captain, out of this lot:

    Sessegnon
    Dempsey
    Valencia
    Bale
    RVP

Right, I rarely post and I've NEVER RMT'd, but I'm going slightly insane with the wildcard. Been at it for a week now 🙁 only 4 changes to my pre wc team in the end. And value lost.

    Vorm / Krul

    Komp / Shawc / Enrique / Simpson / Senderos

    Silva / Bale / Walters / Sess / Valencia

    RVP / Studge / Kun

    2.7 in Bank

    1) I'm concerned with having to bench a mid (Bale this week?)

    2) No Rooney, no Dempsey - Can that be right with fixtures?

3)Defender rotation - ok on paper but seriously?

Any input will be very gratefully received.

      but to answer your questions

      1) Yeah bench Bale, I have both VDV/Bale and I'm benching Bale because I think Mancini will go out to put a stop to him and forget about VDV! Then he will come in and score a sneaky goal

      2) I would have Rooney over Kun but I don't think it matters much, Dempsey is a player you put in to your team and keep him for the whole season (regardless of fixtures)

      3) Yeah looks good

      2) I have that question myself but between Dempsey vs Valencia. Btw, I personally wont regret have no United player for their fixtures.
      3) All 5 are nailed on. I think it's ok. Just GK rotation that I have the same pair but I think they are not best for 2nd half of season.

So, to summarize for everyone, here is my team so far:

    Vorm Lind
Simpson Caulker Senderos Huth Enrique (becomes Kompany next week)
    Silva Bale Valencia Dempsey Dyer
    RVP Aguero Studge

But of course, I'm having Rooney fears. I feel like he's one of the only captains I could feel good about right now. Elnino, even if studge plays, who knows how sharp he will be. Valencia is an option in that team, but I don't know about that either.

So here is the 'fear of Rooney team'

    Vorm Lind
    Simpson Caulker Senderos Huth Kompany
    Silva Bale Walters Dempsey Dyer
    RVP Rooney(becomes Kun...soon) Studge

If I do this, I feel I have to get rid of Enrique right away, because I fear not getting a chance to Kompany later. That means having to go with a defense of huth-Simpson-Senderos this week.....which is kinda lame, but certainly worth it if captain rooney pays off.

But then I wonder if I am overthinking it. That first team is reasonably manageable, easy to change on the fly, and Enrique-Huth-simpson is a fine defensive lineup. Maybe I should just captain Valencia, there, and call it at that.

Rooney's 10 shots from last game just scare me so much: they gotta start going in and Arsenal's defense is really bad right now.

You could go with either of those teams and feel confident. I like the Aguero/Valencia combo over that of Rooney and Walters but for a couple of weeks I think it's worth having Rooney just to see if he sparks. It's an easy shift to Aguero if you change your mind and Walter's fixtures certainly set up well

Yeah....I guess I should give Rooney more than one week, even if I do select him. Maybe I go with the first team's defense and the second one's offense.

The only problem is that I, like you, prefer Valencia/Kun. I just think Rooney will destroy this week, and maybe next, and I don't see anyone else in his realm of captain opportunity this week.

And this without anybody doing a Yakubu.

Hi all.... Busy working week, but on WC. Not a fan of 5 MFs but considering this team.

    Vorm - Krul
    Huth - Senderos - Simpson - Enrique - Skrtel
    Silva - Bale - Dempsey - Walters - Sess.
    RvP - Sturridge - Fletcher

My plan is.. Skrtel > Komp./Rich. and Fletcher > Aguero later.

    Any comment please.

Hi Natt, I took the advice above and got Dempsey / Rooney. Kun in next wk. Hope I won't miss Aguero / Valencia price rises!

Nice team value - you finding it's helped at all? I quite like the Fletcher punt and was hoping for a Skrtl price rise before I shipped him. Ottherwise we have the same team. I echo you about GK's but no way I'm getting rid of Vorm and I couldn't afford them back. Will keep faith for save points in the tough 3 weeks, and one is right at the end.

Thanks ColeHole. I think Valencia should not rise tomorrow yet, but Kun is probably.. 🙁

I think the team value helped but not much as I thought because mid-price MF performed as well as expensive MF. It still help us getting nailed-on DF anyway.

I plan to keep Vorm-Krul until week 27, then probably get Fulham GK to rotate with Vorm. Btw, I'm not sure if Skrtel would rise but hopefully Fletcher will before I shipped him out.

Think I finally did it... Created a team I'm comfortable with for the next few week barring injury. Now my headache is "who to bench" and of course "who to captain"? Here goes -

    Mingolet (Vorm)
    Cahill, J.Enrique, Huth (Raylor, M.Richards)
    Dempsey, Sess, Walters, Valencia, Silva
    RVP (c), Aguero (Sturridge)
    $0 in the bank

So... did I get the subs right for this week? Am I crazy to sub Sturridge?

Not sure I understand why having Sess, Walters, and Sturridge in the same team is crazy. With this team I can minimize transfers over the next 4-5 weeks through smart rotation, and Sunderland/ Stoke/ Chelsea all have favorable fixtures.

+1. same exact thinking. just I have dempsey over valencia. I think it will make for nice rotation and whoever I bench I won't mind having them come off the bench if needed. its just going to be a tough decision who to bench each week, especially this week!

Them all having great fixtures is exactly WHY its a bad idea. You will be forced the bench a good prospect every single week. Meanwhile you could have a cheaper 5th midfielder and use the money to upgrade elsewhere. Yes, that 5th mid can burn you comes times, but you're going to end up missing out on a haul from one of those three if you do this.

I think its a great team and allows you easy rotation and you will have good subs coming off your bench when needed. you could downgrade a defender and upgrade a mid, probably valencia to bale but besides that I dont see what you would do with the extra money by downgrading a defender

    Sorensen (Lindy)

    Richards, Huth, Riise

    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sessegnon

    RVP, Aguero, Sturridge

    (Ward, Santon, Dyer)

last minute WC panic. no one seems to see Riise as a prospect for attacking returns, and think he's too expensive. I can't argue the price is high, but thought he would be good to have for the next 6-8 weeks. I was .

i kept bale in the squad as TOT coverage, knowing though spurs fixtures are not appealing.

so now im wondering about dropping riise for senderos, and dropping bale for gerrard. Would lose .3 on bale.
i dont think its far fetched to think Gerrard's potential is higher for this week. Bale has wigan at home next week, no doubt attractive, but pool away to wolves isnt shabby either. then spurs go to anfield. rather have gerrard there. what say you? oh, and good morning.

Most people seem convinced Sturridge will start? Interesting one this. Although directly in competition, Essien does add another body in the mix that may alter AVB's formation. I think he has to start with his goal scoring record this season although his Xmas form is a concern.

    On WC:
    Vorm (Ruddy)
    BAE - JoseEnrique - Terry - ShawX - (Shotton)
    Bale - Silva - Sess - Dempsey - Walters
    RVP - Graham - (Ade)

    0.7 in bank

    My cup opponent
    Vorm (Westwood)
    BAE - JoseEnrique - Richards - Simpson - (Monk)
    Bale - Silva - Sess - Valencia - (Tiote)
    RVP - Sturridge - (Ade)
    0.0 in bank

Thoughts? Recommendations? Is Sturridge going to take me out? Should I ditch Ade this week as well and upgrade Graham? I know Spurs have rough spot coming up, and that Ade's points have tailed off, but watching them, it's not that Ade hasn't played well (at least from the matches I've seen) I got him back in GW 4, for 8.0, so have ridden him for a long time.
