Vincent Kompany is expected to be out for a fortnight. Michael Dawson’s season is in doubt due to ankle ligament damage. Arsene Wenger sees Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-term future in central midfield, United will make a “one or two” changes for Sunday’s game with West Brom, while Steve Kean may be missing a couple of first-team players for the crucial trip to Wolves.

Vincent Kompany is expected to be sidelined for around a fortnight after picking up a calf problem in City’s Europa League trip to Sporting Lisbon last night. The Belgian lasted just seven minutes in Portugal before signalling to the bench that his game was over- he will now miss this weekend’s trip to Swansea and is at risk of being unavailable for the home clash with Chelsea the following gameweek. Roberto Mancini spoke of the injury situation post-match:

We have to wait one or two days to know the exact extent of his injury, but it is a problem with his calf. I hope to have Kompany back in 10 days or two weeks, but we have other solutions.

The loss of his skipper is a bitter blow for Mancini; City’s resilience at the back has been a crucial part of their performances over the last few months, with six clean sheets in the last eight league games. Kompany missed a couple of those clean sheets through injury and suspension, though, and with the likes of Kolo Toure ready to step in alongside Joleon Lescott, Mancini still has strong options at the back. For some Fantasy managers, though, the temptation to transfer out Kompany is strong; with Liverpool’s upcoming double gameweek on the horizon and a strong schedule ahead for United, Spurs and Kenny Dalglish’s side, many are pondering a switch at the back, as City’s fixtures somewhat toughen in comparison.

Spurs have confirmed Michael Dawson sustained ankle ligament damage in Wednesday’s FA Cup win over Stevenage. The centre-half fell awkwardly after an aerial challenge in the 3-1 win and was stretchered off just a few minutes into the game; after undergoing scans, he is expected to be out for 10-12 weeks, with his season now all but over. Dawson’s season has been blighted with injury; indeed, he has started just six league games for the London outfit but his absence only nails-on Younes Kaboul in the heart of Harry Redknapp’s back-four. Priced at 5.5, the Frenchman could prove a cheaper alternative to the full-backs, for those eyeing up Tottenham defenders.

Arsene Wenger reckons Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-term future lies in central midfield. While the youngster performed superbly in the role against Milan in midweek, deputising for the injured Mikel Arteta in the 3-0 win, his manager played down Oxlade-Chamberlain’s chances of making an immediate switch from the wing, insisting he still has some way to go in his development before becoming an automatic pick through the middle:

I don’t think he is ready to play in this role personally but he will certainly develop into it in the future. He will play [there] again but I think he has to play where he is needed basically. The most important thing at the moment is that he develops well. He had a good game but he still has many things to add to his game. That is the purpose now for his work, especially the fitness, the physical intensity to add to his game.

Ahead of Monday’s match against Newcastle, Wenger also revealed Arteta and Aaron Ramsey should be back in the squad, Theo Walcott should be ok after suffering a hip knock against Milan, Kieran Gibbs has a chance of recovering from a groin problem, while the Arsenal boss “doesn’t know†if Yossi Benayoun will make it.

Sir Alex Ferguson will check on Chris Smalling’s fitness before naming his side for Sunday’s game with West Brom. The centre-half was forced off against Athletic Bilbao last night after his head wound re-opened and, with United now chasing a 3-2 deficit going into next week’s second leg against the Spanish outfit, Smalling’s availability may determine whether Rio Ferdinand starts against the Baggies. Ferguson admitted the latter’s experience will be crucial to the European game, going on to say:

I’ll make one or two changes. Scholes is available and so are Nani and Rio Ferdinand to get the freshness back in. Rio is such a great player and he has great experience. It depends on Chris Smalling. His stitches came open in the first half. We thought we’d patched them up at half time but they came open again. It’s a possibility. I will maybe gamble with a couple on Sunday for Thursday’s game.

Steve Kean has a couple of injury worries ahead of Blackburn’s crucial trip to Wolves this weekend. David Dunn – scorer of Rovers’ equaliser against Villa last week – is struggling to overcome a virus, while Bradley Orr has picked up a hamstring strain. Kean admitted the latter is “touch and go†for the Molineux trip, after undergoing scans on the problem.

Chelsea’s match with Man City has been rescheduled for Wednesday March 21, affording both clubs a fixture in Gameweek 29. The game was in doubt after the Blues knocked Birmingham out of the FA Cup on Tuesday, but the Premier League has moved quickly to allocate a new slot- we have now updated our fixture ticker as a result.

Hey Catmac if you're still around - do you think the preview would be better written with the line-ups shrouded in mystery or with me taking some wild stabs at what the transfers of the various teams have been? Had a little go at sussing out your moves, I'm probably way off but...

Have some wild guesses would be best. I think it would make interesting reading even if you are way off. Are you going to try and guess which players we managers have taken in/out as well?

ok folks still can't decide whether to take a 4 pointer (my main rival has which has extended my advantage)

    Schwarzer (Mignolet)

    Evans, Taiwo, Skrtel (Caulker, Santon)

    Bale, Silva, Dempsey, Siggy (McLean)

    Ba, Rooney (vc) RvP

    1.4 in bank

Not sure a 4 point hit for a defender is worth it, even for a DGW one (plus my rival owns Enrique), Suarez is unreliable but the gamble could pay off if I get him in for Ba. Only other option is Adam in for Clint, Silva or Bale.

Well.....I don't know about you guys but this weeks captain choice is giving me a bit of a headache.

Rooney/RVP? Initially I had it on Rooney, but even though he scored two goals last night I thought he was very poor. United were pretty poor and face an inform West Brom side. RVP on the other hand has been on fire and Arsenal are very much in form and playing with confidence but face (on paper) a tougher side.

Logic points to RVP but my heart and initial instinct says Rooney.

Anyone got 2 cents worth they want to chuck into the mix?

I currently have it on RvP with Rooney vc, as you say United were poor last night (though I can't see them being that poor or dis-interested again) and WBA are in form. Arsenal will have been boosted by the performance vs Milan, and Newcastle are out of form.

    Folks,

let us together make a list of five teams, which players (which ever from them) would cover five DEF slots.

Long-term, till the end of season.

    I propose:

    MIC - LIV - MUN - SWA - NEW.

Do you agree with these five teams for defensive slots?

    Maybe FUL?

Nope - the defenders you're playing are good already, you have Skrtel for the Liverpool defence coverage and Kompany will not be out for ages - even if he is, you can swap him for no hit next week to the likes of Evans.

I was in roughly the same boat and I pulled the trigger on Kompany for a second Liverpool def, figuring that the only way it pays off is if they come up big. Plus you shouldn't have to necessarily adjust your defense immediately next week.

(PS, don't think of this move as a 8-point hit; you've already taken a 4pt hit, this is just another 4pt hit. Does the math work out to get you more than +4 in return if you make it? Possibly, but it's a gamble).

Playing very well, no question about that but I think they're just a little over-hyped at the moment. Chelsea are terrible, actually picked a draw myself for that game, never fancied Chelsea to win. Wolves....awful, worst side in the PL. Sunderland, caught completely off guard.

Europa League Group H Match day 3 Preview
So, Udit has stolen a March on RoysCallerAnne and Bora, while Disparate Dan is becoming desperate! But now one could call this the group of hits!!!

    Group H
    Group Leader Team Manager W D L F A GD Pts Rank
    Braga RoysCallerAnne 1 0 1 123 114 9 3 2
    Club Brugge Bora 1 0 1 111 121 -10 3 3
    Birmingham City Udit 2 0 0 135 105 30 6 1
    NK Maribor Disparate Dan 0 0 2 103 132 -29 0 4

Can Maribor use home advantage to good effect this week?
Maribor (Disparate Dan) vs Braga (RoysCallerAnne)
    Injury / Team News:
Maribor - Three transfers for a four point hit for Disparate Dan, so I think it’s safe to assume a new goalkeeper! Kompany out, Valencia may have been swapped.
Braga: Two free transfers made. Sessegnon and Dyer have probably departed ...
    Predicted Line Ups
Maribor: â“ ; Evans, Simpson, Taiwo; Bale, Silva, Dempsey, McClean; Aguero, Ba , van Persie
Braga: Schwarzer; Richards, Evans, Senderos; Mata, Silva, â“ , Dempsey; Ba, Aguero, Van Persie
Match Verdict - Slim away win, I think.

Club Brugge (Bora) vs Birmingham (Udit)
My scouts tell me that Birmingham is suffering from massive internal turmoil, with as many as five players departing under a cloud! Might be a massive home win in prospect!
    Injury / Team News
Club Brugge - Four transfers made for an 8 point hit! Sessegnon probably gone, Rooney in?
Birmingham - Five transfers made for a 12 point hit! Kelly injured.
    Predicted Line Ups
Club Brugge: Krul; Evans, Senderos, Richards; â“ , Silva, Dempsey, Bale; â“ , â“ , van Persie
    Birmingham: Hart; Richards, â“ , Taylor R; Dempsey, Sigurdsson, â“ , Bale; â“ , â“ , van Persie
Match Verdict - Hard to call. Home win, I think.

One of the last chances to RMWCT 😉

I decide to put Silva back in again, and go without Nani/Young becuae of their inconsistency and everybody in my ML have Silva. And I'm only chasing a lead by 1 point 😛

So here is my latest WC draft:_

    Schwarzer-Mignolet
    Caulker-Evans-BAE-Skrtel-McAuley
    Dempsey-Bale-Silva-Sigurdsson-Miyaichi
    Holt*-RVP-Rooney

    * Holt is a one week punt before straight swap to Odemwingie who plays (wig) in GW 29.
