A couple of spot-kicks from Robin Van Persie helps Arsenal overcome a stubborn Aston Villa. Darren Bent continues his recent good form with another goal at the Emirates, James McClean impresses for Sunderland again, and Fraizer Campbell grabs a goal on his first-team return:

Fraizer Campbell
The former Man United man made an instant impact on his return to first-team action yesterday. Campbell had been sidelined with cruciate ligament damage since August 2010 but found the net within a quarter of an hour of his second-half sub appearance to draw Sunderland level with Middlesboro. With Nicklas Bendtner sidelined with facial injuries, Martin O’Neill had started Connor Wickham alongside Stephane Sessegnon but, after failing to make an impact, Wickham made way for Campbell at the break. O’Neill will no doubt continue to ease the latter back into action, given his length of absence; a sub appearance against Norwich on Wednesday looks more likely than a start.

James McClean
The winger continued his recent run of form with a strong display against Middlesboro. With a goal, assist and eight bonus points in his four starts under O’Neill, McClean is growing in Fantasy ownership by the day; over 9,000 managers have transferred him in this week. Priced at 4.5, he looks more nailed-on as the weeks go by and yesterday saw him offer further example of his ability, as a laid on a superb assist for Campbell’s goal to ensure the visitors were denied victory.

Wes Brown
The centre-half had only just returned to the first-team last week after a groin injury but lasted only an hour at the Stadium of Light. Though Brown landed awkwardly on his shoulder after a challenge, reports indicate he has injured his knee, with The Guardian suggesting suspected ligament damage. If Brown is sidelined for any length of time, the Fantasy prospects of Michael Turner could take a turn for the good. With Titus Bramble also absent due to an Achilles problem, 4.2 Turner looks set to partner John O’Shea in the heart of the back-four. Elsewhere on the injury front yesterday, Lee Cattermole missed out due to a hamstring problem. Craig Gardner was drafted in, sitting alongside David Vaughan in central midfield, with Kieran Richardson fielded at left-back.

Robin Van Persie
The Gunners captain fired his team into the Fifth Round with a brace from the penalty spot as Arsenal completed a memorable second half comeback. Two down at the break, the home side turned the deficit around in a seven-minute period early in the second half, and will arrive at Bolton in buoyant mood on Wednesday after a Van Persie inspired victory. Post-match, Villa boss Alex McLeish called on the FA to investigate the Dutchman, after a stray elbow from Van Persie seems to catch Carlos Cuellar in the face.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
The youngster started out wide again for Arsenal, deputising in Gervinho’s absence at the African Cup of Nations. Although he didn’t play a part in any of the Gunners’ goals, Oxlade-Chamberlain impressed and was only removed in the eighty-ninth minute for Thierry Henry, as the latter returned from a calf problem. The former Southampton man looks a good bet to continue in the first XI on Wednesday, with Henry likely to be eased further into action at the Reebok.

Bacary Sagna
Similar to Henry, the right-back also made a brief sub appearance, coming on for Theo Walcott as the final whistle approached. Sagna’s return will be a significant boost to Arsene Wenger; he’s been unavailable since breaking an ankle at Spurs back in gameweek 7, more or less a four-month absence, with the likes of Johan Djourou and Francis Coquelin struggling to step up in his absence. Mikel Arteta also climbed off the subs bench to complete his own recovery; the Spaniard had missed his side’s last two league games with a calf problem but came on midway through the second half, as Arsenal’s injury worries start to lessen.

Darren Bent
The Villa forward has been attracting some steady Fantasy interest of late after netting in three of his last four league games. Bent continued his goalscoring form, firing Villa’s second just before the break, as the visitors shocked the Emirates. Although Arsenal ultimately prevailed, Bent’s confidence will be high and with Robbie Keane’s good form continuing – the Irishman provided an assist for the opener- Villa look good for goals ahead of the home clash with QPR on Wednesday.

    Was really hoping Valencia wouldn't rise tonight, but looks like it's pretty much certain, so I have a decision to make. My current WC team:

    Linde / Krul
    Richards / Evans / Simpson / Naylor / Taiwo
    Silva / Bale / Dempsey / Sess / Dyer
    Ade (Ageuro in GW24) / Ba / RVP

    I'm thinking I should switch Dyer > McLean, and Sess > Valencia to cover MU against Stoke. Thoughts?

      Sess is probably only good to go for this gameweek and you'd have cover with McClean anyway so... yeah I'd do it.

        Yep I think I will do it tonight... but will cry myself to sleep tomorrow if a) Valencia gets rested and / or b) Sess goes nuts.

    why i love this site:

    further up the page, some poor chap posted his team, asking for advice/comments. no one responds, and he follows up with a reply of "anyone please!!" desperate for help, still no reply.

    directly below that is a post that asks "is it madness to eat soap and talk to your toaster?"

    this post attracted over a dozen replies.

    Brilliant:)

    All this 'generic midfield' malarky means that it's probably the wrong midfield. I think Sess' boat has sailed, but Dempsey's will probably stay in harbour for another gameweek or two. I can't see Sess, Demp, and Valenica continuing their current for for much longer. Therefore, I shan't be having them in my WC next week...OK, I might have one of them, but not 2 or 3.

      I agree on Sess due to fixtures, but Dempsey has some great home games up to GW31 if you don't mind benching him for the few tough away games. Valencia, if he keeps his place, is an absolute bargain even with MU's fixtures. They will still score goals.

      Yeah I switched Sess out for Demps this week. Still not certain about doing it as I don't have the cash to go back now, but gotta take a risk sometimes and fixtures say Demps is the better bet.

    REPOST - Bottom of last page

    Guys…

    Like a lot of people here – waiting on news of Mr Rooney. I already have Roonpig, RVP and Aguero (in Midfield Silva, Bale, Sess, McClean, Dempsey)…so would I be stupid if I went for one of these – and which one?

    a: Roonpig -> Bent
    b: Roonpig -> Welbeck
    c: Roonpig -> Adebayor
    d: Roonpig -> Henandez
    e: Roonpig -> Zamora
    f: Roonpig -> Ba
    g: Roonpig -> Cisse

      bent: no guarantee that he is mr. consistent again, abd keane is overshadowing him
      welbeck: rotation risk for fun
      ade: thats him being a lot of himself, excellent start and then slowly fades away
      chicha: welbeck is starting these days
      zamora: good.....but for how long? after all he is known as a form player
      ba: might not be there on time
      cisse: havnt trained with the team yet, not once, and might not be there on time

      I'm in the same boat, but having looked at the fixtures and the players, I'm not so sure that there are that many options for a worthwhile punt as Sturridge could obviosuly still do well.

      Welbeck could be an option,but it wouldn't surprise me if he got a rest after leading the line on his own at Anfield, plus the fact that Rooney may be back, and both Berbatov and Hernandez are due a run out.

      Other possible: Zamora?

    For those who have Rooney and want to switch, I would advise you to wait for team line ups as Berbatov could be starting and he can score more than wellbeck. Especially at OT. Although wellbeck look safest, berba could pocket you a big GW score if he starts.

    I'll be glad when tomorrows games come and I don't have to tinker with my wildcard anymore!

    Now deciding between Moses and Dempsey. Sounds like an odd choice, but at the end of the day I can rotate Moses and McClean as I'm unlikely to ever want to bench

    Silva, Valencia, Bale, Aguero, RVP or Ba.

    It also means I can have Huth instead of Taiwo and Hangeland instead of Senderos and suddenly my defence looks so much nicer with a bit of money spent. So the team would look like this

    Krul Lindegaard

    Hangeland Kompany Huth Evans Simpson

    Silva Bale Valencia Moses McClean

    Aguero RVP Ba

    What do we think? If I go for Dempsey then its the same team but Senderos and Taiwo instead of Huth and Hangeland.

      whoever u play at the back, u will consistently see CS sitting on ur bench

      the point of having a defender with attacking potential is that u always play him regardless of fixtures (huth hangeland)
      having a top defending team defender is that u play him based on fixtures (simpson)
      and a top six team defender is because he can get clean sheet any week (evans kompany)

      just hate to see u blaming ur luck on this site week after week.

          I've said this before - no idea why people are waiting for so long to WC. If it's to wait for the transfer window to close, then i think it's for the wrong reason. Really, so what if Wigan ends up with some "never heard of before Argentinian striker"?

          If your team is in dire straits due to injuries or there are some juicy fixtures then yes. I'm happy i did it when i did, even though i sold Formica that week(he scored0 and bought Yak(red card).My only regret was selling Silva for Nani.

          Elnino - I don't like you having Sess & Mclean. Get Walters in for sess and bench this week. If you WC now I'd sell Enrigue. Get silva and BK in there. Sell walker. Given. Nooooo! I'm not sold on Stud either.

            You're right, Christina! It wasn't for the transfer window

            My main reasons were:
            1) I was initially set up for this week, with Nani (C) to be unleashed and the defenders & GKs all set. I was just going to do Mata > Dempsey but Nani had to get INJURED.
            2) I wanted to hear on the return of Demba Ba, which has been kinda successful. Also figure out if Cahill was nailed-on, which I doubt I'd be able to figure out.
            3) Still believe Studge is a serious bargain, so wanted to give him time after his injury.

            All was well, except Nani getting injured.

      Yep plenty do, I myself think it's dangerous as you're struggling if Aguero starts firing (assuming you'll always have Silva). I wouldn't want to be 2 transfers away from Aguero if becomes a must have.

      Yep. I've been advocating this for a few weeks now. I think doubling up on the City defence will prove to be better value than having Aguero. I think there's at least 3/4 clean sheets for City in the next 6/7 games.

    Can I ask what are people expecting from Taiwo? CS, assists, goals?

    Ive seen him a few times for Marseille and his free kicks are just hammer shots. Buszaky/Barton should command most free kicks. While for assists, somebody has to put them away and at the moment Bothroyd, DJ and Macheda(assume helg injured) are the strikers.

    Although if he plays LM, he will have more chances to put crosses in. Plus he is only 4.5 which is similar to Anton price.

      Assists and/or goals with perhaps the odd bonus cleanie.

        Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Don't want to hit that WC yet so the more help to my squad the better. That and he's gonna bang in 4 tomorrow. Obviously. Ja see my Santon Q a page back? Just wondering if the .2 for Simps is worth it given that I'm doing it to have a cheapie.

          Well I will be getting Santon in my Wildcard side, looks fairly nailed on now and doesnt half like to wander forwards.
          Should be a reasonable pick, but he is pretty prone to injuries.

            Nah nice one that's enough for me. Cheap players are a gamble anyway so I'd rather have the .2 to play with. Santon it is. Get through these next few weeks with a handy haul of points and you must seriously be thinking of some sort of European football Til. There's nothing to suggest ye can't carry on. Bar the hammering there last week 🙂

    Vorm & Kenny for GK Rotation?

    They have home games all the way from now till GW38, with ~70% against mid-table/weaker teams. I think I'm sold.

      I much prefer having Hart then switching to Reina to be honest with a 3.9 keeper to be honest.
