[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

“He is an exceptional player and when you feed him in the box, he’s deadly.”

You see, we kind of knew all that. We realised that, against Blackburn, particularly a Blackburn reduced to ten men after half an hour, Van Persie had the tools to destroy them and deliver massive returns. The problem Mr Wenger, is that on Friday afternoon you uttered this…

“I will rotate a little bit because many players have given a lot…[With Van Persie] the temptation is there.”

That was news to us Fantasy managers. That put the frighteners on and, despite our attempt this morning to deconstruct that statement and put up arguments against the idea of resting Van Persie, some took action. Indeed, two of the top four ranked Fantasy Premier League managers opted to give the armband to Sergio Aguero – perhaps oblivious to Wenger’s threats, but more likely as a result of them.

The very idea of us, a site dedicated to passing information to Fantasy Football managers, ignoring the quotes from Wenger was never a viable option. We turned a blind eye to Friday’s Sun report, but when Wenger speaks, we had to report it. So, to counter that, in this morning’s Preamble, we stressed the need to keep faith with Van Persie and hope that Wenger resisted the gamble. Hopefully, that helped some in their decision to sit tight.

Is there a lesson to be learned? Certainly the fact that Van Persie remained on the pitch to provide an assist to Thierry Henry with the score at 6-1, indicates that the idea of resting Van Persie didn’t cross Wenger’s mind once the goals started flowing. Had Van Persie been tiring, had he been desperate for a break – why was he left on the pitch when the match was dead and buried?

Only Wenger has the answers, and it seems we’ll never quite work out his thinking when it comes to Van Persie. With the Champions League programme looming, we can surely expect more uncertainly, perhaps some smokescreens.

However, today surely confirmed that we can ill afford to take risks with Van Persie and the armband. There is no better Fantasy damage dealer and if there’s a chance that he will be on the pitch, particularly against abject opposition, we have to back him. That policy may cost us – there may well be occasions when Van Persie will be left fidgeting on the bench whilst sporting our armbands. The question is, will those who suffer that fate feel any worse that those who missed out on today’s incredible haul? Right now, in this Knee Jerk, it seems unlikely.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I hope Sess gets some BP's despite these wise calculations. He provided the decisive pass for McClean's goal and it was an especially important assist because it decided the game. These punishments for shots off target don't take into account he was staring into a mist of snow and was standing in a few inches of it!

As forums go though, techincally this one is pretty basic. It would really help if we had "awards" or "achievements" based on performance history / number of posts / official +1 or -1 ratings of posts

I'm tempted to take him out in some of the other Fantasy games I do, I wouldn't take him out in the budweiser one, I'd lose too much money on him. Apart from the Newcastle game, I can see him struggling to score against all the rest, or at least not score as well as he has been doing.

RVP having more difficult games makes it far more interesting!
There isn't a huge amount of satisfaction involved when most if not all our rivals score the same big points with RVP!!

Those of us who would like to catch the guy in first place etc in our leagues need other avenues of attack!
Dempsey case in point a cople of weeks back with his huge haul!

I would say RVP is unlikely to score as big again for a while-it's a risky business betting against him these days but it has to be done!
The season don't last forever n we have to start making some big moves!

Captain choices for the coming few weeks will be soo much more interesting ...

I'm thinking dempsey again next week!!

I might have agreed with you, however seeing him play today with OX is awesom....ox and gervinho/wallcot can really open thinks up for him on both sides. I cant see him slowing down now. 1 G per game avg. for sure.

It looks like the game at Stamford Bridge is in danger of been called off. Another conspiracy by a Chelsea side without Terry,Cole,Drogba and possibly Lampard. In 2010 they were in bad form around Christmas also and decided to call it off even though the pitch was playable.

I hope so. As a United fan I feel this is the best time to play Chelsea and we have beaten them in the last four. Torres could easily explode against us then go back to his usual ways. He gets overly motivated when United are in town.

Helguson's days as a starter are over. He might get games with Cisse out by you can't rely on a 34 year old striker who is injury plagued.

On Swansea, Siggurdson looks like the real deal too, he looks like the main playmaker at the moment, Sinclair might be a little over-rated because of his Penalty duties. It'll be interesting to see what happens against Norwich. I'm tempted to stick with Graham again for that fixture.

McTown & CANADIAN FOOTBALL, need some advice on my team.

Was planning to do Mata>Silva this week. Silva at 78% on FISO. Wait overnight for ManU vs. Chelsea results?

And is it worth taking a hit to get Dawson out of my team, or grind it out for the time being?

mata has been up to nothing recently, and that was during his supposed 'good fixtures'. Silva has great fixtures, always involved, and has strikers that can actually score his assists. Mata... not so much (torres). If you got the cash seems wise to me, but i got him at 9.5 so yeah.

Cant see any tot cs easily and he has very little attacking threat, but if you can field enough def this week do it for free next week, else putting too much pressure on the def as he needs a cs to come even on the hit.

ok cheers for the input, thats what i was thinking. Should i make the move now or wait until after the chelsea game tmrw? Mata is a homer and really is terrible away from the bridge. Hopefully he can produce tmrw in a big game! if not, he'd given me squat (2s, 3s) since my WC 🙁

wait and see yeah, silva didnt score this week so wont rise too fast. if mata scores you could keep or get any price rise out of him then sell his ass. but i could be biased, never been a big fan of his and love silva!

No me neither, just thought he'd produce SOMETHING over the last gameweeks, but? nothing... 3,3,3,2 sooo annoying! Nobody on chelsea can finish! Even if he produces tmrw ill wait it out, but still dumping his sorry ar$$. Sorry, silva must come in.

Also a problem, Id only have 5.7 left for a defender whilst transferring out, but really want a city defender(lescott at least). Not tempted by clichy due to rotation reasons.

Personally, I like it. Dont knee jerk too much!!!

Some suggestions - I know you cant do all of them.

      Reo > Mclean or Siggy
Never worth a hit to take out Def.
I am thinking of Bringing in Mata in a few weeks. Maybe hang tight with him.
Silva will not rise this week. -274 today on Fiso...(trending Down) I cannot believe this one....everyone is ragging on him for todays "poor perfomance" . He is the best playmaker in the EPL and the pitch was poor.

      Vorm out for Mings

      Dawson > Richards/Komp

Downgrade Aguero imo.....i do not think he is on form.
