Pavel Pogrebnyak and Clint Dempsey run riot against Wolves as Terry Connor is served up a rude awakening at the Cottage. Shola Ameobi saves the day for Newcastle in a bad-tempered Tyne-Wear derby, while a return to form by Ashley Young helps United to the three points at under-strength Spurs:

Pavel Pogrebnyak
His impressive scoring streak continues for Fulham, with Wolves proving the Russian’s latest victim. Yesterday’s hat-trick means Pogrebnyak has scored in each of his three games since moving from Stuttgart in the January window and brings his tally to 5 in three games for the Cottagers. Considering Bobby Zamora scored 5 in fifteen games before his transfer to QPR, Pogrebnyak’s impact has clearly given Martin Jol’s side an added dimension up front. The maximum bonus has been duly delivered, taking the Russian’s Fantasy haul to 33 points in just three games and, with Villa, Swansea, Norwich and Bolton to come in the next five, the bandwagon is on its way; he’s already jumped 0.2 in price this weekend, as the transfers-in continue to snowball.

Clint Dempsey
Not to be outdone, Dempsey ended a three-game goalless streak by bagging a couple in the 5-0 win. The US international returned his fifth double-figure points haul of the season and, with 149 points, is second top scoring midfielder behind Gareth Bale, having overtaken David Silva on the back of yesterday’s performance. His away form is still something of a worry- Dempsey has returned 9 goals and 5 assists at the Cottage compared to 3 goals on the road but his home returns alone make him almost impossible to overlook, particularly with a strong upcoming schedule on the horizon.

Shola Ameobi
Newcastle’s forgotten forward came to the rescue just as defeat seems a certainty against bitter rivals Sunderland. While hopes were high of goal returns for Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, the pair failed to produce, with the former ending the game on a score of -1 after a booking and missed penalty- doubly frustrating for those who selected him as vice-captain behind the absent Sergio Aguero this weekend. Ameobi’s knack of scoring against the Black Cats earned Alan Pardew’s side a vital point but in spite of his headline-grabbing goal, a role as impact sub looks his best way of harvesting points.

Ryan Taylor
His starting role on the right side of midfield continued yesterday, though a half-time reshuffle by Alan Pardew won’t have gone unnoticed by the out-of-position prospects’ Fantasy owners. With Newcastle struggling to get a hold of the game, Davide Santon was subbed off, as Taylor was shifted to his early-season role of left-back. On came Hatem Ben Arfa for an impressive second-half cameo as the home side upped the pressure- Pardew has food for thought, then, ahead of next week’s trip to Arsenal, with question marks perhaps once again raised against Taylor’s likely starting position.

Stephane Sessegnon
The Black Cats midfielder received a straight red card for violent conduct after catching Cheik Tiote with an arm and will now serve a three-match ban. With Sunderland still involved in the FA Cup, Sessegnon will miss the next two league games, against Liverpool and Blackburn, before returning in Gameweek 29 for the home clash with QPR. His absence poses his 24% Fantasy owners plenty questions, with many surely set to off-load Sessegnon, affording a break-up of the identikit midfields we’ve seen over the last few gameweeks.

Nicklas Bendtner
Back in the Black Cats starting XI for the first time since Gameweek 21, the big Dane opened the scoring at Newcastle with a coolly despatched spot-kick. Bendtner’s game time has been blighted by injury since Martin O’Neill’s arrival, with groin, ankle and facial injuries affording him just six starts under the new manager. He’s returned 2 goals and 2 assists in those six starts, though; a decent, if hardly prolific, haul. With Sessegnon now sidelined and Fraizer Campbell continuing to be eased back into action, Bendtner looks nailed-on to lead the line in the short-term; with yesterday’s game also confirming he’s number one for penalty duties, he’ set to be a crucial figure for Sunderland over the next couple of gameweeks, at least.

Wayne Rooney
Forced out last week due to a throat infection, the forward returned with the opener to continue his recent goalscoring form. Rooney has now grabbed 5 goals in his last three games for United and seems to be stepping up in performance as the season enters the final third. With (WBA, wol, FUL, bla, QPR) up next, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are set for heavy Fantasy investment, as managers juggle budgets in order to rid themselves of the likes of Sergio Aguero for the in-form United forward.

Ashley Young
With Ryan Giggs benched for the trip to Spurs, Young was given the chance on United’s left at the Lane. He played a part in all of the visitors’ goals, bagging a brace and assist in the 3-1 win and served a reminder of his potential ahead of his side’s superb upturn in fixtures. Young has largely been a huge Fantasy disappointment this term; quick out the blocks in the first five gameweeks, he’s been virtually anonymous since; indeed, yesterday was just the second time he has found the net all season. With Sir Alex Ferguson admitting he expects Antonio Valencia to be back in time for United’s Europa League away trip to Ahletic Bilbao on March 15, Young could be set for the role of bench-warmer once again, with his game time likely to diminish once the reliable Ecuadorian is available.

    Monday Morning Misery

    1. Why I didn't even think of the possibility that Aguero can be total no show? I can remember sudden tought that went through my mind, "Ba wc?", ahh don't bother changing, it doesn't mean anything.
    2. I had senderos on my wc, downgraded for Kelly so I can do number 4. Nice.
    3. Had great looking lindegaard / sorensen combo on my wc - hmmm....
    4. Krul or Schwarzer for gw26 onwards - main rival has Schwarzer + 10 same players and leading me by about 10 points. Went for Krul instead and didn't feel good about it when i put that confirm butt. Jam jam.
    5. Made a correct decision about benching sess, but then macini goes rotation crazy and all my rivals (who has sess in starting eleven) get caulker/mccauley/senderos from their bench. I got sess and evans.
    6. 36 points and there is now huuuuge gap for top 3 spots in mini league
    7. my season is pretty much over
    8. I made those decisions, but were they really this much better players for this gw that I deserved this?
    9. I realise this isn't even very interesting post
    10. I used quite a lot working time for this
    11. Would be stupid to erase it no
    12. I'll go and look for that rope now.

Good luck to all you who had C on Dempsey, those who had VC - I'm too bitter to wish you good luck today.

    Hi Guys,

Please can you give me a little feedback on my team.....deep down I'm not convinced for some reason.
Any suggestions are very much welcome:

    Schwarzer (Bogdan)
    Lescott, Kompany, Evans, Skrtel (Kelly)
    Dempsey, Nani, Silva (Miyaichi, McClean)
    Rooney, Van Persie, Pogrebnyak

    Cheers for your input

you say nani's out of form but hes got 6 and 7 in the last two, is nailed-on for the next 2 games at least and has WBA, wol.

wltho he might not be playing great, from an FPL perspective hes well worth it

1 free transfer and 1 million in the bank, here's my team:

    Vorm - Al Habsi

    Caulker - Evans - Kompany - Taiwo - Simpson

    Silva - Bale - McLean - Sigurdsson - Valencia

Aguero - Van Persie - Ba

Would it be too much of a risk to simply do Aguero ➡ Rooney this week? Thereby overlooking any Double GW players and also leaving Valencia on the bench for a third successive week? Your thoughts would be immensely appreciated 🙂

      Immensely appreciated? Great!

I think I'd just do that transfer if I were you. It'd have to be 8 points in order to get anywhere really, unless you're willing to spend that much?

My thoughts exactly. I'd have to downgrade a midfielder to get a half decent Liverpool player in and hence the 8 point hit which I'm not willing to take. Thank you very much indeed!

My planned transfer was aguero to Rooney and I'm tempted to give suarez a go as captain and do Rooney the week after. Although suarez isn't a great finisher I can't resist not ignoring a dgw and WBA are playing well to make it a difficult game for man u.

All the people ignoring Suarez must be a little bit worried surely?

2 games - A deflated Sunderland with no Cattermole and Sess. And an Everton side who haven't really looked themselves all season.

Alot of people will captain him I'm assuming but I guess there's always a chance he could get sent off aswel because in reality, he is just a little sh*t.

He could easily have had bagged himself a brace yesterday and then probably the 3 bps on top of that had that header been 3 inches lower and if he had gone for the left corner with his pen. All us Ba owners just got very unlucky and I'm waiting until he shows no promising signs at all before I get rid.

Just like to say that I disagree with '66's comment:

"Rooney will score more from RB than Suarez playing centre forward"

    Grrrrrr

When Suarez gets his shooting boots on he will score like he did at Ajax for fun!

Tbf Kezman and Alfonso Alves scored shit loads in Holland. The most annoying thing is he's still scoring a lot for Uruguay, surrounded by a lot better players their tho so he doesn't feel the need to try and do everything himself.

But yeah, if he doesn't trust his teammates to create things for him to poach he tries to create things himself, but then if he can't finish them, there is never anyone there in support..

I'm 99% going for a punt. Only DGW mid for 5.6m I can see worth a look...

Plan is leave Sess on the bench, swap Drenthe for my bench mid Reo-Coker and play Drenthe until Sess gets back as I see one of his game bans is the FA cup...

Cracking player, but I don't think Moyes likes him cause he doesn't track back. Good with the ball, crap without it. Hence wht he has yet to complete 90mins.

I have been looking there but decided against Everton players.

Skertel/Enrique/Suarez are the only ones for me!

    Here's my team:

    Krul Migs
    Kompany Senderos Shawx Taiwo Caulker
    Silva Bale Dempsey Pilks McClean
    RVP Augero Ba

Two scenario: (A) ShawX Taiwo Augero --> Skrtel Enrique Rooney
    (B) ShawX Ba Augero --> Skrtel Suarez Rooney

I can afford both (both 8pt hit) - which one you think?

    Hey guys 🙂

Have a tough decision to make. Here's the team.

    Vorm (Sorenson)
    Kompany, Evans, Senderos, (Simpson, Shotton)
    Silva, Dempsey, Bale, Siggy, (Sess)
    RVP, Ba, Rooney

    1.0m in the bank.
Have already done Aguero > Rooney

    Would:
    Ba > Suarez
    Sess > 6.5 midefielder

For a -8 hit be a good idea? Reason being, I think Suarez will outscore Ba in the next few weeks. Liverpool's fixtures look tasty.

    Cheers all 🙂

Drenthe is a brave move, personally I'm staying well away. However for only a -4 I'd recommend you go for it!
