Mario Balotelli climbs off the bench to seal a last-minute victory for Man City over Spurs. Gareth Bale and David Silva get amongst the points again in a five-goal thriller as the league leaders complete the double over ‘Arry’ s boys. Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck continue to offer cheaper Fantasy alternatives in the United first XI, as Nani and Wayne Rooney fail to fire at the Emirates:

Sergio Aguero
The Argentine was handed the armband by many on the back of strong home form that had seen him fail to return attacking points in just one of his Etihad appearances this term. While Edin Dzeko provided an assist and Mario Balotelli slotted home the last-minute penalty, Aguero drew a surprise blank, leaving his Fantasy owners with just two points. With home games against (FUL, BLA, BOL) in the next five, though, he still looks enticing over the next few gameweeks as a strong captaincy option.

Vincent Kompany
City’s skipper will serve the final match of a four-game ban against Liverpool in the midweek Carling Cup semi-final and his return can’t come soon enough. Roberto Mancini’s side had conceded just four goals at home all season prior to yesterday but, with the Belgian’s replacement Stefan Savic particularly culpable, looked far from secure at the back as Spurs hit two past the league leaders. Kompany has dropped just 0.1 in price since being sidelined but will return in time for the following gameweek, away to Everton on January 31.

David Silva
The City playmaker provided the pass for Samir Nasri to fire home the opener early in the second half, bringing his total of assists to 13 for the season- 5 more than any other player. Silva had previously hit something of a dry spell, failing to return any assists between gameweeks 15-19 but has now provided four assists in his last three games and is a single point clear of Gareth Bale, on 130 points, at the top of the midfielder rankings. With that run of afore-mentioned fixtures just around the corner, Silva, and City, look primed to wreak further havoc.

Gareth Bale
His goal brought the Etihad clash back to 2-2 and continued Bale’s outstanding Fantasy campaign. He has now netted 8 times and bettered last season’s tally of seven and, with eight assists also to his name, is already comfortably ahead of his best-ever Fantasy campaign with sixteen games still to go. A home game with Wigan is up next and, while (liv, NEW, ars, MUN) follows on from the Latics clash, his performance yesterday highlighted just why he’s the one Tottenham player you can ill-afford to neglect, regardless of fixture.

Antonio Valencia
The winger grabbed a goal and assist at the Emirates and once again put Nani in the shade. Since returning to the first-team in gameweek 14, Valencia has outscored Nani by 65 to 56. He has topped Nani’s total in four of the last five gameweeks and with a home clash against Stoke next time round, it’s little wonder we’ve seen his FPL price rise overnight. Even so, currently available for 8.1, in comparison to Nani’s 10.4, Valencia looks a real bargain for United coverage right now, though with Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs to come in the next five gameweeks, United’s schedule is not the easiest.

Danny Welbeck
A third goal in his last four starts continues to highlight Welbeck’s recent promise. While Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez warmed the bench, Welbeck was again chosen to partner Wayne Rooney up top and vindicated his manager’s selection with the late winner. As the weeks go by, he’s looking more like a first-team regular and priced at 6.6, can’t be ignored. Rooney once more failed to get amongst the points- he has now scored or assisted in just six games since the end of gameweek 5, an incredible run of inconsistent form for the 12.0 priced forward.

Anders Lindegaard
David de Gea was benched once again for the trip to Arsenal, with Lindegaard earning his third start in a row- the longest run of games he’s managed this term. That’s five appearances in the United first XI in the last six gameweeks, though, and as the season progresses, he’s looking like he’s got the nod as United’s number one keeper. Granted, it’s impossible to second-guess Sir Alex Ferguson but a look at the stats perhaps back up this line of thinking- Lindegaard has shipped four goals in his eight appearances, an average of 0.5 per game, compared to De Gea’s 17 goals conceded in 14 games, or 1.2 per appearance. At 4.4, he is another promising cut-price option in the United first-team right now.

Jonny Evans
With Rio Ferdinand missing out due to a back problem and Phil Jones subbed off early with suspected ankle ligament damage, Sir Alex Ferguson’s defensive woes show no sign of abating. It’s good news for Evans’ owners, then, with the Irishman recording back-to-back appearances in the heart of defence after recovering from a calf injury. Coming in at a mere 4.5, he’s looking increasingly likely to establish himself as a first-team fixture, as those around of him continue to fall absent. United’s run of fixtures from gameweek 28 onwards look superb and a combination of Evans, Lindegaard and Valencia would currently set you back 17.0, only 5.0 more than Rooney.

The Daily Mail artist's sketch of the start of the Harry Redknapp case is a bit bizarre - it makes him look more like Michael Caine:

OK. This is my lineup for GW 23: 😀
    Vorm
    Skrtel-Richards-Santon
    Valencia-Dempsey-Bale-Silva-Sess
    Fletcher-RVP
    Bench: Krul-Caulker-Crouch-Shotton

1.Should I do a 4 point hit to take out Crouch and put Fletcher on the bench? If so which striker should i put in, I have 8.0M to use
    2. Any other opinions of what I should change?
3.Right to have Bale on captain right?

Not directly FF, but with second WC already used, not much to contemplate FPL wise so more of a thought or two about current situation at the Emirates...

Im not an Arsenal fan, but was stunned like many last night at taking off Ox and brining on Arshavin, and think they would have got a least a draw if that sub had not taken place. Was thinking this morning about how many Arsenal fans seem to have got fed up with Wenger and his continual refusal to strengthen.

Although for this season they are completely out of the title race, and will struggle to get top 4, I still think they have a lot to look forward to. Wilshere is soon to come back from injury, Frimpong was looking excellent for Wolves before he got injured, and despite a dip in form, Ramsey looks like he could be part of quality midfield for them. Once injuries are over, Vermalen and Koscielny looks to be a very good CB pairing.

The real worry is that RVP could well end up leaving in the summer, and they do not have anyone who could come close to replacing him. The Ox could develop into a quality winger, Walcott has not improved enough though which is concerning.

Not all doom and gloom for Arsenal, a potentially very exciting future, but just may to settle for taking yet another couple of years to mount a serious title challenge.

      A first team squad of:
      Chesney
Sagna, Kosc, Verm, Mertersacker, Santos, Gibbs
      Rambo, Song, Wilshere, Arteta
      Gervinho, Walcott, Ox and RVP

Is in theory very good. They just don't have the strength in depth that other top teams do and are much too reliant on one player. You could take Silva, Rooney, Modric, Mata out of the other top teams and they'd still be in a similar position, maybe one or two lower. If Arsenal lose RVP they would be about 5 or 6 lower.

Disagree re Silva, Modric and Mata.
City might get decent results by resting Silva now and then, but if he were out for a while they'd definitely struggle significantly.
Chelsea have been reliant on Mata being their only creative force this season, he was poor vs Norwich and look at the result..theres a reason he starts every game.
For Spurs, you just have to look at the earlier games against the Manchester clubs when he was out of sorts/not playing.
For Rooney, we are yet to see him out for a decent amount of time to be able to tell..

I still think that if you removed all those players then all 3 teams have a number of other plays who are good enough to compensate. I don't think Arsenal have anybody who could compensate for RVP positionally as well. Nasri could fill in for Silva, Huddelstone when fit or even VDV could fill in Modric's role, Nani/Welbeck/Hernandez/Berbatov could all do some sort of a job in Rooney's place.
If Arsenal lost RVP who is going to score your goals? Who is even going to play as the main forward? Gervinho? Chamahkh? Hence why you need a decent back-up striker or at least a winger who could play as a striker.

Little knee-kery much? We still have one of the strongest defences and from GW28/29 our fixtures pick up again. Midfield and Up front their arent many options but i bet we still keep plenty of clean sheets. We did keep one at City only a few days ago.

The defence is good (though Enrique was very poor against Bolton) and I'm sure we'll keep clean sheets. I'm thinking more from a FF perspective to be honest, and in a squad which only allows for one plus-5m defender, there are better options than Liverpool over the coming weeks/months.

I emailed on Friday night and just a an email this morning saying no refund as the gameweek is over. Trust my luck that there is no game tonight or on wednesday.

Apparently even if you do make a mistake like this you can still play your WC before the gameweek and it will cancel out the deductions! Here's what they said:

"It is possible to use your wildcard at any point during the game week, even after completing transfers, to prevent receiving these deductions"

At least I can use it this week and make some changes:

        Walters out Dempsey in
        Morrison out Keane in
Ageuro out 9.2m to replace him

This WC is a pain in the ass. Soo many players i will want in my WC team are going up in price this week, some twice maybe 3 times! Still, i want to hold out till GW24.

my whole plan was to hold.. then i realised why am i holdin on? it's a 10 day gap now so prices will rise like mad as compared to the next week, and all my rivals have already bought those guys in via their WC.. i almost wish i'd played it last week

He's straight in for Drenthe for a one week punt before i WC. I wouldn't pick him on a WC team though, Wenger is wrapping him up. It won't surprise me if he plays the FA Cup match and is benched for the game against Bolton.

Im holding off, just because i want Adebayor this week and don't want him in my WC team. I'll probably have to make a sacrifice like having Mclean or Moses instead of Sess because of price rises, if that is the case then so be it.

Loving the sess points. Just looking atythe Captain poll and rembering some of the comments about him being second of captain poll (was the time) and how stupid it was. We he was my Captain from the minute I saw him destroy the chelsea defnce, but was very unlucky.

Anyway, looking at the other captain options, it was only him and Dempsey who did the busienss. I'm just regretting playing Ramires over Valencia, oh in hindsight.....

If roman abramovich waited an extra year, he would have easily got RVP for £50mill... but now he's stuck with torres. And since he paid £50mill for torres, wenger would be looking for £100mill for rvp.

Discussions like this really never works out. Yes, Torres was probably overpriced but there's no way anyone would buy RVP for 100m. I'm not so sure RVP wants to go to Chelsea anyway, he seems like a very loyal player.
