With Everton’s progress to the FA Cup Semi-Finals sealed last night, we’ve seen confirmation of the postponement of the Toffee’s clash with Stoke this morning. Our Season Tickers have been updated accordingly and they now show eight teams without a fixture in Gameweek 34.

With this in mind, we thought we’d briefly summarise the situation with the Gameweek – discussing the possible outcomes, pitfalls and the possible benefits of the fixture pile-up mounting.

Right now we have four games postponed from Gameweek 34:

  • Stoke vs Everton
  • Bolton vs Spurs
  • Chelsea vs Newcastle
  • Liverpool vs Fulham

With the midweek Tuesday/Wednesday slot free on April 17/18, there’s every chance that we’ll see these games shifted to evening kick-offs, thus keeping them within the Gameweek. Certainly that was the precedence set by the postponements caused by the previous round of the FA Cup. There is, however, a slight caveat – it’s possible that the April 17/18 midweek slot would not be seen as viable given that half of the teams will be involved in sapping FA Cup ties at Wembley the weekend prior.

There is also a likely exception. The Chelsea vs Newcastle fixture may be forced into a double Gameweek slot due to Chelsea’s progress in the Champions League. Having grabbed an away goal advantage in Benfica last night, Chelsea look favourites to make it through to the last four. The ties for that round will be played on April 17/18 – ruling out the possibility of the Newcastle league game being shifted to one of those nights.

That would create a double Gameweek, bringing assets such as Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse, Juan Mata and Gary Cahill to the fore. With a possible Champions League second leg on April 24/25, it could be that the league fixture would shift to May 2, creating a double in Gameweek 36. Newcastle currently face Wigan in that Gameweek, while Chelsea take on QPR at the Bridge on Sunday.

Right now then, we’re awaiting confirmation from the Premier League on the rescheduling of these matches, with both Chelsea and Newcastle most likely to miss out and hand us a late and potentially profitable double fixture. Fantasy managers are left to progress with caution then – perhaps preparing two strategies for transfers around Gameweek 34, with numerous outcomes still possible.

We’re also still waiting on confirmation of the rescheduled date for Bolton’s meeting with Aston Villa. At some point then – both those teams will deliver a double Gameweek with various midweeks slots available – April 24/25 (Gameweek 35) and May 1/2 (Gameweek 36) are looking the most likely to accommodate this match. There’s also the possibility that the aforementioned Gameweek 34 slot – April 17/18 could be used for this fixture, with the Bolton vs Spurs encounter slipping further.

Confused? Hopefully all will become clear soon enough. We’ll keep you posted.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd like to point out 2 things.

    1. The midweek slots were available after FA Cup semi final weekend last season too. Only Man United played in that slot (still in CL so limited options)
    2. The season finished 2 weeks later last year.

I just realised all my defenders will not be playing week 34 - Enrique/Skrtel/Raylor/Simpson/Evans - I was looking to get rid of Skrtel as I already have Enrique, now I think this is my excuse. Raylor is a tough one, but his injury problems are a pain. I was originally gona go for Cahill but he is missing week 34 to. I think Vermalaen could be my number one target now.

I'm not sure about Jelavic. He's put in some great performances and made a big difference but he seems to catching the Everton centre forward bug, i.e. he'll score the odd cracker but miss several easy ones.

Maybe I'm wrong but he seems to miss whenever he has time to think about it and score when he doesn't. Which isn't good news.

Writing this as an Everton fan rather than a Fantasy manager but not convinced yet.

    Bottom 5 Analysis

Blackburn appear to be a definite home club, winning 5 games at home compared with 2 away.
Wigan are the opposite winning 1 game at home and 4 away.

No suprises Blackburn are the strongest attackers in the group.

    Blackburn- 43 goals scored
    Bolton-33
    QPR-33
    Wigan-27
    Wolves-31

QPR, WIgan and Bolton rival for the title of defensive Rock, well defensive Pebble perhaps.

    Blackburn- 68 goals conceded
    Bolton- 58
    QPR-53
    Wigan-55
    Wolves-65

Kenny and Al Habsi lead the clean sheets table with 4, Hennessey and Robinson on 2, with Bogdan on a measly 1. (although Jaaskaleinen has 2)

Jol talked about one decision. Viera is simply trying to push forward a myth that has no basis in fact.

United have had 3 pens given against them at OT this season, and certainly the Newcastle one was as much not a pen as the Fulham one was.

How many pens have been given to opponents at Eastlands, the Emirates or the Bridge this season, or the Lane for that matter.

I can only think of Wigan's at Anfield as well.

He is hoping that buy pushing this stupid myth further (just like the one that no one in Salford or Manchester supports United) he can win sympathy.

            which has been proven false.

Nor more so than at any other 'big' ground anyway.

Probably because teams like Fulham are ones that lose out from big team decisions. Although old trafford decisions are a joke it's a bit rich coming from the City camp a week after their dodgy pen against Chelsea.

it's only dodgy to people who don't know the rules. the referees do luckily.

i'm quite concerned about the loss of drogba, kalou, bosingwa, malouda when their deals expire. who's gonna replace them? we dont already have a big squad.

Malouda offers nothing to the club. Kalou has played about twice this season. Bosingwa is a terrible defender and Drogba is too old to lead the line for a top PL club. The rebuild at Chelsea is long overdue.
