Round one of the Members-only version of the Paddy Power Cup took place over Gameweek 25. It saw 512 fantasy managers go head-to-head, battling it out for a place in the second round. The full set of results can be viewed right here.

Top-score this week went to ANDYCAIRNS, who thrashed Real Ale Madrid 75 – 37. That 38-point margin of victory was the joint-highest, with Real SoSoBad‘s 70 – 32 demolition of isacki matching the feat.

Huge wins were not the story of the round however, as 11 games ended all square (leaving overall rank to split them) and 27 were decided by a single-point. One of those scraping through was our very own Big Dunc, who edged out ChrisHighwind 30 – 29 in an embarrassingly low-scoring affair.

At least that meagre tally takes Big Dunc through, unlike Mark. His woeful 28 sees him make a swift exit from the tournament at the hands of Shimmy.

There was no competition for the wooden spoon award of the round, as no one came close to intuitif‘s impressive score of minus two.

The draw for the second round will be published later this weekend.

Managed to make it through to the last 128. Looking forward to the draw but I'm focussed on winning a League and an old h2h rivalry. Now there's this which one to play for?

Cleverley isn't assured a start in the XI + he's not a fantasy prospect.

Nailed on or not I would never get him. He's played 339 minutes this season in which United scored 15 goals, Cleverley has 1 assist. This includes 90 minutes in 8-2 destruction of Arsenal Cleverley getting 0 goals & 0 assists.

I'd get Siggy, McClean, Moses, Pilkington, anyone before him. And if/when he returns to first team do you really expect him to last for the rest of the season without any new injuries? That's one valuable transfer wasted on him (2 actually if you count the one you used to get him).

Just because someone is cheap and plays in a good team does not make him a good fantasy option.

Very quiet on here this morning! Lost on previous post:

Appreciate a quick RMT to make sure that I am good to go for gw26.

    Krul(Lindy)
    JEvans Caulker Richards (Kelly Dawson)
    McLean Dempsey Silva Bale (Siggy)
    Rooney Aguero (c) RVP(v)

Far from sold on my captain choices. Thinking RVP, but got a feeling the Arse/Spurs game may be a tight affair with few goals.

Would anyone of the few people online read my WC'team post for GW 28? 🙂

    Here's my WC'team for GW28!

    Here it is:
    Mignolet-Schwarzer
    BAE-Evans-Agger-Skrtel-R Taylor
    Bale-Dempsey-Yaya Toure-McClean-Sigurdsson
    Ba-RVP-Rooney

Will probs change some players based on form and injuries in the two coming GW’S.

-My keepers: Mignolet and Schwarzer are both very good keepers. Mignolet playing on the best form team in the PL atm, + Sunderland has become a much tighter defense with MON as their manager. As for Schwarzer, I think Fulham will start getting CS again with him back.

-My defenders: I think my defenders are very good, and all have good fixtures from GW 28 onwards. I’m doubling up on ‘Pool defenders because of the kind run of fixtures from GW 28 + they are tightest defense in the league. I will scout Raylor, etc about his gametime, which position he will be in , now that he’s back. He’s an amazing fantasy prospect if he’s nailed on for Newcastle.

-My midfielders: Bale and Yaya will be my weekly starters, with the others rotating based on form + fixtures. I think McClean and Siggy are quite good and very cheap shouts that helps me with getting my three strikers. Dempsey I like, he’s having a very good season for Fulham and are their best FPL prospect.

My forwards: RVP,Ba and Rooney, I will play them every week Nuff said.

    Any opinions please? 🙂

Looks incredibly strong. However, I see no point in doubling up on Liverpool. Would rather have G Johnson & a cheapo. And how are they 'the tightest defence in the league' when City has conceded less, United & City have more clean sheets and Tottenham has the same amount?

Maybe Caulker because the 5th defender would mainly be on bench as you'd still have 4 very good defenders. Saves you 1.3M£ to spend in future if/when you need to change your team.

    FFS Team:

How come the rules Paddy Power Cup rules aren't the same as the actual FPL cup rules? Those being that after a tie in points you look goals scored, goals conceded and finally a virtual coin toss. To have a team win by rank, despite a tie, just isn't fair, and definitely should have been in rules beforehand.

All that is needed is clarity...

"What is the Paddy Power Cup? The Paddy Power Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager highest in the overall standing will progress."

Unlucky Ozinkous, it clearly states that you will lose as the lowest ranked player in the event of a tie...

Surely it was in those very Paddy Power Cup rules already? You can argue fairness from both angles, I don't think there is a 'fairer' choice here, and besides both people play by the same rules so you can't prove anyone is advantaged.

    Morning all

Is there any way of seeing a player's EA Sports PPI rating for a given gameweek (or even the last gameweek?).

Whether point hits for transfers pay off are in the lap of the Gods. I've taken 4 point hits that backfire spectacularly (Rooney & Keane > Aguero & Cisse - before Rooney scored 2 away to Chelsea, Keane scores a goal and 3 baps at Newcastle and Cisse gets sent off against QPR), and 8 point hits which have worked out well.

What I would say, is that if you're taking a hit make sure it's for a player you're going to want for at least 4 weeks. The worse moves are hits for short term impulse buys, imo.

Just had a quick look of cup results.. It made me feel my 40 pts last gameweek was decent (despite red arrow). Too bad that I didn't make it to this cup.

Btw, for Gw26, would you play Sorensen or Vorm .. and .. play Evans or BAE?

    Sorensen or Vorm
    Simpson - Kompany - Evans
    Ses. - Dempsey - Silva - Bale
    Ba - RvP - Aguero (c)

    Sub: Valencia, BAE, Kelly

      Play Vorm and Evans IMO.
Stoke sucks atm and "Stoke at home" are no longer a line.
Evans has much more chances of cleanies than BAE and Evans has been playing great the last games.

+1 the only thing with BAE is potential attacking returns. However surely that can't go on with him, he is due a 2 pointer. Evans has been getting forward a lot too lately.

Thanks.. I think Evans too for last DF spot. For Gk, Sorensen is starting there now but current performance of Stoke and their busy schedule (away to Valencia on next Thu) put me into concern. I believe I'd finally switch to Vorm.

Hi can you please advise on my idea?

    Here is my team:

     Vorm, mignolet

    Richards, Evans, senderos, Simpson, taiwo

    Bale, Valencia, silva, Dempsey, sess

    RVP, dzeko, Ba

I am now thinking of doing these 3 transfers for a -4

    Out: dzeko, Valencia, sess
    In: Rooney, McLean, yaya Toure

    thoughts?

    Thanks

I'm also gonna bring YaYa in for Valencia even though I also have Silva. Unless you're short of funds I'd wait until next Thursday bight though just to make sure Rooney & Toure don't get injured in Europa League games

Good trades but I'm still not sure if I would do it now.. Wait until City play the 2nd game on next Thu and see if there will be more injury concern.

Btw, I keep Aguero for next two matches and will get Rooney in after that.

Aston Villa (Home), Swansea (Home), Norwich (Away), West Brom (Home), Everton (Home), Stoke (Home), Newcastle (Home), QPR (Away), Blackburn (Home), Bolton (Away), Wolves (Home), Blackburn (Away), Wolves (Home).

I think Siggy/Dyer and Moses/Beausejour rotation could be the way to go. Wigan also have great fixtures with 4 home nice home games in the next 6

The thing with him dropping deeper at times is a positive thing though. Firstly it guarantees his game time. And secondly and more importantly it gives him a killer PPI. That is what makes him a BP magnet. Valencia is a classic example of this

He only picked up 3 BP's in the Everton vs Wigan game and that's because Wigan's was an own goal from Neville and Everton's goalscorer Anichebe played 10 minutes.
His PPG is a little bit hard to judge considering he has only played 3 minutes.

Its about being ahead of the curve though. It depends how long you wait before jumping aboard. If you wait much longer and he does well, you lose the differential

I don't think we can say that Beausejour is a bonus magnet just yet. Against Everton he gained an assist in a game devoid of any standout performers with no Wigan goalscorer. His PPI of 19 was a low scoring one - that kind of PPI rarely gets any bonus, let alone a maximum. At Bolton meanwhile, both he and Moses came away with assists and yet Moses outscored him on PPI, with more passes and twice as many dribbles - so there's little evidence as yet to say that Beausejour has come in and started running the show.

Surely the defensive output will rival Moses's dribbles though no? and what about shots on/off target? I suppose its early days and your absolutely right to say it isn't guaranteed yet, especially as he has only played 3 games.

Thanks Mark for sharing the info and thoughts. Btw, I try not to think that you simply tried to back up your favorite Moses.. (kidding) 😛

Do note that all of Moses' attacking points have been picked up away from home, therefore is he really a good option for the next 6 weeks?

Good point. I actually prefer Beausejour. We all know Moses's faults

Where in midfield does Beausejour play for Wigan? Going by his 2 performances thus far, could be a hidden gem

On the wing, sometimes he drops deeper but it helps him get a higher PPI so it makes him a BP magnet. He offers a lot going forward to. Kind of like Wigans version of Valencia. The article I posted above did a great post on him

Great article, am finding it very difficult to replace Valencia with a budget option that doesn't mean doubling up on 2 midfield players from the same team, Jean could that man
