Twice. That’s how many times –prior to today- that Robin Van Persie had failed to score or assist in an Arsenal win this season. Once at home, back in Gameweek 4 in a 1-0 win over Swansea, and once on the road, in a 2-1 triumph at Sunderland in Gameweek 25. With the Gunners on a six-match winning run coming into today’s game with Villa, confidence in the Dutchman was high; we’d handed him the armband in our droves, with 46% of all votes in the Captain Poll, double that of Wayne Rooney’s 23%.

Today’s 3-0 win at the Emirates extended the Gunners’ winning streak to seven games but it was the midfielders who stole the show; Mikel Arteta and Theo Walcott grabbed a goal apiece, while Alex Song provided a pair of assists.

There’s no doubt Van Persie’s blank – the first time since Gameweek 5 he has failed to score in back-to-back Gameweeks- hands the advantage firmly to Rooney this Monday evening. Those of us who have the United man, but failed to captain him, are now caught in a quandary as the champions take on travel-sick Fulham; willing Rooney to do well but, at the same time, not to run riot and rub our noses in it, with the rarity of an unreliant Robin perhaps proving pivotal in many a mini-league standing this week.

Swansea’s defeat at home to Everton also threw us a curveball, making a mockery of both form and fixture. With three clean sheets in a row, Brendan Rodgers’ backline was widely expected to produce defensive returns in this afternoon’s Liberty Stadium showdown. The Toffees spoiled our Fantasy plans, though, notching twice in an away for the first time since November; Leighton Baines netted for the first time this calendar year as the Swans’ wings were well and truly clipped.

Elsewhere, Wigan ruined the clean sheet hopes of Liverpool defenders in a shock 2-1 win at Anfield. With a single win in their last fourteen, Roberto Martinez’s side looked to have little chance of victory; Liverpool would surely bounce back from their midweek defeat at Loftus Road, right? Maybe the shock of Luis Suarez’s first home goal since Gameweek 15 stunned the hosts but yet another inept display from the Carling Cup winners saw them taste defeat for the fifth time in six. Daniel Agger’s return from a rib injury can’t come sooner for Kenny Dalgish.

In a weekend filled with the unexpected, then, it was left to Bolton to put a positive spin on the day’s events. Only this time last week, many of us had watched on as Fabrice Muamba lay motionless in the White Hart Lane turf after collapsing in the FA Cup clash with Spurs. Prior to kick-off, the club paid tribute to the midfielder’s remarkable, and continued, recovery over the last few days and, in an emotional match on Lancashire, the Trotters 2-1 derby win over Blackburn hauled them out of the relegation zone and proved a fitting end to what has been an extraordinary last seven days for everyone at the Reebok.

Yak scored twice at Old Trafford, Sig is doing well away from home. Neither are bad options, but I think Utd are a lot stronger defensively than they were when they played earlier in the season.

        Disagree.

King is 100% nailed on when fit, with Kaboul third choice behind Dawson (who's gone for the season).

Ledley is playing the majority of the games at the moment, so Gallas should be limited to FA Cup and a fill in for King occasionally.

I also need to free up a United slot for Hernandez.

Don't see why Theo would be rotated, no one worth resting him for

United could rest Young for Valencia, nani, Park or even Welbeck as we saw last week

I know Hernandez is a risk as well, but Fergie has said he'll get more minutes until the end of the season, and he's highly likely to score well. If he gets a rest? well that's why we have a bench.

Guys how is this looking for next GW?

    Vorm
    Kelly Verm BAE Evans
    Dempsey Bale Young
    Rooney RVP Ba

    Ruddy; Sess, McClean, Caulker

Depending on Ba's performance might change him.
Just need to ask as I am away for most the week!

also look at Young, I also have him but am probs shipping him for Theo this week, but that's because I want Hernandez. I'd look at Young to Valencia if I were you.

yup, could be a nice little differential for me. Main rival owns Tony so am going for 3rd United spot elsewhere

          Dempsey, Theo. McClean, Siggy, Bale

          RvP, Rooney, Hernandez

          Planned Front 8

Still noy sure about Clint, but no one has yet staked a claim to replace him.

could easily work 🙂 if i was ur rival (which i am clearly not) 😆 id get citeh attcking cover to make it interesting

that front 8 does look full of big scores tho.....even more so if hernandez bangs in a couple more this w/e to cement his starting place 😛

Spurs and especially Adebayor don't look good.
He's had one good gameweek since Christmas - the only other score over 2 was when he got a penalty vs Arsenal.
Although there are a lack of options for that 3rd striker spot.

We've played well enough recently I think, but haven't had any luck, we could have easily won today. Our run in is fairly soft and I still think we'll find our rythm again once we get a win under our belt. Ade has shown before he doesn't need form to get a big points haul, and I think he'll still get more goals before the seasons over.

Koscielny had tendinitis in his knee when he woke up this morning. I don't know what position he slept in but he could not walk properly. He tried in the warm-up but could not play. We decided in the morning when he woke up. He came to see me and said he was not sure that he could play with that pain. So we called somebody up and pushed him in the warm-up. Straight away after the first run he said he could not even move. How bad it is we have to assess.
      From Wenger.
