Managers the length and breath of the country are frantically trying to free up funds and strike some last-minute deals to improve their squads. It’s also Deadline Day in the Premier League, so tread extra carefully as the 7.30pm Gameweek 23 Fantasy Premier League deadline approaches.

The Matchday Surgery chatroom is open, so venture in and ask your fellow fantasy managers for help and advice.

You’ve got plenty of other resources to call upon of course, such as the Scout Picks – a selection of players we’re tipping to do well this week, the Team News – complete with predicted line-ups for all the midweek Premier League games, and if you’re feeling particularly lucky/desperate there’s the Differentials – for those not-so-popular players we think might just deliver this week.

    Dear FPL,
    It has come to my attention that transfers have been made after the 7.30pm deadline.
    As per your rules, I hope you reverse these transfers as it gave an unfair advantage to those that were so silly to wait so late.. :O)

    reckon this would've been a heck of a tough game for De Gea against Stoke, with all their big men off setpieces. He would have struggled big time tonight i reckon, stoke lads are pretty physical in the box. fergie is smart!

    Hi all, not sure this is the best time with all the other activity here at the moment but there seems to be some interest in Dempsey’s performances with and without Zamora this season so I’ve done a little analysis:

    With Zamora
    Played 14 | avg PPI 15 | avg points 5.5

    Without Zamora
    Played 8 | avg PPI 7.5 | avg points 4.8

    At first glance this would suggest that Zamora’s presence has a positive influence on Dempsey’s returns but this isn’t quite fair as the balance of home/away fixtures is uneven - Zamora has played a lot more at Craven Cottage than on the road. Breaking the figures down into home and away gives the following:

    With Zamora
    Home 9 | avg PPI 19 | avg points 6.3
    Away 5 | avg PPI 7 | avg points 4

    Without Zamora
    Home 2 | avg PPI 20.5 | avg points 7.5
    Away 6 | avg PPI 3.2 | avg points 3.8

    Based on the above, if Zamora had played every game it could be expected that Dempsey would have managed 114 points (287 PPI) but if he had missed every game the projected figures are that Dempsey would now have 125 points (260 PPI).

    Essentially, with or without Zamora, Dempsey has performed well so there’s no reason for people to sell on the basis of Zamora’s move to QPR. Of course, it’s always dangerous to assume a direct causal link from such limited data and clearly there are other factors I haven’t gone into (difficulty of opponent, other player absences, etc.) but food for thought perhaps?
