Pavel Pogrebnyak and Clint Dempsey run riot against Wolves as Terry Connor is served up a rude awakening at the Cottage. Shola Ameobi saves the day for Newcastle in a bad-tempered Tyne-Wear derby, while a return to form by Ashley Young helps United to the three points at under-strength Spurs:

Pavel Pogrebnyak
His impressive scoring streak continues for Fulham, with Wolves proving the Russian’s latest victim. Yesterday’s hat-trick means Pogrebnyak has scored in each of his three games since moving from Stuttgart in the January window and brings his tally to 5 in three games for the Cottagers. Considering Bobby Zamora scored 5 in fifteen games before his transfer to QPR, Pogrebnyak’s impact has clearly given Martin Jol’s side an added dimension up front. The maximum bonus has been duly delivered, taking the Russian’s Fantasy haul to 33 points in just three games and, with Villa, Swansea, Norwich and Bolton to come in the next five, the bandwagon is on its way; he’s already jumped 0.2 in price this weekend, as the transfers-in continue to snowball.

Clint Dempsey
Not to be outdone, Dempsey ended a three-game goalless streak by bagging a couple in the 5-0 win. The US international returned his fifth double-figure points haul of the season and, with 149 points, is second top scoring midfielder behind Gareth Bale, having overtaken David Silva on the back of yesterday’s performance. His away form is still something of a worry- Dempsey has returned 9 goals and 5 assists at the Cottage compared to 3 goals on the road but his home returns alone make him almost impossible to overlook, particularly with a strong upcoming schedule on the horizon.

Shola Ameobi
Newcastle’s forgotten forward came to the rescue just as defeat seems a certainty against bitter rivals Sunderland. While hopes were high of goal returns for Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, the pair failed to produce, with the former ending the game on a score of -1 after a booking and missed penalty- doubly frustrating for those who selected him as vice-captain behind the absent Sergio Aguero this weekend. Ameobi’s knack of scoring against the Black Cats earned Alan Pardew’s side a vital point but in spite of his headline-grabbing goal, a role as impact sub looks his best way of harvesting points.

Ryan Taylor
His starting role on the right side of midfield continued yesterday, though a half-time reshuffle by Alan Pardew won’t have gone unnoticed by the out-of-position prospects’ Fantasy owners. With Newcastle struggling to get a hold of the game, Davide Santon was subbed off, as Taylor was shifted to his early-season role of left-back. On came Hatem Ben Arfa for an impressive second-half cameo as the home side upped the pressure- Pardew has food for thought, then, ahead of next week’s trip to Arsenal, with question marks perhaps once again raised against Taylor’s likely starting position.

Stephane Sessegnon
The Black Cats midfielder received a straight red card for violent conduct after catching Cheik Tiote with an arm and will now serve a three-match ban. With Sunderland still involved in the FA Cup, Sessegnon will miss the next two league games, against Liverpool and Blackburn, before returning in Gameweek 29 for the home clash with QPR. His absence poses his 24% Fantasy owners plenty questions, with many surely set to off-load Sessegnon, affording a break-up of the identikit midfields we’ve seen over the last few gameweeks.

Nicklas Bendtner
Back in the Black Cats starting XI for the first time since Gameweek 21, the big Dane opened the scoring at Newcastle with a coolly despatched spot-kick. Bendtner’s game time has been blighted by injury since Martin O’Neill’s arrival, with groin, ankle and facial injuries affording him just six starts under the new manager. He’s returned 2 goals and 2 assists in those six starts, though; a decent, if hardly prolific, haul. With Sessegnon now sidelined and Fraizer Campbell continuing to be eased back into action, Bendtner looks nailed-on to lead the line in the short-term; with yesterday’s game also confirming he’s number one for penalty duties, he’ set to be a crucial figure for Sunderland over the next couple of gameweeks, at least.

Wayne Rooney
Forced out last week due to a throat infection, the forward returned with the opener to continue his recent goalscoring form. Rooney has now grabbed 5 goals in his last three games for United and seems to be stepping up in performance as the season enters the final third. With (WBA, wol, FUL, bla, QPR) up next, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are set for heavy Fantasy investment, as managers juggle budgets in order to rid themselves of the likes of Sergio Aguero for the in-form United forward.

Ashley Young
With Ryan Giggs benched for the trip to Spurs, Young was given the chance on United’s left at the Lane. He played a part in all of the visitors’ goals, bagging a brace and assist in the 3-1 win and served a reminder of his potential ahead of his side’s superb upturn in fixtures. Young has largely been a huge Fantasy disappointment this term; quick out the blocks in the first five gameweeks, he’s been virtually anonymous since; indeed, yesterday was just the second time he has found the net all season. With Sir Alex Ferguson admitting he expects Antonio Valencia to be back in time for United’s Europa League away trip to Ahletic Bilbao on March 15, Young could be set for the role of bench-warmer once again, with his game time likely to diminish once the reliable Ecuadorian is available.

then i would hv 0.3 in bank and i need 0.4 for my planned NTaylor--> JEvans next week but should i abandon it or get rid of vorm as friedel only has 2 difficult matches till season end which are sunderland n chelsea away ,which are also not so bad for tottenham keeper

    Long post

    Reasons to get Suarez:

    - Mammoth total of 89 shots despite a 8 game suspension.
    - That's a Shots per Game ratio of 4.2 ( only Rooney and RVP are higher)
    - In his last four games (all competitions) he has scored 2 goals and gotten an assist.
    - Liverpool have on average a massive 18 shots per game. (Higher than United and on par with Spurs/City)
    - Suarez has scored player a total of two matches (overall) against Sunderland. Out of those Two matches he has scored a goal in each. (Suarez vs SUN: P2 G2)
    - Good upcoming fixtures for Liverpool

    Reasons not to get Suarez:

    - Far from Reliable as he proved before his suspension
    - Woeful Conversion rate at about 7%
    - Liverpool have one of the lowest conversion rates
    - Liverpool not in top form as they proved against Arsenal
    - Possible Rotation threat
    - Liverpool have only scored 30 goals this season. On par with the likes of Villa and Bolton

The stats seem to say that at some point Liverpool are going to batter a team and Suarez will be heavily involved. Conversely experience seems to say this just isn't going to happen.

Oh and I think there is 0 rotation threat personally.

    Guys.

Did anyone see the Fulham V Wolves game. Andy Johnson was pretty awesome - was all over the pitch) I know this is a bit out there but Andy Johnson for England? - I mean besides Rooney, it's not as if we are blessed with striking talent right now: -

    - Zamora - Average
    - Defoe - Not playing much
    - Caroll - Need I go on
    - Sturidge / Welbeck / Campbell - Not enough class and don't have the ability to take opportunities or make them!
    - Crouch - Slow and Clumsy (saying that he has a great scoring record for England)
    - Owen - Finished!
    - Bent - Injured, and lacks class

Of course the new manager may just play Rooney on his own - or with Gerrard just behind him like he stated v Holland.

What does everyone think about this?

Rooney may play upfront, depends on how Welbeck does in the season run-in I guess. Gerrard hasn't proven a whole lot either, though. Will be interesting to see. AJ is far from being in the mix, I'm afraid. Decent player, but not national team material

AJ needs a chance I think...

In my eyes though, what England need more than anything is a playmaker - we haven't had one in years - someone to put his foot on the ball and create ala Fabs and the whole Spanish team. We sadly lack quality, remember the 90 team: -

          Beardsley
          Platt
          Waddle
Barnes etc could all create chances out of nothing - we have nothing like them now...maybe scholes for one more run out?

Asked this earlier but looking for some more opinions.

    A. Mignolet (Krul)
    G.Johnson Enrique Evans (Kaboul Senderos)
    Silva Bale Dempsey Taarabt (McLean)
    Rooney RVP Holt

    B. Mignolet (Krul)
    Richards Enrique Evans (Kaboul Senderos)
    Yaya Bale Dempsey Taarabt (McLean)
    Rooney RVP Suarez

Advantage of A is i get to keep Silva and keep .7 in the bank. Holt has Wig & Wolves at home, G.Johnson could be a good differential.

Advantage of B is Suarez has a DGW followed by qpr and Wigan and gives me an easy route to Adebayor.

I like B gives you the chance of getting Ade or anyone else later if you go for the expensive ones, but if you choose A downgrading Silva and upgrading Taraabt(you´re still considering him?) wouldn´t be so bad either.

I made my transfers in the early hours of the morning to avoid any potential price rises, and would greatly appreciate some helpful feedback regarding my starting eleven choices. My team for GW28, is as follows:

    Vorm

    Enrique, Kompany, Cahill
    McClean, Pilkington, Bale, Silva
    Pogrebnyak, Rooney(vc), RvP(c)

    subs: Krul, Shawcross, Simpson, Walters

    Al-Habsi | Bogdan
    J.Evans | S.Kelly | Lescott | G. Cahill | Santon
    Silva | Nani | Mata | Sessegnon | Pilkington
    RVP | Ba | Yakubu

how do u find those 2 moves..?
    - now, before GW 28: Lescott & Sessegnon ---> J.Enrique & Larsson (4 point hint)
    - before GW 30: Al-Habsi & G.Cahill ---> Ruddy & Lescott (or Richards)

    why?

I really want to get at least one Liverpool player before GW 28 and I would like to stay with him for a longer time. And probably getting rid of Lescott is the only reasonable way right now to do this. But I wouldn't like to stay without any City defender for a long time, so that is why I want to get Lescott (or Richards if plays) after 2 games with no City defender. I also want to change Al-Habsi to Ruddy, because of much better fixtures of Norwich after GW29.

What do u think about it, guys? Do it or not? Any other ideas?

If you don't use it this week you are playing a waiting game with no guarantee that another one will definitely come up. And if there is one it is apparently going to be City or Spurs which sounds great however it gives all of us WC'ers this week and people with no WC left several weeks to gradually build up to 3 Spurs or 3 City players and you will lose that advantage of your WC.

I say you play it now and use your FT's to build a team suited for 4, 5 or 6 weeks time.

I disagree. I'm saving mine for GW31. I have 2 free transfers and can use them getting Rooney and Suarez whilst taking a hit to get Jose Enrique in. GW31 is a great fixture change up for Chelsea and Spurs especially whilst by then we'll know the Man United winger situation aswell.

On the basis of yesterdays performance, I think it is actually more likely that Nani will be benched and it will be Young and Valencia if all were fit this weekend, but, Ferguson knows Nani is the temperamental type and that he will go elsewhere if he isn't playing, but, Young was very impressive, he can be streaky though, as can Nani, personally Valencia is still probably the safest United midfielder, but I think I will be happy with Roondog and Evans for the next few.
