Wayne Rooney’s goal is just enough as United dominate but ultimately rely on a contentious refereeing decision to hold off Fulham at Old Trafford. Here’s the notes from last night’s Gameweek climax…

Jonny Evans
The centre-back compounded his “essential” Fantasy status with the assist for United’s winner to add to his clean sheet. Maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus is beckoning, giving Evans his second consecutive double figure return as United recorded a third shut-out in as many games. Recent weeks have seen Evans’ price rise to 5.0 but, given that he offers assured starts in the arguably the strongest back four in the league, there can surely be no quibbling over his acquisition.

Wayne Rooney
Replaced after 77 minutes, Rooney nonetheless had already notched 21 goals for the season, with last night’s strike his eighth goal in his last six league starts. That proved enough to justify the Fantasy Premier League captaincy over Robin Van Persie, as the two strikers begin an ongoing head-to-head feud for the Fantasy armband and the Golden Boot for the remainder of the season. By his recent standards, Rooney’s performance was a modest one – the goal being his only effort on target in the game.

Antonio Valencia
The Ecuadorian went into the match with a vast slab of new FPL ownership, willing him to re-produce the points haul from the Molineux rout. While Valencia had a superb opportunity to seal the victory early in the second half, he emerged with a blank to frustrate his new investors. Despite that, Valencia would seem likely to hold his starting role on the right flank for the trip to Blackburn with his work rate and all-round game clearly in favour with his boss. The recent surge in ownership has seen his FPL tag rocket from 7.5 to 7.9 but, at that price, he still remains excellent value – offering a potentially rich source of attacking points for United’s favourable run-in.

Ashley Young
Young was recalled to the starting lineup with Javier Hernandez, perhaps surprisingly, dropped to the bench to make way. That saw Danny Welbeck tuck in alongside Wayne Rooney in attack. Young had ample opportunities to reward those Fantasy managers who had kept faith with the former Villa man, but saw his best efforts turned away by the athleticism of Mark Schwarzer. Young seems set to compete with Nani – who is expected back in training this week – for the role on the left, with Valencia looking more secure in Ferguson’s lineup on the opposite flank. With his start at Blackburn in question, then, Young’s stock is set to decline as Valencia’s security and price tag has him move in the opposite direction in our Watchlist rankings.

Javier Hernandez
The Mexican watched on from the bench while Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney struggled to break the Fulham resistance, despite firing a brace at Wolves last time out. As a Fantasy investment, Hernandez remains a real rotation risk, with his battle with Welbeck set to continue for the remaining matches. While Evans and Rooney look too strong to resist for two of our the three FPL slots, Hernandez is a luxury option for the third slot – the security and value offered by Valencia again looks set to prove decisive, leaving both Hernandez and Welbeck as likely short-term differentials for the final Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

In fairness your stats put me onto Rooney rather than RVP which worked out pretty well, although it was more luck that anything the stats provided.

Ie We thought Villa would be a bit tighter than it was and Utd would score a hatful.

I looked yesterday I think I have only captained RVP once or twice in the last 15 game weeks and I haven't been burned overall

It needs to be towed to a garage and drained. It will probably cost you a couple of hundred quid.
I've not done it that way round. I put a little petrol in a diesel and noticed after only a litre or so, so it was fine. Just diluted it with a full tank of diesel. I'm led to believe that petrol engines are far less forgiving though and there's not really any 'getting away with it'.

Yep. It's no problem so long as you haven't filled it up on empty. Shouldn't damage the engine, just makes it a bit smoky and won't run smooth. Just dilute it by filling up with petrol and keep filling it up early until it runs smooth again.

My first car 11 years ago. On the way home from work and not paying attention I filled the tank of my petrol car to the brim of diesel. Drove out the garage before the car chugged for about 10 yards then died. Had to get it all drained out but there was no damage done.

All these people saying you need to drain the tank are wrong. If you put petrol in a deisel, yes - definately - but not the other way round. Only drain it if you filled it up on empty and even so, don't pay a mechanic 200 to do it, syphon it out yourself!

((Lost at end of previous article.))

With a 140 point lead in mini-league, I want to tidy up my team for the run-in.

have 2 free transfers, but for a 4 point hit, im considering
    Enrique > Verm
    Dyer > Walcott
    Ba > Cisse

Only 0.2 to spare on that, so would need to do it today i reckon.

Would leave me with squad of :

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    Evans, Cahill, Simpson, Verm, Kelly
    Valencia, McClean, Bale, Demps, Walcott
    Rooney, Cisse, RVP

Probably worth doing those transfers. I've three 'pool at the back too, got two frees and planned to get rid of two of the three, but that Villa game is tempting me to keep., I must say.

Which transfer should be my main priority?

    A) Mignolet OUT. Begovic IN.
    B) Young OUT. Valencia IN.
    C) Ba OUT. P.Cisse IN.

    My team is currently:

    Krul
    Cahill • Kompany • Evans • Assou-Ekotto
    Young • Dempsey • Bale
Ba • Rooney • Van Persie

    Mignolet • Sigurdsson • McClean • Caulker

I would probably look to get begovic in for krul rather than mignolet, due to the collocini factor on the toon defense.

That's 3 of your last 8 free transfers just to rotate a single defensive slot. Not saying it's wrong but I reckon there might be more pressing changes to make further up the field. On the other hand, I'm not very good at this game so it's probably best not to listen to me.

Real Carpy FC have called a 10.00 press conference to introduce two new signings. Due to a fall out with the management and loss of form David Silva and Jose Enrique have left the club. But we hope Antonio Valencia and Thomas Vermaelen will help push us towards where we want to be - a top 4000 finish...

Talks are ongoing with the impending transfer of Pogrebynak and Dave Cisse. A few contractual issues to resolve but the transfer should be done by early next week. 🙂

Not saying Evans didn't have a bad one, just that it's hard to judge pog on that performance last night. Rarely happens that a 'new to PL' player has a blinder at OT.
Few lads at work (vfb Stuttgart fans) couldn't believe pog got 5 goals from 5 shots, which also says something tbf.

Not at all Milkman. Think he's got that right wing berth nailed on now, especially since we're only playing once a week till the end of the season. If we were still in the FA Cup and CL, then there could be rotation but can't see it now. Nani might not even be back till next week and it will be a while for him to find form and fitness.

Man Utd beat Wolves 5-0 and Rooney got a single solitary assist. Last night he scored, but with his only shot on target. He had a fair few other shots but they were from distance and easily blocked.

I'm worried we're seeing a repeat of earlier in the season when Hernandez/Welbeck played up top and Rooney kept dropping deep. During that spell he was unproductive in fantasy terms, certainly not worth >12m. Fulham did sit very deep, does that explain his position last night? Did Wolves do the same?

I never thought Man Utd would hammer Fulham, but I do think they'll score plenty against Blackburn. The question is which players are going to be amongst the points. I have doubts about Rooney. If chasing a lead, could a Rooney -> Hernandez punt be a good idea for this weekend? Welbeck didn't have a good game last night, what are the chances Hernandez will start instead?

    Or is this suicide?
