With six sides currently facing a blank Gameweek 34, our regular look at Frisking of the Fixtures is slightly affected this week. While there’s every chance those missing matches could be scheduled for the same Gameweek, at present we are leaving those teams to one side and focusing on the sides that presently have a definite fixture in place.

For the moment, we’re also omitting Bolton, due to the uncertainty over their upcoming schedule, in light of Fabrice Muamba’s current condition…

The Strong

Man United

The champions continue to rack at the goals at an eye-catching rate in their attempt to reclaim the title. Sunday’s 5-0 win at Wolves was the latest in a run of games that has seen them net two or more goals in all but one fixture since Gameweek 15. Antonio Valencia’s return looks timely, with the Ecuadorian once again proving a key performer in United’s offensive ploys- priced at 7.5, the transfers-in are already racking up.

Wayne Rooney may have drawn a rare blank but his form remains strong; seven goals in his last five appearances is likely to see plenty more Fantasy managers draft in the forward. Javier Hernandez served a reminder of his differential potential with a brace at Wolves, while Jonny Evans’ goal and clean sheet made a mockery of his 4.8 price tag. With (FUL,bla, QPR, wig, AVL) to follow in the next five, the fixture list continues to offer plenty potential for the red half of Manchester.

Arsenal

An obliging schedule is on the cards for Arsene Wenger’s side, with Robin Van Persie set to be locked in constant battle with Rooney for the Fantasy Premier League captain’s armband. Home games against Villa and Wigan offer the Gunners skipper strong opportunities to rack up the points and extend his lead as the top Fantasy points scorer, while trips to QPR and Wolves are equally enticing. Arsenal also play host to City and Chelsea in the next six but, given that they’ve just seen off Sunderland, Spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle in such resilient fashion, confidence is sky-high right now.

Theo Walcott will surely see an upturn in Fantasy ownership – over 56,000 have drafted the winger in over the past three Gameweeks due to his recent performances. Alex Song’s steady rate of assists offers a decent mid-price option, while Thomas Vermaelen’s eye for goal and Bacary Sagna’s delivery from out wide have been fundamental in the Gunners’ chase of north London rivals Tottenham in the race for third.

Stoke

The installation of Asmir Begovic in goal seems to have steadied the Stoke ship. The Potters arrived at Chelsea last week on the back of a two-match winning run, with no goals conceded; an act of folly from Ricardo Fuller mean the visitors were forced to play most of the match with ten men and narrowly lost 1-0. Stoke’s short-term fixtures look appealing, even with a home game with City this upcoming weekend; given that Roberto Mancini’s side have notched just two goals in their last six away games, a home clean sheet is even a possibility.

Pulis’ side then face two of the bottom three – a trip to Wigan and a home game with Wolves – before heading to Villa. Victories in all three looks feasible, with Matt Etherington’s form on the wing likely to be crucial to their chances. Begovic and the likes of Robert Huth also offer clean sheet potential, with Ryan Shotton a cut-price out of position option, albeit a slightly risky one, given Pulis’ penchant for rotation. Andy Wilkinson is your budget option – with perhaps that little more security than the forward-thinking Shotton.

Also Consider

Swansea – with three straight wins and no goals conceded, Brendan Rodgers’ side are showing no sign of slipping as the season heats up. Home games against Everton and Newcastle, with a trip to White Hart Lane sandwiched in between, would normally be classified as tricky but, given the Welsh side’s form, a couple of wins from those three would not be surprising. Games against QPR, Blackburn and Bolton then follow – the likes of Steven Caulker, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Danny Graham offer cut-price potential right through the spine of the team.

West Brom – the Baggies have three winnable home games in the next five, as Newcastle, Blackburn and QPR all roll up to the Hawthorns. If Peter Odemwingie recovers from a calf problem, investment in the Nigerian looks certain, given his recent form. James Morrison offers cut-price potential in midfield, though with Roy Hodgson admitting he intends to utilise his squad over the remainder of the season, question marks may be raised against many of their players.

The Weak

Blackburn

The next five gameweeks offer Steve Kean’s side little optimism as the Ewood Park outfit continue their battle against the drop. A home clash against United affords the champions a chance of avenging the Gameweek 19 reverse at Old Trafford, while Liverpool also pay visit to Lancashire, with the Reds beginning to return to form following Steven Gerrard’s comeback from injury. Rovers may struggle to pick up points, with just three wins in the last eleven in front of their own supporters.

While the Gameweek 28 win at Wolves boosted the confidence and registered a first clean sheet of the season, Terry Connor’s side are clearly in free-fall. Trips to in-form Swansea and West Brom hardly bode well for Kean’s troops and, with next weekend’s trip to Bolton possibly up in the air, Yakubu and co may find it hard pushed to produce for their Fantasy owners.

Aston Villa

With the midweek home game against Bolton now postponed, Alex McLeish’s side have some work to do if they are to accumulate points over the upcoming Gameweeks. An improvement at the back, with Carlos Cuellar alongside James Collins, has seen them ship just two goals in their last four but the absence of Darren Bent up front has hit hard, with only three goals scored since the end of Gameweek 23.

Currently on 33 points, an upcoming schedule that reads (ars, CHE, liv, STO, mun, SUN) suggests Villa’s season may go down to the wire if they are to avoid the drop. The likes of Cuellar will be pivotal at the back if the Villains are to profit from the next six Gameweeks.

QPR

Mark Hughes’s side have a horrendous run of upcoming fixtures, with the schedule simply merciless on the off-form Loftus Road outfit. Home games against Arsenal, Swansea and Tottenham, in addition to trips to Sunderland, United and West Brom, suggest their Premier League prospects could well be doomed before long. Faith in the likes of Djibril Cisse and Bobby Zamora as Fantasy prospects is likely to quickly diminish over such a punishing period, with points looking particularly hard to come by as Hughes seeks to mastermind an escape from the drop zone.

Also Be Wary Of

Sunderland – in the short term, at least, the Black Cats have three tricky tests in the next four. While this weekend’s home clash with QPR looks promising for the returning Stephane Sessegnon, Martin O’Neill’s outfit then face visits to City and Everton and, with Sunderland picking up a single away clean sheet since O’Neill’s installation, both matches could spell trouble for owners of the likes of Simon Mignolet. With a home game against Spurs sandwiched in between, the Wearsiders may struggle for consistent returns before an upturn in fixtures in Gameweek 34.

Wigan – a glance at the season ticker suggests Roberto Martinez looks to have his work cut out if the Latics are to avoid the drop. Wigan have Liverpool, Chelsea, United and Arsenal in the next six, with a trip to Fulham also thrown in. Indeed, the most favourable fixture in their next six is a home clash against Stoke but with a single home win all season, the clouds are gathering over the DW Stadium right now. Despite renewed faith in Victor Moses after a goal and assist in the last couple of Gameweeks, the 5.0 priced midfielder may well be returning two-pointers once again.

I have held off on the Ashley Young to Valencia transfer for now.. If Young starts I'm confident its a good decision. can any United fans advise his chances of starting next week please? If its unlikely I will hit the button harder and faster than a Daft Punk hit single.

I think Young will play next week, but who can be sure?

I think SAF will definitely play Valencia though. There is no need to rest players during the run-in, given they play only once a week. Therefore the best fit XI will take to the field each week - whetehr this includes Young remains to be seen. It could be Giggs on the LW?

Hmm, I just don't get the Spurs/Adebayor love at the moment, sure they have good fixtures, but Adebayor has had 2 good games in 10 weeks 😕 Not sure if doubling up with Bale/Adebayor is the way to go.

I'd say the same with Liverpool. 1 game and suddenly they are capable of banging in goals all the time. Aren't they one of the worst attacking sides in the league? and Suarez is a striker who doesn't score goals

I'm not convinced with Suarez either..
Aguero? Has been faltering away lately, but with no more European games you'd expect him to start most games, then again City are playing pretty poorly away too..

Balo is unique. Aguero and Tevez are similar players and they will be the ones rotated alongside Balo. Mancini said Balotelli has a part to play in every game til the end of the season.

I all seriousness, I think the best value is in the cheaper strikers for a weekly punt. Assuming you have nothing else to do with your FT, just picking a likely form+fix goalscorer.

Myself, I've yet to be disappointed with Papiss Cisse.. that may change 😉

For me, I don't feel the need for a cheaper striker 😕
I have a pretty high team value, and with the likes of Valencia, Sigurdsson, Sessegnon (when I get him) all being cheap, as well as Walcott and Bale being 9M for me it leaves me with about 11.5 for a striker.

I have Vermaelen already, and Enrique, Kelly and Evans, soon looking at Richards > Caulker (who I sold for Evans earlier) so that back 5 fives me 3-4 good options already, so I'd end up playing Baines and having someone annoying like 6 point Caulker on my bench

You'll always have a Caulker on the bench if you have a good team. Them's the breaks. I did the same with Rangel, they won't get a fourth cleanie (surely?)

Get Baines & still have enough to play some jokers up front. You'll have more big dilemmas about benching but I'd rather be you than me.. nice problem to have.

But what I mean is I'd fancy Aguero or someone like that to outscore a cheaper striker more than Baines will outscore Caulker (if he even will?)

They are imploding, people just don't see it. Harry never really has a Plan B. for VDV being a lazy out of shape f*ck and the scouting report catching up to Bale, for Scott Parker not having a creative bone in his body leaving him out there without a capable pairing in MF...and underplaying Kranjcar. All of this has/will continue to handcuff Ade, or whoever is in as striker. That being said they MIGHT beat Sunderland, out of their next three. Told folks Ba and Dempsey would give them the hot urine treatment... Now I just need Blackburn to do what I think they'll do and my Gunners to do the business this week...and of course a Santos run-out wouldn' hurt...

Seriously though even I was like "Harry wtf are you doing when he does Kranjcar off, Rafael "I can't touch my toes" Van der Vaart on. And Bale moves over to the right permanently and decides to practice using his right foot. And Spurs fans cry it's a formation problem. I think if the recent football 101 classic of Barca vs Sporting Gijon taught us anything it is formation smormation, it's about players and managers and a tight script and plan. Which Harry seems to be losing.

Aguero yay, finally the answer I was waiting for 😛
With Silva gone for me, a City striker is tempting with SUN ars WBA nor wol
But is Balotelli first choice now? or will Aguero go back to starting each week now that he had an extended rest - one which he looked like he needed
He looked sharp vs Lisbon IMO

I think he'll play most games, is a great value pick and a good way to get in on any potential City attacking returns BUT Aguero is always first choice. He was just visibly knackered of late and needed the rest as you say. If Mancini has any thoughts of leaving him out of the team, they were eradicated by Sergio's performance against Lisbon.

For a man like yourself, with lots of cash to spare, you should go Aguero. RVP Rooney Aguero is the optimal strikeforce until the end of the season IMO.

I think a problem with Balotelli might end up being that he features regularly at home, but not so much away, I can envisage Mancini using Tevez mainly in those tight away games in which City have been recently failing to grind out results.

Santos should be nailed by GW30 (if he doesn't have an issue with the ankle which is healed). Cheaper, and of the next three matches Arsenal will be concentrating more down the left: Phil Neville (eve), Hutton (AVL) and Onuoha (qpr)

Got this right for the weekend?

    Reina (WIG)
Skrtel (WIG) Turner (QPR) Evans (FUL)
Siggy (EVE), Gerrard (WIG), Valencia (FUL), Bale (che)
Holt (WOL), Rooney (FUL), RVP (AVL)

Bench: Bogdan - Caulker (EVE), BAE (che), Dempsey (utd)

Means benching Caulker, or would you lose one of Holt/Bale to play Caulker?

It is a risk re Holt granted, but am going to wait and see if any news comes from Lambert before Saturday (unlikely). If we follow Granvilles idea that the team that ends a game starts the next one then Holt should be in.
Could be risky though, got my mini league cup semi final this week and don't want a one pointer up front, so he may still find himself benched.

Don't think it's as simple as that. Lambert seems to pick the team based on how the opponent will line-up as well as individual players' form. I'm not going near Norwich players now as a result.

Well Holt was a 3 week punt in wildcard which backfired. In terms of how opponents line up surely in the striker positions this has the smallest impact in terms of team selection. Morisson and Holt are both lumps. Holt was seemingly nailed on, then played poorly at Wigan and was replaced with Morr for Newcastle. Morr was poor at Newc, so now Holt will more than likely come back in.
But anyway, was a poor punt with Holt. He will sit on my bench for a long time after this.

So, on that note, which one of the following Usual Suspects are you sacrificing:

    Silva (Dean Keaton)
    Dempsey (Verbal Kint)
    Bale (McManus)
    Young (Hockney)
    Nani (Fenster)

I obviously should have done Valencia + Holt in last night (before Valencia's rise) as that would have given me 0.1 to wait on Siggy - but wanted to give myself as much injury news time as possible. Now i have 0 in the bank...

Agreed Holt isnt ideal, but hoping he'll start vs. Wolves, then can look at moving to Graham if he gets benched again. Cant see much else for 5.3m or under...

Nao sou Anti-Sporting sou Anti-Chorões, em Portugal todos os clubes são beneficiados e prejudicados mas só se lembram de chorar quando são prejudicados pq no cenário contrário nunca falam...

    what do you guys think?
    Team is:
    Schwarzer, Mignolet
    Skrtel, Kelly, Evans, Simpson, Enrique
    Bale, SIlva, Sess, Siggy, Mclean
    RVP, Suarez, Rooney

I have 0.1m in bank, what is the best way to get valencia in? Straight swap Silva or Bale > Valencia?
or take a 4 point hit to do Sess > Valencia and Skrtel > 5.6m defender?
or do I even need him?

really tricky Q im afraid - not sure what i'd do - altho you prob dont need Sess and McClean given S'lands fixtures after QPR. Maybe the Sess and Skertl option

I don't know if Valencia is essential, but I certainly feel very nervous not having him. In my opinion there's not much point making a decision today though, he went up last night, whether Silva or Bale out is a good idea won't be clear until after tomorrow's games. It seems a curious week to ditch Sess (QPR), and I wouldn't mess with the defence without a reasonably long term strategy as to who you're going to be playing back there. One of Enrique/Skrtel out in the not too distant future seems fairly reasonable, but making a snap call on the basis of wanting Valencia this week could backfire down the road.

What's this I hear in the grape vine that a "winner takes all" JPT final rematch will be announced soon? I believe a lot of work is being done behind the scenes(by yourself no doubt) to ensure it's bigger and better than any Cup final ever in FFS/FPL history.

        Any truth in it?

Where there is smoke...I will prepare my team as if it will happen. That's what the fans out there have been shouting ever since the first JPT final rematch.

    Have midfield/forward combo of:
    Valencia, Bale, Dempsey, Silva
    RVP, Rooney

What thinking of either Gerrard or Suarez to complete it? which one (or someone else for £10m or less)?

Anyone in the same predicament as me in that you you Lindy sitting on the bench clogging up the 3rd United spot?

Having learned from numerous mistakes, I have finally learnt that hits are an anagram of themselves, but I think in this case it's needs must; only 1 FT, so should I do the following for a 4 pt hit?

Lindy -> Mignolet (Krul is my other Keeper)
    Dempsey -> Valencia

Fulham have some nice fixtures coming up, Dempsey would be one of the last players I'd sacrifice.
Besides next GW Sunderland don't have many fixtures that look good for clean sheets so I wouldn't bring in Mignolet.
No to both transfers (well do bring in Valencia, but not at Dempsey's expense)

I would say yes, I feel Rooney is a must with every team and Young wont play as much as Valencia or not at all

What do you think, either of these moves worth an 8pt hit?

Phil jones -> JEvans and Pog -> Suarez
    or
Phil jones -> JEvans and McClean -> Walcott

    ???

Hey guys. I'm chasing in a minileague and have my wildcard left. Thinking if I should use it now or spare it a couple of gameweeks. Team is as follows:
    Krul - Mignolet
JEvans - Shotton - Enrique - Simpson - Kelly (Fulham)
    Dempsey - Walcott - Bale - Morrison - Buzsaky
Rooney - RVP - Papiss Cisse

I've got 1 FT and 2.2 in the bank. Should I use the 1 FT to get Valencia instead of Morrison thus saving my WC or should I do more changes to try and catch up, some differentials or something like that?

    Cheers in advance!
