With Newcastle’s decision to appeal the recent FA charge against Yohan Cabaye, the availability of the midfield maestro was not entirely clear. However, the regulatory commission met on Wednesday and confirmed the original decision, handed out for a “kick out” at the Brighton defender Adam El-Abd, resulting in a three match ban that began last night with the Gameweek 23 fixture at Blackburn. Cabaye will now also miss the next two games against Aston Villa at home and Tottenham away.

Also falling foul of the disciplinary panjandrums this week was Chelsea’s ever-present left back, Ashley Cole. Having already been booked just before the interval of Tuesday’s clash with Swansea for a barge into Gylfi Sigurðsson, Cole was dismissed with a second yellow dished out after a scything challenge on Nathan Dyer. The resulting one match ban means he will miss the weekend fixture with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea now forced to field an alternative left-back for the first time in 65 premier league games.

There were a few choice names manoeuvring themselves onto the tightrope radar in midweek, with Cole’s Chelsea team-mate, Raul Meireles, picking up his seventh domestic yellow of a season where Chelsea lead the way for disciplinary points, and Stoke’s Robert Huth adding to his already impressive haul of cautions this season. The Tuesday night card was his twelfth in all competitions, and seventh in domestic play. Trumping them both however, was Blackburn’s Jason Lowe, who despite only committing 16 fouls in the league this season (by contrast, Norwich captain Grant Holt has 54), is the first to accrue nine yellow cards from league and cup. Lowe, Huth and Meireles can now all be found moving up a place on the suspension tightrope widget, while a list of the banned players for the gameweek 24 weekend is below.

GAMEWEEK 24 BANS

  • Yakubu (BLA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (last of 3 matches)
  • Ashley Cole (CHE) – 1 Red for 2 Yellows (1 match)
  • Mario Balotelli (MCI) – FA Charge (third of 4 matches)
  • Yohan Cabaye (NEW) – FA Charge (second of 3 matches)
  • Karl Henry (WOL) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 3 matches)

Please Criticise my team the best you can, rip it to shreds if you have to really need the help. I am 8 pounds behind the leader of my money mini-league. Thanks in advance to those than can help !! Next week I plan to transfer Cahill or Welbeck out.

    Mignolet
    Richards, Evans, Santon
    Valencia, Sessegnon, Silva, Bale
    Welbeck, RVP (C), Aguero (V)

    Subs: Bodan, Dempsey, Cahill, Kelly.

After Man City losing to Everton they will want to shut down Fulham and make a point. Dempsey is great but now the City defense is back to its best.

Nomar who shall I bench instead then? Welbeck seems the only option but I see him knicking a goal.

Why Bogdan? IMO, he's only an option if you're going with someone like Hart. Not the biggest fan of Cahill but suit yourself I suppose. I like the Welbeck pick...considering him myself.

    Hi guys,

Which sub should I make this week? 0.1 in bank, team below:

    Vorm (Lindegaard)
    Smalling, Richards, Williamson (Caulker, Shotton)
    Dempsey, Valencia, Sessegnon, Bale, Silva
    RVP(c), Aguero (vc) (Sturridge)

    A) Ba in for Sturridge, and start Ba instead of Sessegnon/Valencia/Dempsey
    B) Santon in for Shotton, and start Santon instead of Smalling (doubling up on Newcastle)
    C) Save transfer
    D) Evans in for Smalling, look to upgrade Shotton following week

    cheers!

Got 2 free transfers and not sure what to do with them.
Figure i might aswell get rid of Cahill until he starts playing.

Any suggestions? Thinking about these. All 3 will also free up some cash so i can get Ba in for Fletcher ina week or 2

    1. Cahill > J Evans (not great fixtures)
    2. Cahill > Taiwo (great fixtures but QPR dont get many clean sheets)
    3.Cahill and Huth> Wilkinson and R Taylor

      Taiwo looked good last night.

QPR defence will be better especially at homeand once Hughes has had them training together for a week or so.

Last night half of our back four had never played together before so surprising that we conceded a few and looked nervy at times.

Hughes is known for putting good defenses together so I think it will gel in a week or so and you'll see some cleanies.

    "panjandrums"
The only other place I have heard this phrase is in my favourite film - The Man Who Would Be King, great stuff Anorak.

In other news, I ballsed up the posting of my wildcard side in two ways - firstly by putting it at the bottom of the page and secondly by a Freudian slip - typing Rooney instead of RVP. Maybe the Gods are trying to tell me something. Anyway here it is in all its glory:

    ____Krul___Mignolet____

    _Santon_Bardsley_Kompany_Evans_Taiwo_

    _Bale_Valencia_Silva_Moses_Barton_

    __Aguero__Ba__RVP___

I like that side. I know Barton is a risk, but for the run of nice QPR fixtures he might do well now that he has decent enough strikers to aim his set pieces at. Disappointed that I have to compromise and miss out on Vermaelen, but I’ll bring him in for Kompany GW28 ish when the fixtures swing.

Very tempted by Pizarro, but no idea if he will go straight into the first team. If he does then 6.5 could be a good bargain.

looks good mate. Problem with Barton is that i cant see him either exploding or being overly consistent? He'll get you a goal every now again, and the odd assist, but when he's at home to Fulham and you need him to do something he'll get a yellow and 1 point. But i suppose that's no different to lots of other mid-rangers.
      love the rest

I may be in the minority here but I like the Barton pick - nearly always nailed on, good fixtures as you say (Doosra would disagree!), and set pieces. Do you reckon he's on penalties as well now with Helguson's spot under more of a rotation threat? 8 yellows though but you know that already.

guys i'm throwing jordi gomez out there as a 5th mid over moses. same price as moses at 4.8mil and is officially the cheapest penalty taker in fpl, that for a wigan side who have won the most penalties this season. i thought beausejour could threaten him but beausejour played 90 v tottenham and gomez still started, when diame is back i can just see a simple watson out, diame in switch to return to their pre-ACON lineup. you could see him as your wigan walters.
also i'm fairly sure wigan have diverted away from their 3 cb formation where moses was playing as a genuine striker.

Captain choice this week killed me.

Obviously with hindsight Bale was the better option but before the gameweek I feel I made the right choice. My thinking was RVP is the most consistent player on the game, Bolton have one of the worst defences in the league, RVP on pens and Bale an injury doubt. This was my logic but I got stung big time.

I just went with the flow to much and stuck by the rule that RVP provides... Last week was an exception to the rule. We now need to bring in the hypothesis to always captain one of the super 5 midfielders: Dempsey, Bale, Sess, Silva, Valencia.
