Across the chest of Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel’s heavily tattooed body is the Latin slogan, “veni, vidi, vici,” which roughly translates as “I came, I saw, I conquered.” It is a philosophy that typifies his performances at either end of the pitch, with the Slovakian international building up a solid reputation as a fearless defender who offers an added goal threat.

Signed by Rafa Benitez in January 2008 from Zenit Saint Petersburg, Liverpool fans quickly took to Skrtel’s combative approach, naming him man of the match in his first Merseyside derby via the team’s official website.

During the 2008-09 season, he had effectively displaced Daniel Agger as Jamie Carragher’s defensive partner but injuries cut that campaign, and the following one, short. Indeed, it was only last term that Skrtel truly cemented his place as Liverpool’s most valued centreback, when he played every minute of the season.

After missing the first two games of the current campaign due to a calf injury, the 27-year old’s season kicked off in style in Gameweek 3, as Skrtel grabbed a goal and a couple of bonus points at Bolton, returning a 10 point Fantasy haul. Skrtel’s other goal this season came away at Aston Villa in Gameweek 16, when a clean sheet and three bonus points earned him 15 points, his second double digit points score of the season. A goal in last month’s Carling Cup final served as further reminder of his attacking prowess and this season he has also emerged as one of the top performing defenders in terms of goal attempts, supplementing his tally with nine clean sheets and seven bonus points.

With Liverpool’s season dogged by controversy and poor attacking form, investment in their players has been limited so far. Currently the ninth best defender in terms of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points right now with a total of 95, Skrtel is the second top outfield player for the Reds, a single point behind 8.5 priced Charlie Adam’s 96.

Owned by just 5.9% of managers, his initial value of 6.0 has risen by a mere 0.2 since the start of the season but that looks set to change, though, with the upcoming double gameweek 28 seeing Liverpool travel to Sunderland before playing host to Everton.

Indeed, a look at the Reds’ fixtures over the final third of the season from Gameweek 29 onwards (qpr, WIG, new, AVL, bla, FUL, WBA, nor, CHE, swa) has, arguably, just two tricky games- a Gameweek 31 trip to Newcastle and the home match against Chelsea in Gameweek 37. Those Fantasy managers who draft Skrtel in ahead of next week, then, could conceivably play the centre half in virtually all of his side’s remaining matches as Kenny Dalglish attempts to steer his side to a vital fourth place finish.

Clichy has to go imo. I'd say Kelly, but he is a doubt this week. Still, you can play Taiwo-Simpson-Caulker and get away with it...

Again, bringing in Kelly leaves you with a rather cheap backline 😛

What if I downgrade Sessegnon to McLean and upgrade Clichy to Kompany? Leaves me with enough money to do Aguero ➡ Rooney next week...

It's what I'm thinking of atm anyway. I need Kompany at this stage but I'd be slightly weary of having 2 cheap mids in my team (Siggy and McLean)

yeah they've both shown great form but I'd be surprised if they manage consistency. Having said that, I'd be happy to only play one of them each week and bench the one with the worse fixture because I feel that Valencia, Bale, Silva, Aguero, Ba and RVP can sometimes be fixture proof and 'unbenchable.' Valencia's injury is a massive worry for me though. Will he even be back in time for GW 28?

Europa League Group B Match Day 2 Preview:

Standard Liege (Duffman91) VS FC Kobenhaven (Milanista)

Match Day 2 kicks off with a clash of the titans the group’s top 2 seeds meet in a top of the table encounter. Both teams will enter into the match off the back of moral boosting wins, with Liege winning comfortably away to Hannover and Kobenhaven thumping Vorskla . Kobenhaven manager Milanista has been bemoaning the decision not to sign Aleksander Kolarov but was still the top scoring team in Round 1 with a score of 63 and will be confident of an away victory but Standard will have a 4 point advantage and will have the added incentive of gaining top spot in the group with a victory.

    Team News:

Standard – The injuries have been racking up for Standard as the week has passed. Gareth Bale, Robin Van Persie and Stephen Kelly are injury doubts while Antonio Valencia has been ruled out of United’s encounter with Spurs. One transfer has also been made with a possible mysterious differential being brought in.
Kobenhaven – Milanista has similar injury fears with Bale, Van Persie and Kelly, while Michel Vorm also missed out last week with a virus but will be expected to make a return to action this week.

    Predicted line-ups:

Standard – Schwarzer Kompany Taylor Kelly Silva Bale Sessegnon Dyer RVP Aguero Ba
Kobenhaven – Krul Richards Taylor Kelly Silva Bale Mata Dempsey RVP Aguero Ba

    Key Differential:

Standard - Stephane Sessegnon has been the driving force in Sunderland’s recent revival and I will be hoping he can produce against arch-rivals Newcastle particularly as Milansta has 2 Geordie defenders in his team.
Kobenahven – Milanista will be hoping Clint Dempsey can deal some damage to Wolves at Craven Cottage this weekend.

Vorskla Poltava (transferaddict) VS Hannover 96 (Sarnab-Wazzagoal)

The second group B encounter see the 2 underdogs face off. Both side are coming into the game off the back of a loss and will be looking to get their first win on the board. This game will be crucial as the loser will have little chance of qualifying from the group and the winner will be right in the mix. Vorskla being the home team will enter into the game with a 4 point advantage.

    Team News:

Vorskla – Van Persie, Bale and Vorm will enter into the game as doubts.
Hannover – Sarnab has the same worries over RVP, Bale and Vorm as well as Stephen Kelly, while Micah Richards remains a rotation worry at Man City.

    Predicted Line-ups:

Vorskla – Vorm Kompany Riise Williamson Silva Bale Dempsey Sigurdsson RVP Aguero Ba
Hannover – Krul Richards Simpson Kelly Silva Bale Dempsey Sigurdsson RVP Aguero Ba

    Key Differential:

Vorskla – In truth these teams are very similar with the only differences in defence. Transferaddict will be hoping however that Micah Richards once again finds himself on the bench giving him a possible Man City clean sheet from Vincent Kompany.
Hannover 96 – Sarnab will be hoping his double up on Newcastle’s defence can pay dividends when the Magpies face Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby

For all you F1 fans out there, things are revving up nicely for the start of the F1 season on March 18th in Melbourne. To spice things up a bit, we’ve set up a F1 fantasy league for anyone yet wanting to join. The game rules are straightforward with as much (or as little) participation as you require. There are currently 25 of us in the league and the details are:

    Website: http://fantasy.etana.co.za/f1fantasy/
    Name: FFS F1 Racers
    Code: 16873178398881

Not possible to confirm that yet - The league will have to wait until the outcome of the Bham/Chelsea cup replay before it even comes on the agenda. But conventional wisdom says that, if Chelsea win the replay, then the game vs ManC wil be put back to midweek and it will stay in GW29. So, good chance of no disruption to the fixture list as far as FPL is concerned.

No, we can't, it all depends on whether Chelsea knock out Birmingham in their FA cup replay.

And even then the game might only get moved til midweek and still be in GW29, but it could be postponed longer.

Or none of this matters and Birmingham get a shock win 😉

I've got a midfield consisting of Siggs - Sinclair - Sess - Silva - Bale. I'm looking to change Sinclair and that would give me up to 7.8m to spend. Recommendations for best replacement?

I think Skrtel v Enrique is a perfect example of how the stats can dispel your presumptions, I think Enrique comes across as being the better prospect - high up the pitch, always pinging in crosses and being all sound and fury, optically he's better, statistically he isn't.

Enrique isn't nailed on according to some Liverpool fans.

They think Johnson could well move to LB with Kelly playing RB for one of the games.

Yeah, it's an interesting one, from watching Liverpool games it's always good to see Enrique with the ball on the left wing, again and again he dribbles to the edge of the box or pings in a cross.

But he's far more likely to assist the assist than get FPL points, not bad for bonus though

did aguero play full 90 mins for argentina this midweek? im thinking maybe mancini will sub him early (as I believe bolton will be down 2-0 before the second half) so he can rest and be ready for the europa leauge? and do you think ballo will play? or dzeko?

Thoughts on these moves please? Have 2FTs and 0.0m in bank

    Krul
    Kompany, Simpson, Taiwo
    Silva, Bale, Sess, Sigurdsson
    RVP, Ba, Morison

    Mignolet | Evans, Verm, Valencia

Verm --> Skrtel & Morison --> Holt. Safe transfers unless I do Verm --> Luiz which I'm tempted by.

This is my team starting for the GW 27:

    Vorm
    Richards-Komps-Kelly
    Dempsey-Bale-Silva-Sess
    Welbeck-RVP-Ba

    Bench:Krul-Caulker-Santon-Valencia

    I have ONE question!
Which one week punt should I go for?

1.Valencia>Morrison(CHE) ; If I go for this one, Morrison will be played instead of Welbeck.

    2.Welbeck>Pogrebnyak(WOL)

    3.Welbeck>Yakubu(AVL)

    4.Valencia>Siggy(wig)

Dzeko isn't a guaranteed start, so maybe someone else. Most people on here would tell you that Adam is not a great choice, but I say go for it, he has a respectable amount of points and a DGW coming up.

I would actually consider getting Suarez+Adam for the DGW, and then switching Adam out for another on form/fixture midfielder.

      How does that sound?

I wish it wasn't bloody L'Pool in the DGW as I don't actually rate any of their attacking players really...I think I'm just gonna stick to plan a which is Bent and Richards out for Aguero and Whitbred

F*ck City defenders. I had Lescott from GW1-15, got me 1 assist (on my bench). Got Richards recently and he's got me 0,1,0.
