Following the sudden collapse of Fabrice Muamba in today’s FA Cup tie with Spurs, Bolton have tonight issued an official statement which indicates that Muamba remains “in a critically ill condition in intensive care.”

Our thoughts and prayers remain with Muamba’s family and friends during this time.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    So sorry to hear this devastating news today been listening as the evening gone on and it sounds like he's in better condition or certainly better condition than he was ont he pitch. So full respect to all the people who were there and helped Fabrice Muamba while on the pitch and afterwards!

    I really think and I know this wont go down well with people who have Villa and Bolton players but I think the match on Tuesday should be postponed as the Bolton players can surely not be in a good state of mind and it would be unfair to expect their players to get their heads clear in 3 short days while this will be all they are thinking about over the next few days!!!

          He should be stable by then - I think it makes no sense to call off the game if he is stable by tomorrow. There would be no reason for it. If I had a heart attack and lived, I would be pissed if my company shut down one day because of it, lazy SOB's using my heart attack as an excuse not to work. Back to work it is.

      Not trying to sound ignorant here but I don't see the purpose of that. We've all had to think about what's important and not today, but transferring in someone who will not play again this season won't really make anything better for either you or him.

          I hear your point and I struggle to reply without sounding patronizing or angry, but respect is a very abstract phenomenon that we show by not doing anything that might seem offensive to others right now and by acknowledging that we're sorry that it's happened to someone practicing the game we love. You've done both those things already there is no need to take extravagant measures like that.

            for me it wouldnt be out of respect - it would be an amazing signal that humanity can still have priorities and a certain lightness to it, and that it was worth 2,000,000 peoples time to put a funny smile on your face, even if for just an instant.

          If everyone takes a hit to get him in and then again to get him out next week - then it wouldnt make a difference, im sure it would give him a hell of a chuckle - he probably will be messing with his team at home and then notice he is the only person who doesnt have himself.. Captain as well, just make sure to pick a definite starter VC.

    Without presuming - it does sound like a genetic heart condition that probably happen at any time but as its undetected its almost impossible to predict.

    I'm hoping that like others such as Souness, Houiller etc - he pulls through and also plays again.

      A Norwegian player recently had to return home whilst at Sheff Utd due to medics picking up an anomaly.

      my workmate had a heart attack while at home 2 months ago, they took him to hospital and he was found to have a genetic heart defect that he didin't know about, and one which is the number 1 cause of sudden unexplained death syndrome

      they've fitted an ICD into his chest permanently, whihc basically constantly monitors his heart and if it senses a problem, he gets a 'jolt' to keep his heart going

      mad stuff really

      not that i have heard of...

      a match situation and the effort levels put in are rarely duplicated at training. The mental aspect of winning and losing can make you push your self harder and through a pain barrier...

        Based on reports it could be the same thing. When the heart stops you need to restart it in few minutes at most - best way to do it is the use of defibrillator. If you don't have one at hand, you have 95% chance of dying 🙁 In Fab's case there was all the medical assitance available, however if we are to believe the reports, his heart stopped 4 times. But I wouldn't go any further in my understanding, since I'm not a doctor, so I just wish him the best!

      Good point. The only cases I have seen are during a match. It could be that full exertion is more common in a match compared to training. They seem to be such freak incidents with no underlying health issues detected. It was hereditary in the case of Antonio Puerta and Marc Vivien Foe so genetics seems to play a part however it is difficult to screen for according to research.

    I was in a foul mood as my Club lost a 2v1 lead in the last minute of a SWA League game. In the Club later we were were discussing various aspects of the game and improvements needed in a heated manner as you van imagine.

    Then the Spurs game started.........we settled to watch.

    Life is a fragile & precious commodity and witnessing what happened to a Professional footballer really puts things into perspective. No one should ever wish to see any player suffer a serious injury and obviously regardless of the club concerned, any sports fan or even any respectable human being will hope Fab survives & leads a good life.

      I did it because Rooney was rising tonight aswell and I was bringing him in this week.

      I originally didn't bring in Siggy as I knew I would bench him for his big scores (think I would have benched today).

      Decided that between him and Barfa today, may aswell go with Siggy as probably all my rivals will bring him in now anyway. Ludicrously in the Sun Dream Team they didn't add him in the transfer window, so couldn't bring him in there.

    i dont think that any of the games should be postponed. yeah its hard on the players and the fans, but i dont think muamba will want the games to stop on his accord. he would want his fellow team mates to go out and give it all they've got and the football games to go on as planned. i think a win for bolton is the best 'get well soon' gift we can give him right now. it will give him something to cheer for and smile about while he recovers.

    Earlier SSN said Muamba was 'stable' and I was very relieved after fearing the worst. I watched a film thinking all would be okay and then saw that he was 'critically ill' 🙁

      Think in medical terms it just means he's not getting any worse. He was still critical at that point, guess they'd just got him breathing by sounds of it, i.e. CPR had been successful.

        I take it to mean the same, that he is breathing on his own and his blood pressure etc is stable but he possibly needs machines to keep his heart and other functions going. So its going to be touch and go for the next 24 hours or so to see if his body can take over own it's own.

    I've gone a bit alcohol mental and made 2 very early transfers, purely because of Sigurdsson's imminent price rises (and the fact i definitely want him long term). Not my usual style.

    Richards --> Caulker
    Buzsaky --> Sigurdsson

    I really wanted to get to rid of Santon instead of Richards but funds couldn't stretch. Just need some luck now... 😀

    2 incidents of football snobbery this week:

    - Mancs attitude towards the Europa - aside from AC, Bayern, Badrid, the teams left in the Champions League are no better than the teams left in the Europa

    - The minority who feel Swansea/Norwich are flash in the pan and a second season waiting to happen simply because their players originated from the lower leagues

      What swansea and Norwich have shown this season is just how much difference a good manager can make, not taking anything away from the players of both clubs as they have been immense but Brendan Rodgers and Paul Lambert deserve huge amounts of praise, especially given that neither of them came up and tried to stay in the Premiership by buying their safety. They continued to play a lot of the squad who they had during their Championship days, Great work

          Most other clubs would possibly try to do it which is why they deserve all the credit. They could have both said, "We need to spend big to stay up" which is a bit of a cop out. They never, they showed faith in their squads and their squads have repaid them, really good to see.

It is her job and actually she's a darn sight better than some of the her colleagues.
