Robert Huth will miss Stoke’s next two league games. Alex McLeish demands his side improve their defensive performances. Jack Rodwell is back in training for Everton, Shane Long remains a doubt for West Brom’s visit to Wolves, while Tim Ream could be set for a Bolton debut at home to Wigan:

The FA confirmed yesterday that the red card awarded to Robert Huth in Saturday’s game with Sunderland will stand. Huth will now miss the Potters’ next two league matches against Fulham and Swansea, in addition to an FA Cup Fifth Round match with Crawley Town, and will be available for the gameweek 27 home clash with Norwich. The decision is likely to see Jonathan Woodgate drafted into the first-team by Tony Pulis, with Andy Wilkinson having taken over from the summer signing at right-back in recent weeks.

Alex McLeish has hit back at Charles N’Zogbia after the winger took to twitter at the weekend to reveal he is unhappy at Villa. The former Wigan man has been in decent form of late, returning a goal and a couple of assists in his last three starts but his words after the 2-1 defeat at Newcastle haven’t went down well with McLeish, who explained:

If Charles is not enjoying his football, then he needs to do something about it on the pitch – and that applies to everyone and not just Charles N’Zogbia. It is not a coincidence the best moments Charles has had in a Villa shirt have come when he has been working hard – and that’s when you get the best rewards in anything.

McLeish also went on to criticise his side’s overall defensive work in the display at Newcastle, hinting that changes could be made for the weekend game against City. The Villa boss revealed his anger at a lack of industry, explaining:

We can’t have any passengers. It’s a crucial period for us coming up. We have got to be prepared to die to stop balls coming in from the sides. But we have to get back to shut-outs. We have to show the five internationals at the back – or whoever we bring to play in the back five – have what it takes to stop goals.

Bolton’s new signing Tim Ream is now available for selection after receiving international clearance. With Owen Coyle particularly scathing of his defence after the weekend defeat at Norwich, a shake-up could be on the cards, meaning the centre-half could be in line for a debut at home to Wigan this weekend. Gretar Steinsson and Joe Riley could also be ready to return but, with Tyrone Mears coming through his first appearance of the season unscathed last weekend, both could find it difficult to break into the first XI.

Reports suggest Jack Rodwell has returned to full training as he battles back from a hamstring problem. The Everton midfielder has had an injury-plagued season, managing just 103 minutes since the end of gameweek 11- his last appearance was in gameweek 20 when he aggravated the same problem and limped off after 19 minutes. With the likes of Darron Gibson impressing alongside Marouane Fellaini, it seems unlikely David Moyes will rush Rodwell back.

Roy Hodgson has admitted that Shane Long is once again a doubt for West Brom’s derby showdown with Wolves. The Irishman has failed to start since gameweek 19 due to back and digestive problems and while his manager revealed he is back in training, he has yet to decide whether to risk him at Molineux, with Marc-Antoine Fortune poised to continue his role alongside Peter Odemwingie:

Shane seems to be making big strides forward. He feels a lot better but he’s had two quite serious knockbacks so we have to unfortunately take it a little bit easier with him. We can’t throw him straight back in there because first it was the back and second it was chest pains. It’s too early to rule him in or out for Wolves.

Graham Dorrans is also a doubt, after a scan on Monday revealed the Scot has a hip problem. Hodgson also explained the recent lack of game time for new signing Liam Ridgewell, saying:

Liam has missed a lot of football. Liam looks like a player who has been out for a long time and hasn’t played many games since he got back. Liam’s had a topsy-turvy season and I don’t think he’s had many starts.

Fulham’s Matthew Briggs has joined Peterborough on loan. The left-back has made just one start under Martin Jol this season and leaves the Cottage on a one-month deal.

Sylvain Marveaux is unsure if he will play again this season as he struggles to overcome a groin problem. The winger has made just one start for Newcastle this term since his summer move from Rennes and has failed to play since gameweek 11 after breaking down with the problem. Speaking to the Newcastle Chronicle, he admitted:

I don’t know if I will play again this season, because I won’t train for two more months. I’m not thinking of playing again. I want to do it step by step. It’s getting better now. I’ll start running next week. The worst – surgery and everything – is behind me, and I just want to be on the pitch. I hope I will train in a couple of months.

    Repost

Hi guys. Wanted some advice with regards to my next move. 1 FT and 0.4m in the bank.

    My team is

    Mignolet

    Kompany Vermaelen Kelly

    Valencia Dempsey (vc) Silva Bale

    RVP Aguero (c) Graham

    Sorensen McClean Evans Taiwo

    I'm keeping the FT for next week and using the 2 to sell Graham & Vermaelen/Valencia to do the following;

    a) Graham > Ba (Rival has Ba) & Vermaelen > £4.9m defender

    b) Graham > Cisse & Vermaelen £4.2m defender

    c) Valencia > £5.7m midfielder & Graham > Ba

    d) Valencia > £6.4m midfielder & Graham > Cisse

    e) Other

    Any thoughts on this appreciated.

Firstly I'd play McClean over Valencia is week,

Of those options, I'd Do (a) to get Ba and a cheap defender - I reckon Santon

    I have the following team

    Hart / Sorenson
    Kompany / Evra / Evans / Santon / Senderos
    Mata / Bale / Dempsey / McClean / Surman
    RVP / Aguero / Ba

    I have 1.5m left.

I feel like I have too much left in the bank but I dont know what to use it on. Im playing Hart/Kompany/Evra/Evans most weeks. I think McClean is great value and has shown he can pick up points home & away. I could upgrade Surman but then it just gives me a selection headache from my front 8 each week so I always prefer having a player I can easily bench each week.

Any suggested changes in the near future or leave the spare cash alone?

    Thanks

McClean as done well sure, but i would still like the option of benching from time to time, Sunderlands upcoming fixtures arent amazing. id use the money to upgrade Surman.

Surman actually has decent fixtures when McClean has hard games so I can easily bring him in for them and he has the potential to do well and is also on some FK's & corners. If i upgrade him to say Sigg/Tarrabt then id be tempted to underplay McClean who has 7.3 ppg in his last 6 starts which also includes games against Man CIty & Chelsea.

Anything else you think I need to change?

I havent looked but how many games has Surman consistantly played? Their always seems to be crazy rotation in their midfield, it would be sods law that he didnt play the week you wanted him too. Rest looks good.

Thanks. From that last 12 league games Surman has played 90mins in 10 matches, 75 in one match and didnt feature (possible injury) in the other. So is suprisingly pretty much a certain starter.

Just looked at McCleans last 6 games since he has been playing in the starting 11.

His average ppg is 7.3 and hes has had 9bps within the six games.

These points also include matches against Man City & Chelsea.

I knew he was in form but that is outstanding for a 4.5m player. Wow.

Yeah I can imagine many have had the same bad luck. I have McClean but treat him as I would do Sess for example and not as a cheap 5th midfielder, I have Surman for that role. If McClean was prices at. 6-6.5m I bet he would have just as much investment and also be played more.

"Moron" was coined in 1910 by psychologist Henry H. Goddard[3] from the Ancient Greek word μωρός (moros), which meant "dull"[4] (as opposed to oxy, which meant "sharp"), and used to describe a person with a mental age in adulthood of between 8 and 12 on the Binet scale.[5] It was once applied to people with an IQ of 51-70, being superior in one degree to "imbecile" (IQ of 26-50) and superior in two degrees to "idiot" (IQ of 0-25). The word moron, along with others including, "idiotic," "imbecilic," "stupid," and "feeble-minded," was formerly considered a valid descriptor in the psychological community, but it is now deprecated in use by psychologists.[6]
Following opposition to Goddard's attempts to popularize his ideas,[7] Goddard recanted his earlier claims about the moron: "It may still be objected that moron parents are likely to have imbecile or idiot children. There is not much evidence that this is the case. The danger is probably negligible."[8]

        😉

Any thoughts on who to transfer in?

Vorm in goals so don't want Swansea defender.

Defence just no - Richards, Raylor, Senderos, Evans, ???? (5.8 to spend)

Only got 1 FT so I have to get Huth out first then possibly look at Raylor if he is not playing. The only money I need to keep is if I upgrade Lindegaard.

Yet another generic with a mild twist... (well.. not really..)

    Vorm (Mignolet)
    Caulker Hibbert SKelly (Enrique Simpson)
    Silva Valencia Dempsey(c) Bale (Mata)
    RvP(vc) Zamora Ba

Captaincy not certain yet... Was considering benching Valencia instead of Mata for sake of fielding a differential, but seeing as though many are opting to bench Valencia anyway, it may act as a default differential... 🙂 and so with Mata on bench, random punt with Hibbert in defense.. Will have fun barracking for the home team 😉

I think they are trying to prove a point, and just back the referees whatever

      Only rescinded if mistaken identity.

Makes you even more annoyed about their attempt to get Rooneys ban for the Euros shortened!
So he gets only a two game ban for deliberately kicking someone, whereas Huth gets three games for sliding in the snow!

the foot wasnt raised - thats the point, he sliding on the ice unable to stop but able to tuck his legs in and not make contact - as Pulis' email to MOTD showed

        FARCICAL

No wonder they won't bring in video technology - the FA don't understand the game at all. They should be overhauled completely.

Tha player must know that he will slide faster in snowy conditions.. so as to avoid a sliding challenge in the first place..

Unfortunately I disagree - and I have (or had) Huth! If Meyler had not jumped in the air after playing the ball he would have been clattered by Huth's knee, producing a dead-leg at best. Huth should not have gone flying in like that - and Pulis is one eyed, so his opinion can be ignored. Btw, don't say I don't know what I'm talking about - I probably played footy for much longer than you've been on this planet.

Can't believe Dalglish is still saying that Suarez should not have been banned for racially abusing Evra! It may have been an accepted part of the "banter" when he was playing but times have moved on and until dinosaurs like him are eradicated from the game, racism will never be kicked out of football.

The pool fans still have great confidence in Dalglish. Even if pool were in relegation battle, they wouldnt ask for the sack. Dont think the owners would sack him either. You just have to look at how many pool fans who booed evra to see how they support suarez and Dalglish.

With Etherington back, how will that affect Stoke's line up?

Help please , same old Huth problem

    Huth Kelly santon taiwo Evans

Can't get citeh defenders as have 3 already
Don't want to double up on existing defs

Have money in bank so can get pretty much any other defender
But who , Chelsea have nice run but only guaranteed
Are Gerry and cole.... And that's big money for what you get

    Any suggestions ?

i went for bardsley. MON runs a tight ship, despite their fixtures i think Sunderland defenders are worth an investment.. just a thought 🙂

Why not double up? Not doubling up doesn't make any sense considering your predicament
All the best choices seem to involve doubling up so so it, its a far better choice than trusting Taiwo! Fulham be my choice.
Or pay for the Chelsea defender.
I dunno what was wrong with Ashley Cole at the wknd but if he back he's prob your best bet over the next 4 wks

Why would he? He has missed 2 all season. Same as Rooney.

Pulis is a lot more ruthless went it comes to bad performances. Back four has been reshuffled a few times. Keepers changed. Before walters, ethers was taking them.
