Sweeping out of the frozen North with his Geordie horde, Demba Ba’s dismembering of the Premier League’s finest legions has struck fear into the hearts of defences up and down the land. A rampaging season has already seen the Senegalese sensation plunder 16 goals thus far and, despite stalling at the African Cup of Nations, he’s now back installed as part of the Magpies’ unlikely charge on a top four placing…

Arriving at Upton Park from Hoffenheim in the January 2010/11 transfer window, seven goals in just 12 league games for West Ham quickly cemented Ba a reputation on these shores. Having acquired a taste for top-flight goals, he was quick to pledge himself to Newcastle when the Hammers’ relegation triggered a release clause in his contract last summer, and with a modest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) valuation of 6.5, he cut an imposing figure in many pre-season watchlists.

Ba’s campaign didn’t get off to the best of starts; his decision to fast during Ramadan at the start of the season affected his on-pitch displays. A series of sluggish performances harvested three substitute appearances and no goals in the first four gameweeks, as his FPL price resultantly slipped to 6.2.

A return to first-team duties in Gameweek 5 led to a glut of goals. A hat-trick at home to Blackburn the following weekend sounded the starting gun on an irresistible run of attacking performances that have seen him notch 131 Fantasy points in just 17 games.

Included in Ba’s total are 24 bonus points, second only to Robin Van Persie’s 30 thus far. Further comparison with the Arsenal skipper shows Ba has averaged 7.33 points per start; perhaps surprisingly, this is superior to Van Persie’s 7.25 points per start and illustrates just how key a Fantasy asset the Newcastle man has been this term. Since returning from African Cup of Nations duties, his price has soared, rising by 0.6 up to 7.9 in the last three gameweeks, as winter wildcards afforded Fantasy managers a chance to reassemble squads and acquire his services.

PlayerPointsGoalsBonusPoins per StartAverage PriceCurrent Price
Van Persie18522307.2512.713.4
Ba13916247.336.97.9

Factoring in his time at West Ham, Ba’s record in England’s top-flight is astonishing: a career Premier League goals-to-games ratio of 0.7- that’s better than Thierry Henry, better than Alan Shearer, better than, well, anyone, if you take 10 goals minimum as a qualifier.

If the form book and spot-kick duties aren’t sufficient temptation, three of the next four courses on Demba’s menu are at home (WOL SUN ars NOR), kicking off with a potentially profitable encounter with a rudderless Wolves side, still smarting from their catastrophic Molineux spanking at the hands of West Brom. The aforementioned Van Persie, along with City’s Sergio Aguero and a resurgent Wayne Rooney, powered by improving fixtures, all lay convincing claims to our Fantasy forward lines. However, Ba undoubtedly has the weaponry and the platform to outscore all three over the next few Gameweeks.

I was all set on doing Zamora to Ba. But am now considering Zamora and Valencia out for Rooney and a 4.5m mid, probably Surman. Would be for a 4 pt hit. Is this madness or sensible getting Rooney in before the hordes? My strikers would then be Rooney Aguero RVP.

    Hi guys!

I need to make up around 100 points on the leaders.

    My team:

    Krul Vorm

    Kompany Simpson Evans Caulker Huth

    Siggy Sess Silva Dempsey Bale

    RVP Aguero Ba

Do you reckon it is worth tacking a punt on Mata -> Dempsey for a 4 point hit over the next three weeks? Will he outscore Dempsey especially now that Fulham have Pogrebnyak and Dembele upfront? Cheers;)

Mata is a risk. Good at home, otherwise unpredictable.Nice team you have, depends on the teams of your opponents. if they have similar team, then you need to go for differentials (Yaya, Nani, Mata, Rooney, etc.)

        Yes mate.

Most of them have Sess Bale Silva dempsey Ox and Ireland and front three is RVP Ba and Aguero.

However, their defenders are better than mine. One has Baines, Kompany, Bardsley, Raylor and the other one has Kompany, BAE, Raylor, Shawcross.

        Dunno what to do?

It seems that midfield differential could prove crucial as I am planning on bringing Rooney for Aguero GW 28 and pool defender for GW 29 for Huth and possibly Friedel and Kaboul/BAE for gw31.

See how he's doing anyway. I reckon no player is nailed on for the rest of the season maybe Rooney if he can hold some form and not rely on penalties only. Mcclean is good now but don't plan too far ahead with him. (of course I hope he proves me wrong!)

Well, yes, then Beausejour is better perhaps? Don't want to swap Sess at the moment. WOuld only swap him for McLean to be honest as I do want some Sunderland cover. Dunno if doing Mata/Nani/young for Dempsey would be good for this week for a 4 point hit?

True I'm saying this from the comfortable position of being a mcclean owner. But I reckon bale to mata, bae to raylor will be worth a 4point hit this week for me. Problem is, after a 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle transferring out 2 key spurs players just looks wrong!

McArthur for Siggy? Then I would have a dilemma who to play out of my midfielders as I would want to play RVP Ba Aguero(Rooney later) in every game upfront?

      My advice:

First:bring maximum two differentials (Mata, Yaya, Nani), someone who is due to come in form and has good fixtures. But do not risk too much.

Next: try to make use of GW 29 and possible DGWs. Use your transfer wise to have in GW 29 playing 11 and to have as many players playing double games, whenever will it be.

Do not go wild with differentials, too soon buddy. 100 pts is nothing. 10 weeks 10 points.

Almost everybody plan to do Aguero > Rooney for GW28.

I am afraid about two things:
    - that his price will be to high
    - this his 'form' will be gone.

    Is my fear grounded? Thanx.

      1. There is always someone you can sell to get Rooney. Always.
      2. There is only one thing bigger than your fear.....the fear of Rooney going apeshite in gw 28 when everyone has him and you don't.

I have plenty money for Rooney, that is not a problem. But still it is difference to buy him for 12 of 12.5. Only if Aguero would get injured this week, I would immediately (even for a hit) bring Rooney.

I am afraid that I will keep Aguero for good fixtures and he will bing me 4 points (and wasted captaincy) and Rooney will will fire from all weapons next two GWs. And on GW 28, he will be expensive and will bring me (us) 2 pts.

Captaincy choices this week then. Looks like it will be a tough decision for many. The main candidates will be:

    Aguero (BLA)
    Ba (WOL)
    Rooney (nor)
    RVP (TOT)

There are also a great options outside the main picks in:

    Mata (BOL) or Sturridge
    Bent (wig)
    Zamora (FUL)

I personally an going for Aguero with Ba (vc) as think my rival will captain Ba.

Any thoughts on who you are favouring?

    Vorm – Mignolet
    Richards – Evans – Simpson – BAE – Kelly
    Silva – Dempsey – Bale – Siggurdson – McClean
    Rvp – Dzeko – Ba

No FT left this week, but 3.4 in the bank to do Dzeko to Aguero next week, I think. I told myself no more hits!

    So, choices are:

    1) Start Dzeko, leave either Siggy or McClean on the bench.

    2) Dzeko on the bench, start all five mids.

    3) Take the hit and get in Aguero this week. I'm tempted but think odds are decent that he ends up with 5 pts or less this week.

But you all are so smart. Thoughts?

        its all about taking gambles!

            Fair enough.

Will mull it over between now and saturday morning. probably better to just play 4-3-3 (i dont fancy playing siggy away at stoke) and save my transfer.

is there an instance where blanks were not made up the same gw as is the case for gw29? just trying to guage how likely they would be moved to another gw. if there are no midweek commitments, how often in a case like this are they moved to another gw? could they possibly be moved to the previous midweek (gw28)?

Best move this week considering I am wildcarding in GW28 (i.e. 3 freebies over the next 2 weeks are short term moves only!)

    a) Huth -> Raylor (bench Rangel and save the other freebie)
    b) Huth -> JEvans (bench Rangel and save the other freebie)
    c) Huth -> Shawx (bench Rangel and save the other freebie)
    d) Rangel -> Santon (bench Rangel and save the other freebie)
    e) Huth & Bale -> Raylor/JEvans/Shawx & Mata/Nani (bench Rangel)
    f) Something else

    Sorenson
    Kompany, Simpson, Rangel
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Moses
    RVP, Aguero, Ba

    Schwarzer, Sigurdsson, Caulker, Huth

    Kompany Simpson Evans (BAE, Kelly)
    Bale Silva McClean Dempsey (Valencia)
    Ba Aguero (C) RVP

    2FT (zero in bank)

You'd probably be better off without him. Dude has digressed into a real scrub/bum. His Rhode Island sized version of a heat-map on the pitch this will only do my gunners a service. If I was Harry he wouldn't touch the pitch until:

1- He entered a yoga class and could touch his toes (which I'm sure he can't).

2- Could complete 3 basketball suicide sprints within 45 seconds each without throwing-up.

      or

      2- Run 3.2 miles within 26 minutes

It's a shame that Parker isn't more creative and more comfortable over the ball against defenders. Kranjcar in that spot would absolutely scorch us.

It happened to me 2 seasons ago. I'm afraid that's the end of your season right there. Your team has been hacked. Bastards.

No way :/ I logged on to it last night lol to change my email. Think somethings buggered up there as opposed to being hacked. Changed the email, logged out, wouldn't let me log back in etc. Emailed support and they are taking their usual time to respond.

Moses vs. Mclean this week or Fixture vs. Form.

I can't decide, currently on Moses, maybe I have finally lost it.

I'm also relying on Aguero Rooney and RVP. Everyone thinks Ba will do well so I think he will do badly....but i said that just before dempsey got his hattrick
