Jack Wilshere suffers a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury. Alan Pardew admits he is unsure whether Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse will play at Blackburn next midweek, Frank Lampard is out of Chelsea’s FA Cup game with QPR and Chris Samba takes Blackburn’s owners to task as he looks for a way out of Ewood Park:

Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier this afternoon that Jack Wilshere has suffered a setback in training. The midfielder has yet to play for Arsenal this season but had been on course to return from an ankle injury next month. While The Guardian claimed earlier today that Wilshere could be at risk for the season, Wenger refused to scaremonger, saying only:

Wilshere had a little setback. We don’t know how bad it is. I can’t give you any news on Jack because I could be wrong.

The Gunners boss also revealed that Bacary Sagna may return after long-term absence this weekend, with Mikel Arteta and Thierry Henry also standing a good chance of making the Villa game.

Andre Villas-Boas admitted Chelsea will be without Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel for their FA Cup game with QPR. Lampard has failed to recover from a calf injury picked up against Norwich last weekend, though the Blues boss is hopeful he will be ready for the midweek trip to Swansea.

Alan Pardew’s Thursday press conference centred mainly on Senegal’s exit in the African Cup of Nations. With Newcastle front pair Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse both flying home on Monday after their country’s final group game against Libya on Sunday night, there’s a possibility one or both could be ready to face Blackburn on Wednesday evening. Fantasy managers have already been drafting in the strike duo since Senegal’s omission. Over 8,000 have transferred in Ba, the fourth highest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player to date this season, while new signing Cisse, who was priced at 7.0 by FPL yesterday, has attracted just over 200 in comparison. Though Pardew admitted he was delighted to have them back, he was cagey over their prospects of appearing at Ewood Park:

It’s not as simple as them playing at Blackburn. We have to contact Senegal and they might want the squad to fly back together or whatever. I really don’t know what the chances are, I really could not put a percentage on it. But the plus side is they are coming back to Newcastle early and they will definitely be involved against Aston Villa. Cissé has literally only had eight hours here. He has to get used to that number nine shirt.

Sir Alex Ferguson remained vague over Man United’s injury situation this morning. Speaking ahead of the weekend FA Cup trip to Liverpool, Ferguson revealed no specifics, much to the frustration on Fantasy owners of Nani and Phil Jones- both have been reported as being possible absentees for the next few weeks. The United boss failed to elaborate on reports that Wayne Rooney hasn’t trained all week and would only say:

I can’t give you much of an update on injuries. Hopefully we’ll have two or three training this morning and we’ll be better by tomorrow. It is not the best situation for us.

Chris Samba has hit out at Blackburn’s owners Venkys as he tries to engineer a move away from Ewood Park. The Rovers skipper has already seen a transfer request turned down this month and with four more days left before the January window closes, a furious Samba has lashed out at those in charge, as he continues to look for a way out:

Blackburn need players who are 100% for the club — and I’m not. The only way to solve this is for them to let me go. It will be very difficult for me to play for this team again. I’m at the end of the road here. I’m not going to change so, for their good and mine, they must sell me now. I’ve got nothing against the manager. It’s not like he’s been given £100million to spend, he’s trying to do the best he can with what he has. This is between me and the owners. It’s personal.

Marc Tierney is available for Norwich’s FA Cup trip to West Brom. The left-back has missed his side’s last five league games due to a groin injury but looks set to return to the first-team for the Hawthorns showdown this weekend, according to Paul Lambert. Tierney had previously started every one of the Canaries’ first eighteen gameweeks.

Nicklas Bendtner is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks with facial injuries. The Sunderland forward was taken off early in last Saturday’s game against Swansea after receiving an accidental kick to the face by Angel Rangel and with Martin O’Neill admitting the Dane’s injuries are worse than initially anticipated, it affords the like of Connor Wickham, Ji Dong-won and fit-again Fraizer Campbell a first-team opportunity up front for the Black Cats:

He’s got a bit more than a broken nose. It’s difficult to put a timescale on it, but it’s going to be lengthy. We thought at one stage he might be okay. The early signs, even on Sunday morning, were that it looked as if it might be okay. But he’s going to be out for a number of weeks now, which is definitely a blow to us. He has a few cracks and we just have to bide our time with that. That’s a big blow to us and to the lad himself, who was beginning to enjoy a decent spell of football for us.

Steve Sidwell has recovered from a knock that forced him off in Fulham’s 5-2 win over Newcastle last weekend and is available for the FA Cup game with Everton. Moussa Dembele misses out after failing to recover from a hip injury, while the club’s official website has revealed both Orlando Sa and Mark Schwarzer are “a week or so†away from returning to action. Schwarzer’s return will, of course, be of particular significance- the Australian has failed to feature since the end of gameweek 15 but is expected to reclaim his spot between the sticks from David Stockdale as soon as he is fit.

David Moyes is set to be without the majority of his injured players for the Cottagers clash. First-choice centre-halves Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka are still sidelined, meaning Shane Duffy is likely to continue alongside Johnny Heitinga in the heart of the back-four. Leon Osman, Seamus Coleman and Jack Rodwell are all still out, while Ross Barkley continued his comeback from a knee problem with a midweek run-out for the Toffees youth team. One piece of good news for Moyes is the return of Tony Hibbert at right-back.

1 is obviously better but will five you weekly headaches on who to bench. Whether that is the best option really depends on how severely it affects your GK/Def.

      I'm going:

      Silva/Bale/Dempsey/Sessegnon/McClean
      Aguero/RVP/6.7

Will likely downgrade Sessegnon to bring Ba in in a couple of weeks.

      Money left

      1) 0.4
      2) 1.0 with Valencia, 1.4 with Dempsey instead of Valencia
      3) -0.7 taken out of defence

      I personally have 1.

I think benching Dempsey/Sess/Dzeko works out not to bad over the next 8 GW's or so.

Bound to get it wrong once or twice, but prefer it to getting rid of a player such as Ba/Dempsey who could score big.

My defence seems pretty good with it too.

      Lindegaard, Krul
Richards, Huth, J Evans, Taiwo, Kelly

      With some money to spare.

I know it's generic, but don't want to get rid of players just for the sake of being different. I'm a realist, I'm not going to win the whole thing, a good performance and winning my mini leagues is number one priority.

Aguero 157 transfers out today, Dzeko 382 in. I would like that trend to escalate and continue. I would imagine the 157 out probably swapped for Dzeko to free up funds. Could be wrong but I think they might regret that.

I can see myself either breathing a sigh of relief...or a desperate last minute switch of captaincy from Bale to RVP and transferring in Ageuro for Rooney....all at the crucial time of reading my kids their bed time stories.

I'm sorry son, there's no Gruffalo tonight, Daddy's trying to find out from twitter whether Wayne Rooney is playing or not.

This gives me an idea for a feature....embarrassing fantasy football addiction stories.

Shuffling the team during surgery would be the ultimate, as would during the birth of your child....especially if a woman.

how about house in on fire, storm back in to rescue kids and whatever valuables you can quickly acquire, but on your way stop at your still working laptop and set your bench and captain quickly

Keith this is where you really want to be on Twitter, if you follow the right people it's the best place to get early team sheets. Like Jonty said though it's rarely anymore than an hour before kick-off.

If you come on here though, beware of evil Demi....

look out for good Demi though...he's the king of the team sheets. Evil Demi14 is very naughty though.

A good way of being secure in the knowledge is to follow all the prem teams....most will post the official team sheet around 45 mins before kick off. Sometimes you get some journos in the know.

Very good, but you are missing United-coverage in front.
Maybe Aguero to Dzeko and Moses to Valencia.
But if you dont want to do that, I certainly think you should get in McClean in for Moses.

Depends on whether I do press it this week or next. If this then I'd probably agree with that with Stoke this week for Man U and 2/3 away for City however from next week with 3/4 at home for City I'd want Aguero.
Oh and Moses has better fixtures and better rotation with Swansea.
        Cheers for the comments.

Nice team, Mac. I'd rather have Clichy/Richards/Lescott over Vermaelen, for a tad bit cheaper too. Who are you going to rotate Taiwo with? I'd get Kelly instead of Jevans and find an upgrade for one of your cheaper mids.

I'm not excited about Ziggy btw. Too much competition for gametime in that CM spot with Britton nailing down one spot.

pretty content on the front 8. ade will most likely leave after this week for demba.

have been shuffling the back 7 constantly..
recently took out enrique for huth - considering huth vs enriques next 4-5 games.
also concerned about caulker.. i have about 4.2 to spend so it could be someone else too

    KOMPANY or RICHARDS?

    Kompany
    - plays every damn game
    - concedes a goal every 121st minute

    Richards
    - has been rotated, but not after gw7 apparently
    - seems to have a hamstring problem
    - concedes a goal every 102nd minute
    - 0.2 saved
    - attacks more?
    - slightly less ownership

Apparently someone posted some stats the other day saying that "Komp doesn't attack as much as Richards" is a myth, with stats backing them up.

Its true...just checked. Both have very high shot on goal figures for defenders....Richards has only marginally more shots on goal, but more of Kompany's are on target.

        Sup that was me.
It's not that he doesn't attack as much but that his attacking of a different kind.
Kompany is a better defender so more likely to get BPs out of clean sheets and looks likely to score from set pieces.
Richards bombs it up the wing and puts crosses and through balls but he's had a very high chance conversion rate so far this season - you would expect this to dip slightly in the second half of the season so his assists may diminish.

          Nice analysis, Mac.

In that case, Richards is almost equivalent to Clichy in my eyes. We aren't expecting many assists, might as well go for the cheaper player and be content with the clean sheets for the same kind of nailed-on-ness.

Actually if you look at the stats Clichy has seriously underperformed so far this season in terms of points. He could be a great pick for the rest of the season if you fancied taking the rotation risk.

You really think clichy is more nailed on then Richards? I gotta disagree. Richards only seems to sit when he is injured. Clichy has sat healthy in GWs 16 and 19. Ricahrds much more nailed on, imo.

If you want to call it lucky, cool. When I settled on my WC team, he and RVP were the only logical choices. Besides Bale, he had the highest form on my squad. That's more of a logical choice then just luck.

              Hello Newman!

Never said Clichy's more nailed-on. Said they're pretty much "same." Why? Kolarov has looked really out of order whilst defending this year. Doubt Mancini would risk him in a PL game. There's Europa to experiment with him, imo.

Also, if you notice, they end up playing the same amount of gametime due to Richards injury scares & problems - look at his injury record (doesn't look promising to me).

Enlino its not Kolarov you have to worry about.....its Zabaletta: he is the one who started in week 16 and 19 instead of Clichy.

Sure, Richards has injury problems, but you cant ASSUME he will get hurt (look at Van Persie) The fact is, when they are both healthy, Richards doesnt get rotated, and Clichy does.

Still, Richards is carrying way too much of an injury risk this season.

I'd prefer Kompany due to the solid starts and bp potential as well as surprising goal threat.

i have Richards, however, and am happy with him. Moving him to Kompany is way too sideways.

In short Kompany marginally swings it but both great options.

Can someone give a quick explanation as how our players value rises.

E.g. I have Walters for a long time and to sell him give me 6.3 yet to buy him would cost 6.7

you get 50% of any price rises, thus you get 0.1 if he goes up 0.2, so if he buys at 6.7 and you bought at 6.2 you would have 6.4 selling price

His last one was excellent about predicting striker form and those that have over and under achieved so far.

Yeah, you can really read into his articles who he likes to do well.

However, his argument that VDV will score similarly to Bale, and that Mata is anything but a bust is kinda crazy to me.

He really likes the concept of differentials, whereas I think its ridiculous.

Its not a bad team, but I just don't get taking a hit when you have the January WC to use next week. The only thing you could want with it next week is to get another city defender....so just do it now! They'll get a cleanie against Everton for sure.

I don't know about the Mcclean/Moses strategy. I just don't like the idea of rotating two cheapies. I know you're just doing it for this week if you WC next week, but still.

If I'm you, I wildcard now. Is there really anyone you DONT want this week that you will want next week?

Well I got Mata out even before Nani's injury to catch Demp's rise. Thought it would be handy if I had to pull the WC trigger. Then took a hit due to Nani's injury & Sess could be a handful vs NOR with this form, imo.

There's quite a few I wouldn't want next week - Given; Walker, Enrique, Shotton; Sess, one of Moses/McClean; possibly Studge. Also if I hang on, I could get Ba straightaway in gw24.

                    So.
Pending no more injuries, you think I can hang in there yeah? WC in GW24?

You CAN hang in there, but I wouldn't. I know you were kinda forced to take the hit, but I could NEVER take a hit in January with the WC in my pocket. If I'm you I wildcard now, and just get Ba next week if he isn't ready. In fact, if you WC now, you can see if he will be ready this week.

gary gardner one to keep a distant eye on. odds are he probably only started last game due to an injury to ireland but he's got a serious eye for goal for a 4.5mil player, confident enough saying that just based on a couple of U21 games and a brief loan spell at coventry.
if there was a watchlist for your watchlist i'd put him on that, alongside the likes of kerim frei

tbh Ireland is the one I'm keeping my eye on for the FA Cup and QPR game. If he's back to the form he had a City 3 or so years ago he'd be a superbly cheap differential. For me too many doubts about the minutes of other players in that price range bar Barton and SWP.

well that's the issue, but he does have a goal and 2 assists in his last 3. Any other suggestions. Have 6.6 to fill my last spot, but I need someone who has decent fixtures, is in form (or coming into form) rotates well with McLean (which Ireland does after GW27).

Fair enough. We all have blind spots. For one, Leighton Baines is currently on my roster [with a one way ticket out]. A player I promised myself I'd never buy this year - 8.0. But the double game week and penalty duty clouded my judgment just a few weeks ago. Guilty as charged.

Modric has had decent spells. This is probably his worst FPL year, he is just playing too deep.

Yes that was one of the strangest games I've watched in recent memory. Fulham were played off the pitch in the first half. Don't know what JOL said at halftime, but it worked. (Tactics worked too - took off Ruiz at 45.) Anyway - Newcastle had the possession and momentum first half and FUL couldn't do anything. As a Dempsey owner, I wasn't happy. But the second half was ludicrous. Don't think Dempsey will ever attain those heights again in the Premier League (hat trick - 20 point fantasy outing) for the remainder of his career so it was certainly nice for his owners on his greatest day ever.

hence why you should never pass comment until FT. When Liverpool played Fulham my rival was on COD with some guys from work bragging about how his Enrique CS was gonna move him past me and start him on the road to success. 1 minute later Fulham scored, Enrique got booked and he went from 6 points down to 1 😳

    krul/lindy
    kompany huth kelly simpson caulker
    silva valencia bale dempsey mclean
    rvp aguero adebayor

pretty content on the front 8. ade will most likely leave after this week for demba.

have been shuffling the back 7 constantly..
recently took out enrique for huth – considering huth vs enriques next 4-5 games.
also concerned about caulker.. i have about 4.2 to spend so it could be someone else too

was also considering replacing simpson with santon.. is santon as nailed on as simpson.. both are 4.2 for me i think.
