James Morrison is set to be sidelined for a number of weeks after sustaining a knee injury against Newcastle on Sunday. Carlos Tevez could start for City on Saturday, while both Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero may return. Anders Lindegaard is uncertain when he will overcome an ankle injury, David Moyes is full of praise for Nikica Jelavic, and Victor Moses could be ready to return this weekend for Wigan, after positive scans on a facial injury sustained at Liverpool.

West Brom are hopeful that James Morrison will return before the end of the season after picking up a knee injury in Sunday’s home defeat by Newcastle. Scans have revealed the midfielder has damaged the medial ligament in his left knee and, while he is expected to be sidelined for weeks, Morrison has already started rehabilitation at the club’s training ground. The club’s head of medical services, Mark Gillett, revealed:

We’ve had positive news on James. We came to the conclusion on Sunday that it would more likely be a medial ligament issue, rather than a cruciate one, but you can’t be 100 per cent sure until the swelling has receded and you get the injury scanned. The outcome means that his rehab period will be more a case of weeks than months and, if all goes to plan, he should be able to play against this season.

Morrison’s absence vacates a role in the hole, with the likes of Chris Brunt perhaps prepared to step up, if Roy Hodgson decides to afford the playmaker a more attacking role in the Baggies midfield. Brunt has mainly filled in on the flanks since recovering from an ankle injury but, with Morrison now sidelined, Hodgson has a ready-made replacement available ahead of next weekend’s trip to Everton.

David De Gea’s Fantasy owners can relax a little after Anders Lindegaard admitted he is uncertain over a likely return date from an ankle problem. The latter had leapt ahead of the summer signing in the pecking order for United, having played five of their six fixtures between Gameweek 17-22 but is set to remain sidelined with the injury, picked up in training back in January. Lindegaard went on to reveal:

Of course I hope to have some involvement in the final part of the season. I want to contribute to winning the championship more than I have done so far. It has been a frustrating time, but that’s how life goes. I don’t know when I will be back, so I just have to keep smiling. It is the worst possible time for anyone to get injured.

Reports today suggest Carlos Tevez could be set to start for City against Sunderland this weekend. With both Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko failing to impress of late, it’s been alleged that City have centred their training plans with a start for Tevez in mind. If the Argentine can cement a starting role, he could prove to be the ultimate end of season differential as City look to chase down United at the top of the table, though a price tag of 11.7 is likely to deter investors, with question marks still against his first-team role right now.

Further reports suggest City could be set to welcome back Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany for the Black Cats’ visit on Saturday. Aguero is on course to recover from the foot problem that forced him out of the trip to Stoke, while Kompany has missed the last three with a calf injury; with City conceding in each of those matches, his absence has been sorely felt. Joleon Lescott may continue to miss out for Roberto Mancini’s men, with rest the only answer to his on-going groin problem.

David Moyes has backed Nikica Jelavic to grab the goals for Everton, with the January signing now beginning to establish himself in the Toffees first-team. Jelavic has bagged two goals in three starts since arriving from Glasgow Rangers and, having overcome injuries, has now featured in Moyes’ first XI in the last two, scoring against Swansea last weekend.

I think he has done quite well. When he came he had a bit of a problem with his stomach and he has missed a few weeks but he has given us something slightly different and scored a couple of goals. It can weigh on you (not scoring) and we have had other centre-forwards here who have found it a struggle to score.

With games against West Brom, Norwich and Sunderland up next, Jelavic – priced at 5.9 – is another forward with the potential to be a decent differential over the last eight gameweeks, as Moyes looks to increase a goal threat that has harvested just 30 goals from 30 games thus far.

Victor Moses could be back in the Wigan lineup this weekend, after scans revealed he has not suffered a fractured jaw. The 5.0 midfielder was subbed off at Anfield following a challenge by Martin Skrtel but Roberto Martinez confirmed the prognosis was positive earlier today:

We got him checked out straight away in the hospital because there was the potential for a fractured bone in his face. The results came back really positive and there was no fracture which allows us to treat him. We will see within the next few days whether he is available for selection on Saturday.

The Latics boss also revealed Hugo Rodallega and Mohamed Diame could be on course for quick returns from knee and groin injuries respectively, with both players to be assessed ahead of the weekend game against Stoke.

Beleaguered Wolves boss Terry Connor received some good injury news regarding his injury-stricken midfield earlier today. Karl Henry, David Davis and Stephen Hunt have all returned to training this week, with Henry confident of a return to the first-team fold in the crucial Molineux encounter against Bolton on Saturday. Connor also revealed he is sweating on the availability of Michael Kightly, after a challenge by Grant Holt forced the winger off with an ankle problem towards the end of the 2-1 defeat at Norwich.

Been having the same debate mate. I feel like Cisse is a bit safer...the downside is that he has no GW34 fixture.
Jelavic has too much competition for me to take the risk I think.

    GK : Vorm , Sorensen
    DF : Evans , Bae , Skrtel , Caulker , Vermaelen

With 2.2m in the bank, planning to get Baines instead of Skrtel, but I forgot about my GK.Everyweek I play & gamble with Vorm. Should I upgrade my keeper or get Baines ?

I'd say get Baines if either, don't think you need to do either really though.

Reasoning for Baines is you likely want to keep Vorm for his good fixtures and great shot stopping points. Strtel does have nice fixtures which is why it's not necessary to rid of him, however if you want then Baines certainly has the greater potential with his attacking ways.

Does look quite heavy but I guess Baines is a good differential as few will have him but he's on good form. Everton are tight at the back so it could pay off well.

You have got to think long term too admittedly though, sometimes worth saving transfers when you have good players and backups (rather than succumbing to pressure bangwagon players) and strengthening weaker areas a week later.

End of the day, go with your gut 😀

Mignolet or Vorm this weekend? Leaning towards Mignolet, think Sunderland will keep it pretty tight, City have been struggling for goals and Spurs are due a big haul. Thoughts?

Is a tough one...do get your reasoning. Would go for Mignolet on that but wary of Vorm and his shot stopping ways and the points he accumulates for that.

Do feel Spurs could get a haul after their performance though, so Mignolet...just!

A mixture of that, Everton's clean sheet potential and Baine's individual attacking ability, 4 this season and 2 assists is nice for a defender!

Too expensive for me to personally choose though.

Everton's CS potential is definitely tempting me as well but as you said its a lot of money, which I think could be spent elsewhere upgrading players!

I may bring in one of their 'cheaper' defenders in the coming weeks...

True, my most expensive defender is in Skrtel and I can't see myself very many more transfers in regards to my defence this season, reason being mine nearly all rotate nicely with good fixtures!

Cheaper defenders are good, likes of Caulker, Kelly, and JEvans being prime examples!

And thank you! Doing better than last year but regrettably made bad decisions and stopped playing for 2 weeks which did some harm, slowly getting better though 🙂

Captain has got to be between RVP and Rooney for me...looking like RVP at the moment simply by looking at recent stats of QPR and Blackburn to see who conceded the most 😆

I'm wildcarding within 2 weeks and I have a lot of money in the bank so my reasoning is that ignoring price, he's the best defender to have. If he plays well, maybe I'll keep him and if not it will be easy to cut ties.

Pog would become P Cisse or Adebayor in GW33, but he could score well in the next two (NOR, bol). It's mainly the fear of no Bale that is swaying me towards a) though. Are you expecting much from Siggy (tot) this week? If i do b) then he starts and I can see a 3-0 Spurs result with no Caulker (and no Wiliams?) at the back for the Swans.

Bale looked sharp and could be clinical against Swansea. Pog is somewhat of a risk of being a flash in the pan, might be more of a short-term option but at the worst he could be a 1-week differential against a poor Norwich side.

Cahill and Verm are certainly two great defenders I'd love to have in my team - instead I've risked going full force with Rooney - Ade - RVP and having a somewhat weaker but still good defence, just without the attacking potential that those two possess.

      a) I'd keep Racist Vole Boy if I had him. I don't rate Pog much yet have him in my team, purely for the next 2, then he's gone.

        a) I agree, Pog would be a 2 week punt only, before probably -> P Cisse (or Adebayor if he hits form).

        b) Losing Skrtel leaves enough in the bank for Dempsey -> Bale in GW33

        c) The hit is putting me off this. NEW without Collo could pave the way for Suarez.

          a) That's exactly what I'm looking at, Pog > Cisse for New vs Bolton.

I really can't decide about Ade - in the Chelsea game at the weekend he looked like he couldn't trap a bag of wet cement, yet you know there's always the possibility of a monster score from him.

          b) Fair enough.

          c) This as well. Coloccini is a terrific player and Perch / Williamson are triers but not really quite up to it, I feel.

Cheers. Think I'm decided on a) mainly because of Bale but also because we know Pog can explode and he has 2 decent fixtures to do it in. Also, Cahill is enough of a rotation risk to cause concern, and with Verm, Cahill, JEvans and Enrique at the back, Caulker willl hardly get a game which seems wrong given Swansea's fixtures. I also don't fancy much from Siggy this w/e and a) means I can bench him.

Just need Suarez to keep quiet.... 😉

Well if Dempsey and the others can keep creating chances then the Pog could score a few - that's what I'm hoping as well.

Much against my better judgement I think I'm doing Skrtl > Cahill to free up the money for Pog > Cisse. I'd like to keep Skrtl but I think I'd like Cisse / Cahill more, especially if Chelsea have a double home double game week later on. Cahill's next 3 games look good as well. Villa away, Wigan home and Fulham away - not great but not bad, either.

              Good luck!

Hmmmm. I'm guessing that you need to downgrade suarez to afford big verm. Otherwise I would probably hold off Suarez to cisse for two weeks. You would probably bench your toon striker against swansea away (after liverpool), and suarez is up against james perch this week!!

Considering Surman > B Arfa. It would mean benching either Siggy or Ba. Good move? I just have a feeling B Arfa could tear it up in the coming weeks as he continues to nail down a place in the side. I'm pretty sure Raylor will go back to LB this weekend

It seems Santon has fallen out of favor. Do you expect Raylor to play LB? also with injuries in defense do you expect Newcastle to go all out attack? Having Raylor at the back and HBA on the wing can't do Krul any favors regarding clean sheets

Santon has been taken out of the firing line. Probably rested for a few games with a view to bringing him back refreshed. He is still by far the best option, but i expect raylor to play a few games at left back.

With the form that the toon trident are in, I think we could go all out attack. It would be strange for us to go the other way and drop one of them to pack the midfield to protect the back for. Hopefully tiote being fit should be enough.

I've been saying for a few weeks that when we hit form, we are going to give some teams a good hiding. It looked like we were hitting that form against west brom! I've got Barfa AND Dave (had them for 30 points on sunday too!!)

Nicely done China. As you know this game is all about timing. Not sure I should get HBA in yet. Could be 2 weeks too soon? or do you expect Newcastle will still bang in goals?

If you have transfers, then do it! Ba is tapped out and Cisse looks dangerous on the break with HBA especially and Cahill looks nailed on in PL especially with Ivanovic out. They really vant the JT/Cahill partnership to grow, and Chelsea have somewhat unlikely tightened up under RDM.

OK. Let's try it this way ...

It was 5 shots, 3 games, and he converted on 100% of them. This means he's like 230,000 times better than Torres.

Yes, I definitely think he's going to maintain that perfect form 🙄

Your last point is pure cliche, so I'm completely dismissing it. Do you watch games?

The point is: for a third striker, at his price point, with other options lacking, he's a decent shout. There really isn't any great options beyond RVP and Rooney out there right now ... so people are stretching a bit to find some value.

Lol yes ive watched every one of his 5 games since ive had Dempsey in for 4 of those 5. Hes slow, he cant jump, he doesnt make good runs. His finishing has been good to be fair, but about it beeing a cliche that strikers need to get into positions to score, are you serious? Its a valid point. I know theres few good options, but theres still a few and Fulhams fixtures the next month arent great.

He is kind of like Dzeko.
It doesn't matter what he does for runs, how well he jumps or how his first touch is.

He lives to score goals, and he does exactly that.
All he needs is 1 chance.

Cliche: a trite, stereotyped expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse.

Saying strikers need to get into good positions to score isn't invalid, it's just an axiom of the game.

And 5 goals in 6 games doesn't suggest he's a failure of a player, against any opposition.

You don't like him? Fine - I don't own him either, and no plans to. But Cisse's fixtures aren't exactly much better, I might argue quite worse. Toon won't play Albion each week, either.

Norwich has also been tightening the ship up. If Poggy was a true top striker he a) wouldnt keep getting shipped from club to club, b) play for fulham and c) have only 5 shots in 5 games vs mediocre opposition. Trust me, that bandwagon will soon be over but do what you will its your team:)

I heard somebody with equally valid crystal ball say that he would continue to benefit from being mixed in with better quality players and that he would continue to provide good value for money as a third striker option.

Not to be too snippety, but facts are, we don't know. We know that he has executed well with what has been served to him, and we know that he isn't going to do it on his own. Under heavy pressure from quality opposition, Fulham mids will have to be spending more time helping on defense and Pog alone will be relatively impotent. When Fulham in attack mode, they have a lot of capable parts on offense and the defense will have to cover all of them. In those games, Pog is as likely to be in the mix as anyone.

What is more important is how do WE rate him... The Russians were watching him playing with Russians against Russians. We are watching him play in the EPL.

I would expect raylor to play left back and perchinio centre back. That basically means our only other defensive option is santon, which makes his chances of coming on for a one pointer pretty high. I would play skrtel. Did you see what happened last time perch played centre back (away at Norwich!)? I fancy liverpool to score from a set piece.

Still wouldn't go for a city striker though, now that tevez is back to make rotation even worse. HOWEVER, I can see the potential genius in getting balotelli as the 3rd striker, seeing as most of us have enough bench options to cover him missing a game or two.

Probably fine for next week as well. People getting worked up about Fulham being poor on the road, but it's Bolton, for chrissake. Fulham 2-0 at Wigan, 1-0 at QPR, similarly crap sides. Bolton second leakiest home defense in EPL. I wouldn't be afraid of playing them next week.

Enrique does have a good home fixture next so if can play someone good this weekend i would hold on for a little while longer. Still not sold on Cahill`s defensive abilities, but Chelsea have been tight since RDM came in and he sure is a threat on set pieces and even long shots, so hes certainly a good option. Only thing is rotation as they have alot of games coming up, fatigue could play a role.

Cheers for the reply. I can get away with playing Kelly(NOR) this week so I don't necessarily need Cahill and Enrique could play next week (avl). Agger is returning too. I just think Chelsea's next two fixtures might be too good to pass up (avl, WIG), there are a couple of others that are also nice down the track. Your point about fatigue is also relevant and might swing me to consider Verm instead but his expense may limit other transfers in the future

Shotton - the week I get him in he immediately falls out of favour with Pulis. Worth hanging on to, or should he be top of my list for ousting?

I would stick short term, they have 3 great fixtures in the next 4. He`s been in and out and even though my main rival have him and i personally dont rate him, hes OOP and super cheap for a team that actually does keep cleanies

+1 he shouldn't be a high priority. Just make sure you have a bench that is capable as Shotton won't start every game

I agree, but the threat of a 1 point sub appearance is frustrating. Would you start him this week from these 5 I have at the back? I think I have to right, probably in place of Enrique.

JEvans, Skrtel, Enrique, (Caulker - not eligible), Shotton

Yeah play Evans Skrtel and Shotton. Downside is obviously that he is that kind of player that will get subbed in if he doesnt start, which certainly does suck

So my rival is behind by 51 and has this week:

    Vorm, Lindegaard
    Cahill, Skrtel, King, Hanley, Senderos
    Dempsey, Barfa, Siggy, Young, Ferguson
    Rooney, RVP, Ba

He's made 2 transfers this week (because he told me, like an idiot.)

Should I prioritize getting rid of Ba for the likes of Cisse or Jello?

or should I take a 4 pointer and grab Rooney and Wilkinson to match his RVP/Roonpig combo?

    Cheers 🙂

Lol @ his defence. Midfield doesnt look great either. Depends on who your third striker is, but i would def like to have both Rooney and Stoke defence for the next weeks so i say 100%

Thank you. A DGW in GW 36 would be very interesting QPR (H), New (H). That seems to be the most likely time to play the game too in my opinion, assuming Chelsea progress in the Champions League.

Encouraging when you have all of the top 8 in the captaincy poll in your starting 11. That said, it doesn't half make it a tricky decision... who are people giving the armband to this week?
