Spurs miss the influence of Gareth Bale but drag themselves into the fifth round courtesy of a Rafael Van der Vaart strike. Everton also progress, as Landon Donovan inspires a comeback following another Danny Murphy spot-kick.

Landon Donovan
The on-loan American provide the quality that unlocked the Fulham defence, supplying two quality crosses which were converted by the heads of Denis Stracqualursi and Marouane Fellaini to give the Toffees the victory. Donaovan was a constant menace to the visitors down the right-flank and, in addition to his supply of key passes, also clocked up a number of goal attempts to emphasise his growing confidence and importance to the Everton cause. Sadly, his loan spell sees him depart Merseyside at the end of February and Everton’s fixtures in this remaining spell are not favourable, with City and Chelsea the visitors to Goodison. Even at just 7.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Donovan is a gamble, although that also makes him a ready-made differential.

Marouanne Fellaini
David Moyes is looking to maximise the goal threat from the Belgian, with talk of pushing his height and power into the impotent Everton attack before last night’s cup tie. While Moyes elected to start with Stracqualursi, supported by Tim Cahill, it was Fellaini who motored forward to provide the finish to Donovan’s delivery. Available for 6.1 in the FPL, we should monitor his progress as a goal threat in the coming weeks – having scored eight strikes in his first Premier League season, Fellaini could yet provide some value should Moyes unlock his ability to get into goalscoring situations and feed on the supply from Donovan and Leighton Baines.

Philippe Senderos
Martin Jol elected to bring Aaron Hughes into his starting lineup, dropping Senderos to the bench. Fantasy managers have been turning their attention to Senderos in recent weeks, having seen the Swiss defender establish himself alongside Brede Hangeland. At 4.3 in the FPL, he remains a worthy target, although last night’s team selection will cause concern. The fact that Fulham conceded two headers from crosses won’t bode well for Hughes’ chances of retaining his start, however. The general consensus appears to be that Senderos was rested, along with Bobby Zamora, and we should expect both to be on the teamsheet for the home clash with West Brom on Wednesday.

Rafael Van der Vaart
His 25-yard effort provided the one slither of quality from a drab Spurs performance at Vicarage Road, as Harry Redknapp’s side stumbled into the fourth round. Van der Vaart, playing behind a failing attack of Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, struck before half-time, his second goal in his last 14 appearances in all competitions. That spell has seen the Dutchman notch just once in 12 league showings, a return that has seen his Fantasy ownership dwindle as Gareth Bale’s continued to deliver as a cheaper alternative.

Gareth Bale
Bale was kept out of the action last night, with Redknapp stating he was carrying a slight thigh strain sustained in training. Fantasy managers will be uneasy about the prospect of Bale missing Tuesday’s potentially profitable clash with Wigan on Tuesday but, in all likelihood, Bale’s absence was a precaution, with Redknapp sounding optimistic on the injury…

He picked it up in training two days before the match. He felt it a bit but it’s not too bad.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

a lot of people have a 1 sided view of evra-suarez incident
evra was also racist but wasnt charged despite being derogoratory over suarez nationality
also i posted a video a couple months back where he calls 2 players the n word but all the comments suggested it was fine because he was black
i think this plus the genuine rivalry between the teams plus the fact evra has falsely accused a player of being racist before all adds to the booing

A United team without their two best/most creative offensive players.

Liverpool's strategy all year has been to win 1-0. This is as weak as they will ever see United this year, and they still can't keep them out.

Too bad Kenny disagrees with you. Adam never starts when Gerrard does. Lucas and Johnson I'll give you. Bellamy is not at every week player: he has been benched a lot since returning. Henderson returns all the time, as has Carrol: they are both more 'first team' then Bellamy and Adam. Granted, I think Kenny is daft for that, but thems the facts.

Johnson and Lucas are losses, but compared to Jones, Vidic, Rooney, and Nani, its not even close to compare the two.

O come on, there's a big difference between who Pool are missing and who United are missing.

United are missing key creative threats who will always be in their first 11. Liverpool are just missing players that they haven't decided should be first team anyway.

The exception of course being Lucas, who I have a lot of respect for.

Lucas and Vidic can cancel each other out.

Nani and Rooney missing for Man U
Liverpool without Suarez, Bellamy, Kuyt and Adam.

If I humor your belief in Nani and Rooney, then Man u are without their creativity.
Liverpool are without any cutting edge in attack whatsoever. 3 first choice strikers are out! Sure they are not great players but that is still a massive loss. Also Adam adds some weight to the midfield.

Bellamy Kuyt and Adam are not in their first team. Bellamy has found himself on the bench quite a lot lately. Adam never plays when Gerrard does. Kuyt can't even get a snif most weeks. I'll do you one further: I'll say those three SHOULD be in Pools first team. But this year has shown that they rarely are.

For those looking for a 1 week punt midfielder......

Oxlade-Chamberlain- After a brilliant performance agianst United, using his pace, skill and agility to trouble the defence all game he's already become the dark horse for Capello's Euro 2012 squad. With Arshavin(£8.4) off form, Ox may keep his place until Ivorian Gervinho(£8.9m) returns from ACON and at £5.9m the Ox could be a steal.
    Next 6- BOL(A),BLA(H),SUN(A),TOT(H),LIV(A),NEW(H).

Ireland- Claiming he's built a strong relationship with Mcleish, Ireland(£5.6) has been under the watchful eye of many Fantasy Managers. But keeping his place hasn't been easy after strong performances from both Clark(£4.7) and Petrov(£5.8) keeping him out the side. But if he starts to play like he did at City and if he peakes form the Mcleish won't think twice about playing him.
    Next 6- QPR(H),NEW(A),MC(H),WIG(A),BLA(A),FUL(H).

Milner- With Yaya Toure(£7.6m) at ACON Milner has had a decent run in the City side including a goal against Liverpool. He looks set to keep his place in the City side for there decent run of fixtures which include Fulham, Blackburn and Bolton coming to the Etihad he could prove a good alternative to David Silva(£10.4m).
    Next 6- EVE(A),FUL(H),AV(A),BLA(H),BOL(H),SWA(A).

Ramires- The Brazilian has been much more than a box-to-box midfielder this season racking up 4 goals including a brace against Swansea. He has also played on the wing for a few games under AVB and looks like a better option at £7.0m compared to his Spanish companion Juan Mata(£9.7) and Englishman Frank Lampard(£11.1m).
    Next 6- SWA(A),MU(H),EVE(A),BOL(H),WBA(A),STO(H).

Etherington- The pacey Stoke Winger has offered decent returns this season with 82 points so far this season. Playing in all but 3 of Stoke's 22 games this season he could also have penalties under his wing after Walters missed against West Brom. His price £6.5m is slightly cheaper than Walters(£6.7m).
    Next 6- MU(A),SUN(H),FUL(A),SWA(H),NOR(H),CHE(A).

Giggs- With both Nani(£10.3m) and Young(£9.6m) out the Welshman looks set to play the next few games and with Rooney(£12.0m) also a doubt this could hand over most of the set-pieces to the Welshmam.
    Next 6- STO(H),CHE(A),LIV(H),NOR(A),TOT(A),WBA(H).

    Sorry if I missed anyone.

If it's 1 week his next 6 shouldn't really matter though should they?
Ireland or the Ox out of those, definitely not Etherington or Ramires.

      Decent post.

I think McClean is an absolute bargain at 4.5, as is Ben Arfa if he gets a strong run in (but that looks very unlikely with Pardew's love for Raylor)

These two have been in most of the WC teams over the past few weeks and aren't much of a differential on here anymore.

    Good halfs viewing

Dea Gea is dodgy, so Lindegaard looking good

Man U defensively suspect in the air, definitely playing Huth as third defender on Tuesday

just what I was after PT, but not sure if Giggs will play on Sunday having started today. Am sure the Ox is 5.7 though. Wouldn't say Etherington is a good punt for this week either

I'd prefer VDV, can't afford him however. It's not a transfer I need to make, so I may save my transfer. Tempting, though.

I think Harry might rest Bale vs Wigan as well. If you can't beat Wigan at home without Bale then it says a lot about Spurs credentials.

    Scholes is running this game.

Reports in the papers today linking Ballack with a move to Old Trafford. Scholes, Giggs, Ballack midfield anyone. Combined age of 106?

No, there's a report on Man Utd being interested in Ballack on "Caught Offside", which like Footybunker has never predicted anything accurately in my lifetime.

Ballack has fallen out with everyone at Bayer Leverkusen, and may well leave in this transfer window (though more likely in the summer), and his most likely destination will be the USA or Canada - but not Manchester.
