While the Anfield faithful celebrate their Carling Cup semi-final victory over Man City, the minds of Fantasy football managers have already moved on to more pressing matters.

Following on from their 3-2 aggregate win this evening, we have another blank fixture looming, with the promise of a double Gameweek to come.

Prior to this evening, Liverpool were set to play host to rivals Everton in Gameweek 26, on Saturday February 25. However, with a trip to Wembley to face Cardiff in the final on the Sunday now secured, this league fixture will be postponed.

As a result, Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures (wlv, TOT, mun, blank, ARS) tell a fairly grim tale, while their Merseyside rivals have an equally unappealing slate ahead of them (MCY wig, CHE, blank, qpr).

The flipside of this, of course, is that this fixture will need to be rearranged and will undoubtedly, at some point, give both of these teams a double Gameweek. It’s now down to the Premier League to find the most appropriate date to reschedule the clash.

For now, we can only really speculate when the double Gameweek will fall. With both sides uninvolved in European competitions, there will certainly be many midweek slots available. We will, of course, share the news of the rescheduled fixture as soon as word breaks.

While the Carling Cup has made the impact on the Merseyside, the FA Cup will likely be the major factor behind all impending double Gameweeks this season. With such a tight schedule ahead of the European Championship, fixture congestion awaits.

Every FA Cup game from the quarter-finals, through to the Wembley showpiece, will take place on a Premier League weekend. The last eight of the competition will be contested in Gameweek 29, so we can expect plenty more rescheduling and double Gameweeks to arrive for the sides who make it through the next two rounds and beyond.

I read somewhere he might be back, but I won't put money on it. He still needs to play on Sunday(probably the evening).

I'm more interested in the fact that he will most probably be back for Villa(h). Two games earlier than I anticipated.

Na, going with Sturridge RVP and Dzeko(!) then will look to get him in from GW26 onwards. If he doesn't play against Villa in GW24 then GW25 would be a tough game.

It'll be tough to decide whether to get rid of Dzeko or Sturridge though!

Am I mad to consider 3 City defenders for GW24-28? Reasons:

    1. There are lots of cheap strikers on display during these City’s so called “awesome run of fixtures” – BZ, Studge (Gw25-28), Ba, Helguson (or other QPR bargains that Hughes might get). No real need for Kun/Dzeko. Same with mids.

    2. But I can’t find decent options for defenders. Stoke will be back in Europa & are lazy defenders against weaker oppositions. Fulham can only attack or defend at a time (as shown vs newcastle). Enrique has a week taken off him, else I’d keep. No solid options at all.

it could be but he seems to miss around 1 in 5 games (havent checked stats so may be wrong) and if i invested that amount in a defender for such a short space off time n he missed a game thatd really piss me off

if u r happy to take that risk id say go with it

i only didnt due to the stoke/fulham rotation

Sorry to spoil the party but only doubling for me and no Kun/ Dzeko. The captain issue is gonna be problem in GW 26-7 but I will go with Silva who is decent, not explosive but decent. And I analyzed the fixtures for Sturridge and Ba in the same time they are great so we have alternatives.

And how are you gonna solve the captaincy issue in those Bla, Bol games? RVP and Utd have tough fixtures in that time

I would rather captain RVP than captain Silva TBH. No reason why he can't do well against them.

Also I'm not confident about Mancini's rotation policy. They have 2 Europa games between gw25 & 26. That has me worried to a certain extent.

Do you not think Mancini could rotate that week?

He could in midfield and the full backs. He doesn't have many options in attack. Maybe Kun could not play 90 min but he will surely start in the PL which is priority atm

Silva is an extremely consistent player. While his returns will hardly ever be explosive, many including me truly believe that he is a season keeper. As for Aguero/Dzeko, if you have alternative strikers in mind, then go ahead cause their returns will vary. So I had suggest 2 defenders - Kompany + Richards (if you can afford both). Any other defender is subject to rotation, and even Richards like Tosey mentioned successfully manages to injure himself on a frequent basis. So if I was definitely sure on the cleansheets coming, I would actually go for Kompany and Joe Hart. But since everyone has a goalkeeping combo they are happy with, I don't see that happening for many people.

Forgive me, if I sound like a hypocrite when I mention the three players I have- Richards, Silva, Aguero.
Aguero was never in my plans but the Yak's shitty red card along with a lack of confidence in Mata compelled me to get him along with McClean ( For McClean, you convinced me by the way.) Sadly I benched McClean this week. :
Taking a transfer hit to change to - Hart, Kompany, Silva is not gonna happen. But if there is even the slightest rumor of an injury to richards, I will trade him with Kompany. So I am looking at Kompany, Silva, Aguero.
The worst thing that can happen with your defenders is that the team gets a clean sheet and your defender did not not turn up for the match. That just sucks and to avoid that mental itch is worth a hit only. It's all in the mind, isn't it??? 😀

Dear fantasy gods what have you done to us?

Is Nani/ Silva to Osman worth a 4 point hit? Is Baines worth 2 m more than Jags. Hibbert got a BP previous game. T Cahill anyone? Will Donovan be eligible to play for the double? Will Moyes start Drenthe? RMT Howard ..... etc.

    Ohh noooo, not againnnn!!!! 🙁

Well I brought Baines, Hibbert and Osman for the double. The later 2 got me 2 pts in total. And I sold Ba who got 12pts against Utd. Nightmare really. I thought that I have WC very soon so I could gamble. Yeah right!!! 🙁

Why would you say that? It did not pan out for them in the immediate week, or even the week after but it got great returns for many this week. A lot of wc's got dempsey, sess, mcClean in and it really paid off this week.

By the last one, I thought Christina meant wc not double gw.

Btw even the double gw paid off for me. Some 84 pts that week and since I had a saved up transfer I got rid of the two everton players next week. And then followed on.

Yeah, I'm talking double gw. What I'm saying is I started getting in EVE players in advance...Baines....Drenthe....got rid of them prior to the actual Double. LOL

Lots were unlucky with Hibbert/Jags/Osman/Galls injuries in the first of the double gw fixtures. I scored 81pts and was just lucky with BAE.

Gotta look at fixtures prior and post double gw and have lots of luck. There is always another player not having a double that will outscore the player having a double.

I concede, You are absolutely correct.

Looking at fixtures prior and post is a must. But last gw qualified as a good gw precisely because of that. Everton and Tottenham had a superb run of fixtures and the double gw was just a cherry on the top.

Usually if the fixtures don't add up, all I do is get that just one double gw player and give him the armband.

Nope, We haven't even got a chance to see how he evaluates the Europa League. And it's just 3 days after that, so rotation is clearly important.

Look at the Champions League ? Aguero has been rested once in the PL and that was over Christmas, he was benched in the CL rather than the Premier League so I don't see why the Europa league would change that

Hey don't forget that in the first 2 gw's for the CL he had the option of tevez. Secondly look at the number of minutes aguero has played, Only since Dec has he been playing 90 mins. So when I say rotation, I don't mean not playing a single minute of the game, playing 50 or 60 minutes too counts as a consequence of rotation.

I don't know what's happened to him, he's probably just sleeping offside somewhere. He just isn't getting the starts. Maybe he's not performing in training? I dunno 🙁

I am gutted, cause I thing the Hernandez Rooney combo can be devastating to say the least.

He hasn't been right since his early season injuries and with Welbeck taking his chance I guess Fergie is rewarding Welbeck with his positive displays. Thats why Fergie is the master at keeping people happy!

im unsure whether to get him for that week or wait until gwk26

he has AVL, tot which isnt that easy

i know hes fixture-proof but holding off until after spurs away is an option to see how they line-up
