We started with 2,216 fantasy managers all hoping to qualify for the first round of the Paddy Power Cup V, and now we are down to the final two. It’s Funkyav versus sleepingmaster battling it out in Gameweek 23 for the coveted prize. Here’s how they reached the Grand Final…

Finalist No.1 – Funkyav (1,754th in the world)

Funkyav breezed into the first round after qualifying in 290th place with a score of 71. That set-up a tie against Fartak Moscow, where he edged to a three-point victory (59 – 56). He close to elimination in round three, beating jonnygs11 by just a single-point (89 – 88). There was breathing space in the third and fourth rounds however, with wins against Bruceters Millions (60 – 53) and Flussig (63 – 53) respectively. Funkyav’s second scare came in the fifth round, after another single-point victory, this time against Parks (71 – 70). cobbler68 was his sixth round opponent, and 54 – 46 was the result.

In his Last 16 tie, Funkyav notched an emphatic 14-point battering of Bruce Baer (45 – 31), and followed that up with his third flirt with defeat in a nail-biting 54 – 53 match with Sc8tt26. His final act of incredible form was seeing off Raasclart 37 – 26 in the final four.

Finalist No.2 – sleepingmaster (59,659th in the world)

A strong start saw sleepingmaster score 74 in the qualifying round, placing him in the top 10% and in 199th place. He made tough work in the first round, squeezing past hodgson87 36 – 32. Next up were hilary_briss, who succumbed 74 – 66 in the second and Dino, who was dispatched 63 – 52 in the third. His second eleven-point win came in the very next round, beating PM XI 63 – 52. Two five-point wins followed, first against stefoaks (57 – 52) in the fifth, and then agaisnt Dyslexia United (46 – 41) in the sixth.

VereWinner was sleepingmaster’s Last 16 foe, with the finalist prevailing 41 – 34. He then sailed into the Semi-Finals with a 17-point thumping of CSKA Awful (54 – 37), before sealing his spot in the Grand Final with a 48 – 41 disposal of ChickenDevil.

If you pit Funkyav and sleepingmaster‘s weekly scores together, it’s 7 – 2 to the higher-ranked Funkyav (with two of those ‘wins’ coming by way of overall rank).

Also going head-to-head this week are those Semi-Final left-overs, ChickenDevil and Raasclart, fighting it out for 3rd place.

Here’s a reminder of what they are competing for…

  • Winner – £150 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – £75 worth of free bets. £30 Amazon Voucher
  • 3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £20 Amazon Voucher

So, good luck to all four fantasy managers participating in the final stage of the Paddy Power Cup V!

Super serious WC front 8 question:

Q1 (not considering money, just who will score more):
Bale (spurs main dangerman) or Dempsey (nice fixtures + decent threat)

    Q2:
    Aguero + Ba + Dempsey/Bale + cheapo (bench)
    or
Dzeko + Ba + Dempsey + Bale (nobody to bench)

I have 8.9m to spend on a striker. Already have RVP and Aguero.

Would a Lindegaard/Kenny goalkeeper combination be unnecessarily risky or decent pick for a wildcard team. I expect QPR to improve but they could sign a new keeper last minute? any fans know if kenny is certain to play out the remainder of the season? I've limited myself to 4.5 max for each keeper, and am fairly set on Lindegaard so other suggestions much appreciated, thanks

    Another Corrigan Riddle.

If you owned Senderos and Sorensen.

    Would you:

    a) leave them as they are
    b) spend a FT on buying Lindegaard
    c) spend a FT on buying JEvans
    d) spend 2 FTs on buying JEvans and Lindegaard, but prevent easy access to a Utd striker in doing so

    Thank you

I have a simples question....although Im finding it hard to answer

    My midfield is :
    Dempsey valancia Mata bale mclean

Is it worth going for oxlaide-chamberlain for a week or two instead of Mata.

Arsenal have bolton and blackburn in the next two games.

    Vorm
    BAE Enrique Richards
    Valencia Silva Bale Dyer
    Sturridge RVP(C) Adebayor

Given Walters Simpson Shotton 2.4 in bank, 1 FT left

What is my best option for a one week punt before I WC?

Cheap defenders repost for those on a WC....

Senderos- Priced at £4.3m the Swiss looks like a bargain given Fulham’s kind run of fixtures. He seems to be more nailed on than his Fulham companion Stephen Kelly(£3.9m) and shows attacking potential from set-pieces.
    Next 6- WBA(H),MC(A),STO(H),QPR(A),WOL(H),AV(A).

Taiwo- The Nigerian defender on loan for the rest of the season has arrived at a price of £4.5m and shows more attacking potential that most full-backs. But he faces competition from A.Traore(£5.5m) for the Left-Back spot. With QPR also recruiting Onuoha(£4.6m) and possibly Blackburn rebel Samba(£5.4m) the QPR defence is uncertain.
    Next 6- AV(A),WOL(H),BLA(A),FUL(H),EVE(H),BOL(A).

Caulker- Swansea man Steven Caulker has caught the eye after returing from injury at only £3.9m,later rising to £4.0m. Caulker has played all 90 minutes in the Swans last 8 games except from the Spurs game in which he was Ineligible. The only risk is that many Fantasy Managers won’t want to double up on Swansea defence with both Caulker and Vorm(£5.2) during a difficult time fixture wise for the Swans.
    Next 6- CHE(H),WBA(A),NOR(H),STO(A),WIG(A),MC(H).

Santon- The Italian has managed to do the unthinkable and keep set-piece dangerman Ryan Taylor(£5.4m) out of the side. Santon has also look dangerous with his overlapping runs from the left and has assist potential and with Simpson now at £4.4m many have swiched to the Italian to save that £0.2m.
    Next 6- BLA(A),AV(H),TOT(A),WOL(H),SUN(H),ARS(A).

McAuley- Showing some decent performances during the winter period, including the Clean Sheet at home to Man City McAuley has shown his true potential. Priced at £4.1m and somedecent fixtures coming up he’s certainly one to consider.
    Next 6- FUL(A),SWA(H),WOL(A),SUN(H),CHE(H),MU(A).

Shotton- After Jermain Pennant falling out with Tony Pulis the Defender has played on the Wing for a few games and also played at Right-Back. With the defender having good home fixtures coming up and being able to play in many different positions he provides a cheap way into the Stoke defence.

J.Evans- After the recent injury crisis the United man has become a key figure in the United backline. The Northern-Irishman is set to keep his place in the long term with Vidic out for the rest of he season and Ferdinand(£6.4m) and Jones(£6.5m) both doubtful. Priced at £4.5m you can't go wrong with United coverage for that small price.

Clark- Clark has come into the spotlight after playing the last few games. He has become more involved in play and picked up an Assist and Bonus Point in the Villa vs Wolves game. He's set to keep his place in midfield after injuries to Delph,Jenas and Herd and keeping Bannan(£4.5) out of the side.

Question. Have we always had the "£" next to player values in the transfer page or is it a new feature

So lot's of RMWCT tonight, so here's my attempt. The usual selection of common players, with £2,1m in teh bank:

    Lindegaard, Vorm
    Turner, Simpson, Kompany, Tate, AFerdinand
    Dempsey, Bale, Sess, McClean, Silva
    Welbeck, Aguero, RVP

    Turner = Wes injured
    Tate = Benchwarmer
    Ferdinand = differential
McClean & Sess - to swap one out once bandwagon's settle
Welbeck - until Ba/Cisse/Zamora choice becomes clearer

    Thoughts?

Looking to finalise my wildcard defence.
    At the moment it's:

    Lindy, ?????
    Cahill, Evans, Santon, Senderos, Kompany

    1. Who rotates well with Lindy?
    2. Is the defence okay? Any other options worth considering?

Good defence, could maybe ship out Evans for Bardsley/Taiwo

        Hmm.
If I go for Krul, I'd probably want someone other than Santon as my 5th defender.
Sunderland could be the way to go...
