Leaping like a sixteen stone salmon, Robert Huth is the scourge of 18-yard boxes the length and breadth of the land. Equally terrifying at both ends of the pitch, Huth’s aerial despotism has long ensured that he is as much “on” Stoke’s set-pieces as whoever happens to have the honour of hoofing the ball in his general direction.

The top scoring defender in the Premier League last term, Huth’s six goals were augmented by three assists, eight clean sheets and fourteen bonus points. Amassing 138 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points from a starting price of 5.0,  it was no surprise when he was unhesitatingly elected to our team-of-the-season. With the Potters’ defensive parsimony a proverbial constant, and their attacking prosperity ever predicated on set-plays, a price hike to 6.0 this time round seemed unlikely to present a significant impediment to would-be investors.

Three clean sheets in the first four games seemed to forecast a business-as-usual campaign for Tony Pulis’ men, but with new arrivals Matthew Upson and Jonathan Woodgate now competing for centre-back spots a formerly settled defensive line began to betray an uncharacteristic uncertainty. A long clean sheet drought saw Pulis’ protracted search for a solution assuming the character of a rotational merry-go-round, and Huth often found himself out on a limb at full-back or even, at times, on the bench.

The restoration of last season’s centre-back pairing of Ryan Shawcross and Huth has applied a much needed prophylactic to Stoke’s unusually profligate campaign. The re-galvanised Potters have secured two clean sheets in their last six, and a goal and an assist last weekend in the FA cup saw man-of-the-match Huth back to his imperious best in the opposing penalty area.

Three home games in the next four make Stoke’s upcoming run an inviting proposition (SUN ful SWA NOR), and a January sale price of 5.6 seems eminently reasonable for a player boasting a strong record in both attack and defence. With the threat of rotation hanging ominously over Stoke’s budget defensive options, Shawcross represents the only other safe choice in the Potters’ back line, but priced at 5.1 and offering little competition to Huth in terms of attacking threat, a saving of 0.5 may well be a false economy.

With more attempts on goal in the last six games than the rest of the Potters’ defence combined, and the prospects for clean sheets never remote at the Brittania, Huth may offer the strongest value in the Stoke side over the coming weeks.

Really can't understand the appeal of Huth myself. £5.6m is steep for any defender, nevermind a Stoke guy. He has an attacking threat but he's only scored once this season. Add to that Stoke are still in the FA cup and Europa league.
Compared to Sorensen who for £4.4m offers a safe cheap route into the Stoke defence. Add to that Begovic plays all Stokes cup matches it just seems a no brainer.

He's a mid-priced lottery ticket. Probably not worth the money but with the great budget options like Evans/Enrique/Simpson you have to spend the money somewhere.

Hi guys first post here, need some opinions please?
    Krul,linde
    Richards, verm, Kelly, shotton, walker
    Silva, Walt, demp, valencia, mclean
    Rvp, dzecko, ade

0 in bank and only 1 FT this week.
    Would you do:
    A) walker - taiwo
    B) ade - ba/zamora
    C) both of the above for a hit?

I know shifting needs upgrading too but prob not as pressing right?
Ade is killing me, bought at 8.1 but sick of the 2pt returns + bad fixtures coming would u give him 1 more week?

    Hi guys,

I'm a suarezoholic. I had Suarez on my team week in week out until his ban. I always promised to my self my family, that next week I sell him. But it always happened. Suarez delivered me nothing, but I was like: He hit a post, he created so many places... I know, they were all excuses...

But now, after 36 days without Suarez, I'm hearing him calling to buy him back. Is this ever gonna stop?

It's always useless to speak afterwards, but If I've changed from Suarez to Ba in time I'd be in top places. I saw VP right, I saw VDV right, I saw Bale... but thanks to Suarez I'm only top 9k.

The problem is that I have this generic team with Sess bardsley huth + richards and dempsey. And if I play them all without getting some attacking returns for my defenders I will atleast blank 2 of my players.
    So I got a big selection problem…
    Krul
Simpson richards (+ barsley huth senderos)
    Bale silva (+moses dempsey sess)
    Aguero Van persie Zamora/ba
play bardsley huth moses and hope for the 0-0 in Stoke vs Sunderland… Feels a bit insane to bench sess or dempsey for moses and barsley. Would really appriciete some input

    Gday everyone.
Im in somewhat of a crisis. My squad is:

    Krul, Lindy
    BAE, Senderos, Santon, Brown, Evans
    Silva, Bale, McClean, Dempsey, Pilkington
    Aguero, RVP, Berbatov

I only have 1 FT this week altho do have 3.3m in the bank.
Brown and Berbatov need to go. I think i can endure Lindy's absence.

I'd do Brown this week if you don't want to take a hit.

Pilkington is at home to Bolton so, if Berbs doesn't play, you get him in as first sub.

Your defence isn't great this week. BAE (liv), Send (mci), and Evans (che) all look unlikely to keep a CS. Only Santon looks a good bet defensively if Brown's out.

Sunderland's home games (which I assume is when he is likely to get played) are against the 'top' teams so I am not investing in their defence. I could be proved wrong. Plus you already have Mign. If you wish to keep the New/Sun double, then I would ditch Kelly if money allows.

    Enrique and Ox-Chamberlain
    or
    Caulker and Sessegnon

    - Would only get £5.6m for Enrique so slightly reluctant to sell. Also think Ox is a sneaky punt but it could easily work against me.
    - Really want Sessegnon, he's impossible to ignore lately, especially with Bendtner missing.

The rollercoaster of FF never ceases to amaze me

I start Vorm and bench Krul, my main mini league rival starts Lindegard and benches Krul (and starts Simpson). We both have Bale and RvP but he captains Gareth and I captain Robin

Lindegard injured and Vorm looks like keeping a cleanie against Chelsea - I laugh

Vorm concedes a last minute own goal - I cry

Bale scores two - minorly annoyed but expect RvP to at least do somthing of note

    Newcastle concede a penalty - I laugh

Krul saves penalty - I cry

Arsenal looking in early stages as if they are going to beat Bolton about six nil - I laugh

RvP hits the woodwork twice and has one cleared off the line - I cry

    Not good

This is true, but Man Utd + difficult fixtures > QPR + easy fixtures, and I can't afford Ba. Other alternatives are Crouch, Zamora/Cisse, Jelavic and co

Not really sure about playtime for Zamora and Cisse if Helguson is back.
It's not a proven thing. Ba will get straight into the squad when fit. Tough one. But I'd prefer Ba.

who did you pick for strikers Crouch, did you get Ba or, did you go Cisse or Zamora?

Would love Ba, but would have to sacrifice one of Dempsey, Evans or Schwarzer to get him

    1FT + 0.7m in bank

    Sorensen (Vorm)
Evans - Huth - Simpson (Enrique , Senderos)
    Valencia - silva - Sessegnon - Dempsey - Bale
    Aguero - RVP (Sturridge)

    Choices
    1) Enrique > Kompany and play him instead of Evans
    2) Sturridge > Ba .. Play Ba and bench Dempsey

I got basicly the same problems as you do. But also have barsley in the mix. I am thinking of sturr-> zamora then if Ba seems great swap him next week. Bench for dempsey for me...
But why not bench sess aswell? Gonna blank huth + Sor or sess....

Have Ba in on WC but may change to Zamora or D. Cisse for, as you say, a couple of weeks. Not going to take any risk of Ba being on bench but my sense is that he will start.

I'm doubt with Ba too. Btw, fatigue wise, I think he played very little in the tournament. It shouldn't impact him much IMO. NUFC also miss Cabaye and Tiote too. Btw, Zamora should need time to gel with his new team also... Umm.

not sure, he did score and Hughes says he was impressed. I currently have him and Clint, am monitoring the Ba situation, it could all go wrong, these mid-season tournys have a habit of doing that, look at Cahill, and we don't know the impact of Cisse yet, plus I think I'd rather have a QPR striker than a Newcastle one next 2 games, then re-asses.

I think Cahill and Australia went to very deep round or even final round of the tournament and that caused fatigue. But Ba's team went out of the first round of tournament and so I think it might impact less on Ba.

Btw, I agree that QPR's fronts are more preferable for investment too.

Am in the same dilemma. Atm have no Ba and have Djibril. But if Pards indicates Ba will start which I expect him to it may come down to a choice between Dempsey or Ba. Ba has 15 goals to Clint's 10, but goals are worth more from mids, and I do worry about Ba's output post ACON and alongside Cisse.

But, no thanks, is all I can say for any Stoke player. They are a BIG BIG mistake imo. Lazy defenders against non Top 6 oppositions and on top of that they have 2 Europa + 1 FA Cup game between GW 25 & 26. The party pooper is going to predict 0 CS in the next 4.

      I quite like it.

Huth > Evans fo sho. Doubling up on Sun defence is way overkill imo. Bardsley > Kelly/Senderos to rotate with Taiwo.

I'd get rid of Dzeko honestly. He was at max 2 games left in him, both of which is he isn't nailed-on after they failed to score a goal vs depleted Everton. Can you afford Kun with all those downgrades & maybe Sess > McClean? Worth it, imo.
